Never again – Will never buy one again, no good with power, petrol or for accessories. Will look for something different next time. Is expensive to run. Was not the one I test drove and convinced to go for the upgrades. Not worth it.

Not impressed – I use this car everyday. Very slow taking off, goes through the fuel fast, on hot days my tyres inflate then I get a warning light on and have to pull over and let the tyres cool down. Can’t wait until I can buy a new car, will not buy another Haval again. Show details

Great car, good value for money! – I have had this car for a year now and I haven't had any major issues. The only issue I had was a warning light that kept on coming on, this was easily fixed once I took it to the dealership. I drive this car to work and with family drives, we haven't travelled anywhere far due to lockdowns. The vehicle is very comfortable, has lots of leg room… Read more

inside and a lot of great power options. The rear storage area could be a bit bigger but it does it's job. It's engine is not the most powerful being a 1.5 Turbo, so don't expect to win any races lol.

2020 Lux 10000km 12 months old – Older couple with low usage now about 5000km pa mixed short runs then odd 300km run all on flat good country roads. No complaints but you do need to get used to the way the car works with its engine/auto combination. Steering feel ok, cruise control good on our roads at 110kph. Quietly happy to date. Work out what a vehicle can and can't do and drive accordingly - horses for courses. Show details

Replace the clunky mufler – The Haval H2 has an enormous muffler feeding two exhaust out pipes. I fitted a sports thru muffler weighing 75% less. There was very little noise increase and the performance improvement is amazing. The gear changes are smoother and there is much better acceleration. Show details

Value for money – Purchased the H2 for the wife because this was the only model offering Apple car play at that time early 2020. Took the demo for a test drive with 3 adults and found the 1.5ltr motor just adequate but as this car will be used by 1 person most of the time it would suit. The biggest disappointment is the turbo lag when cold, in fact it is downright… Read more

dangerous. The good news that there is a software update ‘think it’s called cold start update’ which I recommend as a warranty call. The other annoying feature is the tire pressure monitor system, our car was randomly showing different tyres at different pressures but when checked they were all the same. I had the first 5000 service and advised I was running too high a pressure, apparently 34 psi is recommended so we will see if that fixes the problem. Other than the high fuel running cost it’s a nice car with most of the bling you would want tho a auto opening tailgate would be a nice inclusion in the future. Be safe on the roads, remember it’s better to be 10 minutes late than not getting there at all.

False advertising – I purchased Haval H2 lux in Jan 2019 as a demo model. It was promoted by the dealer as having apple iphone nav system and many safety features. I now know that many of the features are not available in Au. As I have a disability these features were very important to me. The dealership is wiping its hands of my concerns in spite of the misinformation given to me. Show details

Havel SUV - Buyer Beware – Purchased a Havel H2 LUX in January 2020. Vehicle is small SUV. The car itself is well equiped and comfortable. We added a tow bar with the intention of pulling a small 12ft caravan [under 1000kg]. This was not an issue UNTIL we checked on the tow ball weight endorsed by the manufacturer. To our amazement and total frustration, the maximum tow… Read more

ball weight is only 70KG. The small van tow ball weight came in at a reasonable 80KG which is basically the minimum for a caravan of this size. A vehicle of similar size and engine capacity [eg Toyota] has a tow ball weight of 150KG. We looked at even upgrading to a bigger Havel [H6] but were shocked that this larger vehicle had a tow ball weight maximum of 60 KG - unbelievable. The situation is worse when looking at the Havel H9 [Large SUV] with a tow ball weight of only 100kg. Lesson learnt -if you wish to pull a caravan or trailer , Do not buy a HAVEL

Simply a great car...not just great "for a Chinese car" – I purchased this car on 1 July 2019 and I've waited about 6 months before writing this review. This is so I can give the reader a detailed "long term" review reflecting 6 months of ownership. At the time of writing the car has travelled about 4,000 km. I have another car which I use for work and the Haval is entirely our private "family use" car.… Read more

It does the regular grown family stuff like shopping trips, miscellaneous errands, dump runs, family transport and so on. I can assure you this review is an honest and accurate review of my ownership experience over 6 months. I use the car almost daily.

I would buy another one of these cars in an instant if I needed to and I have no hesitation in recommending it to others. The biggest hurdle to overcome, I believe, is the negative attitudes and perceptions towards and around Chinese cars. This was justified with earlier Chinese efforts in our market but the current crop of Chinese products - and the Haval H2 - is excellent and worthy of very serious consideration. The Haval H2 is perfectly acceptable for the average Australian motorist. If you can overcome the inaccurate mindset that Chinese cars are seriously deficient, poor quality and unsafe you can save a small fortune and find yourself behind the wheel of a very nice car. In my opinion, Chinese made cars are the future in Australia and probably in the rest of the world as well. In this review I want to cover the things that are important to the average punter. I am no car expert and I hope to give you a clear idea about how this car can or can't fit into your family.

The build quality, fit, finish and engineering are at least as good as any product from South Korean, US, European or Japanese manufacturers that are intended for mainstream consumers. Those with a bias against Chinese cars should remember that most of the components in their preferred car brands are almost certainly made in China! For example the Haval H2 has a Chinese made licenced Bosch branded braking system which I’m quite sure would be in many cars.

Ok so enough of that and on to the car. Styling is subjective so if the H2 doesn't look like something you could live with it's probably pointless reading further. Obviously it looks fine to me because I bought it. You must make your own decision on this.

The H2 requires petrol of octane 95 or higher. This means you can't use ethanol or regular unleaded. This may seem a negative, which I guess it is, but it won't be too much longer before the minimum octane available in Australia will be 95 anyway. This is the situation in Europe right now. In any case the higher per litre price of fuel is fully offset by the significant reduction in purchase price over (say) a Hyundai equivalent vehicle. However, the fuel consumption is higher than the average for this category of vehicle. The trip computer in the car does not accurately reflect the true litres per 100km consumption of the H2. The trip computer in my H2 reports an average over six months of 7.9 litres per 100 km where the true reading, based on my own calculations and record keeping, is 10.96 litres per 100 km. This is an error of around 39%. Trip computer lt/100km readings are often inaccurate but this error rate is unacceptable. Please take this into consideration but don't forget the fuel consumption is quoted on all new vehicles in Australia as per government regulations. I’m just saying that the car’s trip computer fuel economy reporting varies significantly from the actual. This is probably quite common in the industry?

The Haval H2 has a 1.5lt turbocharged petrol engine. The power and torque figures are lower than comparable 1.5lt turbo engines. This engine provides perfectly satisfactory performance in the H2 for most buyers. The car is an unexpectedly accomplished and relaxed highway and motorway cruiser offering driver and passengers a comfortable and pleasant ride. However, the rear centre seating position is not comfortable, but this is often the case in many cars. While the power and torque figures from the engine are lower than competitors most owners will be perfectly satisfied with the performance from their H2. The engine becomes noisy above about 4,500 but you won’t have it above this speed too often. In summary the engine and performance are perfectly adequate for the average Australian driver.

Some have reported turbo-lag from this car. I have no idea what this is exactly, but my experience has been a reluctance of the transmission to shift down; presumably to reduce fuel consumption. It could be this shifting pattern that confuses people? It’s not really a problem but you should check this on your test drive.

The equipment level is very good but again this is subjective. You certainly get a lot of fruit for the money and this is what I like. My H2 has a sunroof but I’ve never opened it even once. Everyone is different so you will have to make up your own mind on equipment levels. The sound system is about average but it has no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. I don’t care about that, but you might. The Bluetooth works fine and is all I need.

The boot space is not the greatest and you should check this in your research. Haval don’t quote a boot volume. When manufacturers don’t quote this number it usually means they haven’t got a good story to tell. The boot is fine for us but check if it works for you.

Service intervals are 12 months / 10,000km whichever is first. This is competitive with other brand's turbo petrol engine SUVs. The service prices are competitive with Hyundai but please check this when considering purchasing as prices change. I recently had my very first service - 6 months / 5,000km. This was fine and there were no issues. The Chinese manufacturers in Australia are NOT transparent with their service pricing and this includes Haval. However the fault probably lies with the importer and selling dealers rather than the Chinese manufacturers. I researched the service prices extensively before purchase but it was very difficult and unpleasant getting information out of the dealer. They obviously have something, or a dodgy agenda, to hide. For your own peace of mind I suggest pressing the dealer for information on service pricing if it's important to you. You can get the car serviced at your local independent mechanic if you wish and just go to the dealer if you need warranty attention. I understand the independent mechanic can source parts for the car and they can service the brand without any problems.

The Haval H2 is a decent car and well worthy of consideration. I suggest taking one for a good test drive before making your final decision. There is no ground breaking technology in this car and it does everything very well and nothing poorly. It is a well tested and a big seller in its Chinese home market. Haval have been producing the model for quite some time. It's been a great car in the six months I've owned it. I genuinely like it and I have no doubt you will too.

Awesome car, never had anything with so many features. It’s great to drive, enjoyable and smooth and quiet – I use the car everyday for school pick ups and drop offs, doing the shopping and driving a distance to work. The headlights are great at night, and I am enjoying the automatic lights and wipers. It’s also a bit of fun with the push button start and just putting your hand on the door handle to unlock the car. Show details

Great car for my wife and I – I've read some of the reviews with a negative report such as turbo Lag gear changing problems the satnav being to slow. All we can say about this car is that if its driven like a racing car than you could get some problems, but if driven as a normal than you will find it extremely pleasant.  Show details

September 231st 2017 Update: Extra commentates on HavelH2

Havel cars are new to Aust l took a chance with model for a number of reasons and in my last review not couldn't get them all in . So here goes 1 the look.of the suv to me great , 2. 5year warranty . 3 to what it came with sun roof, red Colered brake calepers green Windows side, and back hutch door, 18inch tyres , full 18 inch spare tyre,4. With the H2Lux, electric drivers seat push of a button it ajusts to your seating comfort . 5 . Heated seats drivers side , pansenger front seat, 6. Dual temp control lit works well for us eg wife can set her side at a temp so can driver . Plus most of all cost of car when l brought it plus agood trade in . The negatives well all makes of cars have negatives against them but this H2Lux Suits my wife and l it will be my last car so it's got to last at least 7years plus l don't care about trade in prizes as all cars these days are throw away cars or used as spare part market Yours truly Tex

Back seats fold down for extra room , this suv will sell well . It would be a good second car for running around city’s or shopping centres or for us older pensioners.its easy to get in and out believe me . Electric opperated drivers seat both front seats are fitted with heating system, long drives are a dream in this suv. Negatives needs more boot room , has to use 95 fuel , abit noisey when tyres are cold when they warm up ride improves Adam lot . Very slow on take of when motor is cold , when motor gets up to operation temp look out turbo hooks in and hang on this is a problem Havel need to look into time will tell for the prize l paid for suv after trade in suv is well worth a look at . For a China suv it’s up their with the rest of the suvs in H2lux range. Proud owner of this suv. Tex Ps fuel consumption long runs 7,2 to 6.8 local 7.2 up to 7.8 depends on your driving habits ,and traffic conditions

The Haval...have it all! – The Haval H2. Here is an interesting one. Firstly I read reviews carried out in 2016....(pictures of some reviewers, they look very young, so.....). No surprise, highly suspicious and critical of this "how dare they" Chinese brand, giving it a 4/10. Then I bought a Chinese little commuter motorcycle. It has provided a faultless over 12 500 Kms of… Read more ·  10

very economical commuting and finish wise, still looks new. So when the wife's 2000 KIA Rio hatch (remember the suspicion when KIA first came out?) had moved on past its use by date, I decided to look at the Haval H2. Firstly the paint finish and build quality, are as good if not better, than any Japanese or in fact, to me, European car out there, certainly in this price range. I drove it, same result. Yes the engine isn't going to get you invites to local drag racing events....around town will the wife notice....don't think so! She will be far more impressed with the electrically adjusted, lumbar support adjustable, heated leatherette seat, for when her back is a bit sore after a days teaching.... The Haval Lux model, at $24990, its a LOT of car for the money, with more bells and whistles then you could reasonably expect. Auto wipers, lights, folding large mirrors, climate control aircon, the list is long. The cruise control steering wheel controls are very user friendly. Interior room is more than satisfactory. Good rear leg room. Boot is on the shallow side, but the trade off is, you get a full size spare alloy wheel and easy to get to. As mentioned, driving dynamics to me are as good as any mainstream product with no squeaks or rattles. You sit nice and high. Rear view is not great, but again this is compensated for by a reverse camera and a left wing mirror camera to avoid scraping those lovely alloy wheels on the curb! Interestingly enough, as for 2017 road reviews....now they are giving it a 6/10! Suddenly it's a case of "actually the Haval is pretty good...." the H9 was voted the number 3 4X4 of the year, by Aus 4X4 magazine....No, the H2 is not perfect, fuel consumption is higher than ideal for example but we will see. Basically the overall package I thought, is good enough for me, so buying one this Saturday and will update this review as we live with the car. After all, my i Pad was made in China....so is almost everything in the house!!
