Air Conditioning broke, spent weeks in the shop trying to sort out the problem. Intermittent so the Dealer had a hard time fixing it. LCD screen often showed errors. Updates performed and still errors persisted. Engine had issues and left me stranded with 2 young kids, very frustrating. Losing engine oil unexpectedly. Constant warranty issues and… Read more

returning to multiple dealers (frustrated with 1 dealer so go to another dealer to try and get help). Spent many, many hours trying to get this brand new car to be reliable. Gave up after 14 months and lost 30k on this piece of garbage. Will NEVER recommend or buy another Haval, ever!

Worst New Car Ever – Car has had issues including, screen flashing and not showing speedo etc whilst driving, not selecting grears and when slight wet outside it would consistantly not select drive or reverse from park position & boot would never work properly. Took to dealer over 10 times for same issues and they could not diagnose and repair, even after replacing… Read more

wiring harnesses and getting GWM involved - we ended up doing a buyback with dealer which we are still in process of doing after 21 months of having the car and 4 months of liasing with dealership to get rid of it. The vehicle also required new tyres at 22,000 kms they were down to wire, because they appariently need a wheel balance and alignment every 6,000 km's which we were not told.

Haval H6 Ultra - Don’t Buy this Car it’s Dangerous – Do not buy this Car it is dangerous. The system has not been tested correctly as the “intelligent” Emergency Lane Keeping system activates out of the blue & with no need, pulling the steering wheel to one side. I have had this occur where the vehicle has been pulled towards another vehicle & I have had to fight the car to avoid an accident. … Read more

This is a new 2024 Haval Ultra. I’m currently working on getting my money back including starting legal proceedings. I’m also working towards notifying as many as I can to ensure a recall occurs before someone is seriously injured or killed.

Google ELK Haval issues & you can find videos on the issue that others are also trying to fight.

Hopefully I have saved you from the pain I am currently experiencing.

AVOID THIS CAR AT ALL COSTS – My wipers stopped working, my airbag light was flashing sporadically and my sunroof stopped working. I had to wait 2 and half months for the part to arrive from Japan, When it arrived, my sunroof still did not work, so I had to take it back again. It is also very clunky to drive, especially when accelerating. It is constantly beeping and chiming… Read more

with alerts. You can turn them off, but most of them reset when turning the car off and back on, so you have to go in and turn them off each time. I would avoid Haval at all costs

Best Thing Since Fried Rice – We've had our Haval now for over a year and can't say a bad word about it Has all the bells and whistles you could ask for at a fraction of the price of it's competitors One of the main reasons we bought the car is all the safety features the car has and we feel a lot safer knowing we are driving a safe car Show details

Luxury on a budget – This car has all the bells and whistles. Very smooth to drive and nice quality Wireless Charging dock is a god send Cons: when driving with adaptive cruise control on, it can brake abruptly if there is a gap in the reflective lines on the road or if going around corners. Haval fixed this issues for me to some degree during a service. Heated/… Read more

ventilated seats/ ventilated seats seem to make you sweat more? I live in tropical Queensland and when I turn the ventilated seats on in summer it seems to make it worse. Other passengers have commented the same. Also the setting seem to go back to factory mode everytime you switch the car off. Meaning you have to go and turn it on each time you start the car. I would rather it remembered what selection I had it on each time.

Abit of lag in acceleration.

I did have a knock in the suspension that turned out to be a bolt loose. Thankfully this was covered under insurance as haval would have charged me $300+ to tighten it.

Other than the faults listed above I am very happy with my purchase. Quality of interior is very nice. Paint job seems to be better than my hilux.

It's good value for money – I bought this as a tax write off towards the end of 2022 FY. I have a BMW x5 2018 Model as well. But the feature pack on the Haval H6 Ultra is amazing. More than what BMW have. Insfact I gave BMW to my wife and I'm solely driving Haval H6 now. I have it serviced once and second due next month and so far I haven't had a single issue with the car. I have drive it to QLD from Melbourne and It was a breeze.

Solid car but not without its faults – Firstly the good - the car looks sharp. Good lines with nice curves and some lovely small touches, like the lights on the dashboard, light strip (a la Porsche Cayenne) on the rear - not to mention the long sun roof and dual screens up front. It is also quite nice to drive and feels solid and safe. Now the not so good - the cruise control doesn't… Read more

like corners and breaks hard for anything more than a gentle curve. The car phone also gets a lot of comments about poor call quality and this seems to get a gently denial from the service center. Lastly when changing gears there is a definite lag before you can touch the accelerator - I have had multiple vaguely embarrassing over revving moments when I forget to count to three before engaging throttle when switching from reverse to drive or vice versa! Overall this is a solid and sturdy vehicle with some very good looks - there are just a few frustrations that take the shine off what could be a truly great SUV.

Someone is going to get killed driving one of these – Bought 2 GT Ultras for my business thinking they were pretty good - how wrong I was. We do a lot of highway/motorway driving and they're both undrivable on Cruise Control with their Smart Cornering. B-Double. Someone is going to get killed.

Without exaggeration, Haval's are downright dangerous in these conditions, so much so I've instructed my people not to drive them on the open highway. How did this get past ANCAP testing ?

It's going to the dealership in 2 days for a software update - if there is no fix then I'm selling both cars.

Look, there's a good car trying to get out, but until Haval fix Smart Cornering, then it's a lemon.

An easy buy but Haval needs to fix AAC as a matter of urgency – I've now had my burgundy Haval Vanta 4WD ($44,485 on road) for 2 weeks and have managed 2,5000km regional (SA) just enjoying a drive around in it. It replaced my Jeep Grand Cherokee which is a similar sized medium SUV (although vastly different motors). My search for a new car took 3 months and after viewing hundreds of second hand 4WD with 100k… Read more ·  3

on the clock for $35k+, I finally settled for the extra coin and went brand new with the Haval.

It's a top of the line Vanta (albeit, that's $1000 extra for $5 worth of black paint), on road for less than $45k with 7 year unlimited km warranty and fixed prices servicing. It sold me.

With a sunroof that the kids absolutely love, black trim, nice style, good economy, good ride, tonnes of options and a 5 star ANCAP rating, it's a hard car to not seriously consider.

(Note that there are a few seriously over the top complaints to be found on the internet, some likely faked, are little more than xenophobic, bordering on racism attacks on 'Chinese'. It's a sad indictment of the times we live in. Keep in mind China is a 3000 year old civilisation capable of nuclear weapons, space flight and the finest of arts. I also heard someone say recently that GWM has some 18,000 engineers. In my opinion, if a good car, comparable to what Europe could make, at half the price, can't be made by China, it can't be made.)

So here is a list of a few things found thus far...

To begin, I'll address a couple of common complaints I read about before buying.

- Sound system. I think this is quite OK. Turn off DTS and use the EQ for bass, treble and mid adjustments. - BT mic for phone. I shouted first time after reading complaints, didn't need to. Heard fine, while driving. - Touchy throttle. This is true but, with experience, easy to get used to. Light feet saves fuel in any case. - Turbo lag when overtaking. It's minor and I'm surprised people complain. It's a turbo. - Lack of performance. Absolute rubbish this one. When this thing gets up, for its size, it gets up. - Gearbox clunk. Had this happen a couple of times now, very minor. Always at low speed taking off at an angle. Given this an 4WD model, it may be the drive unit adjusting. Not concerned given it's a 7 year warranty and servicing will be done by an dedicated Haval dealer. - I've seen reviews where some say the ride is a bit spongy, some too tight and it suffers road noise, which was partly true. But my tyre pressures were too high, with 42psi cold. Adjusted to 34psi, which the TPMS 'allows', modified noise and ride appreciately. Can talk normally at 110km/hr with no issues. - TPMS not resetting. It does take a while but had no issues. Warnings about low pressure a bit weird though. Had warning for tyre at 32psi but not for 31psi. - UI confusing? Not at all. Like all technologies, when something is new, you have to learn it. After 2 weeks I could write the manual from memory. - Fuel consumption. I'm mixed on this. On the highway, although new, I'm down to 7.2km/100. Around town, with 2 mild hills this has spiked at 15km/100, abeit temporarily. However, compared to Jeep (with 4l naturally aspirated petrol) at 15km+ on the highway, the Haval will blow this away given we're almost exclusively country driving. *********************************** **AN IMPORTANT COMPLAINT** - The adaptive cruise control (ACC) is *dangerous* in my view with the car suddenly slowing in bends at 110km/h, even braking at that speed down to as low as 85km in one instance. The shift in inertia (particuarly when steering is in light mode) can throw you, which is one problem, having a vehicle almost hit you from behind due to the rapidity of speed reduction is another. Both are real concerns.

Yes, it's avoidable by picking up the throttle before the bend (CC will go grey to show you've got the revs) but this completely negates the idea of cruise control, particularly on long drives. Haval need to provide a way to turn this 'safety feature' off. I've heard people say Haval can't because it's 'integrated' but this is rubbish. As a coder, if something can be turned on, it can also be turned off. It's that simple. Presumably, since my car is 2 weeks old, any 'upgrade' (version 006) has been done so don't expect a fix being told that's all it needs at this time.

HAVAL, YOU NEED TO FIX THIS. ***********************************

My own (minor) complaints so far.

- I drive a lot at night and roos are a problem. High beam is atrocious and first task has been to organise a nudge bar and driving lights. Adjustment may help given I noticed I was koala spotting in the left hand trees last time I drove at night, so I'll be investigating this soon. - Additionally, during night driving I prefer a very dark interior. In my Jeep I can turn down dash lights to almost non-existent. In the Haval, settings are in negative and it's still way too bright. Centre screen has an off switch but it doesn't go off off, just to a (too bright) status screen. - Trip meter. Knowing my average and instant fuel consumption is fine but I want to be able to set a tripmeter and measure how far a tank gets. Pen & paper are needed here, literally. The Trip A option resets each drive and Trip B is total with averages. - No seat tilt. It's taken a while to get my seat set for long distance driving and without tilt, finding the perfect setting is tricky. It's not bad though but a 5000k round trip to Perth in the New Year might change my mind. - Engine temperature gauge. A little bar does nothing for me. In a place where temps can get to 48c, I want to know the degrees to *avoid* overheating if driving a certain way, not wait for a warning and have to stop in the middle of nowhere (if it's 46c for example.)

All in all, this is a very good car and I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase and I think you will be too. Take some of the complaints with a pinch of salt and above all, when looking at some of the reviews, measures like 0-100 in 8 seconds and how fast it turns into corners is NOT how you measure a mid-sized family SUV, although the Haval does both reasonably well. The 'sports' in SUV doesn't necessarily mean Formula 1, it could mean water ballet :)

For now, this is my list. I'll try to come back and update this as my time with 'AVA' (my wife chose that, not me) progresses. Given GWM is relatively new in Australia, a well grounded reputation will take awhile.

Thank you for reading.

(The image I have used from a dealer site is not my car but it is the exact same, including trim). (21/12/2002 - Minor typo update done)

Love this car – I use this car every day for short urban and longer highway trips, i sold my CX5 and bought this one AU$47K. this car has it all, smooth to drive, high on road very safe. Very spacious even for a big guy, loads of room at the back, USB every where, AC outlet at back too. Breaks can be a little soft, controls could be more intuitive. Show details

Overall good, but hands-free can't be heard dealer says Haval say it can't be fixed – Bought the H6 Ultra with Vanta package in April for about 40k on road thinking it was great value for features offered. Only done and just had first 10k service. My main and big issue is the hands-free mic cannot be heard unless car is stationary with engine off and I shout into mic. Dealer says it is a common H6 problem and cannot be fixed as… Read more

Haval wont replace software or mic etc saying they are not faulty. So I now have to drive around and unplug phone on speaker to make a call, then plug back in to get apple-play and navigation - a major safety issue. Very disappointed as otherwise I am very happy with the car. Love the many features like heated seats, HUD, leather-like seats, moon roof, apple play nav on big screen. Very powerful and drives well, although ride is a bit soft/floaty. Intelligent driving does take some getting used to - cruise seems a bit insensitive and then overreactive, driving right up to car in front before braking quite late. Also cruise/lane assist can slow car unexpectedly midway around a curve - have learnt to accelerate though curves to compensate.

Excellent car, value for money – I bought the Haval H6 Ultra 4WD 2021 in late Nov. 2021 and have been waiting for over 6 months and only able to drive my Haval for about 2 weeks now. 2 cars, Volvo don't have the "new car smell", very quiet when driving and give me 7L/100km due to it's 48V mild-hybrid system. Having said that, I reckon Haval H6 present much better value for money! Very smooth, powerful, give me under 8L/100km, the “surround-view monitor” system I think is much better than Volvo(B5 don't have auto parking!), also more option of L2 functions then Volvo. Very happy with my Haval so far!

Not a good car at all added to review after 1 year – I bought the 2021 ultra in the sapphire blue for my wife's birthday, it's been back 4 times for faults and about to go back again for a light rain sensor fault. It's cruise control is dangerous even after the so called update. And the transmission when cold will leave you sitting in the middle of the road waiting to engage. Such a massive… Read more

disappointment .. update after a year.. The Haval continues to disappoint now with tyre sensors refusing to clear days after tyre pressure corrected. The engine timing is also incorrect and "Pings" due to being too advanced l am hoping the next service will fix that problem.

Haval H6 Ultra – Bought the car in July 2021. First service is 10000Km or maybe around 6 months. We had our Haval serviced by end of October which was just 3 months. That's how much we enjoy driving the Haval H6. Some people stop to ask about the car which we never got from our previous car. It just shows how attractive the car is for people to notice. We love everything about it- Specs, presentation and performance especially. Show details

only complaint I have is that the auto gear changer is rotary, I still find it confusing when going backwards and forwards in a tight parking spot. For manual gear changing there are paddles on the steering wheel, very easy to use. I still have to try the level 2 auto driving, though for the little I have tested it is great for keeping in the lane. For services, it is too early to comment on that, but over the years I have lost faith in brand name service centres but as this car is so reliant on computers and a new model I am sure there will be updates and I imagine only dealerships can do that.
