via email to ask for shipping details. They did respond promptly but to advise that even though the listing said the lamps were available to view in their showroom apparently they were actually shipping from a third party supplier and would ship by next week.

Another week passed and I followed up again via email. The response in itself was indicative of what was to happen next “ let us follow this up for you” as in this is a third party issue but we’ll help you out to try and solve it. No apology and no ownership of the issue which at this point was that 2 weeks had passed for something that was supposed to happen in 2 days and there had been zero communication from them. In the afternoon I received a call saying the reason the lamps hadn’t shipped was because the shades weren’t available but they were sending me an image of another shade with an additional trim which was “nicer” and could be sent today or I could wait until next week for a plain shade in a similar fabric. When I pressed them for further information about the shades (and it took a number of questions and felt similar to pulling teeth) it turned out neither shade was a genuine Arterior shade and there had clearly been no plans to disclose this to me. When I advised that I had paid for a genuine Arteriors lamp and shade and a non genuine shade would affect the resale price if I decided to sell them in the future I was met with “ok we’ll send you a refund then”. No apology was given.

I would steer clear of Home Furniture on Consignment if an honest purchase is important to you.

Rip off merchants – Bought a piece from them but they never state what it will cost in delivery, the product shows up at your door with a delivery guy demanding cash for delivery, and the cost is substantial.... in my case $480 product costing another $220 in delivery, few dollars more and I have a brand new product. Do not use these dodgy service .... on top, the product had a fault... raised it as a complaint... no one responded. Show details

Great business and service – Really good quality second hand furniture - business owners are friendly, approachable and helpful. All goods are authentic. Great to see businesses like this up and running which are encouraging recycling and quality products. Show details

Hit and miss – They have a showroom, but you can only visit by appointment. Fair enough, but I have enquired about two items on two separate occasions advertised on their website and neither were available to view. I had to wait for them and it was all just too hard, for them, not me. Not sure how businesses like this exist. Though I have to say, the people were polite and prompt with replies. Show details

Damaged goods and overcharged on delivery – I bought an item with a marble top. The photos showed no marks and some very minor blemishes. The description said it was in excellent condition. Having purchased online, I called to organise interstate delivery and was given a price of $220. When the item was delivered it had two very prominent stains not visible in the photos. worse, the delivery guy asked $400 for delivery from my wife not knowing the quoted price, she paid. I called HFOC to follow up this overcharging. John (I think) promised to call the delivery guy and sort it out and then call me. It's been four days. No call. I can live with the marks, annoying as that is - its secvond hand furniture. But I feel cheated on the delivery. A $600 piece ended up costing $1000. I could have bought a copy new for less than $600, no marks and transparent delivery charge. I just had an entire lounge and 2 beds delivered twice the distance for $150.
