Hisense 520L Bottom Mount

RELIABILITY ISSUES – At year 3 into its life the display on the front door became intermittent, sometimes it would display fridge and freezer temps, sometimes not. It is also where you adjust temps if required. No biggie! Carry on. It still basically works. At year 7 the fridge section got hot and destroyed the food. The bottom freezer part was working fine.… Read more
Loathe to offer it up as landfill I decided to go with one of the Rs (Reduce, Repair, Recycle). So I call the man in.
His diagnosis was the internal fan. Apparently the freezer section does all the cooling work and it is blown and ducted up to the top fridge area. The fan that blows it up there seems to be buggered.
After getting the part in on the monthly camel train it was replaced a month later and I was hit with a hefty bill for $400. Happy to pay the if its going to keep my beer cold.
You guessed it. After 2 weeks hot beer! Called the man back. This time he diagnosed several things. The squiget board that opens the gate to let the cold air go up to the fridge was not playing the game. Also the motor that operated the gate was not functioning either. He was ready to fire the parts cannon at it to fix it. I heard the 'chinging' of cash registers in the background so called it all off.
For $1000 I could get a new fridge that I know will keep my frothies frozen and not go into a stop work meeting whenever it was inclined.
So is 7 years enough for the life of a fridge/ freezer. I think not. They should go a lifetime and be simple to repair. By the other comments here I am not the only one to see it that way. Hisense of course would disagree. It is to their commercial advantage for the appliance to fail immediately after the warranty expires.
Very disappointing fridge – Temperature indicator on front of fridge indicating temperature stopped working after one year. After two years fridge kept leaking water and now after 6 years fridge doesn't work at all but freezer does. I was quoted over $500 to get fixed! Steer clear of Hisense Show details
DO NOT BUY - wish I could give no stars – This fridge is so terrible. I regret buying it. We bought it back in 2013. And ever since then it has been a problem. We have had the motor replaced, the motherboard replaced among a huge pile of issues. It has leaked water, temperate panel broken and seals all had to be replaced after twelve months. This fridge freezes anything and everything… Read more
that is towards the back of the fridge regardless of what temperature it is set to.
The freezer is constently defrosting and refreezing our food.
The layout of the fridge is good. As long as you don't we'd anything cold it's great. Hahaha

BEWARE Dont bother buying if you have insects!!! – Started having problems about 12 months after purchase/display board intermittently worked then didn't work. Door open warning would work then wouldn't work, then would beep when door shut. Fridge then stopped cooling, then would go cool. Then one day both fridge and freezer stopped working-after smelling gas-then day later started working again.… Read more
We now have no display on front of fridge and fridge works one day and then not the next-on and off.
Still under warranty so rang HISENSE and they arranged a technician to come out. He opened the cover of the circuit board and there was a cockroach in there and told me that the fridge wasn't working because of cockroaches getting into fridge circuitry and messing it up!! HISENSE policy is to not touch the fridge if you find cockroaches!! Tell me what house in Australia doesn't have cockroaches?????? He took photos of said cockroach and did not investigate further. He told me ants can also cause problems with them!!
I have a fifteen year old fridge out in the shed that has never skipped a beat-cockroaches and all!!!!
Waste of a $1000 -
Love it – We bought this fridge about 3 years ago and have not had any problems at all. It can be quite cold toward the back but we don't consider that a problem, the crisper works really well and have never had anything freeze in it. Its pretty quiet although sometimes we do hear it and then it goes quiet again. The plastic parts are good, some seem a… Read more
little light, but none have broken and really, im not that gentle with these things. No problem with the glass shelves either. All of them are easy enough to clean, the door compartments easily lift off to remove and clean.
The freezer is really good, the drawers are easy to open and close and are very smooth to operate.
We managed to dent the door in places unfortunately but thats entirely our fault.
We bought this fridge for just under $1000 i think and believe its been very good value. We never expected it to last 10 years but it would be nice if it did. Im surprised at the problems people have had with it as per other reviews.
We also have had three Hisense tv's over the years and never had a problem with those either.
We hope this continues.
Great Value – With 3 kids we didn't want to spend a fortune on a fridge that would get beaten up in no time. I was also not keen on the design of some of the brand name bottom mount fridges available but couldn't wait as my old fridge was almost dead. We've had this fridge about 6 months and it hasn't missed a beat. It's quiet, it's organized pretty well,… Read more
the lighting is nice and the temperature display on the front is nice. It comes with all the things the brand name fridges do like door alarm and led lighting as well as an ice cube section in the freezer. It has 2 very functional drawers in the freezer as opposed to a deep drawer which is great for organization.
It did look a little plastic around the edges of the shelves however these have proven to be surprisingly hardy and strong.
The shelving is a little crowded and as a family of 5 we often have a number of drink containers that don't fit in the door and have to be laid flat along a shelf as there isn't enough height for them to stand up. I think this is probably a problem with all bottom mount fridges however rather than a fault of this particular design.
Because of the above issue it does sometimes get ice build up on the vent at the back and freezes some of the drinks on the top shelf. Lowering the temperature doesn't seem to help, it just means everything gets wet and drips.
The only other thing I don't like is the veggie crisper. The vents seem to close very easily and the kids often bump them closed, making my veggies spoil. The design might have been better with 2 separate drawers also as you have to swing the door wide wide open to be able to get in there at all.
Other than that though, for the price we are very happy and would absolutely purchase this brand again.

So Far, an excellent Refrigerator choice – Bought this in 2014 and has worked without a hitch. Sidewall gives off a little heat but not really a problem. Adequate Fridge and Freezer space for 2-4 adults and or Kids. Show details
Don't bother – Has failed three times within four years, issues with the thermostat which has caused the motor to fail. Parts that were replaced have failed again. Was told there would be a warranty on the parts replaced and even that the whole fridge could potentially be replaced if it failed again, should have gotten that in writing. Absolutely not good enough to have a new fridge fail so many times, would not buy another fridge through Hisense. Show details
Top Fridge Great Price – We are stoked with out new fridge - it looks absolutely excellent in the kitchen and replaced and ancient Kelvinator that was well overdue to be upgraded. The first thing was "ahhhh" it runs quiet, awesome. I notice that it freezes things much faster too. The layout inside is just lovely and well thought out. Theres just the two of us so 520 litres seems generous. We are totally happy with it Show details
Great Value Been Excelent – We needed and upgrade from out tiny starter fridge and bought this mostly on price. It looks good too but we wanted a much larger fridge to fit our budget. It has been an excellent choice. Never gives us any problems and runs quiet as anything. It has excellent adjustable shelves inside that are super easy to clean - just need a quick wipe.… Read more
Freezer works well and I like the underneath style as it keep the fridge part up high. It was a good choice and I would recommend this model.
Value for money! – The best fridge I’ve owned so far due to practicality, quite running no problems, great to clean due to practical large design ☺️ Gone are the days of crouching to browse the most accessed compartment, this fridge has a great open plan with ease of bowing everything at a glance due to the bright cool lighting Show details
Good for the price – Is good for the price, fridge part is brilliant, heaps of room, being on the top it's easier to reach everything. The freezer however is not as roomy as it appears, the main fault is the middle drawer in the freezer gets stuck, it's also the biggest drawer so rather annoyingly the one I use the most. Show details
It’s not the best! But okay – We were told that this model does not freeze the vegetables if they are within the fridge section. However, past 5 months, if I put vegetables towards the back of the fridge it freezes them. It also makes some noise which can get quite loud especially in hot weather. It has a wide space in it and more than enough for 4 people. Freezer part is also very wide and no issues at all. Show details

Awesome fridge - exceeded expectations – We were initially hesitant to purchase this due to some conflicting reviews online. After assurance from the salesperson at Harvey Norman, we decided to get this fridge because it was competitively priced and looked pretty decent quality. I love the bottom freezer drawers - it seems to fit a lot more in and is easier to access than the regular… Read more
freezer shelving. The twist ice tray is awesome, and the tray below it allows you to keep plenty of ice on hand. The fridge shelving and door storage is perfect, I would definitely recommend the 520L size.
Great fridge for its price – I was looking for a bottom mount fridge which fit the dimensions that I needed, and came across this one. It does a great job of keeping food cool, but has a couple of little issues. Firstly, unpacking this thing is a very frustrating experience, get someone with small hands and patience to help you remove all the tape inside the fridge. It also… Read more
makes quite a loud noise when defrosting, so don't be too scared. Overall a good fridge for its value.
Great fridge! – Have not had an issue apart from door rack plastics breaking after 2yrs. Very cheap to replace $27.50ea quoted from Hisense support y'day(6/2/18). Love the warranty(3yrs). After owning top mount freezers I love the bottom mount slide out freezer. Great size for growing families. No noise. Easy to clean. Very easy to keep temperatures where you want them with the front door digital temperature display/pad. Show details
Love My Fridge/Freezer Perfect Family Size – Great Fridge, Temperature is shown on the front of the Fridge & keeps Great, The fridge has got a little noisy on occasions but otherwise very quiet. The Stainless Steel finish is easy to clean & keeps it looking New. Has a small ice cube tray, 1 smaller Drawers & 2 Large Drawers which gives you a lot of space & organisation for your frozen foods.
Avoid - invest a little more & save a bunch! – Our three year old (yes, just out of warranty) Hisense HR6BMFF520S has now had the thermostat replaced and is on it's way to getting a new controller - with no end in sight and ZERO response from Hisense on the matter - if you're considering a product from this company, I'd suggest a second thought (or an extended warranty at least). looking at spending $500 to repair a fridge ($200 already, with a further $300) which we chose because it cost just a little less than the comparable LG or Samsung (both of which, with the benefit of hindsight) would have actually been a cheaper option.
Strange that we debated over a few hundred dollars for something like this - yet we can spend thousands on a mobile phone (both of which we use every day - but one, when it fails takes hundreds of dollars worth of food with it). Reasonable heads prevail, but I'm now keen on something that works (so happy to invest a bit more).
We've now purchased a fridge from Samsung along with a warranty to company - I've reached out again to Hisense in hopes they're appalled at the performance of their fridge (and offer to supply the parts required to rectify) but based on their lack of response thus far - I think I might as well just be talking directly to the fridge... (which, let's remember, doesn't work...)
Great but little noisey – It's a fantastic fridge - love the style and the shape with a great price rage but the fridge it self is a little noisy and can be a little annoying sometimes when the noise starts but apart from that I'm really happy with the space and design of fridge. Show details
Working Well was very noisy when working but quiet after being fixed – Update: I get Hisense to have a look of my Fridge: the technician tighten up the disposal pipe and the Fridge becomes very quite.... I am very happy now:) My fridge is very loud since bought. Can hear it in bedroom. Very disturbing experience. I moved it several times but it was not fixed. Otherwise it is a good Fridge. It has worked… Read more
well. Spacious and clean.
It mains good temperature all the parts and all the time.
Overall a bit disappointed about the noise. Maybe I was not lucky...
This is perfect! – It is quit when working, and it is easy yo clean, all just wrap, for better clean is good to clean by take out part frequently. The machine will notice you if you open the fridge long time. The temperature in both department are good. There is one section can control the humidity, and is good for vegetables. Show details
perfect for family – temp does have to be varied depending on time of the year, no hassles quite, we dont even notice it tuning on and off very easy to clean the crisper is very large and good place to hide chocolates, as no one seems to search a crisper for "goodies" We have a lot of people permanently living in our house and the battering it gets from the door… Read more

LOVE MY FRIDGE/FREEZER – Absolutely love my fridge/freezer, allows me to change the temperatures on the fridge and the freezer. The freezer has 2 large section aswell as a place for ice and then a space for the ice to be stored. Easy to keep clean, loads of room inside the fridge. One very happy customer Show details
Best fridge I've ever owned! – Hisense have a winner with this fridge. Maintains temperature and has an easy to use digital display on the front of the fridge. This fridge is very spacious and when full still keeps everything cold. Love the upside down orientation. So much easier to see and access fridge items. Great storage in the freezer. Pull out drawers make for easy access. Highly recommend Show details
Great fridge when it was running – I bought this fridge over 3 years ago and over that time the fridge would not run cold intermediatey ,the service from hisense over the phone was excellent and a mechanic would come out within 3 days, the problem happened 3 times and a 4th time while out of warranty and Hisense agreed to replace the fridge through Harvey Norman and I decided to go with a Westinghouse instead Show details
Good, honest fridge – This hisense 520L fridge freezer has been a good purchase so far. I won't say excellent due to the noise occasionally that has a tendancy to be moderate at times. Easy to clean and haven't found anything that sticks to it yet. Keeps temps well and has the added feature of a "boost" chill or freeze which is good for the summer. Veges stay crisp for… Read more
a good while in the designated compartments and for the price i paid I'm happy enough. Stainless probably wasn't the best with kids but easy enough to clean.
Liked it until it stopped working – I loved this fridge until one day it stopped working, luckily it was less than 6 months before the 3 year warranty ran out and the place I purchased it had a copy of the receipt on file. Hisense are fantastic at dealing with issues, sent a technician out and realised straight away that it'd have to be replaced. Show details
Excellent – Excellent...great size for a family....love the freezer on the bottom as it makes the fridge more user friendly. The wide bottle storage on the door gIve plenty of room for milk and juice cartons. Freezer has plenty of drawer space with an ice cube tray, freezes quickly for those small ice cubes needed in a hurry. Show details
Good fridge and value for money product – Great value product fits the purpose, our family is enjoying this product since purchasing last year, no problem what so ever with functionality, the door alarm is a important feature, very helpful for families with young children, could save lots of money. Great looking and heaps of space for all kinds of food. Show details
Big captivity and low cost for the electric – The fridge is always cool even makes the drive to ice a little bit but the temp tire shows it's 7 degrees! It maintains a good temp tire in every conner even on the door And no sound at all! So big space for my grocery food n very easy to clean up even I always make a mess I just need to clean once a month! Show details
About to see how good the 3 yr warranty is! – I have had the Fridge/Freezer for less than 2 years and the coating on the Stainless Steel is peeling off the fridge door. The operation of the Fridge/Freezer itself is perfect so far, but the coating peeling off makes it look tatty and dirty. I have lodged a claim, lets see how that goes. Show details
Buyer beware!!!! – Warranty doesn't cover rust and corrosion. Fridge not even 12 months old. Front door at top and bottom have started to rust. Hisense will NOT cover this. Fridge door is a little hard to open. Has very good suction. Apart from that the fridge is great. Freezer has lots of room. Show details
Its good but has some issues – When I first got it, everything froze up, cost me a fortune in fruit and veg. They sent someone out who replaced a part and it was vastly improved. I cant put fruit directly on the shelves as they can still freeze, but in a tray is fine. No one followed up on the repair issue to see if I was happy or not. It is lovely and roomy with wide shelves… Read more
and a ice compartment. The fruit and vegetable crisper is difficult to pull out and clean- requires a bit of effort to put back in place. Feels a bit flimsy
Once a day the sides heat up like crazy and melt/ damage anything on the countertop close to it -Eg butter.
I hope it lasts a while, and I chose it because of the price.
Good fridge at a good price – I love the temperature gauge. The glass shelves are easy to clean. I find the middle shelf of the fridge freezes sometimes, but only when I don't have much in the fridge. I'm very happy with the brand. I bought a Hisense deep freezer 3 years ago which is still working well. And I've had an upright freezer that has been moved to six houses over a period of 2 years which is still going strong. perfect space, very bad quality! – it's a beautiful and roomy fridge. Unfortunately, after a few months a noise started and I lost the count of the amount of food that the fridge frozen down. The technical service change a part of the fridge, and the fridge started freezing the stuff even far from the back of the fridge. Show details
