Fantastic first car/learner car, pretty average in general – 2014 Barina CD TM automatic sedan. Urban commuting. Daily driver. Servicing up to date. Overall, just an ok car that runs. Mine has had no major issues, 3rd owner. Fuel efficiency is only slightly better than average, the car is generally weak in power but more than sufficient for general urban/suburban driving. Interior is ok, the two gloveboxes… Read more

is cool. The radio fascia and dashboard is okay, a bit dated but clean and simplistic. The car is not too noisy but sounds gnarly at high rpm. Also, deceptively large boot.

Honestly it's fine. Just fine. Probably ideal for a learner or fresh p plater just wanting something tame and economic.

Absolutely stellar second-hand car, some minor issues – I bought this car just over a month ago, and I love it to absolute bits. There's so many good things about it, which I will go into detail about, but first, there are a couple of minor issues I've found. First and probably most worryingly, the cars anti-theft alarm isn't up to par. Someone was able to break the left rear-quarter window, pop the… Read more

boot release, get into the boot, push down the back seats, and unlock the car from the inside without setting off the alarm. The immobiliser works perfectly, and the thief got away with no valuables, but an after-market alarm would be a consideration.

Secondly, the horn is a bit timid to say the least, and finally the rear windscreen has no wiper, so it is easily obscured in heavy rain.

Other than those issues, this is a great car. It is economical, and has enough power to make overtaking manoeuvrers an easy breeze, the handling and manoeuvrability is excellent for getting into and out of tight spaces, and the parking sensors make reversing a breeze.

The stereo is excellent, and the media controls on the steering wheels are responsive and easy to navigate, and the cruise control functionality makes motorway driving very pleasant. While I haven't been able to figure out the "tiptronic" gearbox, it does seem easy to use for someone who knows how, and of course the 6-speed automatic gearbox makes it zippy in town and on the motorway.

If you're looking for a great second-hand car, and you see one of these on offer, don't hesitate to snap it up, as I absolutely love mine, despite the few issues, which are easily solved with a few after-market modifications. Couldn't give it a 4.5/5, but that would be my rating if I could give it.

Holden Berina CD – This is the worst car I have ever bought. I had a Hyundai for 17 years and it still ran well when i gave it up for the Berina. After 9 months i needed a new gear box, then my reverse lights only worked in neutral which caused me to reverse into a black car in a dark street. Then it was over reving needed this back into the dealership. Then… Read more

i got a letter requiring a new ignition due to faulty made. But this hasnt stopped the car starting on its own. Now i have faulty air bags. This is inbetween a dealership that deliberately damaged my coolant tank when it went in for a service. It went in perfect and came out over heating. They wanted to charge me $65 for a light globe, twice the price for a coolant tank and new wind screen wipers, all in one service. and then the brakes went too and they wanted to charge me $750 for just the brakes. That was just the front brakes. I got them done elsewhere for $450. I got my globe chucked in for free and as i had to have the coolant tank replaced i got that at cost. How the dealership could rort and the car be such a piece of rubbish and they have got away with this not just to me but to all they serve. But they kindly called me to see if i wanted to upgrade my vehicle. When the gear box went i had taken it in for the service on Friday and told them there was something wrong with the gear box. I picked the car up in the afternoon, they said they checked it and it was fine. On the way to the doctor in the morning the gear box broke down. Here i was driving it mile away back to the dealership and told there wasnt anyone to look at it for at least a week. They didnt check it in the first place. Today ive had to replace the engine mount and coils. Yep you are reading right a NEW ENGINE MOUNT AND COILS, hopefully in the next week i will get the faulty air bags done too. Holden know what they can do with their cars. Never ever will i resort to such a piece of garbage again. Sad thing is its registered as a disabled vehicle. This review has exhausted me.

Started Falling To Bits At 100,000k – Paid $13,000 brand new & it started falling to bits after 100,000 kilometres on the clock. Was probably worth the money but id highly recommend staying as far away from this car as possible once it hits 100,000k… Show details

Worst car I had seen in my life – I bought brand new car for peace of mind which not give me more expense for couple of years but since I bought barina at 10k some noise coming from engine while car goes 10 to 40 than no noise check with city Holden 8 times they said it’s charactristic of car than I drive 30 other company car but no car has noise like that at 30k oil leak from… Read more

engine they didn’t tell me even if I am doing all service there I found out when I check my car out side it cost 1400$ but lucky in warranty after that 45k done engine mount and bush gone they fix it so with this low mileage lots of parts gone I think they use cheap parts.

The worst car I have ever owned! – I don't know what Holden was thinking when they put this piece of junk into production, I will list the problems I have with the car in point form because there are many. •It basically has no features the interior looks like a desert. •It sucks so much fuel it's ridiculous, it's a small car with a small engine how it can suck down 50L of fuel… Read more

in under 350 km is beyond me.

•The engine is the worst 1.6 I have driven, no power, noisy, lags, did I mention the noise it sounds like it's being strangled just getting to 80.

•The engine blew at 90000 because of a broken cooling hose & the engine temperature gauge suspiciously sitting on just below half where it should be so I turned the car off and back on after the head gasket blew & the temp gauge was still on half. Is that gauge actually connected to anything Holden???

•Now the air bags, when a guy pulled out in front of my wife & a Tbone accident at 80km ensued not one airbag worked.

But don't worry the drivers side eventually did when it was towed to the shop for repair & the tow driver opened the door then it went off nearly taking his arm with it.

•The automatic clutch completely fell to pieces at 120000

I have more but won't bore you all in all it is a very cheaply made piece of junk I had always liked Holdens but after my wife had that thing I will never let another Holden within a 100 meters of my driveway.

Do not buy this car please.

Surprisingly reliable and sporty – This is a surprising little vehicle. It's surprisingly attractive, even in white. It's also surprisingly nippy. The dash is laid out really well and the five-speed manual transmission is smooth and intuitive. Inside there's plenty of room and it's plain to see that the styling is going for 'mini' Commodore, which it pulls off surprisingly well.… Read more ·  1

For $14,990 I reckon you'd be hard-pressed to get better value. Two years in and not one iota of trouble. Starts, runs like a little trooper and, if I wanted to (and, of course, I don't) I could easily drag off most larger cars from the lights. The cruise control is particularly sweet. All in all, a great buy. Love it.

Worst Car from the Worst Dealership: Metro Motors Morley Western Australia – From the time we bought it, we had bad luck. Brand new from Metro Motors Morley. The day we were supposed to get our car they didn't contact us and I called them after a couple of days and they advised that the law in Western Australia a car can be delivered to the owner after three months. Two days later I managed to speak to the owner of the… Read more

dealership about his salespeople and he was apologetic in person. Not until I picked up a brand new car with half a tank fuel and then after three days of using it the electrical part stopped working completely. I had to contact RAC on my expense and spare time while I had to be at work and they advised me it was a computer failure. I then contact Metro Motors and spoke to the owner of the dealership, to complain about the car and he was very rude saying that he didn't give a F* about me and the car so I should get lost. This is a mature adult who has children speaking to me a customer who keeps his business running.

I then contact Consumer Protection and they advised that they could only do something if the car had technical problem then they could intervene.

The car it self

The car it self, the worst acceleration power. Its has a big pause when you step on the accelerator before it moves.

No light in the inside back or middle of the car, huge advantage for someone with kids when wanting to move car seats to stuff at night.

The blind spot is awful, it really blinds your vision. Myself and my husband are totally different heights we are always complaining about it.

Its on capped price service which I think its a rip off, you service it within the period specified or the kilometers indicated. ( You were on holiday for six months or weren't driving it you still have to service it to get a discount).

Yes it stylish or looks stylish but its not worth any penny!

I did contact Holden Assistance about the dealership and feedback on the car and the basically didn't care.

At that point I understood why people say that when people at the top in the Organisation are good then its past on to all the employees but in this case the person on top was awful and it reflected in his employees customer service.Myself, my husband, family and friends have advised not to buy a Holden Barina especially from Metro Motors in Morley Western Australia.Worst customer service and It will be your worst nightmare!

With such an experience like myself and my family have experienced AND EVERYONE WONDERS IN AUSTRALIA WHY HOLDEN IS MOVING OVERSEAS??

Great value for money – Looking over the previous reviews, we were a little worried. A test drive showed the previous reviewers were right - sluggish performance driving almost as bad as a diesel. But we bought a 2013 Barina TM sedan pictured anyway because it is a great car for the money. To people worried about performance, it is not a sports car, but a six speed 1.6… Read more

litre auto designed for economy. Don't put ethanol in it - no wonder it drives like a diesel and coughs and splutters - ethanol is 100% proof alcohol which is better in scotch whiskey or vodka than in a car. Our car is performing well since we stuck to pure unleaded petrol. The other thing is that if you want speed rather than economy the car manual says to kick down the gears - a gently nudge on the accelerator will drop a gear to go up a hill. All the motoring writers complain about 6-speed autos because they are always hunting for an economic gear rather than a speed gear for hills. So those problems are solved. So far we have had no teething problems. What we also liked was that its got more cockpit room than the Mazda 3 which is claustrophobic in comparison, and a great boot (500 litres, almost the same as our old Commodore), but it competes in price with the Mazda 2 and its cohorts with littler wheels. The Barina has good size 15 inch wheels. It also has most of the modern features, and has a 5 star safety rating. With Holden's current deals, it really is 5 star value for money, if that's the type of car you want.

2015 update at 17000km: still going really well - did country trip with 3 adults & luggage recently - kept up with traffic easily - only problem has been tyre balance and wheel alignment.

Re: no centre console armrest - we bought one cheaply from eBay and I screwed it in myself. Works well. Economy, large boot in the sedan, front headlight styling, bluetooth, price. No middle armrest
