I'm on my 2nd Holman 3130H and the batteries are rubbish. I can not source a battery by itself which is why I bought the second unit. I should have known better. The battery died in the first one and so did the 2nd one. This item is still on the shelves and should be withdrawn from sale until they fix this problem. I've bought both of them from… Read more

the same retailer (Bunnings Tuggerah) and they admit that if they held a stock of replacement batteries they would be a big seller. Thoroughly annoyed to say the least and from reading the other reviews I can see there's no point in getting a replacement unit under warranty as it will only be the same situation over again. Holman this is not good enough!

I have persisted with this item and have had 4 replacements all under warrenty. The reel wall mount failed on 5 occasions but each time Holeman and or Bunnings replaceed under warrenty. Holeman did admit a design failure. The batteries have been a total failure. They work sparodically then fail mainly due to the pressure switch, as the battery… Read more

charges and seems to keep its charge. I have 6 and none of them work. This is one of the poorest products I have ever purchased, and even though Holeman have replace the items they fail repeadedly.

Same as other stories with the batteries. I purchased 2 units from bunnings on seperate occasions. Both no longer work. The batteries charge to full but no longer function installed in the unit. Bunnings dont have spares. Given what appears to be a common fault i am sirprised there has been no fix other than send it back for warranty which is fundamentally a waste of time given they are likely to fail again. Show details

I inherited one of these when I bought my house. It worked for me - quite unreliably - just a few times before dying. I've fully charged the battery, but it no longer works. It isn't super waterproof and the plastic is rotting in the sun. My suspicion is the reason for the failure is the $1 membrane keypad, which is completely unsuitable for… Read more

outdoor use, but annoying that a $200+ product is now dead in about 4 years for the sake of a $1 part, with no option to buy replacement battery. I guess they got sick of replacing them under warranty.

Yeah.. nahh. Great idea (for the mums and nans)... poor execution for product reliability. This was purchased to replace a 16 month old 30m Holman mechanical retractable hose (itself a replacement of a previously failed Holman unit) that just stopped working. (Needs a means of replacing the mechanism on the mechanical reels..?!) The hose itself… Read more

pulls out much easier on this electric version (hence the two stars) and has good torque to reel back in.. until it doesn't.

At least the LiON battery reel has a two year warranty. Unfortunately, I have just returned the unit for the third time - they all seem to work very nicely for under 18 months then the battery just packs it in. I'd be happy to buy again IF it was more robust.....(replaced in 2021, 2023 & now again 2025.)

The housing deteriorates in the sun very quickly - surely this cannot be have been UV stabilised..?! Maybe if a cheap fabric cover was supplied WITH the unit then this would last longer.... (And for one of the more pricier units, Holman should encourage you to protect your investment and reduce product returns)

If you are adamant on purchasing this unit, at least mount under shade out of the weather or buy a second mount to store the reel in the garage or shed (I was prepared to do this, but the reel is out of stock in all nearby Bunnings)

After three failures, I'll use my exchange voucher on another brand, even if I have to spend more... and get a FIVE year warranty.

Absolute worst product in the market – Useless product, 3 months old and battery is dead. Now the hose can't be retraced and worst part is HOLMAN doesn't have the battery as the spare part and neither does bunnings. No product backing. Really disappointing to see hose mess just sitting on the floor as a trip hazard. Not to mention the holes in the bricks for installation can't be… Read more

refilled if I remove it and put it in the bin, where it belongs. DO NOT BUY. Holman doesn't even care for peoples time putting in effort to ask when is the battery coming in stock, no response after emailing twice.

Great Product – The Holeman Battery hose reel is great and has been used every day for the last 3 years without a single fault. Trust me if it can stand up to my wife for 3 years it can stand up to anything. Trick is to release all the water pressure in the hose before you rewind this way the battery has less work and this means less charging . Great Hose Reel. Show details

Have 3 and am looking to add a 4th – We live on a large property with lots of gardens that need watering. We currently have 3 Li-ion reels and they have worked perfectly for the 3 years that we have owned them. Thinking of replacing a Holman 20mt manual hose real which is becoming difficult to rewind. Decided to look at reviews of the battery operated before I bought a 4th one and… Read more

was gobsmacked at the poor reviews. I don't understand the problems unless the origional OLD ones were better manufactured. Must admit that I now am hesitant to buy another. Curiously, I wonder if people that are happy with the unit don't write reviews, only people that have a bad experience.

Extremely unreliable - don’t waste your money! – Worked fine for a few months then stopped working, got the battery replaced under warranty and still doesn’t work. The wall mount is also extremely poorly designed and manufactured, hose reel continuously falls off the wall mount. Show details

Poor Quality, failed after 15months – I purchased two of these 15 months ago. One was mounted under cover out of the sun & it is still going ( but is hard to pull out & jams on rewind). The other one was mounted under cover but subject to afternoon sun. On this one, the mounts warped and the hose could not be pulled out without the reel popping out of the mount. The battery has… Read more

now failed, so I have returned it to Bunnings for a refund warranty claim. Great concept, poor low quality design.

Not worth the money or the effort, I would never buy another – Not worth the money or the effort, I would never buy another. The device has used infrequently over its 18 month life span. I have taken the trouble to keep it clean and ensure that the battery is regularly charged. it worked well initially, but then the controls needed several presses to initiate the recoil, it stopped working altogether soon… Read more

after that. I dismantled the control section noticing some water damage and the exterior controls appeared to have been damaged by sunlight. The hose is sold in Australian, it should cope with Australian conditions. In WA we get quite a lot of rain in winter and sunshine in summer. I improvised a repair using an external switch which has allowed me to retract the hose, I don't expect my repair to last for very long. I will be looking elsewhere for a replacement, on close examination I believe it to be a poorly designed, under-engineered device. I would have been happy if the product had been half as good as the marketing. I doubt that I will ever buy another Holman product and I will encourage others to follow my example.

Disappointing – Rubbish mount, had to wire it to wall to prevent it falling off. Battery pack failed after 2 yrs. Hard to pull out after a while. Show details

Stay CLEAR of this item, on my 3rd and it’s failed – I hate to give bad feedback but I want to help people not waste their time buying this product. Same issue as a few other people I see where the housing for the hose is basically ready to fall off the wall mount. There’s too much weight in the housing for the two tabs that slide into the wall unit… (and we make sure we don’t leave water in the… Read more

hose when it’s retracted)

I currently have my 3rd one of these and was told by Holman that they changed the mould of the plastic so this wouldn’t happen…. They didn’t and it hasn’t fixed anything. It’s a shame because it’s a good looking item. Another issue I’ve found on all 3 of these I’ve had is the hose doesn’t come out of the housing with ease, you do need to pull the hose with a bit of force. Sorry Holman but you really need to go back to the drawing board with the design of how the hose is fitted to the wall…

Works against itself – Still having problems with hose pulling out against motor friction and sometimes not fully retracting as it seems that the cavity for the hose needs to be a bit bigger. Need reversible motor that also unwinds the hose..... easy as. also for what they charge they could have put a non kink hose on it. Love the idea but not the execution.

It is what it is – The unit does what it is designed to do, I agree it is a bit hard to pull out for ladies. I had an issue with my unit ( it locked up) I have to say I was most impressed with the support I received from Holman's service people. First worked with me to try and sort out problem and fix, no joy. They hen arranged for a replacement. Great service not always seen these days. Thank you Holman. Show details ·  1

Lousy mounting to wall
Lousy mounting to wallNSW

Lousy – Falls off the wall lousy attachment method as the bracket does not line up properly the mounting brackets are not close enough and the weight of the reel too far apart

Not ideal for the reason you buy it – It is not as easy to pull out as described. I bought it for an old lady but it is too difficult for her to pull it out as the mechanised rewind feature gives a lot of resistance when you try to pull it out. It winds in too quickly too and that is hard to control so likely to cause the accident we were trying to avoid. It would be great if it wound both out and in. The hose itself is great and seems good quality and kink free as described.  Show details

Junk out of the box – Fitted the unit to a brick wall. Charged the battery. Pulled out the hose to about 20 metres and pressed the run button. Worked briefly and hasn’t since. Refund necessary. Show details

not worth the money – I brought a holman powered retractable hose reel because I was sick of rolling the old hose up by hand and hoping it would make life easyer know what it was going to cost but i was wrong the first one had a couple of screws missing which caused the casing to come apart took that back for a replacement the second one i charged the battery up went… Read more

to use it and that one had a faulty battery i rang the company they said i would have to wait till the end of the month which was at the time about 3 weeks for a replacement battery because they didnt have any in stock so i ended up taking the second one back for a full refund i would never recommend this product to anyone

Reel(y) good – Bought this to replace a Holman spring retract unit that is about 10 years old and the spring has failed. I like to think the motor will last longer than a spring, time will tell. It is physically smaller than the old unit(both 30M), which was a pleasant surprise. It is noisy, so I wouldn't recommend one if you are going to be running the hose in… Read more

and out early in the morning or late at night. My old one was mounted above head height to keep it out of the way, but this one must be mounted lower on the wall, as the control is in the top and needs to be accessible both for operation and charging of the battery. The battery/controller has to be removed to charge it, which is sensible as it means easier replacement if the battery fails. The mount/pivot is plastic, but appears more robust than the metal one that was on the last unit. It also wont rust. Edit: 6 months later and it is still going well. The hose its self is probably the best I have had to date, its quite flexible and mostly kink free. I like that Holman is Australian owned and makes many components here. I hope they are able to bring back more of their manufacturing to Aus.

Deceptive labeling – Bought from Bunnings because it was the only brand not labelled made in China , only to find out later that is was made in China. I would have paid substantially more for an Australian made product. Disappointed ! Show details

Too hard to pull out – Bought this to make it easier for my wife to use but it seems harder to pull out than the spring return ones. Hose kinks easier too. Should have stayed with what I had. Show details
