I got a good one no problems – I loved it until it died. I do wish it was still available. For the price you couldn’t go wrong. I loved my little oven I really did. Thank you.
Hell no – Don't waste your money. After 90mins food and bottom of bowl was cold. Light comes on light goes off over and over. Selected temp was over 200 degrees . It never cookd a garlic bread. I don't know how products like this are allowed especially when they say in book it's quicker than an oven. Show details
Disappointed – I was given this as a Christmas present and have only used it a handful of times and the writing for the temp and timer is coming off. I'm now unable to properly see the temperature or times. Great to use but difficult when you can't see temp or time to set them. Show details
Don't BUY! ELECTROCUTED ME! – Kmart returned my money and I'm in the process of claiming damages from Kmart as THIS OVEN ELECTROCUTED ME and I needed the paramedics to come to my house! Please don't buy this product as your life may be at risk due to being ELECTROCUTED. This product is DANGEROUS and a waste of money! Show details
I lovvveeee this! – This oven is amazing. Cooks food yo perfection and you can see what you are cooking from every angel. Also is great for my teenagers as they can easily operate it themselves. We did have the expensive version however I broke the glass basin so purchased this product. Cant tell the difference at all. Only downfall is - becareful when washing the glass basin as it gets very extremelly slippery. Show details
Cheap junk – I bought this from Kmart today. Came home and turned it on, bang went the light. Very strong electrical smell and the whole chamber filled with smoke. Will be returning it and going back to Archie martins for the $90 one that actually works very well. I’ve had three of them they all seem to last about two to three years. We use ours nearly every other day. So I reckon $90 isn’t that much of an expense for a product that works well. Show details
No Fan – Bought the model AOT - F901. The light works but no fan. Could be very very dangerous. Why do they not test them before selling them. Very sad. What a waste of time. Cheap price.....just junk. Come on Kmart you can do better than this. Stop wasting our time with this rubbish. Show details
A very useful and inexpensive cooking option – I have had two Halogen Ovens from Kmart Bought one 15 Sep 2012. It died early Oct 2015 Bought one 14 Oct 2015. It died 28 Nov 2017 I will be buying another this week. At $45, and lasting 2-3 years, it is only about $20 per year. I don't expect things to last forever these days. There is a similar one for $199, and it has a 3 year… Read more
warranty, but that would need to last 10 years to break even..
This unit saved me last Christmas when my main oven gave up the ghost on 24 Dec.
It is fantastic for many quick to cook things. A good cook book would be nice to come with it, or even an ebook!!
Not impressed – Bought it yesterday Oct 2017, went to use it next day and it would not heat up. I am returning it today $45 it cost, maybe you get what you pay for?? The light/element came on but it was cutting out all the time. Left the ribs in for 40 mins. The bottom rack of meat was cool to the touch. Disappointed.. Show details
Disappointed – I bought the Homemaker 12L Convection Oven in May 2016. In July 2017 it stopped working. It was an inexpensive purchase but I thought it should be able to last for longer than 14 months, just outside the 12 month warranty period. Now I am stuck with a non funcitonal product that is going to add to land fill. Show details
Great product – My Mum bought this for me despite my protests, but she was right. It is good! It heats up so much faster than an oven. You can't bake cookies/muffins/etc in it though because the trays don't fit. I love doing roast vegies in it after work. Just cut em up, season, throw them in. I'm glad Mum bought it for me :) She was right...it is good. Mums are always right! Show details
Solution to non working oven! – This is a fantastic oven, and better than any built in or freestanding oven I've used! Wish I could get round cupcake pans! I've made HEAPS of different meals, can be tricky to work out what temperature but you learn. I should take it camping with us, heater and oven in one :) Show details
The best thing in my kitchen – I bought a homemaker convection oven from Kmart in 2013 or 14 and failed to use it. I finally turned it on at the end of 2016 and have used it every day since (90 days going strong). This is such a phenomenal little machine, I've used it primarily for cooking vegetarian or vegan mock meat substitutes and the food tastes better than the real… Read more
thing. Cooks everything to perfection and would highly recommend to anyone wanting a convenient but sound, quality cooking device. At the price I purchase it for, it was an absolute steal!

If only they turned on – I have tried 2 both new yet neither have worked. I thought it may be voltage issue.......nope. Was very disappointed as I specifically bought it as I was travelling for work and had no way of cooking other than microwave. fantastic – Gee a friend gave me one & i love it. My food is cooked brown , golden ,juicy & crunchy .I looked on here to see how to clean it & i was amazed to find it $40. I am getting two more for friends. It will also be great for presents as well. Also for heating up food like pies & apple pies they all come out crunchy yummy yum yum.
Brilliant little cooker! – Well I bought one of these on the recommendation of a colleague of mine and can honestly say its the best thing i've bought for under $50 in a long time. Perfect for a two person household as we are. We cook all kinds of things in it and its never missed a beat. Our favourite thing to cook in it is a beef eye fillet on the low rack with potatoes… Read more
on top rack, comes out perfect!!
I suppose it took a bit of getting used to initially but once we had that down pat we were off and racing.
I would recommend this to any small household/single person because its seriously good. Our big oven only goes on now when we are entertaining friends.
Cheap and lives up to its price – Bought it a week and a half ago, we cooked in it 5 times and it has now almost died. The first few meals were very good, they cooked longer times than the book says that comes with it, almost double the stated time. Last time we used it had it on 250. Cooking chicken breasts and potatoes. After 2 hours the potatoes were still hard as rocks and the… Read more
chicken was pale and raw. I guess it isn't working anymore! Disappointed however I got what i paid for. Will buy a better brand and spend more money next time.
Perfect for a family roast. Good value – I bought this after my old and more expensive model burnt out it's top element. This one takes a little while to heat up; and, toasted grilled sandwiches take forever! However, it copes perfectly with a roast for a family of four. Highly recommend this product at this competitive price.
Great Buy – After an initial hick-up with a faulty Homemaker AOT F901, the new one works great. No problems at all, easy to operate and don't take up much space at all. Recommend this product. Value for money for sure! Heats up pizzas, does a great roast chicken and bakes a nice Salmon Cutlet to name a few!
Great value for money – I just bought this and cooked a roast chicken and vegies first up with no problems. Yes the light is bright, but halogen lights are bright so it's a rather irrelevant point to make in reviews. The halogen is the heat/cooking source. The "light" cutting in and out is the oven adjusting to the set temperature. Ie. it cuts in and out to maintain the… Read more
heat at whatever you have set it. It's a great compact product. Probably a bit big to live on the benchtop, but easy to fit in a standard cupboard and highly recommended for caravans too. It comes with an extender which expands the 12 litre oven to 17 litre capacity - for roasting big pieces of meat that take longer to cook. The lid, which has the halogen heating element gets very hot, but the unit also has a stand to place the lid on which is really easy to use. (Reviewers saying they are having trouble with the stand: Do you have it up the right way?). Now looking for recipes as the Manual and Recipes that come with it are not very extensive, but there are heaps of recipes on Pinterest. Very very happy with it and for the price of $39 you really can't go wrong. But if anything does ... it has a 12 month warranty.
Best Fast Cooking Ever. Honestly, I'm surprised it's so cheap – I've owned three of these. Not because they break, but because I love them so much I buy one each time some scumbags takes it or I have to FIFO around Australia. This appliance is so ridiculously cheap that I can't believe how good it is. My fiance loves take away. Gross fried chicken and pizza. This little pot of gold turns those leftovers… Read more
into better than the original. Halogen cooking is ridiculously good, quick and fun to watch. The bright light is hilarious. I tend to cook things that need a nice high temp. Anything that you would deep fry can be done instead in this. Crispy, crispy goodness. Flaky pastry is gold in here. It also has a clean function. Handy, very handy.
Pretty much any frozen goods turn into wondrous delights in this baby. It's very easy to get a little fat from all the soooo good and soooo bad food you'll make.
I've also made cakes and dehydrated meat and tuna for tuna floss.
Negs... okay. It's huge. I store mine on the counter top. It's a little cumbersome to pop the lid down... but a rack is supplied. The lid is annoying to clean. I just use a little orange oil on the inside of the glass. If it's not on the counter top you just wont use it. It's a little unattractive....I'm clutching at neg straws here.
I mean for like $40 you'd be a fool to hate this. I've seen $300 machines do exactly the same as this. Exactly. I like nice appliances and I'm no stranger to spending up to $2500 on them (my coffee machine). But, this is perfect at a ridiculously cheap price.
Blew up first ime turing it on – Set it up. Turned the temp on didn't get the timer to 1 min and it blew up. Not a good first start with the product

Very scary bright – I've just bought a new one and by reading your comments it has a halogen light which is EXTREMELY BRIGHT...like scary glowing bright..is this normal?
Great value for money, even if it was from K-Mart – This is our 5th Halogen style unit. Ever since seeing the MR T infomercial, I was keen on what this is capable of. Regrettably the 1st one kept shorting (bad design), the next 2 I dropped the glass bottom ($20-30 at Aldi), the 4th was some digital unit from Sam's Warehouse that died after 2 weeks. The current homemakers unit has an extension ring.… Read more · 1
It also has a rest for storing the top part. This is far more economical than using a standard oven. Turkey, Chicken & Pork were great on Christmas day. Just keep your receipt, because if there is an issue, you probably just received a lemon.
Great item – i live in a student accomadation where we have 2 kitchens unfortunately only 1 oven worked until last week now none do. i bought thi and ive been using it to cook chicken drumsticks. whole chickens. roasts and pork shoulders and they came out great :D. highly recomend this item. mine came with instructions purchased at kmart
Disappointing – I bought this product for my sister-in-law and together we tried it out for the weekend of my visit. We grilled chops, cooked a roast chicken dinner and made a cake. For everything, we had to increase the temperature to the maximum, and the length of time to nearly double. We also found the light going on and off all the time very difficult to… Read more
work near. I think I would have been better off to have put the $40 towards a better appliance. Not much, but it was light and we could see how things were cooking - or not.
love it – I asked for one for xmas as my cooktop has died and its the best thing i own in my kitchen. So good in fact I am going to buy another one. I have cooked roast turkey, Chicken, and pizza in it so far and i love it. the price is fantastic, its roomy, self cleaning, fast and portable. I highly recommend this product. Everything its hard to place the lid on the stand when the lid is hot Show reply
So far, so good – My Husband bought me this product as a Christmas gift, as I had been wanting one for quite a while. I've used it twice now, both for roasting. I cooked a chicken and then a rolled leg of pork. I followed the instructions in the booklet that came with it, and sure enough, my roast chicken was cooked to perfection and very succulent and tasty. … Read more · 1
When I cooked my pork, there were no instructions in the booklet for this, so I googled for a Flavorwave instruction on how to cook a pork loin roast. It was then easy. I did have to cook my pork for 10 mins longer than was instructed, but it was delicious, and the crackle was heavenly. Will definitely be using my Homemaker Convection Oven again and again. It was easy to clean, even without using the Thaw/Wash function (I forgot I could do this, and just waited for the bowl to cool and then washed it in the sink). I would recommend this product.
took mine back for refund – terrible. i have had 2 other ovens like this (different brands) previously. they worked really well.this brand is the only one i have seen where the light comes on and off all the time. it's irritating. also the oven didn't heat up enough to cook properly. took longer then usual to cook pastry items don't buy this brand
Dont bother – We have had constant problems with ours. It has only ever worked properly once and that was the first time we used it. The fan wont work, the element wont work and it only comes on when set at 250 which is just pointless will return or throw out. Piece of rubbish.
So far - an excellent product - definitely recommend – We have had ongoing problems with our Westinghouse Freestyle stove (thermostats failing and elements blowing every couple of years etc) and I was down to one working hotplate out of four. I spent ages perusing this site (i.e Product Review) reading everyone's reviews and trying to make a decision as to what brand of stove to buy next. While… Read more
researching I came across the reviews for the Homemaker convection oven. Given its price ($39.99) and the generally positive reviews of other people I thought - well at very least it would be a good interim appliance until we decide what model oven/stove to buy.
The verdict? We've owned this product for a month now - we've used it every day and I love this product so much that I'm not in any hurry to replace our stove now!!
So far I've managed to cook almost everything I used to cook in our regular Westinghouse - and most things come out even better than they did in my old stove. Even the family has noticed and commented - and they are even helping with the cooking as we try out different dishes in the Homemaker.
While you need to experiment a bit with times, cooking time is a little shorter in my experience - so if you normally leave something in the oven for 1/2 hour, the same thing will only take about 20-25 minutes in the Homemaker convection oven.
There are two racks - one is higher, the other lower - and both can be used simultaneously. I cook for 5 people regularly in it, and we usually don't need to fire up an additional appliance.
You use the top rack for things you want crispy - so far we've successfully cooked roast potatoes, baked pumpkin, pork crackle and chips - they've all come out scrumptious on the top rack. Roasts come out great on either rack - moister than in a regular oven; so do chicken breasts and steak. Pastries do best on the top rack if you like them crispy. We baked a cake on the bottom rack - in a regular round cake tin - it worked out fine. Veggies seem to work best if you wrap them in alfoil and put them on the bottom rack - hubby generally doesn't cook but he has has made cauliflower cheese on the bottom rack really successfully several times now. We've never had to add fat to brown anything so far - so instead of frying chops and sausages on the stove top we're watching the fat drip off them and collect in the bottom of the bowl - so it's probably a healthier way of cooking food too.
The only "disaster" we've had so far is cookies - my 12 year old son put them straight onto the top rack of the Homemaker and they dripped through down into the glass bowl at the bottom as they heated up - he should have put them on a tray or covered the rack with alfoil but I wasn't supervising at the time. Even so - cleanup was easy - the cookie mix wiped straight off the glass bowl - if he'd put the same cookies onto the rack in our Westinghouse oven, they would have dripped all over the bottom oven element and created smoke signals.
The other thing I really like about this mini-oven is the visibility - you can easily peer through and see how things are cooking - and then adjust the temperature, swap food over onto another rack etc.
The product is pretty easy to use - you put the food in, clip the handle of the lid down into place, set the temperature and timer and that's it. The light which does the cooking in the lid of the unit switches on and off as it reaches and maintains temperature - at first I thought there was something wrong with it, but soon realized it's normal. You can interrupt cooking (if you've put the timer on for too long) by simply taking the lid off. The product uses 1200W - hubby says that's less than a normal oven uses. It also comes with a 12 month warranty - which I think is pretty good value for something that costs less than $40.
Disadvantages? To help other people make an informed choice, if you're short on bench space the product does take up room - the unit is about 40 cm across you need to rest the lid on the rack provided near it when you take it off. It's also it's a little difficult to slide the lid into the rack until you get the hang of it. The lid is also a little heavy if you have weak wrists. You also need to choose which shape/size roasts you buy - they have to fit into the glass bowl - so no bigger than 25 cm in diameter and about 15 cm in height - so I guess if you do Sunday roasts for ten people regularly this unit might not suit you.
To me none of the above mentioned "disadvantages" are issues - but I'm pointing out things that might bother other people.
All up - this cooking appliance is one of the best products I've bought in years. I don't generally buy or rave about Homemaker products either - but this particular product is definitely an exception to the rule and I'm glad I made the purchase based on the other reviews on this site. Price - excellent value for money; does a better job than our regular stove, finding we're using it every day Suits our family of 5 - might not suit really large families.
for $39.99 this is really worth trying – Heard about these ovens through word of mouth from 2 other people who use one almost every other day and have barely used their regular ovens since buying one of these. The brand they had was Cookwell which they had purchased for $40-$50 (it looks like an identical model to the homemaker brand). It cooks the food by quickly circulating heated… Read more · 5
air around the food. It has a halogen(?)globe inside the lid that heats up when you turn the temperature dial on and a fan blows the heated air rapidly around the food. The globe turns on and off frequently to maintain a consistent temperature. Initially i was concerned for the power consumption of the halogen globe but 'apparently' it is very economical. If anyone has anymore info about if it is or isn't economical with electricity the feedback would be appreciated.
I liked the idea that they cook quicker than a normal oven, cook without adding oil (roast potatoes, chips, roast meat etc, without the oil) but the food still comes out crunchy and golden. Also was told it wont heat up the kitchen like the normal oven on a hot day so that was a big plus for me and it self cleans which of course is a big plus too.
I looked at a variety of similar looking items ranging from $50 - $250 and besides ranging from 11 -13 liter capacity i couldn't tell the difference between them and frankly was a bit confused about the whole range on the market.
I stumbled across the Homemaker brand at Kmart and it was $39.99 so i thought why not try it, honestly for that price if it didn't do what i thought it would, it wouldn't be the end of the world and i was really curious to try it. BTW to be honest i would never usually but the cheapest electrical 'anything' it's just that i wasn't really sure if this was something i really wanted or needed and didn't want to waste a whole lot of money on it. It came with the metal extension ring, low rack and high rack and a lid holder for somewhere to hold the hot lid (can't put a hot lid on the bench). Also came with an instruction book which is basic operational procedures and a couple of recipes, shows the functions and how to use them, it's not going to tell you everything you want to know but it tells you how to operate the oven for basic use and it was very helpful in that way.
So i have used it twice now and cooked golden, crunchy potatoes and baked pumpkin, at the same time, and i defrosted (has a defrost mode) and then baked pastry pies and they turned out flaky and golden. I have used the self cleaner mode each time too. Just put tiny amount of detergent and water to cover the racks (i turn the tall one upside down so i don't need to use much water to cover the racks) into the COOLED bowl and it makes a little tsunami in the bowl and heats the water to loosen any baked on food then you can rinse and wipe out the bowl. The lid part just needs a wipe and that's it.
Be aware that food must be placed so the air can circulate around it, so no overcrowding allowed. Also can cook casseroles etc but it needs to be in a casserole dish or pot and then you place that inside the glass bowl on the low rack so the air will circulate under and around the dish. You can't put liquids like casseroles or soups directly into the glass bowl, just treat it like you would an actual oven. Also can put baking trays etc onto the racks and some things you can put straight onto the racks to cook, as i did with the potatoes and pies. I guess you would just play around with it and get familiar with it to get the best results. Just see what works best for you.
I would so far recommend this although it is still a new novelty and i am getting used to using it. It does what it claims to do and i can't say anything bad about it. Not expensive. 12 month warranty. Easy to find (Kmart). Works like it says it will work. Self cleaning fuction, built in timer, defrosts, browns without added oil, cooks quicker that normal oven (but not sure it's really that much quicker. Potatoes took 45 mins but they were cut smallish, i might have had the temperature a bit low though). Clear glass bowl & can watch the food so it dosn't overcook or burn. Simple to operate. Defrost and self clean functions are really handy. Has an extention ring which allows the lid to sit higher and more food to fit in the bowl. The extention ring stores itself neatly around the glass bowl when it's not in use. The cord ist a bit short but wraps around the lid neatly when not in use. Can cook 2 layers of food as it has a high rack and low rack. Can cook anything a regular oven can cook but i think it's a personal perference thing and you will need to get used to shortened cooking times, the oven temperature (celcius) is supposed to be the same as your normal oven temperature or close to it. Dings when the timer stops and turns the unit off. Bowl is big and plenty of room for a big roast etc (wont fit large pizza base though). If food is not cooked when timer goes off you just put the timer on again and keep cooking until it's ready. The lid has a lock down handle that has to be down for the cooking to start, when you lift the handle the cooking stops and you can lift the lid to check the food.Put the handle back down and it resumes cooking. It comes with a stand to hold the lid as the lid gets really hot so you can't just put it down onto a surface. It's a little hard getting used to it at first but now it's automatic to put the lid in the holder, it's sort of like a cooking book holder and the lid just slots into it. Very large. Make sure you have room on the bench or somewhere to store it. The bowl is really big and a bit heavy. When i rinse it in the sink it is a bit tricky but it's only a quick water rinse and done so it's okay for me. I would probably think twice about it though for an elderly or frail person as it is heavy and when wet a bit slippery and awkward. Not 100% sure about energy consuption, praying that it's econommical. An energy star rating would be helpful. The lid was very fumy and smelly when we took it out of the box but the manual states that that is normal and to allow it to be used first without food in it to burn off the smell (just open the window or put the exhaust fan on when you do it).
