Body creaks, metal rattles metal tapping noises, exhaust rattling noise and internal plastic snapping noises – Purchased a brand new MY2020 model in 2021. Since brand new, have been experiencing all these weird and wonderful noises. Body creaks and metal rattles, exhaust rattling noise and internal plastic snapping noises. Service Department claim to not hear these noises. Wasn't able to test drive last year with a technician due to COVID restrictions. … Read more
Body creaks, metal rattles and metal tapping noises - especially if there is a rapid change in outdoor temperature from cold to hot, can also be heard when stationary at the traffic lights. Possibility of the chrome guard trims (front and rear) not secured to body properly, i can tap on the chrome trim lightly and it makes the same noise. The body panel directly underneath the left and and right very rear windows aren't held in tight enough to the body and can be lifted and pushed slightly to replicate the metal rattle.
Exhaust rattling noise - very noticeable after putting the car in "Park", turning the engine off and remain sitting in the vehicle. Coming from rear area. Never driven a car that did this.
Internal plastic snapping noises - very distinct plastic snapping noise from the top plastic sunglass holder trim area. I initially thought it was a coin being thrown at the windscreen (sounds the same), but further narrowing down the source of the noise, i can press on the side of the plastic sunglass holder trim and replicate the sound. It's like the plastic trim is warped as it is cheap quality plastic.
These issues are due to be addressed again by the dealership next week.
More to come.
Honda quality got bad – Bought brand new 2016 odyssey vti l when it first came out. Just after 40,000km resonator went bad, engine vibration is really bad at idle, especially with ac on. Stop start shakes the car really bad, Engine shuts off power few times when conering....never will i buy another honda Show details
Nice practical car for a family – Bought a brand new 2021 Odyssey ViLX7 after test driving from a dealer for 45 mins. I must say that they have improved the ride and handling of this 2021 model compared to the previous upgrade they did back in 2018 when ride comfort was pretty bad. The new look is far more better looking too than the previous face upgrade. Yes the old carry over… Read more
2.4 CVT engine could've been better, but I'm not a driver who is power hungry as this vehicle will only be driven around the suburbs, school pickups, grocery shopping, etc. After all this vehicle was purchased for it's practicality and it's smaller dimensions compared to the likes of Carnival, Granvia, Merc and VW, but still having enough space inside to seat our family of 7 comfortably. And out of all compared people movers, the Odyssey is the cheapest to buy brand new. Some new introduction of tech is pretty much useless like the hand gesture 'star wars' door. I would rather Honda Aus kept the curtain shades on the window as per previous upgrade. An extra storage between driver and front passenger would also be handy similar to what they have on the Asian market.
Overall this vehicle is a step up from us, as we had previously owned a 2007 Tarago, which we had for 11 years until the car was written off due to a minor accident. Toyota reliability at it's best. All other people movers in this segment are too expensive, long and wide compared to the Odyssey, which makes it hard on public parking spaces and garage taking too much space. Time will tell on the reliability of this 2021 model. Hopefully this can measure up to our beloved Tarago.
lovely family car with lots of issues – Had it since 2019, after first month found Little painting chipped like spiderweb on the car roof (just 1 month), service guy said that blamed on birds. Every year Running about 13000km, and did alignment every year, now is 28000km, 4 tyres totally worn out. Has to do a regular service every 6 month, twice a year cost around 800 dollars, which a… Read more
little annoying and too much for this price car. 350km driving range per tank is very short distance. Good side, no matter what my two kids love this minivan.
Engine oil leaking – I can't believe the 2015 Honda Odyssey Australia I bought from Sutton Homebush Sydney, The First....! sell guys are pretty bad serving customer, they don't care whether you buy or not, Second, being service the servicing centre people are sucks, the cost promised cap but still over charge, you need to advise them that was capped, There wasn't many… Read more
choice in 2015 as i need 8 seater, even the sell guy was bad i still need to make my decision, Now, the issue the engine oil is leaking I only driven 60,000km with this 5 years. I can tell the Honda car now was not as good as before. I swear i won't buy this brand again. Absolutely not reliable car anymore.
Good people mover but some shortfalls – Have the VTi-L of this car purchased 2018. Very decent car and good for families. Seating room is very generous and it’s easy to drive since the profile is very much manageable. Doesn’t feel like driving anything more than a large sedan. Engine power is decent albeit a little noisy. Not really powerful enough but decent for city driving. We… Read more
have the three rows up. Two child seats in the back means the middle seat is unusable.
Furthermore the boot space is severely limited with the back seats up. This is exacerbated if you have the car seat anchors because they cross the boot space and attach to the back. It means if you have two car seats, the anchor straps get in the way of using it for storage or carrying things. In most cases it’s marginally enough for grocery shopping but anything more means you have to give up one of the passenger seats.
Sliding doors are a nice feature on both sides. The middle row of seats are the best in the car and if you only use the middle row seats, you can push the seats back for massive leg room.
Good features: - keyless entry and start - automatic sliding doors - sedan feeling driving
For value the car has some glaring features missing.
Bad parts:
The centre command console does not support Apple CarPlay or android auto. Means if you are relying on the internal navigation, you have the deal with the clunky, slow, and confusing Honda system. It’s astounding that this feature couldn’t be added since the car has two USB connectors and other cars such as the civic is almost using the same console.
The car comes with automatic lights but does not have automatic rain sensors.
The car doesn’t have automatic locking.
The car fuel tank is rather small at about 55L or so.
Australian models don’t have the option for an automatic boot door so you’ll be dealing with having to lift the heavy boot door.
Not sure if other people movers suffer from this issue but clearance of the doors is an issue. You have to make sure you park far enough from the kerb or risk having the sliding doors open and scrap.
Seems the model desperately needs to be updated to the model found in the US markets with the redesigned cabin and larger engines.

Poor Fuel – Poor Fuel economy on the Current Honda Odyssey. Only 300kms per tank. Honda can’t seem to fix this so we might have to take this matter further. It certainly doesn’t match anywhere near the advise consumption advised by Honda and on the sticker on the car when bought. Has anyone else had Petrol Consumption issues? Show details

Disappointing Warranty and Customer Service – Very disappointed with Honda customer service and warranty (or lack of). I have a Honda Odyssey that I purchased brand new in 2015. This car had more issues than my previous cars, considering some were bought 2nd hand, that is saying a lot. Apart from the car quality, my main issue is Honda's warranty, or lack thereof, as the customer… Read more
representative I corresponded with, merely dismissed what a normal car owner would have expected to be covered by the warranty. In my recent servicing, Honda has claimed that the following items (a) warped rotors (b) defective washer nozzle, are considered normal wear and tear so won't be covered by warranty. The car is driven just 10000 km a year and in normal conditions. I never encountered in my more than 25 years of driving these type of issues, yet encountered it in this Honda Odyssey.
Perfect family car – Absolutely the best family car (with young kids) for many reasons. I have 2 car seats for my kids and i love that i can slightly recline the seats for when they fall asleep so their head isn't resting on their knees. The far back seat folds completely back which is so handy to change kids' nappies. The standard model comes with all the extras like… Read more
sunroof, leather seats, folding side mirrors, window shades and more. The only negative is that the boot isnt automatic and its quite large so it's always a bit of an effort to close it, but even with that minor discomfort i still give it 5 stars. I bought this car brand new in 2015 and have had no issues with it
Very disappointing electronics/console – I accidentally left my key and fob in the garage, used push button start and drove to my destination 20 minutes from home with no audio or digital alert from the car. Had to taxi home to get the key! Also the Bluetooth is dysfunctional and the maps is not user friendly. Thermometer is often several degrees incorrect. All are consistent with the… Read more

Problems I have faced with my Honda odyssey - and my frustrations with the level of customer service – I am having troubles with my car and would like to find out if anyone has had a similar issue and can offer any advice. I purchased a new Honda Odyssey VTI-L model in 2016 and was rather impressed by the electrics and features within the car. However, 6 months into the journey, I begun having issues with my radio / display unit. The unit would… Read more
reset itself intermittently, and every time it did so it would wipe out anything stored on it, reset the radio and also lose bluetooth and radio while it resets.
I reported the problem to the dealer who changed the unit, but the problem reoccured again.
This time, I raised a concern with Honda, and have been going to and fro on this matter.
On Honda's advice, the dealer also changed a few electrics behind the unit, and ran the car for a couple of days and then returned it to me stating all is fixed.
After a couple of days, the problem again reoccured. I contacted Honda australia and advise them of the situation.
Honda, now tells me that given the issue has not occurred in the presence of their technician there is nothing more that can be done and the dealer will monitor the issue until it can be reproduced.
Given the problem is intermittent, I don't believe this is going to be an easy task. Also, since both the unit and the electrics behind have been changed, and the problem still persists, I am beginning to think that there is a fault with the car.
Has anyone had a similar problem and how have you approached resolving the issue.
I am not really happy with the level of service offered by Honda australia, although the dealer has been pleasant and tried to do everything they could.
Given this car is still under warranty, I was expecting Honda to at least take the car and put it through a number of tests to stress the car out and see if the problem can be reproduced. But, this is not happening.
If you have experienced a similar issue please comment and let me know how I could approach this.
I am thinking of taking it to consumer affairs but want to know whether i should go further.
Great car for work and family – We purchased this car to use for both family and work. With the rear seats folding flat in the back, it gives a very large space to use for transporting work materials. It also works with a mattress so our two small kids sleep there when travelling. The automatic door is wonderful, making school drop off and pick up super easy from the kiss and ride zone. Show details
Great family car! – I had purchased this car to accommodate my growing family and have been very pleased with the overall performance. Perfect car for my family (with 2 young kids) – Mine is the VTI-L model. I love this car so much as it has the sliding doors and the bird eye camera for easy parking. I do not have to worry about my kids opening the door and damaging other people's car. Very fuel efficient although it does not have much power. It is very spacey inside and you can fold down the very back seat for more boot space Show details
Car is ok. Had power window issues since day 1 – Car is ok. However I had power window issue since day 1. Honda acknowledge the issue however it took them 2 years to apply a workaround to the issue and countless number of time I had to bring the car back to Scotts Honda. In the end I had to settle for no car tint. Would I buy again from Scotts Honda. Definitely NO! Show details
ODYSSEY - Room for improvement – Well i have driven a current model Odyssey for 100,000km's now. Here is what i liked about it. Comfortable in the front seats, well set out dash and nicely finished off with trim and fabric. Drives well and performance for a small engine is good. No major breakdowns - but it does have a few annoying faults. The car developed a ticking noise in… Read more
the engine especially noticeable on start up. It is quite bad now but doesnt affect its performance. Dealer in Essendon Fields has failed to fix it despite it being drawn to their attention. UNCOMFORTABLE in the back, hint - dont expect people in the back to stay silent when you drive over bumps and railway lines! This is some Honda need to sort. My other family car is a 2013 Kia Carnival ( not current model) and its way more comfortable for passengers. Squeak in right rear window is also very annoying.
Otherwise its been a good car but lets face it guys, you dont buy an Odyssey as a drivers car its a people mover and meant to have poeple in the back so step up the R&D! Hopefully mext model will be better.
Good people mover, – we shopped around for a 7 seater, and chose the odyssey, I'll list the pro's and cons Pro's 1. Slide automatica doors are brilliant, by far best feature of the car 2. Centre isle only with luxury model, again the fact I don't have to fold seats down to get in the back is great 3. Only boot that fit our pram! Yes! Believe it or not no 4WD… Read more
fit a pram if the third row was in use!!
4. Price, it's definitely bang for buck!
Con's
1. The engine and drive line is rubbish! Feels like a Honda mower, cannot go over any speed jump with any sort of speed
2. The touch display is actually stupid and dangourous, while diving u need to feel for buttons not look for buttons!!
3. The dash board is also a dust collector
4. Fuel economy is rubbish for that engine size
Perfect for families – Bought a volvo initially but sold off to exchange for a honda Odyssey due to the spacious interior. Needed a big 7 seater. Family visited over the winter and managed to fit everyone into one car comfortably. All adult size seats w full legroom. Centre row captain seats are amazingly comfortable. Chassis about low though. Have to show down qt abit when going over hump or dip. Show details
Best option for growing family – Easy to drive with amazing 360degree camera making it so easy to park. The two middle seats are fantastic for long journeys and have the option to fold down flat. trying to get in with little ones. Going from a small car I was really tentative to get something so big, but this car is just so easy I would never look back!
This is perfect for family – Drive very smooth as silk. Few things missing like just provide power park brake button instead of lag park paddle, missing car boot door auto shutdown. Running cost is not bad as considering big car. Approx 9L per 100 kms. Over all very nice car. very happy, value for money too. Show details
Everything you want in style – Absolutely LOVE our odyssey. I cannot believe I did not discover minivans earlier! The selling point for me was the electric sliding rear doors and 4cyl engine. For us the car is to be used around the city, so why would I need the v6 which just costs more in petrol?? The space inside is amazing, my children are not yelling directly behind me anymore Show details
Fantastic family car – We bought my Honda Odyssey VTiL in May 2015 brand new. We have 3 car seats installed for our small children. The auto sliding doors are so convenient - no worrying about narrow parks, hitting other car doors & I can open them when my hands are full. The seats are so easy to move and configure which makes accessing the rear seats ( where we… Read more
have 2 of our car seats) simple and also allows adults to move around the back comfortably. The captains chairs are very comfortable. We chose the VTiL because of the captains seating.
The car drives well, it doesn't have a lot of guts but when your average speed is 31km an hour that doesn't really matter. The 360% cameras are a life saver & make getting into tight spaces easy.
As far as "mini vans" go - this is the most stylish. The interior is gorgeous & the technology is awesome.
The boot space is deceptively large as the space goes under the back seats & I can comfortably fit a pram and a $200 shop in there. If you have car seats in the back the anchor straps do encroach on the boot space & it would be good if they could make these points isofix like the captains chair seats. The rear seats are easy to fold down if you need more space & there is always enough space in the back for bags on the floor etc.
After 12 months the car hasn't had a single problem & still looks and runs like new. I get about 500km to a tank give or take. This is a fantastic family car & I would definitely buy again. The VTiL is worth the extra money for the added features too.

Not Bad for People carrier like this – I bought my Odyssey VTi December 2015, test drive to Sydney from Canberra 1 full tank return. Sliding door great for narrow parking, fuel excellent highway thirsty in urban, touch screen sometimes not responsive, need to keep pressing. Engine quiet so far. Speaker sound out put great, very spacious, 8 seaters & still more space for luggage. Show details
We love it! - and, I have even have learned to love its few astonishing design flaws – What a great family car 5/5. Yes, it has sliding doors like a van, might even look like a van to some, but it drives and behaves like a car with the benefits of a van based people mover. It has many brilliant features that make life in peoplemoveralia (if there is such a place) wonderful. My injured back is getting better because I can get 20kgs… Read more · 1
of sleeping kid in/out of the car really easily.
So what about those design flaws?
I'll start with a small one - the electric seat position motor (front seats) is way too slow. My wife is not tall and I am above average, so she winds it right forward and I right back. If I need to jump in and go somewhere, I have to hold the seat switch and wait for an eternity before I can get into the car - that sucks especially if it is raining or I'm really in a hurry.
The GPS/Moving map requires a smartphone. OK in theory, but not well implemented or supported by Honda. In my case every time Apple updates iOS(iPhone) the Honda app stops working. For the first 12 months it was basically unusable until Honda finally updated it with a version that worked properly ....nuff said.
USB ports/cables attach directly above the centre drink holders. I spend my life untangling these from the drink holders, or I need to replace cables that have been bashed flat under a drink bottle. Honda could have provided a cable loop or channel to hold them up and away - but didn't....
The most insane are the new sliding doors! If someone manages to put an oversized or odd-shaped drink container or something else in the cup holder in the sliding door, it can jam/scratch the paint when the door is opened...why would you put a cup holder in a door panel that is going to slide along the side of a car?
I can live with the disappointment of knowing Honda didn't quite finish the design work because everything else is great. If they install a V6 (or bring out the Hybrid/4wd version available in Japan) it will even be better and I might update to the new model. I might do that anyway if and when....
Having said all that, I thoroughly recommend it.
Don't have an accident in Odyssey VTi - L – Very nice vehicle. 2500km with driver and 5 passengers not a problem until.......Had a run in with a roo north of Perth. So, if you think you MAY have an accident DON'T buy a Honda Odyssey
2014 Honda Odyssey only one remote key and one service key – This is very inconvenience that has only one remote key and have to share between partner. We also very disappointed to know to add an extra key have to pay $400 plus on this $43K drive away car.
2014 VTI Honda Odyssey – Great car, the sliding doors makes it so much easier for kids to jump in and out. Fantastic interior compared to 80's style interior of its competitors. share your remote key with your partner !
If you don't like sharing you can use service key but have to manually key locks to lock / unlock car.
If you don't like that then additional key will cost $400 +.
For a car that cost $43 K drive away, this is totally unacceptable.
Don't believe me, contact Honda Australia 1800 804 954 and check for yourself.
Not sure the reason why they have gone down this path but will look with interest if the choose to do it on all their future models ! Well finished inside, Very roomy 3rd row even for adults, Smooth and quiet on the road. VTI model only comes with X 1 remote key.
