HSBC Platinum

Truly an awful experience. The application process is clunky and agonising - designed without a thouth for the customer. Gets worse when you finally activate the card. The HSBC website looks as it it was designed the morning after the office Xmas party and the IT dept. vomitted up teh content. Zero points for customer service and voice of the customer. If this is the best they can do then the big 4 must be "laughing all the way to the bank" Show details
I have been a long time user, and enjoy the points. However in the past week I have been unable to use my card to pay a deposit to the Vietnamese office for a trip offered by a reputable company with its registered office in UK. After many calls, the excuse is that it's Visa, not HSBC. This has been refuted by the company. Not happy. Show details
FRUSTRATION, TERRIBLE APPLICATION PROCESS – TERRIBLE SERVICE ONLINE. WASTE MY TIME! They kept requesting for documents, I have to call them to have an update, never received an email or call to let me know about my application. Even the workers on the phone didnt seem to know how to help and struggle to speak English. Horrible service. I dont have other words than FRUSTRATION. Such a big bank, but I would never expect to have such a juniors people to talk to over the entire process.

Free Lounge Access as advertised – I got the HSBC Platinum just for the 2x lounge access. It's $0 annual fee first year which is awesome. I was able to use it to access the Al Maha Lounge in Doha on my flight out and on my return. Just mention you're using LoungeKey and the card is initially charged for ~AU$65 or thereabouts. This pending charge will be reversed, but it does take… Read more
several days (maybe even a week, I can't recall) for this to happen, so don't panic. There were no foreign transaction charges for me. One thing to note is that there are no notifications that your LoungeKey access has been granted (HSBC automatically sends the request to LoungeKey and they should process it within a month or something), and it was difficult to find the right people to call to double check. In the end, I just had to trust that it would work. So just apply for the card a couple months before your travels to allow for the processing time.
Club lounge access not everywhere – I opened an account with HSBC in Perth and obtained a Platinum CC at the same time. I had other platinum cards. I have never gained entry to a Club lounge by using a CC as we always fly Business class and it is included. We were in Singapore and heading for Cambodia, there was no business section on the flight. My wife and I attended at club… Read more
lounges and attempted to use HSBC platinum CC and was in formed entry on card only if it was issued in Hong Kong. Move on, as result of that embarrassment I immediately cancelled the card. I still have a HSBC account but in general drifted to use other bank accounts. I have not since needed to enter a club lounge with a Platinum CC. Be warned if you are travelling economy and are planning to use a club lounge pre check that your card is an acceptable entry card at that airport.
Simple but hits the mark – In a time where the 'value' of most reward cards seems almost non existent but the fees are very real - I stumbled across this rough diamond. As long as you spend over $6000 in a year there is no annual fee and the rewards program seems to give me about $150 - $200 per year that I can redeem as credit against my credit card. Add in some free… Read more
passes to airport lounges and complimentary insurance and well I have to say this card is a keeper! If your tired of shopping around every 12 months when the initial join bonuses on your credit card expire then this is the 'keeper' card for you!

HSBC Platinum Credit Card needs System Tweak – The HSBC Platinum Credit Card is generally fine, but if your card malfunctions and you request a replacement, they cancel the old one right away, leaving you without a card until the new one arrives. It’s puzzling why they can’t let you keep using the old card until the new one is activated.
Terrible customer service, avoid at all cost! – After receiving my Platinum CC with a 10000$ Credit limit, I reduced it online to $6000 for security reasons. A month later I wanted to book international flights and tried online to increase limit back to $10000. Incising limit online did not work. I had to refill the form (provided same details as original application) and credit increase was… Read more
denied. I called HSBC but the call center staff unable to provide reasons (offered to reapply in 3month time!). If I had been advised prior to reducing limit I had to re-apply to re-instate the original CC limit, I would not have reduced the limit. As a result, I missed out on a better airfare costing me money. I have now moved all my business to ANZ. Great job [Name Removed], Head of Wealth and Personal Banking, HSBC Bank Australia Limited for properly annoying and loosing customers! Never again.
Time to Cancel – I took out a Platinum Credit Card through HSBC. With the credit card you are entitled to free access to the flight lounge at the Brisbane Airport. We attended the lounge and presented the card (as per the guide on HSBC web site). We were not told anything different by the front counter people at the lounge, but later found out that not only had we… Read more
been charged $136 but also an overseas transaction charge. I messaged HSBC and then emailed customer service, without any response from either to dispute the transaction. With this level of service from a Credit Card provider, I am now having to take the mater to the Ombudsman. This credit card is fine when things go well but it is when there is an issue and you need to resolve quickly, you are let down like a rock. Avoid this provider at all costs.

Shocking service – I do a lot of overseas travelling and use my credit card for just about everything from accommodation, fuel and meals. I have had a HSBC Platinum Credit Card for years and every time I go over seas I end up having it cancelled. My most recent trip to Ireland turned into a nightmare when HSBC cancelled my card which also resulted in all my pre… Read more
booked accommodation being cancelled too. When I tried to get in contact with HSBC while in Ireland I spent almost 1.5hrs on the phone on hold before I gave up. When I returned to Australia I contacted HSBC to find out what was going on. They advised me they had cancelled my card due to a suspicious transaction. It is worth pointing out that the transaction was completed by me and that prior to departing Australia I had advised HSBC of my trip abroad including dates I would be away. Given that this had occurred at least 4-5 times I also lodged a complaint with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA). After having had HSBC contact me and advising them personally what had occurred and having been advised that my telephone conversation was being recorded they sent me an explanation which went to great lengths to tell me HSBC were not to blame. Their explanation also included several incorrect facts despite my conversation being so-called "recorded". Put simply HSBC told lies about what I had told them to appear to be doing the right thing. I have finally gotten a new credit card which is not HSBC. I will keep my old card but will only ever use it as a last resort. My suggestion is that if you travel and use a credit card make sure it's not HSBC unless you wish to submit yourself to a lot of grief. I do recommend however that if you do use a credit card abroad that you advise your bank of the dates you are travelling and where. Regards Barrie
Worst application process – Application and processing team is a total nightmare to deal with. Received multiple repeated email asking for verification which i have already completed then got another same email from different department asking for same verification process. Got declined in the end with no valid reason wasted time and all the trouble uploading personal document.
Just abysmal processes & communications – Just abysmal processes and communications with no considerations for attracting new customers. Applied for a credit card & sent all the requested docs. Get a phone call the next day asking me to send more docs to an email address - why can't they send a message for me to reply to?? Get a phone call the next day asking me to send more documents.… Read more
Clearly they cant send emails to customers & they cant explain all their requirements. Multiple documents sent & multiple questions to this email address go un-answered. Get an SMS advising "your application has been approved". No other info is provided. I call them yet again & am told the approved amount is $10k less than what i applied for. I ask to escalate my enquiry & they tell me "all the managers are in a meeting & too busy to talk". Too busy to talk to a new customer? Asked to cancel the credit card & am told i have to call the other Contact Centre to cancel.
Dont waste your time with these idiots as they clearly will do everything to waste your time & they dont care about attracting new customers. Processes are time consuming & duplicated. They will do nothing to help you
Worst credit card experience I have ever had. If i could give zero I would – I applied for a credit card and received and automatic conditional approval email. A few hours later I receive an email with a notification my application has been declined. I called the contact centre for clarification and they advised it was due to their internal lending policy. Why sent the automatic conditional approval!!??? I have a 6 figure… Read more
income, more than half of it disposable each month and enough in savings to repay the credit card 10 times over!! Absolutely horrendous bank with zero appetite for customers.

Time waste and a hit on your credit score – Asked for more documents that my bank asked me for a home loan. Regular phone calls from overseas asking random questions about my application. Non-existing customer care. Painful process, not worth the effort. Should be avoided at all costs. Looks like they want customers with bad credit history who delay payments and pay interest rate on their purchases. Show details
All Smoke and Mirrors – Was approved for a Platinum Card but their customer service is horrible. After waiting for almost 30-40 minutes *every* single time you need to call them, the call will either disconnect OR you'll pull the short straw and get an support agent that knows nothing but to put you on hold while they search for simple answers. All I'm trying to do is a… Read more
simple balance transfer from another bank, but this is proving to be one of the simplest (hardest) things I've ever seen a mainstream bank attempt to do.
Once I've paid out my balance transfer on their very appealing *but now empty* 36 month interest-free promotional offer, I'm closing the account and never looking back.
What’s worse? The whole reason we chose the platinum product over their competition was the complimentary travel insurance. They never told us that we needed to pay for the flight with the card for it to take effect. This is an incredibly unethical practice given we specifically mentioned to their customer service over the phone that we wanted the card for that reason.
Painful and prepare to take a hit on your credit rating – Applied for a new HSBC platinum CC and got rejected even though I had a HSBC platinum CC an year ago.No change in circumstances and had an excellent credit rating. Was told to ring them and told that due to internal policy card has been denied. HSBC doesn't want people who pay on time or has excellent credit rating. Show details
Worst bank ever – I had a visa with HSBC for 16 years and they requested I give them my current salary and provide copies of my identity, signed by a JP. I went through this hassle, sent them the documents. But they lost them. Probably will have identity theft soon. There was no basis for even requiring this information when we were paying off the credit every… Read more
month in full. The said they would look for them, but instead I get an email saying my visa has been cancelled. I am wondering if they use such methods to drop account holders that for long time pay no interest. They just want customers that fail to pay off the card at the end of the month.
Will not honor Frequent Flyers, Tried to make me change to Qantas Platinum VISA card – Tried to transfer my rewards points to Virgin Frequent flyer points but they advised they do not have a frequent flyer program anymore. my points for gift cards or I could transfer to their Qantas Frequent Flyer VISA card which would mean a new credit card application and the points I currently have (more than 400K points) cannot be transferred. Asked to speak to a supervisor about this issue as I was not happy they did not advise me. Another lady came on line and asked her to confirm when I was notified. She told me I was either notified by email or letter. I asked her to check for me. She came back and said she is unable to check at the moment and that she would ask the lady that I previously spoke to. I advised her the reason I wanted to speak to a supervisor is because she could not accurately answer my questions and that I was even more concerned because as the supervisor I would expect an accurate answer. She advised she is not a supervisor but from the complaints department. Lodged a complaint about this and was told it would take more than a month for someone to get back to me. In reading the terms and conditions, they are meant to advertise this change in the credit card conditions in a newspaper. I asked her that I would also like to be advised when they advertised this change in the card and what paper they put it in Not good for any frequent flyer program.
Disrespectful..never will apply again..cancelled my application – disrespectful services, they just asked me documents after document calling multiple times, using authoritative tones when requesting and you feel like enslaved and belittled, oh my goodness thankfully I cancelled my application -even will affect my creditscore- for their so called platinum card and will never deal with this bank again.. this 100… Read more

A Great card from 1970's bank – It was the fastest application process and card delivered in my credit card experience. No fee with 6K spending and two free airport lounge accesses ( worth about $80 and the right to enter the lounges on you cost after two free visits) were very important to me. Chat to human through the website is a lot better than waiting on phone queue or chat… Read more
to AI. Good rewards too. The downsides are the Website and App are very classic. And HSBC don't support direct feed to accounting program for personal finance management. It was hard to believe they can't link credit card to access other HSBC everyday account from HSBC ATM so need to carry two cards. A Great card from 1970's bank.
Terrible new application experience - absolute bottom tier service – If I can go back 18 days, I would correct my mistake and stay away from HSBC. Their process is flawed from end to end. I second some of the other comments in this review that the application process is terrible experience. There are flaws - human as well as in banking system, throughout the process, up until the balance transfer. BT issue yet is… Read more
yet not resolved. Multiple requests for exact same documentation, as well as duplicate emails throughout the process. Also, they somehow have multiple application in their system - they can't cancel it until it see's it natural end. For a financial institution to handle credit related process so poorly, speaks loudly about their poor attitude. After my 18 days of constantly talking to them, I know they have outsourced everything overseas. The local HSBC branch would not help as they have no control over outsourced process. Stay away, a bank with employees that does not understand finance stakes, timing, banking processes or customer service obligations is not work partnering with.
Great reward if you spent enough in a year – If you spend over $6000 a year - you will receive 2 free visits to airport lounges per year, plus no annual fee! It's an absolutely rewarding credit card if you travel at least once a year to redeem this reward. I am very satisfied with the deal that comes with this credit card. Show details

Annual Fee. Messy Points Processes – When I first applied I thought there was no annual fee. I found out there was during the application but decided to proceed anyway. The points processes seem very messy. You really need to follow all of their rules carefully and keep your own records so they don't expire. Not really happy with this card. Show details
Applying for this card was one of the hardest things I ever had to do – Bad recommended I take out a credit card to manage my finances. Online form was short but then nothing happened. A month later they wrote to me saying my application was incomplete and I had to resubmit. I did but still nothing happened. Finally someone phoned me and they asked heaps of questions - why if I am an existing customer!? I'm not even sure it's a good deal card so I rarely use it as I don't trust the whole process or bank. Great fee free card with basic perks – Got the VISA Platinum fee free a few years ago, have stuck with it due to VISA branding and rewards points system. Redemption of points to rewards seems rather unfair (ie. $5000 spend for a $25 reward). Fees are a little high, particularly overseas charges. Overall, versatile card, good interest free period (59 days), no fee with points earn (despite inequitable rewards earning system) is nice for low income earners or students.
Moderate no annual fee credit card – Just a less moderate visa credit card, i was told the non annual fee version card is no longer available to get, so all new applicant needs to pay annual fee. However, no matter what to me this card just for a spare and definitely not my primary. It also limited where you can get points (avoid all government charges payment, you get nothing) and… Read more
the point system is not great too and worst of all, the point will get expired (from personal experience, i lost over 10k points without knowing them since i did not carefully read T&C when signed on). It comes with complimentary travel insurance (probably this is the best of all the reason why i chose this card) otherwise i would have given this card just barely 1 star. Sorry, this card just not live up to my expectation. So many good cards out there, and I would rather to use card that accumulate Qantas/Velocity points. Last but not least, most of their perks offer only to be used in Hong Kong. Unfortunately we aren't living there.
Not bad, don't like their online portal – I had this card from Ikea October 2017 till I closed it less than a year later. I got 12 months interest free on Ikea furniture. To my suprise they gave me a $8000 limit. Logging in online seems a bit complicated as it uses your email instead of your debit card numbers etc. I kinda forgot signing up with my email and most banks don't do this so I… Read more
wasted a lot of other login attempts. But I called them up and they resolved this, their phone team is not too bad. Although a couple times I got disconnected with them and this caused some frustration. I would always give my mobile right away in case such an event happened. I closed this card since to avoid the annual fee of $69 I believe.
No Annual fee, good List rewards option – Rewards program has a good list of redemption options, though they seem to increased the number of points to redeem each option and it takes a few weeks to get each reward. Earning points is easy enough with most transactions counted as 1 point per dollar. Show details

Good for balance transfer – I got this credit card on a zero anual fee promotion. I have an Amex as well but the HSBC visa card, unlike the Amex, can be used anywhere. Also, extended warranty and international travel insurances are nice to have. Show details
Best credit card ever – Firstly I’ve been a HSBC customer for over 10 years, I was overseas for 14 years and the HSBC credit card was the best in support, I always use it overseas without any issues. have many automatic payments through this credit card. To give an accurate picture we redeem $50 Coles/ Woolworths gift cards easily almost a month with no annual charges and can expand repayments to 60 days interest free. You will have your own premier customer representative which you can solve anything with, I highly recommend the HSBC premier/ platinum credit card.
Good Credit card features – The card offers good features with no additional cast as the annual fee is refundable once user spent 6k a year. cons I can think of is the app on the phone and on the website, the company needs to have a second thought for improvement.
Worst Bank out there, beware – Wanted to balance transfer from another institution and their 0% rate lured me in. Upon being approved they asked for some additional documents. Fine. address is also included on all payslips. Sent them that too (the top portion of statement showing address. They rang again this time asking for the statement for proof of deposit of salary. Still complied and sent them the statement with salary deposits showing and rest blanked out. They rang me insisting they want to see every transaction. Completely unreasonable. Withdrew application. Such a painful process. Why not explain what you need from the beginning? So hard to communicate with all of them too very poor English by all of them on each phone call so frustrating. Local bank my a$&@ Never again.
Great credit card, poor app – Great credit card considering you can usually get a fee waiver and you will get a good points ratio plus interest fee periods. The android app is one of the poorest banking apps out there. If an app is important, this may not be the card to you. Show details
No fees but still points, accepted most places – No troubles with this card, there's still solid rewards but I have not earned many points. No fees, and accepted at more places than my Amex card. Would recommend it for easy no hassle card.
