Excellent phone and still going – In September 2014 I was hesitant to buy this brand and was more focused on the price and value for a contract of 2 years with Vodafone. I just had a issue with the WIFI but as the phone was under warranty, it was replaced by a new one in February 2015...since then, I have had this phone without any issues. Good screen size, fast and easy to… Read more

This was an awesome Phone – I was tossing up between the Sony, Samsung and the HTC at the time. They all had very similar specifications. The HTC was on the bottom of the list, mostly because of the colour scheme (White and Silver) which I didn't dig. But when I actually picked up the display one and used it, I was blown away by the sound. It was so much louder and clearer… Read more

One of the most iconic Android phones ever made – One of the most iconic Android phones ever made. Design so loved, even Apple used it for inspiration for future designs. Camera performance was average compared to Samsung and LG at the time. Strengths we're the Sense version of Android. Which was smooth as stock Android. Was ok – I liked the phone but had its faults in terms of the bad battery life and storage however it was a phone I could use for everyday use for the 2 years I used it with the functions of the phone suiting my needs. The phone has its good and bad points and I cant complain too much  Show details

Apart from the camera, this phone is perfect – My M7 has the firmware defect which makes the camera a strong magenta colour in pretty-much all circumstances, and although this is RMA-worthy (they were willing to replace the phone as long as it was still in warranty), I wasn't aware of this until after the phone warranty had already lapsed. Apart from that, the build quality is exceptional… Read more

(I'm rough with my devices but the screen has been fine), and I'm still using the phone after 3.5 years (the longest I've had a smart phone) - although I will replace it soon.

Great price, great value phone.

Good for the price – This phone lasted me about two to two and a half years. I personally take a lot of photos, which wasn't very handy considering I only had the 32GB model. Once the phone had less storage space available, it started becoming a lot slower and quite laggy. The camera itself I feel could have been a lot better. The phone itself, however, was durable, sleek and the user interface was clean and easy to use.  Show details

I love my phone – I love my HTC phone. I have it now for more than 3 years and it still works very well. Although its speed is now a little an issue because of course, it is old for a smartphone, but I can not bring myself to buy a new one because I am really happy with its work and options and even its small organising features. Its battery life is also good.  Show details

HTC with a touch of Pink – Firstly had this phone for over three years but some time ago the camera went from reasonable to rubbish with the pink tint issue. Have had no other issues with this phone and overall has been very reliable however will not buy another HTC product on this basis with the camera failure issue when replacing this phone.  Show details

No after sales service at all, No connection to the network – It has no after sales service in Australia becouse when I contacted HTC they said we don't repair just take it to the retail shop u bought it from. Reliable and good battery life – I had been using it for 18 months before handing this over to a friend and upgrading to the m8. During this time it was reliable and felt good in my hand. The battery life was better than any other HTC i owned. My friend has had the phone for 8 months now and has no issues with it. The phone still works smoothly and is still receiving os updates, but i am not sure for much longer.

Probably the best phone out there – Unlike the other reviewers, I haven't experienced any technical glitches. I've had my phone now for almost 2 years and I love it. Always seem to be a problem – The htc one is a great phone don't get me wrong, but there always seems, to be a massive problem! Great phone just unreliable – After switching to android after owning 2 iPhones (which lasted over 4 years each), I was initially very happy with all aspects of this phone. A great phone let down by poor hardware reliability – I really like my HTC One, feels good, looks good, great screen and speakers, pretty fast, Sense is a bit average but you can change launchers for that problem. Battery life is average at best, but as long as you charge it before going to bed, you'll be fine. paper specs belie its true performance. It takes great low light photos, much better than any other phone I've used, plus daytime photos are also great - very little noise, good detail and excellent autofocus. Beautiful build quality and design also - I absolutely love the metal chassis, feels great in the hand and looks lovely, like a solid, expensive ingot of industrial design.

Unfortunately, this will be my first and last HTC, as I have experienced so many hardware issues that I cannot in good faith recommend this device.

First phone had lots of dead pixels, took a bit of hassle to get it replaced. Now, the replacement has lost connectivity to the data network, heats up and drains the battery quickly, despite a full factory reset back to stock settings. Sent away for replacement, came back with the same issue. Sent away again, hoping they get their act together and fix it - no luck, sent away a third time with the same problem. Multiple hardware failures like this are pretty uncommon, and I have never experienced this from other manufacturers. Failures like this and many others seem to be a common occurrence with HTC products if you do a cursory search around the internet.

The phone has never been dropped, exposed to water, - treated very sympathetically for all of its life, always in a case etc, because I really can't afford to buy a new $700 phone every year!

Really, if it were reliable, this would be a 4.5 star phone, but what use is a beautiful, advanced piece of hardware if it fails repeatedly for no discernible reason? Sorry HTC, you're 90% there, you just need to fix your hardware reliability!

And by the way, I tried to post this exact review on the Australian HTC website, but they rejected it on the grounds that it 'breached their review guidelines'. Apparently it's against their review guidelines to post anything less than a glowing review of their products...

I can live without it – I have been around since the start of Mobile Phone technology. My first experience with a mobile phone was in 1987 with a brick attached to a large suitcase so, it actually took me a long time to change from the old mobleys to a Smartphone so the HTC One was my first. I lost my phoneginity to HTC :) I researched phones thoroughly before making my… Read more

decision against tough competition as all my friends and family are with Apple. I chose the HTC One because it was aesthetically pleasing and had very good reviews from many people. I have to say I was enamored with Smart phone technology once I received my phone. The HTC looked good and felt good in my hand. I would have to say it is actually what is available with all these types of phones that is awesome. The HTC is not really an exception and at the end of the day it comes down to personal taste. I am not a person to hold onto an idea or a like for something out of blind faith or stubbornness, so I will let my HTC go at the end of the contract and go for something else. These are the issues I have. The phone runs hot, not just warm but it gets very hot. Apps change position and or items change or go to a different part of the screen......on their own. Customer service is adequate. Adequate is not a term to be utilized for customer service. The internet gets very slow and on these occasions I am required to go to Apps and clear a bit of data. Doesn't seem very smart to me. There are many small things that I just didn't worry about as small things don't bother me so much. Then one day I could phone out and I could hear people, but they could not hear me. So I put the phone on speaker phone and then recipients could hear me. But that is not cool so I turned the phone off and on. Reset the phone to safe mode. Backed up all my info and did a factory reset and none of these things worked and, my back up failed. So in one day I lost phone ability and all my info. Awesome. Customer service were efficient in giving me details and getting me to go through processes to fix the issues, except they did not fix the issues. This was 4 hours of my time and one thing I have learnt in the years I have spent admiring the Earth and the Universe is that time, is the one thing I can never get back. Apparently my last option was to take the phone into the shop where I got it. No, that sounds like more of my time so, I will wait out my contract and live with a phone that I can only use in speaker mode and go with another Smart Phone provider because, I have learnt over time that patience, is a virtue:) Any suggestions as to what I should upgrade to? Do not tell me HTC M8!

Awesome phone – Ive had one of these for 12 months and recently was offered an iPhone 5s in a new role I recently started. I just couldn't give up the bigger screen so gave the iPhone back. Excellent phone! Everything you can ask for – Without a doubt one of the best phones on the market, if not the best. One of the best – I previously owned a SonyEricsson Xperia Arc S for a little over a year. really like it non-the-less. Although it doesn't have SD card extension, I didn't have any issues with it anyway because I only keep useful apps, and I own an iPod so I don't really need to store music on it... no videos either, so I don't have an issue with storage. But the sound quality is good when I streamed YouTube with it. The processing speed is pretty fast, and doesn't go wonky just because I forgot to restart it for a few weeks. Never had a problem with it as far as I had it. I love my HTC one, and I would recommend anyone to get one. Sleek, fast, reliable No SD card extension

I'm now a HTC fan – I've only had it for two weeks and haven't used it for work yet which will be the real test. phone calls mostly.

I use the camera for work related things and sometimes go on the net .

My reasons for buying this phone.

1: Large screen so I can read texts. (I'm 51 yrs)

The text has adjustable fonts right up to "extremely large"

2: The robust metal case, the Samsung's plastic case was easily broken.

(the whole thing feels like quality)

3: The clear front facing speakers for hands free.

4: Highly recommended by my friends with HTC phones.

5: The excellent reviews.

Things I like.

Fast..... really fast, with quick start-up.

Large clear screen & fonts.

Battery power is better than my previous phone.

All content from my Samsung S was easily transferred.

I'm starting to like the app shop now as it's easily accessed.

(the Samsung was so slow)

Things I like least:

Navigation from Samsung has taken some getting used to.

I don't use, or want Blinkfeed, & it can't be removed.

Zoe is an unnecessary gimmick to me.

The profile choices aren't very good so I downloaded "Profile Manager" app, it's great & simple to use. This phone just oozes quality. The sound, the screen size & clarity. The metal case. Not much except for the blinkfeed.

Strong feeling phone – What I love most is that this phone does not need a cover, the case is beautifully finished and the battery life is superb. In built speakers are unreal and have a hell of a kick to them. The stereo sound is quite vivid. Also the supplied headphones are worth $100 on their own.

Most importantly, the phone is like a solid piece of metal. Not plastic like a lot of other high end phones I see. Solid, fast, good battery life and great screen. Nothing yet.

Excellent smart phone, but – The HTC One is an excellent phone in almost all respects - but has a couple of quirky negatives. Prior to this phone I was using an iphone 5 supplied by my employer (and before that an iphone 4) - so my experience with the HTC is gauged mainly against the iphone - although I have owned an android before. First it looks great. It's build quality… Read more

and feel is really good - similar to an iphone. The screen is superb - full HD (1920x1080) resolution on a bright 4.7 inch screen. Things like emails are very readable even when fonts are set to tiny. Sound from the speakers is by far the best I have ever heard on a phone, with plenty of volume available. Sound from earphones is also excellent - maybe slightly better than the iphone when beats audio is switched on.

The HTC's speed is excellent - I have yet to experience any lag on any app other that when it is waiting for the internet.

Battery life also has been very good (this was a let down for the previous HTC I had). I am getting home even after a reasonably heavy day's use with it still showing 40-50% (better than iphone 5).

The negatives:

If you are moving from an iphone the extra size of the handset (although great for viewing) takes a bit of getting used to, and this is compounded by the buttons being badly placed. I've got quite large hands but find it very difficult to pick it up and turn it on one handed - as the on/off button is in the top left. The volume buttons are on the right but again seem badly placed. They also get activated when I don't want - which never seemed to happen with the iphone.

The camera is a bit of a let-down. I use the phone camera a moderate amount (a lot for use with scanning apps) and it is not as good overall as the iphone's. The only situation where it competes well is with interior shots where the lighting is poor. But unless you really take your photography really seriously its not a major issue.

For me Zoe (photo function) is actually a nuisance - not sure how to get rid of it. Blinkfeed is ok - but not as good or customisable as flipboard. I wish I could get rid of that also - rather just use flipboard.

I bought it unlocked from Harvey Norman about a month ago - and it came with android 4.1.2. The HTC newsgroups had being saying that an upgrade to android 4.2 was going to be available during June - but nothing yet :(

If they release a version of stock android for this phone (as google is talking about) I'll definitely install that as the HTC skin is more trouble than it's worth.

Overall - I'm happy with the purchase - would certainly recommend it for anyone buying in that price range. Build quality, screen, sound, speed are excellent. Battery life very good. Button positioning is poor. Would like a stock android version.

forward to HTC bringing 4.2 to the handset which will bring features like blocking mode, something very similar to the Do Not Disturb feature in iOS.

The handset is great to hold, and the auto brightness works very well. The data port is a mini USB so you can get cables just about anywhere.

If you are switching from an iPhone to the One, then I highly suggest you download HTC Sync Manager because it will bring everything from your itunes and iphone across to your new handset, and there is even a transfer contect feature to bring all your SMS's etc. The Samsung Galaxy S4 software does not do this.

Battery life is ok, you will need to charge it daily if you use it a bit for calls etc, or you may get away with 2 days if you use it very lightly. With only 32gb of memory though, be careful to find out the size of your music library before you buy a One, because there is no expandable SD slot, so 32 gigs is it, MAX.

Also, if you're used to playing your music from your iphone to your amp via airplay, then beware that android is NOT good at this sort of thing yet. You can share stuff via DLNA etc, but airplay wins that battle hands down. Beautiful screen, front facing stereo speakers, common mini USB connectivity. Only 32gb storage, needs charging daily, amplifier connectivity lacking.
