iCoffee Roaster

This little machine has been a good performer! – We purchased this little bench-top roaster about 4 years ago for $410. Since then, it has successfully roasted about a kilo of beans every 2 weeks for home use. This appliance, which occasionally does "funny things" (stops for no reason, beeps for no reason...), has eventually and always, delivered the goods and paid for itself over and over! If it stops working tomorrow, we will have had our moneys' worth! :)
icoffee, a love hate relationship with home roasting – A really easy way to roast coffee at home until about 3 weeks in when the glitches start making their appearances. The product comes from Korea so local support is limited but thanks to internet support from sites such as coffeesnobs.com.au. Found that using the settings recommended that the bean would be slightly over done. From research the best method was use manual timing based on the cracking of the bean then quickly removing the beans from the machine then cool.
The problem was the electronics of the roaster. After about 3 or so weeks the machine would beep then stop. Over time the problem would become worse as it would 3 to 5 times before settling down. One person on the forum found that by turning the settings onto full, pressing the start button then turning the dial all the way to zero, the machine would go through a roast flawlessly. After a year of this the problem started again.
Apart from this, the is uniform and a lot better than using a popcorn machine. The smell of roasted coffee beans at home is amazing and knowing your coffee bebean dates help you produce a fantastic coffee shot every time. Roasting time is about 15 minutes which is not that bad.
There is a new version from icoffee and from reports from coffeesnobs.com.au the unit is flawless. If this is true then this machine would be highly recommended.
Would not recommend the first series of the icoffee roaster to a friend but the new version could be a winner. Uniform roast of the bean, easy to use and clean, look of the unit which is Steampunk in style Reliability of the electronics which causes the machine to randomly reset. New model may have fixed this problem.
