Disappointed and Felt Cheated as a Tourist I visited this place as a tourist and left feeling completely disappointed. I ordered five pieces of sushi, each priced at $4.90, totaling $24.50—which is extremely overpriced for what I received. The… Read more

photos show 2 pieces per order cost $4.90. This is totally misleading. The sushi was pre-made and lacked freshness.

To make matters worse, the shop next door offered a sushi box for just $10, and it appeared to be fresher and better value. I genuinely felt cheated by the experience. This was not what I expected, and I wouldn’t recommend it to others.

Follow-up  · First time to be there Normal one like salmon sushi (remember 5 pieces in total) Can't say any decoration, just put the sushi on a medium long plate. Bad Bad Bad

The pistachio gelato was bravissimo! La pizza e molta brava! I will definitely come here again. I only spent $25 for a full meal! 100% would recommend!

Good: Downstairs, the brisket had a lovely flavour, too bad it was dry. The Mac'n'cheese was spot on and the chilli was delicious! I would highly recommend it! The tiramisu upstairs was not bad and it was gluten free, the only good thing about the top section is it has gluten free options! The coffee is really nice, when you first walk in… Read more

there's a cafe near the couches, they do good coffee.

Bad:

$34 Pizza that tasted bland and was worse than my local pizza shop - they skimped on toppings... I would have paid $12 for that pizza!

the upstairs area is way over priced...

for the non-alcoholics like myself... the downstairs area looks like a bar as it has a bar right in the middle, but don't let it fool you... there are restaurants down the bottom also and at a much more reasonable cost.

Food was very overpriced and below average. Wish I had taken a photo of the lasagna that was supposed to be a main but it was so small it would have fitted on a saucer size playe. The music was extremely loud so we sat outside. There are so many authentic Italian places to eat at in central Melbourne - this is definitely not one to go too! Avoid. Show details

Great place for a get together! – A lovely catch up at Mercato Centrale Melbourne! Lots to choose from but decided on some arancini from Il Riso - delicious pumpkin and three cheeses. The pizza from Il Forno was yummy too! The Salsiccia pizza was delcious as was the prosciutto pizza! The chocolate cannoli was divine! Grazie mille Mercato Centrale Melbourne for a lovely afternoon!

Confusing, but the food was good – We liked the variety. The food was tasty and fresh, however there were a few things that let us down. The app functionality was poor and seemed redundant considering your food isn’t delivered to your table. It may also be helpful if the selection menu was run by a UX focus group. Also, as a lesbian couple, we felt uncomfortable because the servers stared quite a bit.

Bad Ordering System – Bad ordering system. They use paper plates. Some of the food looks indifferent. They make it difficult to use cash. No menus for some things unless you use their tedious ordering app system. Seems amateur. The cakes look nice, the Italian accents are lovely it would be ok but a bit expensive for what it is if they just had normal menues and you… Read more

could pay like everywhere else and if you are going to charge those prices please don't use paper plates. Lazy.

Disappointed – Pretty disappointed for a place that gives that authentic Italian feel! Had a slice of the bologna pizza slice from la pizza al taglio by Nicolo Conenna it was cold and hard asked them to warm it more and it was still cold disappointed to say the least. Also had a pasta from the neighbouring place could have made a better ragu at home! Not the… Read more

authentic Italian taste at taste more like a dolmio jar! Gelato and crepe I would have to say was the best meal I had there so do yourself a favour and grab a dessert if you don’t have anything else. The fact that it pretty much all cashless. Another pain in my! Cash is king people!

Overpriced food court – Terrible experience. Noisy, hot, no ventilation and below average overpriced food. 1 star or negative Google reviews are being deleted

Avoid at all costs – Not worth the hype. Food was over-priced, and atmosphere was just average. I ordered a margherita pizza (small size) which cost $25 and was burnt at the base. On top of that, I tried writing a review of my experience on Google and they never published it. After doing some research it seems many people have had similar experiences and a lot of the… Read more

bad reviews have magically disappeared. Not worth visiting at all. Lots of better places to go in Melbourne.

Overpriced overhyped meh food – I wish I could give zero stars. I was so excited to check out this place. I have loved all the Mercatos in Italy and was super excited when this opened What an utter disappointment to say the least. Super expensive, lacks warmth and overhyped. A dry af lobster role was $28, cocktail was $24, a junior scoop gelato was $6. For the price the food tasted dry and lacked freshness. Aren't Mercatos supposed to be reasonably priced? Never going again Show details

Mixed bag – Visited on Monday 1st. Enjoyed the pizzas, very much. Unfortunately one of our group, coeliac, ordered his fairly pricey gf burger. Burger arrives...a meat patty wrapped in curly butter lettuce, NO BUN, a slice of pallid looking tomato and that's it. Disappointing.

Over Hyped, Over Priced, Underwhelmed ! – Heard a lot about this place, the build up was big. Lots of media coverage and buzz happening. Avoided the opening as I'm sure it was going to be massive so went midweek, during a normal lunch time as I was indeed curious. One word to sum up ! "Disappointed". This is a case of marketing over substance. Over Hyped. Over Priced. Underwhelmed and… Read more

Underlit. Small portions, Big prices.

There's a reason they don't show the prices on the website, you'd be too scared to turn up !

don't mind paying for quality but I just didn't see it here.

The ambience is the least Italian thing I've ever experienced. More like grunge industrial chic.

1 star for trying something different I suppose (but failing) and another star for being "centrally located" so at least the Centrale bit of the title is correct. But the Mercato bit ? .....Another fail. Preston Market! Now THATS a Mercato and superior in so many ways.

I WILL NOT be returning !

...and what a pity that they seem to have resorted to "hiding" the massive amount of bad reviews that they had on the G site !
