One year on and stainless steel looks aged & burner indicators faded – Agree with one of the reviews about the quality of looks with this stove top. The safety flame does take getting used to, but we knew this when we bought it (must put in a good word for Winning Appliances here, where we purchased it, excellent service start to finish). In terms of work-ability, this is a very good stovetop and no complaints at… Read more
all, but looks-wise it really doesn't stand up to light use. Our cleaners use water ONLY and a soft sponge weekly - and we're not messy cookers to start with - but after 1 year, it looks about 10 with mysterious marks in the stainless steel that don't come out and gas trays that don't clean. The knob indicators are what worry me the most because they seem fade just due to sunlight into the stainless steel and will soon be illegible.
Looks about 10 years old and it's only been 6 month since purchase – This is just one of many problems we have had with our cooktop. Ever since using it for the first time the burners have marked. The cooktop cleans up fine (in saying that the pictures showing which burner have already rubbed off...and no I don't use anything abrasive) but the burners are covered in black spots. I had customer service call me after… Read more
sending a photo through and although I tried to explain it was not spills or food they said there's nothing they can do only send me some cleaning product. Well that arrived today and surprise surprise it doesn't come off. I've heard that sometimes it can mark with bottled gas? But we don't use bottle gas. It looks awful dirty and old. So frustrated!!!!!
Flame constantly blows out – I have had this cooktop for 6 months now and have had it serviced 3 times due to issues with the ignition and flame remaining on when I have it on minimum for purposes of simmering. The 'simmer' flame which is the minimum you can set the flame is much too high so I had that fixed but it is still too high and actually makes the dish cook too fast… Read more
rather than simmers. Then 9 out of 10 times, the flame cuts out and I then have to reignite it to have it shut off again. Hate cooking with this cooktop. Not worth what you have to pay for it.
Faulty ignition knob – We wanted to return this to the shop, but were told it is a child safe mechanism - doesn't sit well with me. Here's why - when you turn on the gas, you need to hold down the ignition for at least 10 seconds - sometimes 15 (but this can depend on whether you've recently used that burner. Recently used ones oly need to be held down for a couple of… Read more
seconds). I see how this could be a safety feature, however I would expect the gas to cut out if it didn't ignite, so that children didn't gas themselves. The story doesn't sit well with me, and it can be very frustrating. Also, you cannot get a gentle simmer - ever. High heat capabilities - great for stir frying Ignition functionality, cannot get a gentle simmer
excellent – Looks great, Works great. Easy to clean. This thing just does what it is supposed to do, and does it well. The five burners a spaced optimally so I can have a large pot and 2 other saucepans on there at the same time without too much hassle. Larger burners are at the back with simmers at front (the way I like them laid out). Trivets are nice heavy… Read more
duty cast iron but not so heavy, that they're a pain to wash.
I wish it was a bit easier to clean around and under the knobs without removing them, but this is a minor gripe. Burners cook very evenly with no hot/cool spots in my pans. hard to clean around knobs without removing them.
Amazing! Awesome cooktop – This is by far the best cooktop I have ever used, the minimum flame is 5mm high and actually simmers! All burners have true simmer and when up high distribute heat evenly. The brass fittings are efficient and easy to clean. The cooktop is easy to clean and looks awesome. By far the best purchase for my house yet. Everything! Show reply
Bit disappointed – I like the layout, which is why I chose this cooktop. Having the wok burner on one side rather than the middle lets me use the other burners when I am using my biggest pan. HOWEVER the lighting mechanism is terrible, and so far two have failed in less than three years. Of course one failed jsut out of warranty! ALso, the wok burner in particular… Read more
has a terrible tendency to go out, right when you need the pan to be very hot. It also takes a long time to actually light, and then we have to keep the lighter clicking away for ages or the flame goes out. This of course means ALL the lighters are clicking away.
All in all, given it is Ilve, I am disappointed. Also, the Ilve badges fell off very early on and now one of the control rings is loose, so it is meaningless for checking the flame! Styling, wok burned on right rather than in middle Flame is hard to ignite and wok burner goes out a lot!
OK – It teaches you to be a fast cook as the flame is so hot. I would have preferred the big burner to be at the front (away from the wall) so I can fit the big wok on it. It is shiny and matches the style of other ilve kitchen appliances. The flame is strong and burns like there is no tomorrow. Ignition is easy and works first time. Relatively easy to… Read more
clean. Not a lot of control over the flame. The knob is either "burn the house down" or "slow cook marshmallow". The black cover on the big burner is peeling and bubbling.
