Best water based product on the market for decking and outdoor timber – Fantastic product that lasts the distance. We use 1000's of litres of this a year in our Sydney deck sealing restoration company and it's the best sealer available on the market. If you follow the instruction the results are amazing. Keep in mind though, as with all coatings the finish is only as good as the preparation. Make sure you really give… Read more ·  1

the deck a through clean and even a sand back to bare timber if the deck is rough. Also, match the tint to your existing tint if you're doing a top up so the colour is consistent with any area that might have weathered through. I'd recommend Walnut or Teak for a nice honey colour if you're starting from scratch. 3 thinner coats are better than 2 thicker coats and allow a couple of hours in between drying time where possible. 1 x 10l tin normally does 3 coats on about 50-60m2. If you're applying it in summer use a water based paint conditioner(wet edge extender) and avoid coating after midday or it can be hard to brush out evenly. Remember, your finish will only be as good as your preparation work. Don't rush it.

Wears out quickly and patchy and hard to undo – This is meant to be a premium product but I found it to be awful. It puts a protective layer on top of the wood which is very hard to maintain. I put three layers on a boardwalk to the front door (family home, not high traffic) and found that there was patchy deterioration within 9 months. Trying to recoat created a patchy effect. Trying to remove… Read more

it was very difficult either using water-blasting or stripper. Eventually had to sand it with a belt sander. Customer services did not have any useful advice either. Stick to an oil based product that penetrates right in and is easily reapplied.

Easy application and looks fantastic! – I have painted my new treated pine fence with Intergrain UltraDeck Timber stain in Ebony off a Charcoal base. I allowed the fence to age the appropriate amount of time (3 months), washed it off with my pressure hose and then painted two coats of the stain with an inexpensive air sprayer bought from Bunnings. The application was quick and easy -… Read more

apart from having to refill the small pot of the spray gun very regularly - and the fence looks *chefs kiss* superb. 6 months down the line the fence still looks like the day I did it, no fading at all. Highly recommend.

Very good! beautiful finish – I used the Merbau finish, and it looks fantastic. I don't know yet how long it will last, but it was easy to apply and the results are much much nicer than what I have used before.  Show details

Like spreading peanut butter – New treated pine deck. Recommended to use Intergrain ultradeck timber stain. Cleaned it first with ultraprep, gave it a week to dry and just did the first (and only) coat of Merbau. The result, horrible and patchy and of course nothing like the samples in Bunnings or the visualiser tool. Even used their own brand lambs wool applicator. Advice from… Read more

their tech. support suggested the wood was damp, because it rained heavily in Penrith (200klm away) the night before. They finally advised not to do a second coat but to use their stripper and hose it off, but only after assessing the job the next morning. Just blew $300 on the stain. Why are their sample pots so damn expensive ($20). They should be a nominal cost so anyone can be absolutely sure before applying the product. Extremely disappointed in what is supposed to be a market leading product.

A paint, not a stain – I used Intergrain Natural Stain on Carter Colt Harvey Treated pine Shadowclad (plywood) cladding for a garage. First coat looked good, but when second coat went on the garage looked painted and colour went very dark, like a blood orange. I used colour Kowhai. It said to use two coats or even three on new timber. Will end up have to paint the garage in a year if stain don't fade a bit. Very good value for money. 10L almost covered 96sqm of wall. Show details

Great for timber retaining wall – Tried this product after watching a youtube video. Went on very easy. Dried very quickly. All up about 3L used. Took me 2 hours or so. Just one coat was applied. Couldn't be happier! See my before pressure washing, after pressure washing, and after using the natural stain. Show details

Expensive but great for treated pine – Recently purchased a home with a treated pine deck (I've always had merbau). The deck was actually painted with paint peeling off (was only a few years old) and looked terrible so I did some research and found this product. After LOTS of work stripping the grey paint back and prepping as per instructions I used this product in charcoal colour… Read more ·  1

and my deck has come up a treat! Was really expensive in Bunnings however I was lucky enough to find it discounted online as a seller had some "dented" cans so got a cheaper price which of course I was happy with. Looks MUCH better than the paint (more natural look) and have had no problems with peeling. Perfect for treated pine as you don't see the "cheap look" of the pine but doesn't look like a cheap paint job either which seems to be what most people do with treated pine decks. Has been on for 5 months now with no problems showing at all. The deck is uncovered, has dogs running around on it, faces west so gets harsh afternoon sun and also gets quite a bit of water on it with rain and garden watering so looks to me like I made a good choice here. I did 3 coats as I wanted it dark and absolutely LOVE the colour, really sets the outside off having the dark boards with decking lighting and colourful plants around - have had plenty of compliments so was definitely worth the $$$.

Shocking product, do not touch it!! – After consultation with a Bunnings rep, I purchased the Intergrain NaturalStain. This is the WORST product I have ever used. Am now waiting for the owner of the local paint specialist store to come and offer advice as to how to rectify the disgusting mess this product created. Followed instructions, yet the NaturalStain has left our new decking… Read more

looking like some old floor that has been hidden under carpet for years. Contacted Intergrain, who asked many questions all of which was a poorly veiled attempt to negate liability for their product. Worst $130 ever spent on a decking stain. After getting professional advice I will then consider my options!

Epic failure! Don't waste your money, time and effort – I installed a new deck which we used intergrain power prep prior to fixing the timber and after allowing it to weather for almost 3 months after laying it followed with using intergrain reviva as per the directions. We then coated with intergrain stain (charcoal). Not only did it completely cover the natural wood grain of the timber completely but… Read more

it left an appearance of being painted with the house paint instead of a stain. The first coat of stain gave the appearance the stain had been absorbed into the timber and although the colour I had hoed to achieve was perfect on the first coat it was recommended a minimum of 2 coats be applied so a subsequent coat was completed leaving it to appear as if It had be painted. After only six months of this so called "stain" being applied, the product had lifted and peeled throughout the deck and looked terrible. Over $600 was spent on i tergrainproducts and instructions followed to the letter and I am now left with a deck that despite the money spent installing and finishingonly 12 months ago now looks like it's 10 years old and been neglected severely for the duration of its life.

When deciding on which brand product to purchase all of the brands claimed they lasted longer than other traditional products but after meeting an intergrain rep who happened to be instore on one occasion he assured me it was a premium product by far and would outlast all other products in addition to minimal maintenance I pared to others with recoating Would only be required a minimum of 2- max 5 years. I was a sucker then for believing the rubbish out of his mouth and now will cost me a fortune to strip and recoat with an alternative product. Avoid this product at all costs.
