DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY TO DO ANY HANDYMAN WORK EVER. I contacted [Name Removed] from Jason’s Handyman Services for a quote to erect and paint a pergola on 12th September 2025, I provided him a picture of what the finished pergola should look like… Read more
when completed. I told [Name Removed] that I would buy a pergola kit from Bunnings so all he had to do was assemble it and paint it as the picture showed.
He quoted me $1200 plus gst to do the job, [Name Removed] said that this amount was for labour of 2 people, paint in colour of my choice, dyna bolting pergola to the existing concrete and levelling packers to ensure the pergola is level. He also said that he would do the job on weekends as he worked in Portarlington during the week. I agreed to the above price that he quoted.
On 28 September I informed him when the pergola kit had been delivered and asked him if he wanted to come and have a look at the job but he said he didn't have time and it wouldn’t be a problem.
On the 12th October [Name Removed] and one of his friends came to start the job of assembling the pergola, they managed get the pergola assembled and then left saying he now needed to buy a special undercoat as the pergola had been treated with some coating. I was a bit confused as to why he wouldn’t have used undercoat anyhow and when I asked him about it, he stated that he never uses undercoat for any of his work. He informed me that the undercoat paint was $80 to purchase.
On the 19th October he came back to level the pergola which and dyna bolt it to the ground. He also commenced the painting of the undercoat. On that day he then informed me that it would cost me another $300-$400 more as he could not complete the job in the 2 days he had allocated. I told him that I would not pay the extra as it was not my fault that he underestimated how long it would take and the fact that he came alone in the 2nd day, even though I was quoted labour for 2 people.
On the 6th December [Name Removed] came back to paint the rest of the undercoat, [Name Removed] then asked me for payment in full even though he had not completed the job. I did not want to pay him as the job was still to be completed so I said I would pay him half of the money at that point and then pay the rest on completion if the job to my satisfaction. He then question my integrity by saying that it said more about me than him as he had every intention to complete the job.
I reluctantly paid him the full amount even the gst against my better judgement, and then the day that he was meant to come and apply the final coat of paint and finish the job he cancelled that morning after I contacted him and said that he had to reschedule another time. I left it 2 weeks as this was the Christmas, new year period and I knew everyone was on holidays.
I rang him on the 12th January and my call went straight to message bank which I thought was strange but was unaware that this meant he blocked my number. I tried calling again the next day and again my call went to message bank this is when I realised I was blocked and couldn’t call him. He also removed me off his social media and changed his name on social media so couldn’t find him. [Name Removed] left my pergola in undercoat and is not level at all. I now have a half finished job which will have to be completed by someone else.
[Name Removed] has no trade qualifications or trade background he was a salesman in his prior occupation and now claims to be a handyman. He is lazy and would never turn up on time so no wonder he couldn’t finish the job in his required timeframe and does very poor quality work.
People learn from my bad experience with this LOW LIFE and DO NOT HIRE HIM
Follow-up · The colour was not as expected at [Name Removed] left the pergola in the thinnest layer of undercoat and did not leave me the paint that i paid for. I had to then purchase more paint and paint the whole pergola myself and as the undercoat was so thin I used more paint to ensure complete coverage. The pergola is as sturdy as could be with the… Read more
