Completely gone downhill. Had some work done 4 years ago and was very happy so I contacted them again. I was disappointed to realise the franchise had changed hands but took a gamble. I received a reasonable quote from [Name Removed] to do some simple storm damage repairs in Karana Downs but he didn’t quote for some work he would outsource. He… Read more
invoiced for the quoted work despite a two week pause in the middle of the job. I paid the invoice to discover he hadn’t completed the quoted work. He wouldn’t respond to texts and now he has blocked me. Don’t waste time on these guys, shonky as.
I have had extensive renovations done at my home by Hire a Hubby, Morwell - these are always done in a very professional manner with excellent workmanship - Josh in particular has had a variety of jobs to do at my home, including the cleaning of a very large pond, which proved more difficult than first thought. I can thoroughly recommend all their tradespersons for their very friendly and helpful assistance. Show details · 1

Babak installed 2 grab rails in 2 separate ensuite showers. He was most particular to identify suitable wooden studs and avoid existing plumbing. Work was completed within 24 hours of receiving the request. Show reply

and equipment to complete the jobs. He ordered the beams and roofing for the carport. Getting the stair stringers in place involved heavy lifting and Paul had the appropriate wheeled dolly to bring it down the steep driveway. He took away the old building materials and we are very happy with the outcome. First 2 photos are Before work
Professional and Friendly – These guys did a brilliant job of plastering a small gap above our rangehood. This was the last thing to do after our kitchen renovation and noone wanted to do such a small job. Ben was fantastic! He went above and beyond to make it perfect! Very professional and highly recommended! Thanks guys!!! Show reply
Fantastic service from Jim Hire a Hubby Balgowlah and Mona Vale – Jim from Hire a Hubby Balgowlah and Mona vale was absolutely outstanding. I contacted Hire A Hubby to have some Carpentry work done. I was contacted by their Werribee representative. We booked a site meeting to go over what needed to be done. It took a few weeks.to receive the quote. .I was told.there was some work I… Read more
wanted done they wouldn't do because they didn't have scaffolding. I was happy with the price , so signed it off. They didn't book a date in and I was told I would have to wait about 1 month. A date was booked in. About 1 week before the work was due to be done, Dean said they would have another look at doing the work he said they wouldn't do previously because scaffolding was required. I had to call a couple of times to find out if they would do it or I had to find someone.else. Eventually I received an email 5 days before the work was booked to be done. He said again they wouldn't do the work requiring scaffolding and jacked the price of the work I had agreed up. The original price had been $3,500, now he wanted another $5,700 plus he wanted $2,800 before they would come.out and he said it may cost more once they opened up the porch roof and looked at the issue. I was shocked. This was 5 days before they were to start, 1 month after they gave me the original quite. I sent an email to Dean and ccd their office explaining what happened and how dissatisfied I was. No response from their office. I asked the question, was he incompetent or ripping me off? The verandah had not changed since he came out to quote originally, you could still see the same rot. I called Hire a Hubby this morning to discuss my concerns, no response. I called again this afternoon, still no response. Do they condone this behaviour? If you're in Werribee, I would suggest you keep away from this company.
Follow-up · My son was at the initial site meeting, he's 29. He didn't express any concerns to me. Everything seemed OK. I knew the price increase was outrageous , so cancelled immediately. Never again. [Name Removed] from Ridgehaven. He was 2 hrs late .His quote was $465 including parts but after the job was finished he charged $800. charge me another $200 because he" had multiple trips to the hardware store"- because he didnt buy everything he needed the first time after looking at the jobs first , so whose fault is that?
He screwed the loose fence panel to the panel next to it, not the rail, and he nailed the loose rail on the lattice in place where it had fallen instead of lifting it back.
He smashed the sliding glass front door rehanging it( and it still sticks!), told me 3 times to tell insurance company I broke it. Then offered to do work for my mother instead of paying excess or claiming on his insurance, he had quoted $120 for that but then said it was $200 so he owed her $50, then when leaving he refused to pay the $50.
He refused to provide reciepts for parts or give me a labour cost.
I told him 20 times not to leave doors and gates open so pets didnt get out but he walked away from them leaving them open EVERY TIME,after my cats did get out and I spent 20 frantic minutes searching for them I stood guard at the door when he was working on it. He did not apologise or even acknowledge this nor did he change his behaviour .
$800 later( that I wouldnt have spent had he quoted that or checked the prices with me before buying the parts) I now have doors that still stick, an insurance excess , and a fence that isnt repaired properly.

We used Hire a Hubby for some small works a while back, everything seemed fine the results were good based on this we asked if they had scope for pre-sale preparation the answer was yes. August/September went through what we needed done: general repairs such as gate, external architrave etc, screens and internal house paint. Advised what other contractors we had engaged and the time lines. No worries.
We vacated the property early December, with understanding work would start shortly afterwards.
First alarm bell should have been when the kitchen reno was about to start with another contractor, Hire a Hubby had to be followed up to do a few things so the kitchen could start on time.
Then it was a falling out with painter, which we had to follow up to find out about. Of which we did not receive notice until just before Christmas and after the anticipated completion date, making it impossible for us to seek other options.
We had to advise carpet layers paint was being done after and had to advise landscaper/turfer to readjust schedule as paint may delay photo schedule.
We were advised new painter engaged by Hire a Hubby would commence January, again they did not start the date we were advised.
We and our selling Agent adjusted dates based on the new dates advised, this also impacted: roof cleaner, electricians, internal cleaner, staging for sale, marketing, open house schedule and so on.
We were then advised there was a discussion with our Agent about extending the date, the Agent advised us in writing there was no agreement and as we had engaged Hire a Hubby it would not be their call to agree to differing dates and they already had everything booked in to go from by a set date later January based on a completion update we had sourced from Hire a Hubby.
Hire a Hubby was advised the date could not be extended, Head Office was included in email trail at this point.
Completion dated lapsed, works still incomplete only portions of tasks commenced. Further follow up required by us.
At this time both Head Office and Qld office were emailed seeking assistance, with a follow up call to Head Office requesting complaint submission. Was advised would receive reference number and matter would be noted as urgent, nothing via SMS or email. Sent a follow up email just in case missed the phone contact, crickets!
We are 3-4 hours from property so we can’t just drop in to oversee and we should not have to hound someone.
All other tradies working on house have been easy to work with and open with communication including if they came across a concern/delay. Would 100% recommend each and every one of them.
Would NOT recommend Hire a Hubby at all ! Hindsight should have “sacked” Hire a Hubby when the kitchen tradie was held up, should have been a warning it was outside Hire a Hubby scale of expertise. But we trusted that it was just a small hiccup in the bigger scheme of things, at that time we thought it was a one off.
Advice to Hire a Hubby: - If a job is out side your scope don’t advertise it as an available service. - If it’s outside your Franchisee scope they should advise before accepting works. -Communicate to your customers proactively and transparently. - Don’t make customers follow you up, most people can deal with hurdles if there is a work around communicated to them. - Take accountability
At time of this review being posted have received no confirmation works were completed today and to an acceptable standard for pre-sale, in process of contacting someone who can provide us an update..as result all other services we have booked and paid for to sell our home are in limbo and we have money going out the door.
# Have since been advised - husband had to visit the site in the evening - that we can expect a crew of painters at the house to complete the painting and the other works most of which are not related to paint so not sure why not already done. If the promise is delivered and to standard, great. The complaint and this review will remain primarily to advise others to look at all options before nominating Hire a Hubby and to highlight the stress created by poor communication. We do not to expect to be asked to foot the bill for any additional tradies called in to complete in 24 hours what should have been done last year if not then early January or any call back charges due to job going way over impacting other services booked ability to complete their works.
No response or follow from Head Office noted, brand reputation is not a priority
Sam took forever to contact me and I had to message him quite a few times to make a booking. Quite rude over the phone. Difficult to communicate with, wouldn’t answer all my questions. HaH tradesman who attended my home in Mt Gravatt can only be described as a scammer. Quote provided quickly and tradesman “talked the talk”. Subsequent issues with communication. doors but none painted properly and required repainting. Two were improperly fitted. One interior door rattles in a breeze, and other not straight in frame (frame is square). Exterior door fitted so poorly it would not lock and tradesman took 7 weeks to return. Tried to scam again by claiming new lock he fitted was faulty and not covered by warranty.
Would not take responsibility for poor workmanship. Untidy and lazy worker who did not clean up when working and left paint on my floors and carpet. HaH management refuse to investigate complaint and defer to the franchisee. Note this tradesman is qualified and has a clean record with QBCC.

For the most part our experience was positive concerning quality of work and timeline. Dylan’s services to the buyer of our house he was unresponsive. During the last job Dylan did for us I text him and requested a quote for a carport. Also requested keys be left under the mat so my kids could get in the house. He never responded to this message and luckily I came home early as he left the keys on the counter inside. Dylan is a nice, trustworthy fellow who I always felt comfortable having at the house unattended but some of the other points mentioned detract for the overall value his services offer.

Outstanding Service from Luke at Hire a Hubby! We recently had Luke from Hire a Hubby come out to help with a problem we were having with our previuosly eroded clothes hoist. He arrived early. carefully reviewed the setup and spent a good amount of time trying to understand if a new hole would solve our issue. After some detailed examination and testing of the existing hole, Luke concluded that the erosion problem wasn’t due to water drainage, which we initially thought.
It was refreshing to have someone who genuinely took the time to troubleshoot and offer professional advice, rather than just jumping straight into a costly fix. His approach was both practical and thoughtful.
We appreciate Luke’s expertise and honesty – highly recommend Hire a Hubby for any home improvement or maintenance needs!
Mike (from Hire a Hubby Murrumba Downs) did such a great job at repairing our front landing. He arrived when he said he would, great communication, courteous and neat and tidy. Very pleased with the finished job. Have already started recommending him to friends and family. Thanks Mike.
H. Hubby Brinsmead; Listening skills as well as experience and the tools means that the jobs done are exactly as requested. Dietrich also provided additional information about clever alternative options and what areas to watch for, such as a problem moisture area in the bathroom. That eye for detail and helpful planning ahead was so valuable. I had an odd mixed list of minor tasks and all completed within 3 hours.
Babak was responsive with questions during both quotation and works phase. Attended on dates and advised time when he was next attending. Works were for internal carpentry and plasterer, site left clean, brought own vacum cleaner.

Unreliable, just when when head office gives you someone that’s meant to be more reliable, that person, does the unthinkable and starts to contact the person that was previously allocated to the job, and tries to pass it back to them.
