Hi used our Joolca for the first time last night and every time we turn the tap off at the shower head the water kept coming out , only way we could work it was for someone to man the pump and turn it off every time we needed to soap up . Any ideas on what’s going on Regards Gav
Hi Gaven I'm sorry to hear about the leaking shower head! A reason why this could be happening is if you've installed the shower switch upsidedown. The on/off switch should be at the top (closer to the showerhead). If you find that your switch was installed upside down, flip it to the correct orientation and see how you go. If you find that it still leaks, send an email to support@joolca.com.au, and the team there will organise a replacement for you.
Cheers Emre
Hi thanks for that will try it out when we get back to our campsite tonight. Regards Gav
Hi Emre thanks for the heads up , all is working well . Great machine.
Can I use a longer extension power lead to the pump?
Yes
ThankYou
Hello. I just bought a new joolca hottap Nomad. Once I turn the shower head off, the joolca pump cuts off, but after a minute it kicks in again for a split second then shuts off again. I have most of my connections leaking a little bit. I tightened all of them but still a slight leak. I think this is why the pump kicks in for a split second all the time. Any idea how to stop the leaking connections? Do I have to replace them with brass fittings and new hoses. Also, on the manual, they said not to use thread tape. Any reason why?
Try thread tape
They actually said on there manual not to use thread tape, no idea why. Maybe I will anyway. Thanks
We used a vernier re re leak to identify why Leak significant from hose to shower head If you compare the wall thickness of other hose they differ and give unsatisfactory connection Didn’t use tape in case void Joolca and suppliers of hiding must look at detailed messages we provided in communication to them with photos identifying why leak Have not had any comms back and we want to use the unit as everything else is ok
Everything else seems ok but no further comms from Joolca
I just got one too and are having the same problem. All hose connections are leaking.
Hi Fabrice, Womblesmith & Aaron, Can you please reach out to support@joolca.com.au? We'll be more than happy to help, and we always reply to every single ticket. Sometimes if we're backlogged it might take a little longer but usually we're replying quite quickly.
Thank you, looking forward to helping get this fixed up!

I used the smallest zip tie I could get and that would fit inside the coupling. I will test it out on the weekend. Cheers
You are right about the small drip type leaks that will cause the pump to cut in and out momentarily. That is the way the pump activates/works. Pressure. If you can't stop the leaks the simple solution is to just disconnect the power after every use. I would be anyway. Also suggest you look at the washers and O rings in the fittings or lack of them. Sometimes it is easier to add another washer. That could solve your problem. I would also make a habit of disconnecting the power always. Could save a battery if a hose were to come off when your sitting around the fire and deaf as i am. Cheers
My joolca hoses are still slightly leaking even after after I zip tied the hoses on the fittings. I was going to buy new fittings from a gardening shop but opted out after finding it would cost me around $90 to replace the lot. Thanks TUI, I think turning the pump off is a great idea.
With the old V1 pump, do you have to keep disconnecting the power source to the pump when turning of the shower head?
Hey Chris, nope you do not. Once you switch off the shower head, the V1 (and V2) pump will automatically shut off :)
Thanks for the response.
Maximum temperature acheived 42 deg C with lowest water flow and max gas feed.
How can it be tweaked to get higher temperature?
Hey Tim,
One idea is to recirculate the water (if possible) but for more ideas or to ensure your HOTTAP is working at maximum performance, please reach out to support@joolca.com and we'll be able to help you out with this.
Warm regards, Joolca
I agree, If using an open container such as a paint bucket, drop the shower head into the bucket with the Joolca running for about a minute and stir, the raised source water from the bucket temperature will raise your shower head temperature.
Can l buy in a store or plumbing outlet
Hi Barry, You can buy on our website or you can check out some of our retailers. Tent World will have stock of the HOTTAP Outing if that's the product you're after, you can give them a call beforehand to ensure they have stock at your location.
Hope this helps! Chris
Thanks for your prompt reply
Purchased a unit late 2018 and only set it up for the 2nd time this weekend. Ist time we used it we plugged it into town water and it was terrific. This time however, we were off grid and used it out of a 20 lt jerry can. Pump working fine but unit wouldn't turn on. Gas flowing well and replaced batteries just in case. Still no hot water. It did turn on briefly first up. Any clues?
We are considering purchasing one of your hot water systems primarily for winter in FNQ as we currently only have cold water at home via a gravity fed shower from our tank that we pump from the river into. I am wondering if this system will be suitable for us in that the temperatures of water coming out of our tank are quite cold even in the middle of summer and if we also would need the Blue cold water intake hose with pump or if connecting into our existing gravity fed system would be sufficient.
Is there any way, other than the phone number in one of the above questions, and email to support, to contact Joolca? I placed an order on Sunday for a Hottap Outing (it is now Tuesday late afternoon). It has not been sent. I have left two messages, the last of which was a call during operating hours that was not answered. I have also sent an email to support. I have not had any response. Please help.
As I did not expect ours until we received tracking information I’m sorry I cannot help you.
I found they they are prixs to deal with!
Sorrry to hear that Rob. If you PM us here with your email I'd be happy to look into what's happened and make sure you're looked after. We try and make things with support very straight forward and simple, I'd want to fix this up for you.

I have new batteries in the ignitor, pump is pumping water through the system but there is no illumination of the info monitor therefore there is no ignition. Any ideas what could be wrong, only the 2nd camping trip that weve used it!!!
That is unusual. Call Joolca direct and they will help you.
Had sa e problems.the pump needs to be primed first.read instructions on how to set up when starting easy fix
Same for us. Pump is primed and still not working.

I’ve got the same problem and stuck camping with cold showers until the office opens and will be done camping then
Hi Scott,
I am sorry that we were not able to help you while you were out camping. I hope we're able to make it up to you in some way. Are you able to email in or give us a call?
Thank you, Chris
I’m having the same problem. Flame lights up for 1 second and then cuts out. Only 3rd time using the joolca hot tap. Water pumps through fine and have a full gas bottle. Just won’t stay light up
Hi Thomas Sorry to hear about that mate, it does sound odd to me that the HOTTAP only ignites for one second before turning off. If you shoot an email to support@joolca.com.au the team there will get to the bottom of this for you and have it fixed up or replaced if needed
I've just purchased my Joolca Hottap Outing.... yipee! Couple of questions. If i want to have a cold shower, can i just leave the gas off? For extreme portability... would a 12V 7.2AH sealed lead acid battery be able to run the pump?
Hi Christine! Yes either turning the gas off at the bottle or also popping the battery case out will cause the unit not to heat up. The battery will work however it won't have long use out of it as the pump uses 2 - 3.5 amps on average so you'll get 1-2 hours maximum before a recharge is required.
Thanks!
Thanks for that.
I’m considering the hottap outing for a 10 day Scout camp. I’d like to have an idea of the amount of battery capacity I’ll need for the pump. I can estimate how many minutes the unit will run for — can you tell me the approximate current the pump will draw, and what factors affect the current?
Hi I have the outing setup, on a 60 amp/hr battery with a 5 watt solar panel it can easily do four 20 min showers a day , I expect many more would be ok, the setup works really well. Just a note the pump has a runtime of 20 min then needs a rest. Sorry not sure of amp requirements , it's not a large pump so a can't imagine it being high.
Hope this helps a little.
Craig
I have had an answer direct from Joolca: "The average draw of the pump is between 2.5 and 3.8. The pump is rated for a maximum of 5.8 amps although it doesn't get this high in normal operation." and "The draw for the pump is higher [i.e. towards the 3.8A end of the scale] at a low flow rate, this is because the pump is a 6L p/m pump. So it's drawing higher because, it's working harder to produce less flow."
Hi Tom,
Yep, you've got the answer there! Glad you've got it sorted.
Kind Regards,
Chris
Hi, we purchased the HOTTAP OUTING in Dec 2017 & only used a handful of times. It is leaking from all fittings & the pump will not activate if it's positioned above the water inlet level, it will only activate if it's below & the fittings are still leaking?
Hi Simone, Please send us an email to support@joolca.com.au or call 1300 669 500 during business hours. Our support is very good and will 100% fix this up for you :) I can't see your email or other details here so we'll have to wait for you to reach out to us before we can help!
Thanks,
Chris
Any leak in a connection between the tank and the pump will mean it's sucking air and not water. If all the fittings are leaking you are not going to get an effective use. There should be no leaks at all if things are assembled correctly. We have used ours in many different situations, this is the big advantage of the Hottap system. It's very flexible and portable, and thankfully quite durable, we've had young horses standing on get tangled in the hose, which we have extended by about 6 metres to get around the big beasts. We have ours hanging semi-permanent in our float as we are on the road with our horses, but have also used it hanging on the deck at our house when the power is off due to storm damage.
So first thing is to fix the leaks!
Happy travels and warm showers.

How many litres. Per minute?
HOTTAP gives you a water flow of up to 6L/min
Yup, between around 3-6L per minute!
Hi. I sent my brand new hottap up today, everything in the right places water comes out as soon as you turn the shower head onto any function the panel lights up and the ignitor fires away and lights up. I can feel the heat coming up the top vent. Thats were the fun stops, for a second the water warms up and then nothing goes back to tap temperature the heater is still alight but the digital panel will never go over 28 degrees. Ive got the water flow on low and heat on high. Not sure what else to do?
Hi,
Please call us on 1300 669 500 or email support@joolca.com.au and we'll help you out with this. It should be a simple fix :)
Thanks,
Chris
I have this same problem but can't find a solution anywhere.
Hi Mat,
Please email us on support@joolca.com.au or jump on our website, we have Live Chat running quite often now and we can help you very quickly.
Warm regards, Chris
worked great for about 4 to 6 months then it wouldn't ignite unless I took the shower head off but now it wont ignite no matter what.
I have checked the batteries and checked the inlet strainer as advised when I called the help but no go. Any ideas?
Hi Troy, Your best bet is to email us in on our support email or call us on 1300 669 500. We will definitely help you resolve this - and if your HOTTAP is still under warranty, it won't cost you anything to get it fixed, if it is indeed faulty.
Please call us and we will have this fixed up for you ASAP!
Hello Joolca Team, we have had a unit for 3 or 4 months. The first time it worked without a hitch the next time we used it the unit ignites but the temperature fluctuates and will not increase or decrease when using the dial. Help please. I would like to drop the unit in this Friday for someone to look at it. We have checked the gas connection, the batteries, the gas bottle and connected it to our mains water at home. Please help us. Thank you Valla
Hi Valla, Thanks for sending this in. Just as a courtesy reminder, the Product Review website is a 3rd party and we do not monitor it as often as we do our support emails and support phone calls.
Please call us on 1300 669 500 or email us at support @ joolca.com.au. Please do not come by until you have first spoken with our support team as otherwise we may not have time to do an on the spot inspection (we rarely do these as we keep to a schedule to keep things running smoothly).
Our support team will help you out with this ASAP. One way or another you will walk away a happy camper, promise! :)
Just wondering when you guys use your hot tap whether you keep it permenantly attached to mains water or do you connect it to the tap as needed. When on a powered site with water, I'd like to have a hose to the van for our water and another to the hottap. Theoretically, with a dual connector on the site's mains so I can switch between the two. Just dont want to run the risk of forgetting to switch the hot tap water off and run out of gas... thoughts? Suggestions
We left it permanently turned on, so when you use the tap there was hot water with no fuss. We did only turn the tap partial turn so the pressure wasn't too high, as our town water pressure is very good, but that would depend on the pressure where you are. It only uses gas and turns on the Hottap when you use water, when not in use it stays off. The only issue we had was after being connected for 4 months, it started dripping from the base, but on phoning the manufacturer, they advised us how to adjust the screw to stop that.
Hi Padraig,
We'd recommend to always disconnect the gas hose and water when the unit is not in use.
Cheers, Mac.
cant get the water temp very high Im in QLD using fresh rain water unit is running as it should but temp is not hot enough for doing dishes an warm shower at best..?? Any ideas?
Seems very unusual Phil. My guess is flame is not up high enough. I suggest you contact Joolca direct, or messenger through Facebook. They are very helpful and quick to reply.
Hi Phil, that is unusual indeed, I'm sure your ambient water temp would be fairly high. Please get in touch with us directly to troubleshoot - Mac.
Hi, can I use a 4kg gas bottle instead of a 9kg bottle?
Thanks
Kieran
Sure can. You could even use a smaller one than a 4kg. The only limitation is how many showers you would get from a smaller bottle. According to the website, the 9kg provides about 15 hours of hot water. Check out their website - there is so much info there. joolca.com.au
