Hello I just received a new hottap and it's not igniting. I've put fresh battery's in it ,purged the fuel line and changed propane tanks. What could be the problem

Joolca
Joolca   DM

Hey Mike, I'm sorry to hear about your HOTTAP not igniting! Confirming that when you mean not igniting, your HOTTAP's LED monitor turns on, and you hear fast clicking? If so, it looks like you've tried the correct steps. If your LED monitor isnt turning on, the troubleshooting steps would be different. Either way, if you reach out to support@joolca.com.au and send over the video, they'll help get you back on track!

What’s the lowest temp my hot tap unit should drop to

Joolca
Joolca   DM

Hey Montanna! It really depends on the incoming water temp. In general, the HOTTAP can heat incoming water from 15C-35C (depending on settings), so whatever the ambient water temp is + 10C should be the lowest, and +35C from ambient should be the highest.

For example, if your ambient temp is 10C: On the coldest setting, you should see around ~25C On the hottest setting, you should see ~45C

Hope this helps :)

Hello, I can’t get the water temperature to go over 38. With water on low and gas on high. Gas bottle is tight and fully on…we have tried turning the screw at the bottom 1 turn ..no luck….our water is coming from an outside tap with a drinking hose on it……the tap is only turned on low as well……?

darren

did you get a response to your question? I have the same problem.

Joolca
Joolca   DM

Hey Darren & Lynette, sorry for missing this! The HOTTAP can heat water around 30-35°C above the incoming water temp. If you have cold water coming in, your output won't be as hot. In winter or on very cold days, incoming water temperatures are much cooler, and subsequently, the output is not as hot as it would be on a warm/hot day.

There are three things that control temperature output: Incoming water temp, how much gas you can output, and water flow. - For gas output, Australia does have a regulation on how much gas we can output, and we're right on that limit. - For incoming water, as mentioned, cold days have much cooler water coming into the HOTTAP. Having said that, you can recirculate the water and get much hotter temperatures. - For water flow, you can lower the water flow a little bit more, and this will increase the temperature. If you reach out to our support team at support@joolca.com.au, we have a quick guide on how to do this!

I hope this helps!

Thanks, Emre

Brand new Joolca V2. Just doing a test run before camping in 2 days time. House tap water connection, very good pressure. All connected, no clicking (piezo operation ), at all when operating the shower on switch. 'Flame not lit' Led on panel flashes the whole time. Tried brand new batteries, but obviously with the Flame not lit LED flashing, its not batteries, but tried anyway Just in case it was gas bottle related I tried 3 different gas bottles of varying gas levels - no difference in the LEDs or operation regardless of whether gas is turned on or off... The fact that nothing changes whether gas is on or off leans me to thinking no gas getting to unit ??? Anyone help ??

Joolca
Joolca   DM

Hey Scott, I'm sorry to hear that your HOTTAP isn't igniting and I'm also sorry that I couldn't get to your question sooner before your trip. I hope you still had a great trip, and we'll get your HOTTAP sorted so that you'll have hot showers for your future camping.

You mentioned a few things here (piezo not working, HOTTAP not igniting) and it would be best to get a video of the issue to give you the most accurate steps forward. Could you please email support@joolca.com.au with a video? Once we've got the video we'll be able to offer you some accurate steps forward.

That being said, I do have a few steps to try in this article: external link  1. Change batteries (you said you did this, would it be possible to change to another new pair? If the batteries are flat, they will turn the LED monitor on, but not trigger the HOTTAP ignition process). 2. Purge your gas line

I hope the above helps. If they don't, please send that video to the email and we'll look after you.

Warm regards, Emre

Having issues getting my Hottap to light, and I'm stumped on a solution. Worked perfectly for a few months, now I get nothing. When I turn on the water flow (plenty of pressure, it's the same pump that supplies a house) I get the clicking from the piezo but no clunk for gas. If I unhook the gas line and try again, I get the clunk just fine. Replaced the regulator and hose, new batteries, cleaned everything that's cleanable, tried a different gas bottle... gas plugged in, nothing. Gas unplugged, clunk. With the gas line unplugged, there's definitely gas coming through from the bottle. Help?

(Only thing I can think of is that both gas bottles I tried are about half full, but I'm loathe to spend more money on getting a new one when it probably won't change anything, and if it stops working when the bottle is less than 2/3rds full it's obviously not working right anyway.)

Joolca
Joolca   DM

Hi Nathan, I'm very sorry to hear that your HOTTAP isn't igniting. I appreciate all of the information you've provided and the effort you've gone to with troubleshooting your HOTTAP, it really does help. Generally, if you're not getting a "clunk" this means that the gas solenoid inside is not engaging to let the gas pass through for ignition. The solution for this is to try a new gas hose and to change your batteries to a new set (this is usually the solution), however, you've mentioned that you've done those steps. I think it may be best for us to get your HOTTAP back to us for a replacement. If you email support@joolca.com.au and send a video of the fault, the team will help organise to get a replacement HOTTAP sent to you. Again, I'm very sorry for the issue with your HOTTAP, and we'll work to make this right for you.

Warm regards, Emre

Hi there,

Is it possible to override the gas flow to get a bit more heat output from the unit? I'm assuming there is a way to rig that valve for a bit more juice?

I'm finding the heat output a little underwhelming even in contrast to my cheapo $180 Gasland unit. I'm not looking to turbo the thing but +10% more heating would go a long way. Thanks for any help.

Gasland is the pick of all hot water systems Very disappointing joolca it's nowhere near as hot

My Joolca lights but only burns, and heats the water briefly. Then water goes back to cold and it doesn't re-light. I see other comments about adjusting the 'high flow'. If I take it apart to adjust that, do I adjust it up or down to help it stay lit?

Joolca
Joolca   DM

Hey mate, do you find that your HOTTAP is hitting 50C? If so, there is a safety feature built into the HOTTAP, where it automatically flames out after hitting 50C+. You'll either need to adjust your water flow dial higher, or your gas dial lower. The adjusting High Flow may help, but it's not something we actively recommend. If the above doesn't fix your issue, please email support@joolca.com.au, and we'll get you sorted there! Cheers, Emre

Leigh P.

When mine was working it always flamed out at 48deg on the dial then wouldn't relight unless turned off to cool down

jrockemsockem
jrockemsockem

Mine gets to about 90 degrees and then the 'no flame' light starts blinking and the water turns cold.

Joolca
Joolca   DM

Hi jrockemsockem, When you say 90 degrees, do you mean Celcius or Fahrenheit? 90C is extremely hot, I don't believe our HOTTAP units can reach that temperature. If you did mean 90C, please send an email to support@joolca.com.au with the subject line "90C HOTTAP - Attn Emre" and I will look into this for you personally. If you meant 90F, then it could be a wind issue. Try setting up your HOTTAP in a sheltered space and see if the issue repeats.

Cheers, Emre

90F. It happens indoors as well. I've contacted Joolca Support and they're having me send the unit to them. Thanks for your help.

Our unit will ignite but won't stay lit. We have checked and change gas bottle and lines. And tried with both joolca pump and household mains

David

So when your system is lit how long does it run for before it turns off. The Joolca has a temperature shut off for protection. I think it is about 52 degrees C. Try running a lower heat to see if it operates longer. If not contact customer service they are very good.

We set up our Joolcar HWS yesterday and was very impressed we had a great shower it was used to do the dishes several times during the day. We were awoken at 5 in the morning to the pump running on its own without the taps being turned on consequently the pump overheated and is not pumping as it should. Once it had cooled we turned it back on and it won’t turn off automatically when we operate the hand held switches. We are only on the 2nd day of our long awaited holiday on a isolated campsite just north of Coral Bay with NO shower.

Joolca
Joolca   DM

Hi Lilly, thank you for reaching out and I am very sorry to hear about your pump. The pump can turn on if there is a pressure drop in the line, generally with a leak, but it should not be running continuously like that unless it's pumping water.

If you reach out to support@joolca.com.au, could you also elaborate on your setup so we can try to identify the issue? The team there will get this issue sorted for you and ship you out a new pump ASAP.

Warm Regards Emre

Hi guys purchased a V2 unit just before Easter 2021. The first unit leaked internally so returned to RTM FOR replacement unit .Second unit works well , except in a slight breeze it flames out. So built metal cabinet to reduce wind .This helped but still the flame went out . Tested in my workshop ,worked well with out fault. So built small shelter around metal cabinet ,an with slight breeze it still goes out . Any suggestions ,Thanks Peter Anderson ,Bundaberg.

Joolca
Joolca   DM

Hey Peter Thanks for reaching out mate and sorry to hear about the issues. It does sound a bit odd here.. The V2's are MUCH more robust in the wind than the V1's, so really you shouldn't be encountering wind issues at all, let alone in a breeze. At the moment, my best guess is that your flame sensor might be too sensitive. If you could reach out to support@joolca.com.au and attention me (Emre) in the email, I'll get this issue sorted out for you. Speak soon Peter.

Warm Regards Emre

Hey Peter Sorry for the late response mate! Yep I can send you through a guide to adjust the flame sensor if you wanted to give that a go. I can send it via email. Again, best thing to do is email support@joolca.com.au and attention me and I'll flick that guide over to you.

Warm Regards Emre

Hey guys, due to a loose gas connection, the wiring inside my Joolca has been burnt and it no longer works. All I need to fix it (only got to use it twice) is a new wiring harness so I can swap it out with the burnt one.... do you have just the wiring harness available so I can fix mine??

Does pumping up to 30M away result in any loss in longevity of pump vs. 20M? At 20-30M of hose length will the pump provide enough PSI and flow rate to trigger the burners? Lastly, do the burners turn on with the lowest flow rate setting? It sounds like they need a high flow at first, and that would be a bit awkward to say the least.

Thanks

Riley Tolmay
Riley Tolmay

Would suggest at 30M it may be an issue with the burner lighting at a low setting. For sure the lighting of the burner is better at low settings with less hose. If everything is well sealed and the header supply is influenced by gravity the system works well regardless of setting. But if things are not well sealed it impacts the initial lighting of the flame when turning taps on and off.

Joolca
Joolca   DM

Hi Jman! 30m of hose will be no issue igniting the burners. We advertise up to 30m, so you'll be good to go. There will be no loss in longevity of the pump either. The burners should turn on at both low and high flow settings, and actually it's easier for the HOTTAP to ignite on the lower flow settings. Hope this helps :)
