DO NOT BOOK this trip. It is not worth it and it is a total rip off. Terms and conditions are NOT true and you will waste and lose your money. STAY CLEAR OF THE INDIAN PACIFIC.

The Indian Pacific is NOT worth taking!! We have just completed our trip which started 28th January. Been on 3 European and 1 Canadian train trip. I consider myself well travelled. Those who organise the schedule for the Indian pacific should be… Read more

dismissed.

Below are the excursions that should have made a train fun & entertaining, but their cancellation made the trip a disaster

My partner and I paid good money and only got to get off the train once! The Broken hill stop was skipped because we were running late. Adelaide winery excursion was cancelled AND changed to a japanese restaurant because we were also running late. Rawlinna sheep station excursion was cancelled because.......we were running late. The only time off the train was the Cook ghost town. Were originally told we had 30 mins, but we were called back after only 15!! Yes, a 15 min "excusion". and.... Obviously the dinner under the stars in Cook was also cancelled.

Imagine 4 days & 3 nights on a train with only a 15 min break!!

THEN One morning the train ran out of water, YES ran out if water. Toilets couldn't be flushed, couldn't take showers and could use the sink. In the evening, the aircon broke in 2 carriages meaning a night for approx 30 people sweating in bed, unable to sleep.

The speaker system in half the carriages failed which meant important announcements were completely missed!

Oh My GOD!!! what else could go wrong? Well.....for us, arriving late in Perth meant missing our flight back to Sydney. For others, it was missing a tour to Rottness Island.

While upset about the aircon, speaker system & the water, those are things that are technical and out of human fault. But again, scheduling is the MAIN thing on a cruise or train trip. Passengers were annoyed and taking it out on the onboard staff. We highly disapprove of such behaviour, specially since the staff couldn't do anything about the issues nor was it their fault. We'd like to congratulate barman Nick, dinning room waitress Debbie and manager Taira for their service and exceptional professionalism. We booked through flight Centre and took out insurance. Insurance did NOT cover any of our issues. So, Needless to say, we are not ever, ever, ever doing the Indian pacific again nor any of the other trips (e.g. the Ghan, etc) by the same company At almost $10,000, that was a very expensive way to get to Perth. My name is Jeff Santry

Follow-up  · The food was admittedly excellent. It was akin to meals served in 5 star hotels. There was more than one could consume and there were always snacks available. Sleeping was very comfortable although a little tight. Mattress medium density with a choice of soft, medium and hard pillows. The top bunk is much narrower than the bottom one. Both… Read more

Sydney to Perth and return trip. Departure Sydney Central. Stress free embarkation we were met by staff checked in and then a beautiful welcome drinks at a cafe exclusively for guests. On boarding a warm welcome by train staff. Whole trip was excellent, food, bar scenery. All crew extremely caring and service A1. The included off train tours were fantastic 5 Star without doubt. Highly recommend. David Show details

I travelled from Perth to Sydney on May 31st this year on the Indian Pacific. I was a single traveller and I travelled in Permium Gold as I wanted my own en suite .The tour took 5 days 4 nights and I found the experience was brilliant the tours were… Read more

fantastic and the food onboard was delicious and I complement the chefs and the crew were unbelievable they could not do enough for you and I found them very helpful m. I am planning to do another train journey with journey beyond on the Gan next year and I am looking forward to it.

Follow-up  · Cabin space is compact but adequate for the journey. The best tour was in broken hill but all the tours were very good and entertainment was adequate. I am now looking forward to my next trip on the Ghan in November next year.

I journeyed on the Indian Pacific from Sydney (flying from Brisbane) to Perth in a single gold class cabin with a tour group. I thoroughly enjoyed the train trip and the off train experiences that were on offer. Staff on the train were well trained and friendly and the Chef did a great job with the meals. I have given the experience 4 stars… Read more

because the Indian Pacific is classed as an all inclusive trip which means all alcoholic drinks are included in the price. There are drinkers and non drinkers. I am a non drinker and I don't like the idea that I am paying for someone else's alcohol. All Journey Beyond train trips have the same rule. I don't see how this is fair pricing.

Working at Journey Beyond is a masterclass in poor leadership and mismanagement. The management team is disorganised, unprofessional, and completely out of touch with frontline staff. Schedules are changed with no notice, communication is inconsistent at best, and decisions are made with zero logic or accountability. Staff are treated as… Read more

replaceable, morale is constantly low, and burnout is ignored. Concerns raised by employees are routinely brushed off or met with hostility. Instead of creating a supportive environment, management fosters a culture of fear, blame, and confusion. Professionalism is clearly not a priority. Favouritism runs rampant, training is rushed or non-existent, and any attempt at improvement is quickly squashed under the weight of egos in charge. Journey Beyond presents itself as a luxury brand—but behind the scenes, its chaos held together by overworked, undervalued staff. Avoid working here unless desperation is the only option. Some team members are friendly and there are occasional travel perks, but they’re not worth the toxic management and lack of job security. The management is disorganised, HR is unresponsive, and staff are let go without warning or explanation. There's no support, poor communication, and a complete lack of respect for employees.

I flew to Perth from Melbourne on March 21, 2025, stayed a night in Perth, and prepared to join the Indian Pacific on the Saturday. Saturday arrived, and I received a call to say that there had been an incident on the Nullarbor. I wasn’t provided any information, other than that, and was told the trip was cancelled and you’ll get a refund in a few… Read more

weeks. I have never heard from Journey Beyond again. I think this is disgusting public relations, and demonstrates disdain for customers. Never again! I asked about reimbursement for costs incurred going to, and staying in, Perth, and they couldn’t answer the question and I have not heard from them since. How shameful

Train wreck. From Sydney (bus from Lithgow) to Perth, we were to have multiple excursions and experiences. One excursion only for the entire trip. Adelaide. The only choice provided was a tour of the market and dinner afterwards. Arrived at 8pm, market shuts at 5! Compensation - $125 for one cancelled excursion. Their excuse “it is in the… Read more

T&C’s”. One lie after another about why everything was cancelled. $6k down the drain. I only gave 1 star because it won’t allow any less.

No refund policy, even if there is a death in the family, because you (and I quote) 'should have travel insurance' to claim back. We do have insurance but still disgusted that they will sell the cabin again and receive 2 payments for 1 cabin but not refund... Companies like this are why our premiums keep increasing Show details

OK in some ways but could be a lot, lot better – We did Adelaide-Perth, gold class twin. Did this trip with ANR decades ago and it was obviously run by amateurs; Journey Beyond have preserved this tradition. Pros: staff were great, cabin was v clean, comfortable, well equipped, food generally v good except the vegan, bar is well stocked, coffee is good. Cons: track is v rough in places, sleep… Read more

difficult/impossible due to bumps, clunks and noise. We had friends in platinum class and because of the stupid train layout (power cars and kitchens in the middle, these cars are impassable; gold at front of train, platinum at rear) we could never see them. Stop at Cook was absurd: train stopped in Cook for an hour, not allowed off, then train moved 1/2 mile out of Cook, then allowed off in the searing heat. Stupid. Our vegan friend in platinum had gone to lots of trouble to advise of dietary needs but the lazy chefs served fried tofu and salad for every meal! Do NOT go platinum: not worth it. Train has wifi in every carriage but passengers can't access it!! The only wifi was in lounges and was lousy. Journey Beyond isn't really customer focused. For the price this experience was very disappointing.

Journey from hell – For a year planned holiday. 17 day cruise, then back on the Indian Pacific. 90 years old final wish. 3 hour bus ride to Lithgow, due to high attitude and different air, became slightly breeathless. Train staff decided not to allow passengers to travel. Kicked off the train, parted from luggage. Staff showed no compassion or empathy. It is… Read more

negligent not to have Health care staff on such a long journey. After lodging complaint, staff constantly stated that it was the traveler who was at fault. Fee re funded . But dream destroyed.

Excellent in all points except the sleep factor – We travelled from Sydney to Perth in November in Platinum Class. The food, the service, the staff and the off train experiences were all excellent. The only reason I have rated this 3 star is because we got very little sleep. 1. because the ride was very rough particularly the leg from Sydney to Broken Hill. 2 the temperature in the cabin was very… Read more

cool but we had been warned about this in the pre journey literature so can't say we weren't warned. However, the bed was made up each night with the doona only coming half way up the bed and there was an icy breeze coming down from the ceiling right onto our faces. We went to bed every night wearing the bathrobes provided, eye masks over our eyes and the sheet over our faces. This at least kept us warmer but the rough ride made long term sleep almost impossible. We spoke to several other couples with the same sleep deprivation issues. Such a shame for an otherwise brilliant service.

An experience I can say I have done, cannot recomend – Service & food was great. The platinium room was cold and cramped, and the train ride rough. Most passengers could not sleep, especially on the NSW leg of the trip. The room was so cold we had to spend most of our time in the dinning carriage, which was more pleasant
