2 year old loves it as a bed away from home and a cubbyhouse – I bought this for when my 2 year old god daughter came to stay with me. I first introduced it to her as a cubby house and she instantly loved it. I rolled up all the windows so she could see out. She took her baby stroller in there and doll to play. She also loved playing peek a boo. I was deciding between the bill and teds one or this one. I am… Read more

glad I picked this one as she can use it during the day as a cubby house and would take her toys in there (it kept all the mess contained). I would then take it to the bedroom for sleep time. I set up the sleeping bag and gave her a little pillow (I got off the plane). It is much bigger than I was expecting. You could easily use it until the child is 4 or 5. They can't completely stand up in there but that didn't seem to bother her at all. She was mainly sitting down to play or lying down to sleep. When I had to put her down to sleep she loved going in and putting herself into the sleeping bag. It is easy to pack up once I watched the video online. It folds down small enough to pop into a suitcase if you are going overseas. We live in Brisbane so the weather is reasonably hot and she didn't sweat in it but I left all the window flaps up and just left the netting down. I think it is well worth it and so glad I bought it. Light weight, folds up and down easy and quick, light enough to take in a suitcase A window up the top of the cot (like a skylight) would be good

Excellent – Love this product - it's great to keep in the car to have somewhere for baby to sleep when you're at a friend's place or if they're being babysat by someone who doesn't have suitable cot. So easy to use - was able to open and close it first go and none of the babysitters have had problems either. We took the KinderKot camping with us at Christmas… Read more

time - was perfect set up inside the 6 person tent (and meant that when our tent leaked she was the only one who stayed dry!) and took up hardly any space in the car that was filled with camping equipment - we would never have fit an ordinary portacot. Cannot say enough good things about this product - I'm always going around recommending this to friends with babies as a better alternative to standard portacots. Wonderful product! So small and compact and easy to open and close. Weighs next to nothing and takes up almost no space when folded. Very roomy for when baby gets older (my 2.5yo nephew can fit very comfortably) and can double as a play area to keep baby contained. The sheet and sleeping bag should have 4 velro points rather than just the 2 as my daughter is a wriggler and manages to push all bedding away but other than that no issue as all.

Fantastic option! – We love the KinderKot and so does our baby. He first slept in it around 5 months old and we have never had any problems (he's now 15 months). We plan to use it when we go overseas soon because it fits in our luggage bag with still enough space to pack everything else in. It is light and once you get the hang of how to pack it back up (we watched… Read more

the video on their website a few times) we had no problems. I like the idea that when hes a bit older it'll feel like a cubby house when we are away from home. He already likes crawling over to it and crawling in and out. Reliable, not too expensive, quick and easy to put up and down (when you get the hang of it, recommend watching video on website), don't have to lean over a side rail to put baby in (I find it easy to kneel down on ground to put bub in and it doesn't hurt your back this way) and if bub is having trouble sleeping you can lie down next to the Kinderkot and put your hand in to pat them to sleep. The only things we have found are the same as other reviews. The cotton sheet only has velcro at two ends which means it bunches up and bub ends up with his head directly on plastic which is sweaty and uncomfortable for him. We didn't opt to put inflatable mattress inside as I was worried about bub getting caught underneath it if he pulled it up. We just bought two more strips of velcro and sewed/glued them on to cotton sheet/base of KinderKot at either side of the long edges and it worked like a dream. No probs folding back up afterwards. Also, if its hot, like the middle of summer, inside the Kinderkot will be even hotter (like any other tent) so need to keep all flaps open, dress bub lightly and make sure there is a small breeze to push air through tent, either use a fan or place near open window/door.

Good idea, bit noisy – Good idea, easy to put up/down, much better than a traditional portacot but the sheet thing doesn't quite work. It's stuck with Velcro in just 2 places- needs to be all the way around. When the sheet moves, then it gets noisy. We used our own sheet - works ok with a cot size fitted sheet. Good until 2-4 years.

Handy transportable bed. Cosy in the cool, too warm in the heat. Not perfect but good for camping an – This portable cot is darkened so helps inside a tent when its not dark enough. Can also have a cloth draped over. Does get warm so is not great for warm weather but cosy for trans-seasonal temperatures. My baby was a tummy sleeper and was great for him. well.

It's got quite good length in it too although it looks small. Probably good to about 3 years.

The kids would argue over who got to go in the Kinderkot at times. Probably wouldn't suit a fussy child though.

I made a cotton sheet to fit the oval shaped inflatable mattress. I don't like the sleeping bag because it's synthetic like most sleeping bags but you don't have to use it.

Would never use a "traditional" portacot now! – This is the best portacot design I have ever seen or used- would never buy a regular portacot after using this. It is super lightweight and compact- you can carry it on your shoulder with your nappy bag it's so light and compact- or take it to a friends house for naps. It is also extremely easy to set up- literally takes seconds, and easy to fold-… Read more

if you read the instructions the first time to make sure you get it right, it is very simple and only takes seconds to fold (unlike other portacots which can be quite tricky). It is fully enclosed with a zip which is great if you are concerned about insects or animals. Because of the design (with the mattress in a separate compartment underneath) you cannot tuck blankets under your young baby- though as we used either wraps or baby sleeping bags this was never an issue.

We bought this for our first child and started using it from 3 months (our first holiday) and now 3 years later she still loves sleeping in it so much that we have had to purchase a second portacot for our second child! Both children have slept well in it from an early age. The only downside was that I did have a problem with a leaking mattress and the company was almost impossible to contact- took me months of constant phone calls and emails before I got a response- then they were most helpful and mailed a replacement mattress free of charge within the week. For this reason alone we decided to purchase an alternative brand for our second child- the Childcare Travel Luxe Dome- almost identical to the KinderKot except with extra mesh ventilation, although lacking the sheet (only comes with a sleeping bag- we made a sheet for it). very lightweight, compact, extremely easy to set up and fold, fully enclosed, can be used for kids up to 4 years old Company very difficult to contact, cannot using blankets for bedding

great concept – I bought this for $130 with the plan to take it camping with us. We tried it a few times but bub won't have a piece of it. He doesn't like being zipped up inside it. Wish my child liked it! – This is quite a handy product but my young one really did not like being put into it after about 5 months. I think she had a problem being 'zipped inside'. Really portable and useful...just not for long (in our case). Opening and closing the zip is a bit noisy and impractical. Great to throw in the back of the car. Relatively easy to erect and pack up. Not good for claustrophobia. Not he most breathable mattress.

Better cot in concept than in practice – The kinderkot claims to be a better easier alternative to a travel cot. It is very portable and quick to set up, easier than many cots. We only used our a handful of times but each time it got too hot inside the tent so we had to open the flaps, which meant out crawled bubs. Portable, quick to set up and comparable in price to other travel cots. It got way to hot inside. Made a better play tent than bed. Show 2 replies

Good – The perfect portable cot if you do alot of travelling, my daughter (now 16 mths old) sleeps very well in it. I HATE the supplied sheet, It doesn't stay in place at all, and makes baby very sweaty and hot if it moves. so I took the advice of others here on this site, and put a cot sheet over the mattress and put the mattress inside the cot instead,… Read more

despite manufacturers advice, but the mattress fits very snuggly inside the cot, so is not too bad for an older child. Have not used the sleeping bag yet. Also beware as it is low to the floor, other children can gain access and they seem to think it is a toy, not a cot, daughter has been woken a few times by older children trying to climb in when she has been asleep in it. Overall though, a great portable cot. Very portable. Lightweight. Easy to clean, and easy to assemble once you learn how to. Great price (I bought mine from Baby Bunting, $129) Gets very hot inside during warm weather if you close all the 'windows' the sheet is absolutely useless, it moves and can get tangled up with the child. Not safe.

Excellent – This has been a great cot for traveling, we have had no troubles taking in on a plane as carry on baggage. The material is easy to wipe down spills etc. Don't lose the instructions because there are some steps to putting it down properly. Easily opened, it sprigs open so ensure bub is not near by. found that they held their value and it was better to simply purchase a new one. This is a super light and compact travel cot. We purchased it because our traditional style porta cot was heavy and bulky. My 18 month old loved the novelty of the cot. You can make it as dark or as light as you like by playing around with the tent style window coverings. It can get quite warm inside if it is all closed up.

OK – Great product but wouldn't recommend because I have tried for 4 months to contact the company to get a replacement mattress (hole near valve has made mattress useless)and there has been no response. I refuse to pay another $150 for another complete tent, simply wastefull. Compact, lightweight great travel accessary Really bad Customer Service Thinner mattress than the peapod (similar product sold in North America)

Excellent – My son doesn't easily settle so it is great that it didn't take him long to get used to sleeping in this portacot. Easy to fold (once learnt)

Comes with self inflating mattress and with junior sleeping bag

Great online support (website shows a video of how to fold it!)

Black one in particular good for keeping bub asleep Can't use the sleeping bag for bubs under 18 months, and for safety reasons shouldn't put a blanket in there either, so need to make sure bub has warm enough clothes.

OK – Easy to assemble and very portable in theory. My self inflating mattress won't deflate. I have tried to contact the company without success to see if there is something I can do. Portability. Can not get the self inflating mattress to deflate and have tried to contact the company without success.

Terrible – I have used it very few times and would not recommend it. We were looking for a light and still confortable portacot as we are travelling a lot. Both my kids didn't like it and seems like they were getting claustrophobic inside. Light and easy to carry. Good option for going out in the park and you want to keep an eye on your baby while playing It gets very warm in it and noisy when you try to open or close it.

Bad – I sold this as it was not practical. Looked and sounded great but not practical at all. Traditonal portacots far better Small and lightweight. It was noisy to zip up and my baby would wake when zipped/unzipped. So very noisy and mattress uncomfortable. Difficult to keep moving baby in it and stay settled. My baby did not like at all.

Terrible – if you are happy for your child to sleep on the plastic floor then it may be okay. we returned the kinder kot to the retailer. after demonstrating the problem they immediately provided a refund very light and easy to travel with. sheet is very dangerous and represents a strangling hazard. our child immediately became wrapt in the sheet after just a few minutes.

Excellent – Excellent alternative to bulky portacot. Took overseas in lugguge for my 2.5 year old. So every kilo counted. She fits comfortably and better than using portacots supplied by hotels. Very light and compact, easy to assemble, excellent for travelling. Fits in suitcase. Great sleeping bag. Sheet is pretty useless. Toddlers can get out by unzipping the zips but it shouldn't be used to lock a child in anyway!

Excellent – In short we love our KinderKot! It's definitely one of the best things we've bought for bub and would recommend it to others. settling with ease! Also because it's tent like (ie fully covered) we've been able to use it even in rooms that are bright. I do think the fitted sheet can be designed a bit better though. Very happy with it otherwise. light weight, mozzy net, easy portability, easy access to bub, easy setup and pack up, tent like design provides darkness for bub to go into sleeping mode. sheet provided is useless as it only attaches by valcro on top and bottom end, and an active bub like ours just pulls it around sleeps on the plastic anyway. Also our active 8 month old often rolls to the edge and collapses the KinderKot a bit as it is so flexible.

Excellent – This travel bed was excellent while camping as it fitted in well in a six-person tent and has good sturdy flyscreens. Good sturdy fabric and folds up easily into a small bag. Great for camping or overnight stays. The sheet that comes with the travel bed does not stay put so it can get a bit hot for a child sleeping in there.

Excellent – Choice magazine rated this product very well and must agree with them. Great for camping, hotels & travelling. For day & night use. All enclosed so no fear of bugs etc. Worth every penny!! So light and actually portable!! Fabulous for newborn and now she is 14months and loves it. Easy to pop up and once you master the folding away only takes a few seconds. Can be noisy, sheet is useless but we use our own sleeping bag for bub.

Good – Fantastic product!! I was very sceptical of how a portacot could only weight 3kg, good price and a cot that babies would sleep in, but I just love it. unfold the strap around the cot it just pops straight open. Very easy to fold, I was able to fold it first go and I am not normally very good at folding these type of things (youtube.com does a great demonstration on how to fold). I started getting my 5 month old daughter used to sleeping in it by having her morning sleeps in the cot in her room. The air mattress is comfortable and very easy to blow up. It is not a big cot, good in length but not height so children would not be able to stand up in it. Zips from the outside so children are not able to get out of it, which is good for little escape artists. I wont be using the sleeping bag yet but the carry bag is big enough to place your own blanket and sheet in if you remove the sleeping bag, so when you go out it is all ready to go. I went against what the manafacturer said and placed the matress on the inside of the cot as the very thin sheet that come with the cot is only attached by velcro at the ends and my daughter was pulling it up by the sides so it would be easy for the babies/kids to become sweaty. So I place a thin blanket and cot sheet over the mattress and placed it in the cot, no different to other portacots. Be careful when you open it as it pops open very quickly so DO NOT have any children around when doing it. It is flimsy similar to small tents so I would not have young babies in the cot when around kids or toddlers, could fall straight onto baby. It does lay straight onto the ground which I dont mind but may not be suitable for grandparents etc to be getting down on the ground etc to get or settle baby. You can use tent pegs with it if you use it outside but they are not included. I do leave the vents open when she is asleep as I think in summer it could become very hot in there so you would need to be aware of weather and need an air conditioner.

Excellent – We have just returned from a weekend of camping, using the Kinderkot for the first time. I loved it - it was so versatile! also great - it was like her own little tent. We took it down to the beach and kept her cool in the shade. Overall, I am so happy we bought this. I couldn't think of any better portable cot solution. Very compact and easy to use (goes from a good-sized cot to a small package in a couple of quick folds). Excellent for camping - a great place to put baby when you're setting up camp and need to keep her out of the dirt, and great for overnight sleeping. Great for the beach or other outdoor areas, so long as you can find some shade and keep the airflow going. It does get a bit hot inside, but I don't think any covered portacot could keep baby cool unless there was an actual fan! The sheet provided doesn't stay in the one place as it is secured only by two bits of velcro. The zips on the inside are quite appealing to curious little hands!

this cot because we were travelling interstate and didnt want to rely on a hire cot. It took a couple of goes for our son to get used to it (we started with a couple of day sleeps at home) but he now loves it and sleeps perfectly every time. Putting it back together is really really easy once you get the knack - trully it is... The Kinderkot website even has an instruction video to help you. I also looked at the Phil & Teds cot, but this one is much easier to manage. Our son had no problems with being "enclosed" in this cot as he sleeps in his pram under a sunshade cover which has similar effect. The mattress is designed to fit into a sleeve underneath the cot, however the inner of the cot is vinyl which is not great for sleeping on in hot weather (very sweaty). We overcame this by using a sheet over the mattress (any fitted cot sheet will work) and putting the mattress inside the cot instead. We also use sleeping bags for our son in his normal cot, so not other "bedding" was necessary. The mattress fits very snuggly so I was comfortable about doing this from a sids perspective. The sleeping bag is polyester (not my cup of tea for kids bedding) and not recommended for use until your child is 18mths + for safety reasons.

more cot like and baby can see out the top, but after struggling with it in the baby shop for 20 minutes I decided on the KinderKot. I know I'd get used to setting up the Phil and Teds but the KinderKot is just so simple to set up and when you're travelling simplicity is the key for me. I love it. This travel cot is great. I bought it as my partner travels a lot for work so occasionally we go along to visit. It is super light so I can fit it in the big suitcase and not add excess baggage when flying and it pops up really fast so there is no fiddling around when you get to your destination and you need to get your baby to bed. I love that the tent, mattress and bedding all fold into the small bag. I find it really easy to get up and fold down. Having to get down on the floor to pick up my baby can be a bit of a hassly but no more difficult than bending over a regular portacot I guess. We went away recently and where we were staying has wooden floors so it was a bit cold down on the floor but I just put an folded up wool banket under the tent and that helped.
