Very disappointed with our experience at Kumon. The teaching felt rushed, communication was poor, and there was little individual attention given to the child. For the fees charged, I expected much better support and progress tracking. It felt more like repetitive worksheets than actual learning support. Would not recommend based on our experience.
Kumon Kogarah: I have a little one currently in Kindy and i noticed that she writes inverted or mirror images of letters/ numbers, I came across Kumon and thought okay it would be a boost to her learning since i am so busy most of the time. I also watched the videos and what i thought is that they would make her sit and so some kind of practice… Read more
and also send workbooks home for additional homework.
So I sent an enquiry and they asked me to bring her for placement test, and she said she needs to practice a lot, she's a lot behind other students, and handed her worksheets. I tried asking her questions about how does this work etc, and she just handed me a form to fill, I filled it with the hopes that she would finally answer my questions, and all she did was gave me some workbooks to make my little one fill at home.
I was left feeling confused and thought to myself to give it a week, so i sat with her, and submitted the workbooks, she took her in for like 2 mins and gave me another workbook, and this went on for 2-3 sessions. She was barely made to sit in the centre. In-fact we were even scolded for doing home work at the centre(where parents sit). And i have no idea why she kept asking me to hold her hand to write the numbers, She can write numbers on her own, its just that the orientation is confusing for her.
Anyways after a week or so when we went to submit the workbook she demanded 260$ (100$ for enrolment and 160$ monthly fees), the 100$ enrollment fees was also not communicated by her BTW, by then i already made the decision to quit Kumon if all i had to do is pay 160$/month/per subject for repeated workbooks which i could have downloaded off the internet for free. So i refused to pay the enrollment fee, i would have paid the 160$ and left after a month.
I am so dissatisfied with Kumon, i would give it a zero stars if i could.

AVOID at all costs, no teaching happening here! – If I could give it 0 stars, I would. Kumon is absolutely terrible and my time at Hornsby Kumon is not one that I would recommend to anyone.. The teaching (there isn't any teaching), the worksheets are not at the level that my child needs and so your child will feel discouraged going there. Please send your child somewhere else and put your hard-earned dollars to better use.

Very unprofessional. It's shocking – [Name Removed] from Kumon Tarneit, Victoria, is too busy for her clients. Don't even have a manner to answer calls, text message, voice messages, and email. I took my daughter for assessment on 28th Feb, 2022, and I've received test results email on 2nd March. I thanked and replied her email on 3rd March, and requested her to advise me the next… Read more
steps and send me enrolment form and other necessary details. But to my surprise, I didn't hear anything from her. I waited for a week and called her on 09/03/22 she didn't answer the call right away. And when she returned my call after 3 hrs, I missed her call. And I called her back twice on 10th, the next day, as usual she didn't answer. And I called her back twice on 11th, and 12th, again same thing. Didn't answer my call. I sent her a text message on 12th stating the following...
"Hi [Name Removed], I've been trying to contact you since one week. Can you please suggest me a good time, when to contact you." Still no response.
I waited for another week and wrote to Kumon Head office, and suddenly I received 2 phone calls and 2 text messages from her.
It's simply not acceptable behaviour.

Both my children have been doing Kumon online for about 6 months. I have constantly received support and encouragement from Arti (Port Melbourne offices) and she has been amazing. She has called and messaged out of hours numerous times and she has always been so patient. I am so grateful for all that she done for my kids and how far they have progressed. Thank you so much for your time and your continuous support Show reply
Mastery of English and Mathematics. Yes, there are hard times, but the reward is a life-long complete mastery of the material. I did it, I worked as a tutor and helped other kids when I was older. It was fun to teach the material and see the younger kids grow confident. It was also amazing watching some kids that would be able to master material… Read more · 1
years in advance of what they would have had access to at school.
My children are doing it. I can not recommend it enough. Perhaps there are bad centres out there but ours is lovely and I completely stand by the workbooks.
Repetition is a crucial part of learning, and if you can do the work at speed with accuracy - you can move up through the material very quickly. If a child is stuck, it is also ensured that they will master their knowledge leaving no gap.
Also HIGHLY recommend for students with mild to moderate dyslexia/ dysnomia.
LifeSkills beyond academics – My son attended Kumon from age 8 and it had the most profound effect on the rest of his school years, university years and now into his career. Not only did this program set him up brilliantly academically, but it provided life skills that will stay with him forever. Show reply

We paid and we teach. Teachers are high schoolers and they just mark your works at the centre, then they give you more homework. Teachers including the centre in charge insult parents and kids in Cantonese and thought that kids don’t understand. Not a single time but many times. Don’t claim yourself as an educator! Still have some good sides… Read more
though. One of my kid who is self-disciplined does improved a lot but my another kid cried every time when she came out from the centre because it was too stressful. Trapping them in a centre for over an hour to finish the work is torturing. Even with good results, the experience is too bad. Every kid in the primary school say “I hate Kumon!”. How successful to leave a bad and sustained image to kids!!

Very disappointing experience. My son was placed at levels far below his ability and was denied reassessment despite clear concerns. The work was too easy and repetitive, causing frustration and emotional distress—he cried at the centre twice due to being put in a lower level. After months, there was no real progress, and our concerns as parents were dismissed. I would not recommend this centre.

my kid would come home everyday stressed and crying from the books of homework and horrible staff yelling at kids telling them they aren't good enough, my kid had multiple panic attacks and got diagnosed with anxiety. the teachers would yell and scream everyday and kids would still come if they were sick and got others sick, its overpriced as well 200 per month. dont send your kids to kumon.

Kumon is the worst – Kumon is horrible! L 1 Kumon dose not give your child time to do something they enjoy you have to do Kumon every single day even in the holidays and you are expected to finish them 2. College and sometimes they make mistakes and makes the child go like “ That is the answer isn’t it” and next time they will do something different so they make kids dumber all they care about is neat handwriting I mean once they wern’t even looking at me and said “ Neat handwriting “ 4. Why do they make the test stupid there are less questions and I got in big trouble for getting 76-90i mean that’s a great score right? 5. Toilet breaks if your in the middle of work and you really need to go to the toilet you have to re start your work sheet and you will get a long shout to the teacher if you need to sharpen your pencil 6. They tell you sometimes to put your stuff in the bin if they don’t like it I mean they put my pencil in the bin cuz it was a little bit too small 7. Sometimes if your done you have to put your work on a basket and wait for a teacher to come SOMETIMES THEY TAKE 20 Mins- 1 hour for them to get it 8. They don’t care if you have something else you have to finish it and also the corrections 9 the parents have to do everything and the teacher are freakin lazy 10. They have clock cuz you can write the time but like all of them are different what on earth at e you supposed to do look at one clock and they other they have Ike 10 plus clock there 11. The test bro even if you get all correct they don’t care if your time is over 15 min you have to re do 12. In English if you don’t know the questions they will just repeat it LIKE THAT WILL WORK I have so maney more but I won’t have time I hope 13 is enough

Kumon lacks good teachers who care – Unprofessional franchisees is the problem. Kumon is based on a franchisee business model. So when a problem is raised about a franchisee who is also head teacher, it can’t be solved. teacher who is rude, unprofessional, condescending and clearly doesn’t like children, it’s swept under the rug because $$$ means more to them. They don’t care about how a brand is ruined this way.
Nor do they care, that if there is very little checks and balances or overarching responsibility from Kumon head office, Kumon loses all credibility.

Highly recommend Kumon – My eldest has attended Kumon for 4 years. She loves it and is so excited when she goes up a level. She thrives on learning new things. This has been a complete change from when she started. The biggest change and thing I love about Kumon is the massive change in her concentration. She now has it as a daily routine and knows she just has to do it. Show reply
Hard work but worth it – We did Kumon for a few years while my daughter was in primary. Dishonest Organization – Kumon Truganina - I enrolled my child, in a Kumon center located in Truganina. Unfortunately, a fire occurred, resulting in the closure of the center. one month in advance for classes so I reached out to the owner, requesting a refund, which regrettably was denied. Instead, I was encouraged to enrol in online classes, an option that did not align with my preferences. Recently, I received an email notification indicating that classes were set to resume at a community center. In light of not receiving a refund, I decided to have my child attend the remaining classes, viewing it as a resolution to the matter.
Upon contacting the owner to confirm this decision, I initially encountered resistance in acknowledging the existence of remaining classes for my child. Eventually, it was communicated to me that while I could collect worksheets, my child would not be permitted to enter the classroom. Additionally, it was clarified that the payment was primarily for the worksheets, and attendance in the classes was restricted to students who were resuming their regular sessions.
I must express my concern regarding recent communications wherein the terms and conditions of Kumon's operation have been misrepresented. As a paying customer, I expect transparency and integrity in all interactions.

about other kids but when doing a math test i put my elbows on the table and what does that have to do with your education. I also find it a waste of money and a way to make children cry once i started crying so i went to the bathroom do you know how much people who were also crying in there? they put you on a lower level I am in year 6 and the books I am getting are 2+2 that makes me feel insecure about how smart I am not the mention the constant yelling from the staff. I would never make my kid traumertised like i felt.

home crying, and a 3 minute one on one session with my mum made me understand it much better than 3 weeks of consistent crying over wrong questions.
the instructor also snitched on me to my mum because i didn't correct the mistakes on my my work ( i even tried to), WELL GUESS WHAT SHE ALREADY KNEW HAHA.
i also saw a boy stressing out, and bawling his eyes out because he forgot a question and couldn't answer it.
personally what yall need to do, is to help kids PROPERLY, it only takes 2-3 Minutes (or less!) to fully help them understand the formula, and the basics. instead of yelling at kids, or deliberately putting them down, OR telling them to look at the ugly examples that are for simple questions like 1+1, just help them. Unless i go there for 1 whole week without handing booklets, doing the questions, or even trying, then you cant yell at me or call my parents. the only good thing that came out of kumon was
....... oh yeah, nothing. just crying crying and more crying and extra stress
i rlly hope that all of the kumon locations improve to actually help students...
