A good washer if you know how to use it – I bought this LG 10kg washer in 2014, so it's been 9 years and I've had no issues. I use liquid not powder detergent which dissolves better, and warm water for a better clean. The issue with clothes tangled together is solved by manually increasing water to the next level as I found the machine to automatically select water which is not enough in… Read more
my opinion and that's how clothes get tangled. I later discovered by evenly distributing the clothes in the drum and not dumping all your clothes in one heap, this prevents tangling of the clothes. The lint issue was solved when I started cleaning the washer once per month as per the instructions. I use alot more bleach for the clean and I found that made a huge difference reducing lint and spots etc. However, the water is 'hard water', contributing to calcium deposits which will affect the washer's performance. I use a decalcifier like CLR once every 6 months in clean cycle. That gets rid of the calcium and any rust that may be there. Also, hard water requires a little more detergent for the wash to be extra clean. You can contact your local council to find out whether the water is hard or not. The rust issue did occur at the opening where you put the bleach in. I used rust dissolver and brushed some rust inhibiter. That stopped it. I think the reason for the rust is the salt air where I live near the beach. In anycase, it shouldn't rust and that is a negative for LG. If your clothes aren't as clean, do your regular monthly automatic washer clean. Also I recommend adding a little more detergent because detergent quantity (for large wash) is based on 7.5kg washer. This is a 10kg washer, so if you're doing a large load, you need to add around 1/3 more detergent to compensate. At the end of each wash, I leave the washer door open and detergent slider open for the whole day to let the inside dry. This helps prevent mould build up. Finally, I cover my washer with a large sheet to protect it from the elements. A little overboard perhaps, but hey.... it's going on 10 years and never had a problem with the washer. Look after it and it will look after you for a very long time. I hope this helps.
Best Machine Ever Purchased – This LG 10kg Smart Drum Washing Machine has been excellent and wonderful with no issues. The machine is 7 years old. Love the huge capacity, quiet, Slam proof diamond glass lid, 12 washing programs, water heater, 6 motion technology, inverter direct drive motor, jet spray rinse, delay start, the huge array of customisable washing options, hidden… Read more · 1
lint filter, water plus. At first, I enjoyed the special melody when you turn on the machine and when the cycle finishes but now I wish there was a way of turning it off. The cons of this are that the clothes do sometimes come out tangled if you select the STRONG option, but I think even if you don't select a washing power the clothes will still come out tangled.
Machine issues start showing early and service is slow – I bought the machine less than 5 years ago and trouble started by the 4th year, which is too early. I got leaks from the machine when water was emptied. A technician came but within half a year his fix failed and it leaks again. LG is taking their time to review if they should come and fix it, and have been dragging me now for 10 days, waiting… Read more
with lots of loads of laundry I cannot run. This is all added to issues other people wrote, which I agree to, that the lint gets stuck to sheets and cloths and you have to rinse them again wasting time and water, and that some materials, like tea towels, and pillow cases, got torn or got holes in them after being in the machine. I never choose strong cycles. I also think that the cycles are way too long. In my old Simpson machine from 20 years ago I could run a cycle in 45 min and get clean cloths no problem, and now in order to achieve same results I need to use more detergents, wait to soak cloths, and have longer cycles between 2.5-3 hours which makes it so inconvenient when you need to run more than one load.
Rusted – The top metal frame under the lid rusted above where you put the detergent. The machine was 3yrs old so LG would not cover it. A washing machine that rusts.... Eventually they did cover it under warranty but I had to put in more effect than it was worth and threaten them. Also fluff seems to come from nowhere and cover most clothes. Also it is rough on clothes. Very disappointing machine. Show details
Not the best – The clothes come our clean however it tangles EVERYTHING which does not bold well for the washing machine. Have resorted to putting most of the clothes in washing bags to try and preserve the life of my clothes . It is a large washing machine for its time however there are newer washing machines out there now. Show details
Worst most expensive machine I have purchased – I selected what I thought was the best machine on the market only to be totally disappointed. It tangles everything, takes 5 minutes to sort out the clothes as they are so tangled together. Then there is the washing it seems to somehow put fluff all over my clothes this has not happened with other machines I have owned. The electronics and… Read more
features are great just does not give me satisfaction when all my clothes are getting totally wrecked and tangled.
Computer smart isn't very smart – I am not overly happy with this machine. I bought it for its capacity and its ability to heat the water. However the cycle it heats on is so ridiculous as to be useless, if you want it to be useful you have to manually turn it off and on and fiddle with switches. Whatever recognises weight for the water levels is useless in practical terms, put… Read more
in a full load of polar fleece and watch level 1 come up (duh) or a few items that have been soaked in bleach before hand and are wet (heavy). I find I always have to fiddle with the water levels and generally add one to the level or stuff comes out soap stained. The lint complaints are also valid. I frequently have to re rinse items that have grime/lint marks. It is obvious a man designed this machine. If you have a cycle with a hot wash that means the rinses are all hot too - since when do you need hot rinses? So again I have to fiddle with water temperatures to save energy by cold rinsing because its been designed to rinse with the same temp as the wash. My next machine will be the ultra simple, so I can set wash and rinse temp water level etc. This machine in trying to be intelligent is exceptionally stupid! There are umpteen cycles but none make sense to me.
Fantastic – The best washing machine I have ever owned. Cleans and rinses our clothes very well. I have had the machine for almost a year now and have not have a problem with wearing-out of clothes. Relatively quiet (my other machine was a smaller sized Whirlpool and that was louder). Plus the drum is huge so we can easily fit donnas and bedsheets in there. I… Read more
have had a few items come out covered in lint but this is not repeatable so I think it was more to do with me not sorting the clothes correctly. We also got a great price after waiting for a sale through eBay.
I am happy – New Update after about 9 months.... I ended up get my old F&P fixed and it was only $120 This machine has been retired to my storeroom and I use it only for my major Spring cleans for my quilts which I am wrapped at the job it does do on them. I got sick of the long cycle time and seemed to be spending all day in the Laundry... It seems I do… Read more
lots of smaller loads and this machine is an overkill for my everyday washing.
I have had this machine for 3months now.
I have always like top loader machines for washing, towels sheets after my F&P died I was looking for a larger machine to do heavy work and to take Kingsize Wool Quilts.... So far I estimate that after washing 4 sets of wool underlays and Kingsize Quilts I have saved over $400 on dry-cleaning.... and this is why I bought this machine after a dry-cleaning disaster on our Quilts. This machine is large...
My top laoder also has to deal with us being farmers. Our clothes always have either Mud or Sand even manure sometimes through them.
This machine is handling the cleaning of these clothes with easy... (Mens 2 x Jeans, 2x shirts 2 jumpers plus underwear lint wool socks )is my normal load. I am not having lint issues as other have suggested, I always manually set the water level to ensure it higher than clothes, I am not afraid to wash with warm water either on strong wash...
I find smart wash with 2 rinses on water plus is fine. I use this for my towels & sheets as well. In old machine I had to do two loads to get both the ensuite and family bathroom towels done. Now it is one wash. They are fluffy unlike the stiff front loaders washed towels.
I have horrible bath matts which I hate as they have always left lint in both this machine and also old one... the old one I had to pull to pieces to get the lint out, this one I simply wiped the lint out the bowl with a cloth and the next load was fine. Much easier.
My delight came with this machine when my daughter came home from boarding school with 2 weeks worth of clothes and I need clothes all done quickly.. I was able to pile this machine and get through it quickly. I did not think it was tough on her clothes and they where clean when they came out.
If you pile clothes as the manual reads it they don't tangle.
I have a small front loader which does our delicate clothes... so I have not used this machine for that purpose.
This machine as been used daily if not twice daily since I got it...
I think lots of things determine a good wash and washing machine...
* Washing powder selection (I use omo and also Biozet)... I believe it unrealistic to expect these machines to get deep stains out with out first soaking and yes I will soak clothes with sard for half an hour if it a built up stain... I am however surprised at how clean some of our old clothes and rags are looking.
* You do need to sort clothes into lint givers and collector as it will cause problems no matter the machine
* Water... I believe you need quality water (Ours is rain) and excellent rinse cycles this machine does rinse well above two rinses. I like lots of water in machines as it water that helps wash and also to get good rinse. I do question how much I am using per rinses cycle and with water plus on. manual only said per main wash.
* This is a new way of washing and I think it does do a good job. Time is waisted watching it different modes through clear lid.
* I was annoyed as this machines not as quick as old machine, but I also must remember I am doing less loads. So it working out the same in reality.
* If you are short like I am (5ft)... you may run into problems getting the last sock out the machine as it is a high machine. I have always had a step in laundry so for the odd load it happens with it doesn't bother me.
I was afraid of buying a machine without an agitator and was warned not to... I had not issue, actually think it gentler on clothes.
It has taken me this long to get use to what cycles that I like to use. I have had disasters with liquid washing powders sudding to much. Trying to guess the water levels etc. I hated it for the first two weeks until I got use of machine.
I bought this machine as a work horse and I am hoping it will give us a good run.
LINT – By far the WORST washing machine I have ever used, clothes come out looking dirtier than when they go in, the apparently automatic lint filter is crap, as a result I have to dry clothes in a dryer to remove the lint..LG customer care centre is hopeless... We have been trying to get something done since August without any help from them at all, LG… Read more
advices us to use more water but the machine has a automatic water level system! Also turn all clothes inside out ( didn't work) use dishwashing tabs to clean machine ( didn't work) do a tub clean after ever wash ( didn't work and costing us time and money)
Are there not consumer law regarding this kind of stuff in Australia?
This is not fair at all, I just want a machine that cleans my clothes is that really too much to ask?
I hope LG reviews this post...
Love this big machine – I bought this machine in Feb 2015 after looking around for a big machine. I wanted a machine that would easily take 2 king size sheets without overcrowding the machine so they would wash properly. My previous machine was an Electrolux Eco Intuitive 8KG with central agitator and although it lasted 10 years and was very good, it could only clean… Read more
one sheet at a time. The LG easily takes both sheets and asks for more. This machine has cut the amount of loads I need to do as it holds so much thus saving a small fortune on laundry liquids. It's quiet, washes well, easy to use and has plenty of options if you don't like what the machine thinks it should do. I've noticed a lot of comments about lint. Yes, this machine doesn't get rid of all the lint, neither did my previous machine. What I've found with both machines is that they are "water saving" models. With their automatic water setting, they put very little water into the bowl (just enough to cover the clothes). These days I always manually adjust the water level higher. This will suspend the lint in the water properly and pump it out as what is suppose to happen. Low water levels allow the lint to get trapped on the washing. I don't believe the lint problem is a fault with the machine, its a fault with all water saving models. Other than that, I have no complaints about this machine. Its size and capacity is brilliant, It even looks fabulous, I love the little jingle it plays when the wash is finished. As I have had no problems at all with the machine and I think it works brilliantly, I would recommend the machine. I've taken off one star for the lint problem but it's easily overcome with some extra water in the wash cycle.
Agitated – I have worked for Electrolux and I Know products. This machine creates extra work and agitation. No lint filter, No AGITATOR that creates agitation from my wife that gets me agitated that clothes, towels bed linen does not get washed properly. I called LG ( LIFE NOT GOOD 4 HUSBAND) or LNG4H, that this machine is crap. They told me that we need… Read more
to use liquid instead of powder. Tried it, same, same. Called back and they tried to dismiss all faults with this machine.
No support, no interest, no service from LG.
My advice, LG needs to install an agitator to pull washing into the bowl to wash correctly so it does not agitate my wife sonit does not create agitation for the husband.
Get your agitator together LG AND CUSTOMER SERVICE.

No lint filter - what were they thinking? – Spend hours getting lint off clothes. High priced washer. LG why not put a filter on this instead of your bogus auto lint filtering system that's just a marketing fraud? Stick to DVD players. This could have been a great washer but you left off the most important feature. Dumb

"A Fantastic Washing Machine" – After much research, reading great comments, reviews and watching videos I decided on the LG 10kg top loader to replace our old 9kg Simpson. worries but you can put so much in it and save on doing less wash loads. I throw dirty work clothes in and everything comes out really clean and fresh. Easily washes a king size doona. It runs very quiet and does a fantastic job of washing the clothes and I've had no problem with any lint left on any clothes. I love all the great features on it and it is so simple to use, leave it on auto or easily adjust your wash cycles. I love the soft closing glass lid and the timer which tells how long to go until finish. I'm so happy I bought this LG machine and I highly recommend it. I got the best price and service from Appliances Online
Clothes come out worse than they go in – Lint, scrud, crap, you name it.. Washed ok for about 6 weeks, never great though. Cannot wash whites. Darks are covered in lint. Complete waste of money. I have tried every single tub clean, vinegar rinse, clean lint filter every single time. Tomorrow i am going to buy another washing machine.. Anything but lg. Absolute rubbish. Most expensive washer i ever purchased and by far the worst. Save your clothes and money, buy a different brand.
Customer service - They have never heard of it – I purchased this machine before Christmas. I called between Christmas and New Years because 1) It doesn't clean, even on the longest and hottest settings 2) If I don't pause and reset it sets EVERY load at 4 (high) water level...even if empty. I have contacted the dealer, Appliances Online several times now. I finally contacted Fair Trading 2… Read more
days ago and sent Appliances Online a copy of my complaint. Lo and behold they finally contacted me yesterday with this:
"First of all our sincere apologies for the delay with service and communication.
Our service department logged a service call with LG on the 12th January and in turn LG logged a service request with Newcastle Custom Appliance Repair on the same day.
I've spoken with Newcastle Custom Appliance Repair this afternoon, and have been advised they require further information about the fault before they attend.
Again I'm so sorry Tamara, I would have thought they would have called you themselves for that information when the request was first received.
Their service manager has requested I contact you to get further details on how the machine is not washing the clothes properly so he can get an idea of what the problem might be.
So could please provide more detail, or even pics, if you feel that could better illustrate your concerns, and I'll follow this through to get a resolution for you asap."
Apparently LG themselves and/or the repair shop are incapable of picking up a phone to contact me.

Is it wrong to be this in love with a machine? – I brought this machine just over 11 months ago and it hasn't missed a beat! I can wash my Super King sized doona with no worries at all. The clothes come out clean (front loader clean) and rinsed well. It has basically every option you could ever wish for (up to 5 rinses). Love the glass lid. machine! I love everything about this machine!! If you use the very high spin cycle it can leave clothes a little crumpled this is easily fixed by using a lower spin speed - I think this would be a problem with any machine.
Heater - two options only! "dissapointing" – I have had this machine for several months and its excellent - apart from "the heater" ! The heating option only works on two programs - Sanitary 60c & Stain care 40c - also it is restricted on these options to water level 2 maximum! This is very disappointing for me as I have solar electricity, so when I use hot wash (usually) the washer… Read more
drains all my hot water from the electric tank which charges at night on tariff 33. When I spoke with LG before purchasing this machine I was told it heated on six wash programs and there were no water level restrictions, I have since e mail LG but have had no reply. So - my warning to those with a large family is that this heater facility is very limited, actually it's such a shame for what otherwise is a fantastic machine - why have they restricted this facility?
LG - I would welcome your reply / opinion as to why you have restricted the heater function and water level function and spoil what is otherwise a fantastic machine. Cleans excellent - water options ( Heater- dissapointed) Heater works on only two programms, also water level with this heater option is restricted too!
lg top loader wt-r10856 – Only just had the new washer delivered today. We have come from a 19 year old Kleenmade 7.5kg loader. It was a great unit, but of late randomly leaking. machine, many settings, water efficient, call lid, stainless steel front. true levelling seems hard to get right on uneven floor. plastic feet cheap.
Excellent Machine for large family/heavy use – We have had this LG for a year now (bought it when it was the newest model in the store), wouldn't usually spend so much on a washer but after our poor experience with our previous machine (Simpson 9kg see previous review) I wanted to try something vastly different, it certainly is technologically advanced which at first made me wary, but it's… Read more · 1
proven to be easy to use & a real asset to the household with daily use, it has specialised settings for bulky items like bedding/pillows etc, good programming options for changing preselected cycles, it's not hard to get used too it at all, I only usually use cold water for washing so haven't used the heating option, it's quite quiet for its size & power, the lid being transparent hardened glass is a nice touch (we bought the silver machine) very modern looking. The bowl volume is enormous, especially since it has no agitator in the middle, clothes do tend to twist/tangle but not overly,( I've not had any clothes stretched or damaged), I'm only 5'3 so I do have difficulty reaching into the bottom of the machine for small items so if your short or elderly this size is probably to large, it is a water saving machine so I usually let it do its thing ie sense it's load & fill, if I'm not happy with the water level it's selected I just hit pause & adjust the water level manually with the appropriate button, particularly if I've opted for the load to soak for awhile. It's a very heavy machine (like a front loader ) so definitely need a couple of strong men to pick it up, probably better to pay extra & get it delivered & installed, LG customer care line was extremely helpful when we got it home & had an issue with one of the hoses not screwing on properly, a replacement was express posted within a couple of days, over all I would recommend this machine & am happy with the purchase. Size, programming , functionality, smart design, appearance. It's expensive but understandably so, to tall/deep if you are short lol.
Very happy – How long is a reasonable amount of time to wait and use the item before reviewing it? Of course, with it being a new purchase and an up there price, I want it to be perfect. I have done at least half a dozen loads with his machine, dirty sweaty work clothes, sheets, towels, delicates. Quoting PB - so far so good. The machine seems to be a mix of… Read more · 1
all the good things and a fix of my complaints of my past machines. I like that it has a 'time to end' display, that it sings to me at completion, the huge load capacity, see through lid. I doubt I will ever use the built in heater but I rather too many options than not enough. The laundry comes out clean, no lint, no tangles, ready to hang. I'm thinking LG is becoming my brand of choice.
*Update Feb 2014 - still loving it. All good so far.
Best washing machine I've used – The controls are easy to use. No lint, quiet. Clothes are very clean. Water level can be set from 30 to 125 liters which is not possible on many new Eco machines. Huge bowl is very easy to fill. Very happy so far. the glass lid is not a necessity but it like a luxury cur with a soft close lid. And I haven't tried the inbuilt heater yet. Easy to… Read more · 2
