DO NOT PURCHASE THIS MACHINE – I previously had a 7kg F/L and was happy with it then thought I would go to the 8kg but it doesn’t even wash a normal load, quilt cover, 2 pillowcases and a thin child’s towel it just sits and tries to spin and that’s on the duvet setting 1hr33mins. Basically you can’t set it and leave it expecting it to finish the load to come back and hang out… Read more
load. Not a time saver nor electricity saver. Currently trying to swap for a larger machine because the “8kg” can only manage a 4kg load yet the old 7kg, no problem. LG doing it’s usual run around. Please don’t do it to yourself buy a larger machine or preferably another brand. I mean why does it advertise as an 8kg but only handles 4kg. False and misleading advertising. Fair trading and ACCC need to get onto this sort of thing asap.
LG - lifes good or LOW GRADE! – Persuaded by salesperson to buy LG & give them another go. Nothing but trouble. Wasnt cleaning so I went back to place of purchase, was told to only use cotton or cotton eco cycle & to use pods, not liquid or powder. What is the point of having all these cycles if only two actually clean. Cycles are ridiculously long, 1hr 40 mins for four items of… Read more
clothing. Clothes come out with ties ripped off & all twisted together. Has destroyed most of my delicates so now I handwash. I cannot say anything positive about this machine
Good machine but takes too long – Pros: Looks sleek, easy to use with plenty of settings. Works well. App works well for download settings & alerting me when cycle finishes. Cons: Time & load size. Only cotton & cotton eco take full 8kg loads. Most are 4kg. Instruction book gives no guide on time taken for cycle as it changes with weight so it’s trial & error. I liked the… Read more
idea of steam for hygiene & allergy care but never use it because it takes 3 hours & only 4kg. I generally use cotton eco or mixed fabric which take around 90 to 120 minutes depending on load weight & washes well.
Fairly quiet machine except the water fill which keeps stopping & starting, so the Quiet wash is far too noisy to run at night.
Amazing machine life saver – Accurate description, amazing quick wash option, have 3 children and the quick wash is all I need to use and the clothing comes out absolutely amazingly clean and fresh smelling!! Show details
Leaking after 3 years – Bought this machine in March 2000 after good service from previous LG Washing Machine. Noticed staining on floor in laundry and started investigating the cause. Found water leak from internal of washing machine. We are a family of 4 so the machine has not seen excessive use in the last 3 years. Of course I'm outside the warranty period and up for… Read more
a repair bill of a few hundred dollars. I would not expect this to happen even at 3 years old. Unlikely to buy another LG machine after this experience
30 Minutes Means 30 Minutes! – My parents have had an LG washing machine for the last 10 years and its still going strong, so that was a good enough reason for me to go with LG as well. My apartment has one of those cabinet laundries, so the narrow depth of this model would probably be the only one that would fit flush, and it does and it's great. It was installed by the… Read more
delivery people and straight out of the box it worked (running it through tub clean cycle first).
It's both simple and smart - it has the usual default settings (Cotton, Eco, Delicate etc) and also has steam functions which is great if you have allergies or sensitive skin. What's more - the "Quick 30" wash actually goes for 30 minutes! It might go up a minute or two if you change water temperature or spin speed setting, but having reliable time settings can be life-changing.
It cleans well and the steam function is a nice touch. It makes an acceptable amount of noise when spinning (closing the laundry door helps significantly).
The app is really only useful to remote start a cycle if you've already set it up manually on the unit. Maybe I'm using it wrong or missing something, the "Useful Features" are kinda vague and have no metrics to go by. For example, the "Energy Usage" section has a graph but no labels on the y or x axis. Weird. On the plus side, the app will send you notifications when a cycle finishes - no more leaving washing in the drum overnight!
I really feel bad for those who have had a negative experience with this machine, and that LG may not have been prompt with their repairs/responses. Knock wood I don't have to go through that, but for the moment, I highly recommend this washing machine.
Life Changing! – I was unaware washing machines could steam! It did and it does, but, mind you, I have only to believe this because I haven't actually seen any steam! Having had an antiquated Bosch for the past twelve years, a new washing machine was a new experience. Imagine! I could even operate it remotely from work on my phone. Not sure why I would want to do… Read more
this but....open opportunities I use the steam function - of course because I can - for everything I wash, which is generally clothes, I think! I accept a cycle is about two hours, so know the clothes are clean if it takes that long!
No short cycle – This machine does not have 15/18 minutes cycle which most other washing machines have. Sometimes I have to wash 1 item like a padded jacket which is delicate and don't want to wash for a long time. It does not have this option. My previous machine had this. Also in the sportswear cycle max spin is only 800rpm which is disappointing. I always… Read more
use 1000rpm spin for my normal daily clothes. The shortest cycle in this machine is 30 minutes. Makes a loud thud sounds while washing. Machine cleans very well though. Hence the three stars. Download cycles don't have what I am looking for in the app. Disappointed.
good washer, follow install instructions – After reading a lot of the bad reviews on the WV5 series here, I decided to buy one anyway as I have other LG equipment including dryer, and the reviews I read on the sellers site about the WV-1408W specifically say its a good model. On receiving the item I can see its a very heavy unit, good for its stability. Its also very nice looking, the… Read more
front looks more matt black tinted, than a black donut like online pics show and you can still see the clothes through the front when its when its operating.
It looks to me like LG have been reading the reviews here and have fixed the problems other describe. Some say it requires concrete floor and is not stable. Mine had a couple of 3M brand pads included that have a rough surface topside and sticky bottom side to stick to smooth floors and provide something the units rubber feet can hold on to. I know from automotive that 3M make some serious glues and things like these, so I trust they will work as they should. As I have a tile floor the instructions said I should use these and I did.
There are also several places in the documentation that say there are large transport bolts in the back (there are 4) which must be removed to avoid noise an improper operation. Further, you must undo at least one of them to get the power cord out. A basic tool to do this is supplied, but the bolts are not labeled with "remove this" tags or anything on the back so I can see how someone could not read the manual and leave these in. The bolts come out, and then the rubber grommets with plastic nut the bolts screw in to also pull out and plastic caps to cover the holes that are left are provided. I suspect those that talk of loud and improper operation have failed to remove the transport bolts.
Some here say it cant do a medium length cycle. I used mixed load type and my first wash with a full load has come up at 1 hour 21. I do agree the default spin cycle at 1000 (RPM?) is powerful and vibrates (like all spin cycles do). It can be turned up to 1400. After a couple of washes, I would recommend the highest spin cycle for the most effective spin dry. Noise is not over the top compared to other washers, but if your requirement is for ultra quiet this is not the washer for you. For me its fine and I can see its powerful and its working. I am happy with this purchase.
Total waste of Money. - DO NOT PURCHASE THIS MACHINE – Purchased machine in November 2021 - Power issue first appeared February 2022 - not turning on etc. Reported straight away and had the first technician turn up 27 April, after multiple calls to the service line. Now, 2 weeks ago the machine ( when we can actually get the thing to turn on ) has stopped spin cycles with no fault codes. A further… Read more
wait of 2 weeks for a service technician and over $120 spent at the local laundromat and still LG will not authorise the refund for a clearly defective machine. Not only is this machine a substandard product, the whole customer service from LG is utterly useless. DO NOT PURCHASE TTHIS MACHINE, or ANY OTHER LG WASHERS. I'm considering never purchasing another LG product again.

The best washing machine ever – I purchased an LG WV5-1408W 8KG Front Load Washing Machine so I could store heaps of things in the fridge and freeze lots of things as well. This is for when I move into my own unit in March 2021. The staff were kind to me and the service was great Show details
Dead After 6 Months – It's quiet when it's working. It's quieter still now because at 6 months old it's COMPLETELY DEAD. NO POWER. And there's no rush getting it fixed. The service agent will contact you within a couple of BUSINESS days and then LG will send them some parts and eventually someone will come and see you, probably after New Year. So that will be 3 weeks to fix a BRAND NEW washing machine. Show details

Know better, choose better.
Does Anyone know what each programme does and how long each programme takes with the same amount of clothes? – We have just replaced out old LG front loader with a new one. We thought that the new one would be faster but the salesman had no data other than the option for a "quick 30 minute" wash. Instead we find that the machine won't tell you how long it will take until it has already started. Longest wash for the old machine was 2 hours including an… Read more
extra rinse. Just used the machine today and tried "Easy Care" it said it would take 2 hrs 37 minutes! It was still doing the initial wash 1hr and 30minutes later! We are slowly working out the times for each setting but it would have been better if the time range was included in the manual together with an explanation of how many rinses it does. There is no explanation or instructions at all for the "steam" feature so I am extremely worried about using it. I don't want many of my clothes subjected to steam if it is hotter than 100 degrees. Can anyone point me at a technicians manual that may have more information? Thanks

Stopped working after 6 weeks – Power button stopped working suddenly after 6 weeks. Tried 'reset' as advised via several google articles but no luck. Its under warranty but this shouldn't happen to a new machine. Show details

Great Front Loader – Just bought this LG front loader from Harvey Norman. Great washing machine. Clothes come out nice and clean. Very quiet. I have to check to see if it's working. Great Show details · 1
Best Machine I’ve ever owned – After owning ever owning top loader washing machines and hearing negative stories about front loaders, I decided to see for myself and took a chance on the LG 8kg front loader. WOW, I really wish I had only done it sooner. I love everything about it from its stylish modern look to when a cycle has finished. It has multiple programmed cycles… Read more · 1
ranging from your tub clean, quick wash through to a steam setting. I opted for a slightly larger machine to fit things like bedding and I comfortably fit my king size quilt set plus euro covers and 4 addition pillow slips and accessory covers in 1 load and still have room for more. When in operation it’s quiet even when spinning! The feature I like best is the face it is compatible with my smart phone using the LG think app. This allows me to download extra cycles, remote start and stop a cycle, time my washing to finish for when I return for work and also let’s me know when it has finished, I always have my phone so if I don’t hear it has finished my phone sends a notification therefore I don’t forget to unload the washer. Never once have I had to spend time untangling anything after it has completed a cycle and even using a delicate/ wool cycle it washes to perfection. For the past 12 months I have had family staying with me and it is not uncommon for us to wash 4 loads of laundry a day. It has never once skipped a beat. I am truly amazed and will never own anything other than an LG front loader again. Another bonus.. it has a whopping 10 year warranty on the motor. How can you go wrong really! Best decision and investment I have ever made!
Excellent washer - with one fatal flaw – Replaced dying 7kg LG washer which we had always been happy with. This machine is similar, am happy with the wash quality 1 month in. 8kg is good for our family of 5 + one on the way (I wouldn't go this big if you had less people, it will be hard to fill correctly to get a good wash). It still plays the happy jingle at the end. The one flaw… Read more · 1
that would make me reconsider my purchase is that the child lock does not prevent the washer being turned off mid-cycle!! It prevents setting changes, and it even keeps the control panel locked after it turns off - you need to unlock it to start a new cycle. But it doesn't lock the power button - so it is useless against a toddler. I've had to restart several loads that were cancelled mid-cycle, and will have to lock the laundry - so what is the point of a child lock??
My only other qualm is the door lock seems flimsy, and can be hard to shut - you need to be quite deliberate.
Efficient and Effective Washing Machine – A very quiet and powerful washing machine. Lots of optionality to vary wash times and water temperature etc. We mainly use the delicate cycle with a cold wash and find this works well for most things. The delicate wash cycle is complete in 45 minutes. We have tried the allergy cycle for sheets, it takes 2hrs and 48 mins. Not sure how much this… Read more · 1
will help combat allergies etc, but great to have the option of this function. Energy and water ratings are good. Much better than our old washer. The 8Kg size is about ideal for our family of 3 with a wash every 1-2 days. Can be operated remotely using the ThinQ LG app and wifi connection. The wifi is easy to set up and it is easy to use the app, though we tend not to use it. It would be handy if you work full-time and want to start the wash in the middle of the day when you have maximum solar power to your panels (if you have them) etc.
