Wow, this lighting kit for the Lego Death Star #75419 was amazing! I purchased it just before Christmas last year and only had a couple of issues putting it together. One of the blasters cable came apart and the touch plate for the Lazer Command Station also broke as it didn't line up. I emailed them with all the issues and the sent out the… Read more
replacement parts very quickly even though it was Christmas holidays. Overall the build came out amazing and the support and correspondence with the Light My Bricks Team was exceptional.
Purchased the Death Star kit and absolutely love the result and it is by far the best quality lighting option on the market as I only wanted the best for this set. It is time consuming and should not be rushed however is very satisfying when completed and it truly makes the Death Star far more visible and interesting. I also went on the website… Read more
and purchased many more additional lights and added them to make my Death Star and light kit truly custom. Had absolutely no issues with any lights or hardware and was very easy to add to once you understand how it all works.
I have required a couple of replacements for some LMB products and in every case the team at LMB have been so helpful and constructive. They never question your concern and just go ahead and replace the product required. Outstanding business service plus the kits are so much fun and look great at night. Show details
The worst – i just purchased an order and right after they cancelled it right away. it made no sense as to why they cancelled it, and i didnt event get a refund when it was cancelled on their own. Show details
DO NOT PURCHASE – No matter how damaged their product is, no mater how many melted legos from their OVER heating cables they will NEVER refund your money. they will put you to work & make it look like it is YOUR fault you got faulty items and will never refund your money even if you send them everything in original packaging!! The wires are so thin and fragile you have to be Antman to handle them! NOT worth all this money!! Show details
Poor quality of service! – I have never had such trouble communicating with a “support team” before. They could not provide me with any sort of phone number, even though they’re located in the same state as where I live. This forced us to communicate purely through emails, and it’s safe to say that it didn’t work very well. Each time I was replied with a new person that… Read more
didn’t even bother reading chain of emails that came before. I was stuck in a cycle of telling them my problem then being slapped with the old, “it’s a parts problem”. I can tell you for sure, that it was not. After trying my damndest to come toward a solution. I, in the end, could not bare it anymore, therefore I asked for a refund which was accepted without question. If I could have spoken to their technician for 5 minutes, this could have been cleared (I have experience with electronics and parts so talking to someone would have gone a long way) and I would have been happy. I would rate 0/5 starts, but it’s not an option.
I’m leaving this experience very dissatisfied and disappointed, I will not be purchasing anything similar again.
Light My Bricks really brings your Lego to life. It's another level completely – Light My Bricks (LMB) in an Australian company that sell lighting kits for Lego models. The kits they provide are custom-made LED's that are designed to fit into Lego models unobtrusively, eg: they have tiny LED's to fit inside a 1x1 Lego stud, and wires thin enough that you can pinch them between two Lego bricks without them pushing apart each… Read more
other so much that you can't build on them.
The end result is that they can make kits that illuminate a model in such a way that the model is literally transformed. Kits are available for Lego City (vehicles, trains, etc), Lego Technic, Lego Creator modular buildings, Lego Star Wars, etc - or you can just buy individual components to do your own custom setup.
Kits are supplied in small slightly-larger-than-a-big-phone boxes, and instructions are online with PDF's illustrating how to partially disassemble your model to add the lights.
Lights can be powered by 5v USB from a phone charger, or from a battery pack such as a CR2032 pack or a AA battery box. The best results will be achieved with USB, but the battery options exist for model components that are separate or cannot ideally be tied into a nearby power source.
The quality of LMB products are sublime. The packaging is very nice and protective and each light component comes in a snap-lock bag that is clearly marked. The LED's themselves, called "bit-lights" are tiny, with even smaller ones called "Micro bit-lights" for inserting into Lego components such as candles. The wire is thin and malleable, but not fragile that it feels like it would snap at a moment. The electrical connections are plastic D-shaped plugs that connect to expansion boards and other cables in order to distribute power around the model.
Construction is the tricky bit. As you can imagine, tiny lights designed to fit between Lego bricks that are already pretty small and can be as small as a 1x1 stud means that you may experience trouble as a fat-fingered adult, but some patience and a set of tweezers can help a lot.
Installing a typical light kit can take a long time. Expect to spend a minimum of an hour to fit twelve lights to the Lego Christmas Wreath set #40426. Much of this time is spent carefully partially disassembling the model and then routing cables, but once done, the payoff is amazing.
So is there a downside? Well, your models are now very much static models. They won't really be geared towards being playable by kids because they may damage the lighting kit. The kits are also a bit pricey, but I put that down to a quality product that lasts a long time and won't fail anytime soon. For broken parts, they have got an excellent support system and I have had new parts that didn't work replaced without drama.
Can you get cheaper light kits? Sure, but they won't have the breadth and flexibility that LMB kits have. LMB is a product worth buying, and if you do want to save some money, wait for their periodic discount sales leading up to Christmas, etc. You also get free shipping on orders over AUD$100.
LMB have made such a name for themselves that they now have UK and US shop sites as well as their original Australian one. A good Aussie success story.
