Map Coffee Luna Combo

Absolutely brilliant. couldn't be happier – I scored this for $50 as it was the last in Australia and i couldn't be happier, i can use map, aldi, gloria geans, cafitalia and woolworth branded pods, perfectly. I know this is discontinued but i hope they re-release it, even if it's under the cafitalia brand, because it's a brilliant machine. Works perfectly every time. A little noisey but other than that, it's perfect. Show details
Excellent little machine...with a voice – Let me get a couple of small negatives out of the way before I start with all the positives. When the machine is warming up, it makes a very loud screeching noise, it has done this from the very first time I used it, I thought it might just be something that will happen with the first few cups, until it gets used a bit more & would then go away,… Read more
however, it's around a year old & it's still doing it. Once it has gone through the warm up, the screeching noise stops. It is a little embarrassing when you are making coffee when guests are over, as it is so loud, they get quite startled. I wish there was an auto cutoff, that would be a bonus, as you do sometimes forget to switch the machine off.
Anyway, loud screeching noises aside, this is a fantastic little pod machine. It warms up quickly, it makes a consistent coffee every time. There are so many brands of coffee pods & varieties to choose from for the Cafitaly system. I did my research before purchasing this machine, and the Cafitaly system by far had the most variety of brands & availability at all the supermarket chains. I purchased the machine at Officeworks & they even sell a couple of different brands of pods for the Cafitaly system.
I've never once had a problem with this machine and it's around 12 months old. I had a lot of of problems with my previous machine (Aldi Expressi), I went through about 4 machines over a few years, I kept having to return them & get a new one, until I finally decided to change brands & I can honestly say that I would choose this brand again in a heartbeat. Also, it has never once leaked water, which my previous machine always did. It's never had any faulty pods or pods not pierce, which is great, as there are no wasted pods, which can wind up being costly.
So, even though it does make a loud warm up noise, it has never given me any actual issues, therefore, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this machine to anyone looking for a great capsule machine at an excellent price point.
Great machine – Gets hot quick enough and is easy to clean. Pods are easy to get and a good price. Only lost one star due to issues with water jug placement at the back and I wish it turned itself off if I forget about it. I looked at lots of machines before purchasing and was temped to change vendors but am happy I stayed with MAP. My next machine will be another one from them when this one eventually gives up.
Magnificent / Great/ The Best Etc, Etc – My MAP Perfecto machine died this week, as did my Krups automatic machine, and I threw both out in the bin. So I went an bought a MAP Luna machine. The difference between the Perfecto and the Luna was night and day, the coffee from the Luna was vastly superior. We also own Delonghi Nespresso Latissima and Citiz machines, and the Aldi's Expressi… Read more · 3
machine. I really like the coffees from both the light and strong capsules from the Aldi's machine - excellent body - though the crema isn't generally on par with that delivered by the Nespresso machines. I find the coffees from the weaker Nespresso capsules too watery, but I think their strong capsules are superb. And so, for the last year and a half, Nespresso and Nespresso compatible strong capsules, with their great crema, have been my favourite rich coffees.
That has now changed. As far as I am concerned, the MAP Luna machine outperforms the two Delonghi Nespresso machines that we own. Strong capsules not only deliver rich strong coffee, but they also deliver it with a very rich, darker crema than the Nespressos. I think this is just a function of the machines both working similarly well, but of having more coffee in the bigger MAP pods than in the Nespresso ones.
If you read my review of the MAP Perfecto Machine, you'll see that I wasn't that fond of the MAP coffee capsules. In particular, neither my wife nor I much liked Milano or Portofino. But in the Luna machine both my wife and i now think they are very good.
There are a very large range of coffee capsules available for the Luna machine which runs on the Caffitaly system. First there are MAP's very own excellent capsules, and then there are the Gloria Jeans and Woolworths ones sold at Woolworths supermarkets. They are also very good in this machine.
WARNING - if you go to Ebay, you'll see them selling MAP/Kfee capsules claiming that they work in both the MAP macines and in the Aldi Kfee system machines. This is absolute rubbish. While the Aldi and MAP capsules look exactly the same on the outside, they are totally different on the inside. If you put a capsule in the wrong machine, you get a very lousy coffee, and you hear the machine struggling as well. Don't do it.
One neat feature of the Luna machine is that one doesn't always have to move the water tank out of its slot to fill it with water - as is the case with our Aldi's and Delonghi machines. One can do that if one wishes, but there is also a little flap above the water tank which opens when you push it, and it is simple to pour water into it with a pointed jug. This is so much simpler than refilling the tanks in the other machines.
One thing though, I had to reprogram the water quantities straight away. Most machines deliver 40 or 50ml for Espresso and 100 to 110 ml for Lungo. But the Luna machine delivered around 20ml ml for Espresso and 50ml for Lungo and 100ml for the third button which it said was for tea. I think the manual is wrong, and that as delivered, the first button should have been Ristretto, the second Espresso and the third Lungo.
I bought my unit at Harvey Norman, where they also gave me a bonus box of capsules. The box contained 70 hot chocolate capsules, 20 decaffinated coffee capsules, and 50 other coffee capsules (10 Milano, 10 Portofino, 10 Veneziaand other single origin ones).
Anyhow, as you can see, I am extremely enthusiastic about this machine. It retails at a lower price than the equivalent Nespresso machines, but in my opinion, delivers an even better coffee.
Regards Superb Coffee with ultra rich Crema. Nothing
Love Map Coffee - Love the Machine – First let me say; I love Map coffee. It has long been a favourite at local cafes and now that it is in pods, well, how good is that!? So, to me, its all about the coffee. The pod machine still has to deliver the taste and this new model does it very well. Good, flavoursome hot coffee.( I haven't tried all the various coffees or the hot chocolate… Read more · 1

I also really like that it has a large water tank. We have had other pod machines in the office and at home and refilling the water tank so often is a real pain The Nespresso machine at the same retail price point has a really tiny tank. The cheap Aldi machine's tank is better, but still smaller than the Luna. This one is great, We use it at the office and refill the tank once every few days.
The milk frother is irrelevant to me so I will not focus on it. I drink some coffee black and I already have another easy to clean hot milk solution that I prefer to use anyway (No names on this review) Works well. Very simple to use. Great taste. Big water reservoir Nothing. Would be nice if it was cheaper, but then it is a better machine than the others I have used
Love it – Bought this machine online a few weeks ago and I just love it, unfortunately I got the frothing machine too and all of a sudden it wont froth the way it used to. have cleaned it very well and still no luck.....great machine, but disappointed with the frother !!! Very good Show 2 replies
Pretty good – I bought my dad this for Christmas plus the frother and he's not into fancy coffee , but he loves the taste of the pods. Only problem he doesn't like using the frother all the time but we can't work out how to make a full cup of coffee without it being too weak without using the frother. We boiled the kettle and added it to the shot we poured with… Read more
a dash of cold milk and he liked it .... But that kind of defeats the purpose of the machine. Can u pour a shot and add hot water from the machine ?? Pod taste Great Really noisy , instructions don't tell you much
