Wow… where do I even begin? We spent $85,000 on this van, and in just 18 months with only a few trips the amount that’s gone wrong has been unbelievable. The solar has never worked properly despite two attempts to fix it, so the alarms go off at night, the fridge warms up and our food spoils. The lights flicker whenever the taps are used, the… Read more
silicone has lifted on the benches, the skylight and awning have leaked, and we even discovered a sewage leak hidden behind silicone. The water pump died after two months, the anti-sway unit had to be replaced, the bunk-bed ladder hooks lasted a week, a light above the bed has never worked, the toilet latch has broken completely, and the table inside is so flimsy we’ve had to constantly reinforce it.
The most frustrating part is the communication. Every time we pick the van up after repairs, we’re told it’s “fixed,” yet no one explains what was actually done. We’ve requested a written list of faults four times and have been ignored every single time.
If you’re considering buying one of these vans or already have document everything. We assumed early issues were normal, but after serval problems in 18 months, and then multiple issues going wrong on every trip, we realised this wasn’t just bad luck. Sadly, after researching, we found many of these problems are common and maybe why MDC have shrugged them off. Apparently according to our last email “the van was fixed and warranty is up” but our toilet is broken, we have leaks in the silicone, the lights still flicker, the solar still isn’t consistent, guess that’s it then. Never cared to be apologetic.
There are also downfalls that simply can’t be fixed: the fridge is extremely loud to sleep next to, you can’t get a solar history report, the toilet is awful and can’t be replaced with a better model, storage is poor for a family van, the couch and table barely sit four even though the van sleeps five, the awning is tiny, and the reverse camera is mediocre.
Maybe we were spoilt using my dad’s New Age caravan, or maybe a product at this price point should simply be reliable. Either way, we can’t go away with confidence at all and that’s what they are selling. Please be so cautious.
And you only need take a look at the responses to negative reviews on here, to see exactly what kind of treatment you can expect dismissive replies, blame-shifting, and a bullying tone that makes people hesitate to complain. The same attitude appears in their Facebook owners group as well.
Love our MDC. About to get our 2nd one – We love our xt17HRT. She's over 3 yrs old and done over 30,000ks and still going strong. Just done the Savannah on some pretty bad roads for 100s of Ks at a time and only issue was a little dust in the foot well (time to adjust the door) and a couple of latches inside rattled loose. Screwed them back in. Not bad for hours of corrugation.… Read more · 1
Mechanically she never missed a beat, on any of our trips. Including 2 trips to Birdsville. We'll soon be moving on to our second MDC van. Its on order now. Cant beat the service we've received. Top company to deal with!
Best Purchase ever!!! – Our XT17HRT was the best thing we have ever purchased, we have made soo many memories with our van and don't regret the purchase. Our purchase was seamless and easy we did have a 1 week delay for pick up but it was December so maybe a busy time of year. Our experience with customer service and the warranty team has been fantastic, we had a few little things that needed fixing but was all done very quickly and seamlessly. Show details · 1
They will take your money and then you're on your own – Have 3 solar panels go milky and air-conditioning not working van 2 years old phoned up about 10 times and they said they will get back to me 4 months on still no reply, left 12 emails no reply, contact accc they said get in line after sale service not there looks as if they just want the money.
Great van and features for price, customer service good – Van came with everything at a price that was really reasonable. Tows well as it is dual axle and tracks exactly behind the tug, added advantage of this is you can see down the side of the van. Disadvantage is less width inside compared with standard van. There is very little bling with the van except the wires handle ( wife hates it I’m still not… Read more · 1
convinced. Every thing is functional and not a lot needs adding. Take a look under the van and everything tucked away beautifully.Previous reviews express concern around customer I had 1 warranty issue with brand name dcdc charger malfunctioning was replaced promptly no drama no messing around. Only other thing is she’s a heavy unit for size but that balanced with its rugged off road abilities is a small price to pay. All in all not regretted buying this van from mdc.
Frustrated – Brother inlaw husband got them. off grid got 2days . told run out of food first befor power .there extra place for another fridge but still need generator if going longer
