My Medescan RC008 thermometer beeps and lights up the screen sporadically when I insert the new batteries, and then doesn’t work. I’ve cleaned terminals which were not corroded anyway but that made no difference. Frustrating because it seems like it might work but doesn’t Show details

I would give 0 if possible – This is a really inaccurate thermometer. It has always varied .2 - 2 degrees on every read. We have put up with it for a few years since it gives us a ballpark reading of mild versus high temp. It was quite costly (despite it being highly unreliable) which is why we didn’t throw it in the bin. Two days ago my four year old with Covid quickly… Read more

reached an almost 40 degree temperature which couldn’t be read accurately in this thermometer. It was ranging from 37-38.4 on this thermometer. It wasn’t until we got our hands on a reliable one that we realised he was more like 39.4. In this instance, it became dangerous for our son. In an everyday situation or for mild temperatures you can put up with its inaccuracy, but when needed in a serious situation it was useless.

Rubbish - wildly inaccurate – I was keen to purchase a touchless thermometer. Our trusty ear thermometer was very old. As soon as I got it out of the box, it was clear it did not provide accurate readings. Every time I checked (following the instructions - point at forehead), it game me very low readings 34, 35, etc…. If I pointed it at the temple, it gave a more reasonable… Read more

temperature, but once again, it varied considerably. You shouldn’t have to do so many readings (my doctor certainly doesn’t). This will be returned tomorrow and a new trusty ear thermometer purchased. They shouldn’t be allowed to sell this product.

Sadly this thermometer has been wildly inaccurate for us – Had the thermometer for 18 months and it seemed to work fine for the first year or so. Over the last month my bub has had on and off temps and we were assessing it using the Medescan thermometer. If I took his temp 5 times on the right temple it would read normal for 4 attempts and then 38.5 degrees for the 5th attempt leading us to believe he has… Read more

had up and down fevers for a month. The 38.5 would come and go and was not consistent throughout the day but was reading as such over the last month. We have now changed to a Braun in ear thermometer as Medescan says the warranty is only 12 months. They did offer to attempt a repair on our existing one but I am just so over it. It's pretty frustrating as we have had him in and out of the GPs office several times trying to assess if there actually is an issue here but could never get consistent readings. My advice is to have several thermometers on hand anyways to compare readings but I really cannot recommend this one.

Best buy and a must for all parents – We bought this product at the Pregnancy Baby expo. Great people. They explained the thermometer to us with a lot of detail. They really pushed the fact that when we use with our newborn, we should take 3 readings and then use the highest. At first I was not sure if this will waste time, but when I took it home and used it on the little one I found… Read more ·  1

it so easy and fast. It's awesome and I think the best thing since sliced bread.

If they didn't explain to me to expect that some of the 3 readings will be different, I think I would have worried. That's what I see the negative reviewers talking about. It's so easy, just take the 3 readings and use the highest. Always accurate, even our local doctor is using it (I only just noticed now since buying for myself).

We love it, think it's easy and doesn't bother our bub when she's asleep.

Honestly highly recommended. Talk to company and ask all the questions you need before you buy. We did, and they were very helpful in answering at expo.

Love this thermometer! – I recently bought this because I was fed up with my in-ear thermometer being good for choosing lottery numbers and not much else. I have a two year old who will not stand still for longer than a few seconds and I need a quick and accurate reading. This thermometer is the best by far of everything that's out there, simple and easy to use and is… Read more ·  1

being used in many hospitals across Australia now.

A few caveats - as a sleep deprived, first-time parent I wouldn't have coped with this thermometer. I say this both as a mother and as a doctor, I used a cheap regular thermometer in my newborn and did underarm temperatures. That said, if I have another child I wont bat an eyelid on using this on the second baby. Secondly, this thermometer takes the temperature relative to the ambient temperature in the room which it defines on first use. If there's a significant change in ambient temperature, the readings may not be accurate unless you get the thermometer to reread it (which is included in the instructions but again, difficult for a sleep-deprived parent). My recommendation is if you're new to the world of thermometers being finicky (and they all are), have a simple one, and this one. If you're getting high readings with this one, double check with the simple one.

(I don't work for the company and do not receive freebies from anywhere).

Not accurate at all!! – This device doesn't show an accurate temperature. Every time i check my baby's body temperature it shows different. I tried to do 3 times but it's waste of time! Like first click shows 39.5 and second time 37.1, and thired click 36.5 and showing me different temperature. Show details

Results vary by 1-1.5 degrees each time – Overall great idea for a multi purpose thermometer with the unfortunate fail in the critical body temp readings. Measured 3 family members who will get 36.4 to 38 around the head, the temple area varies by 1 to 1.4 deg. Pretty useless to guide if a baby has fever or not as well as an adult. Show details

Inaccurate, calibration instructions are useless – So this reads at 1.1-1.5 degrees cooler than the actual temperature. Instructions on recalibration are useless - holding the mode & C/F buttons at the same time does nothing. Will be returning.  Show details

Waste of money – Absolute waste of money. Never give an accurate reading, even you can feel the child fever. There is no consistency and gives the only reading of 35.6 all the time. Even with high fever of 38. We have to use the under arm which give an accurate reading. Never trust this one.

Inaccurate and frustrating! – Absolute waste of money! I followed the instructions and get a difference of a whole degree when measuring temperature in the same spot. Not helpful when your newborn is sick. So frustrated that I’m now going to have to spend more money on a replacement. It’s ridiculous to blame the salesperson when it’s quite clear this product doesn’t do what it’s supposed to.

Good indication of temperature, however temperate varies at the same spot. Loud click can be annoyin – I bought this after having issues with a previous thermometer. Used it on a 6 month old which had a high temperature and this worked well enough to pick it up. However, you need to follow the exact instructions on taking measurements on the right temple only...the temperature WILL vary on different areas and DO NOT use it on the forehead (will… Read more

Broken screen – I would have to agree with a lot of the people on here regarding the temperature variances even when aimed in right spot. You get many different temp readings. I was still using it quite often until the screen recently broke. And it’s unusable now without very loud volume which cannot be used if baby if asleep to monitor fevers. Really disappointed that now I am left thinking I need to spend a small fortune now on a replacement.

Does the job (more or less) – Overall a decent thermometer - easy-to-read screen, and the colour indicators linked with temperatures provides a quick visual of where things are. Relatively straightforward to turn off the volume (which is really loud). It can take a little while to identify the correct area of the temple to scan (as it's quite specific - right side of the… Read more ·  1

head, certain distance etc. etc.), and you need to take the temperature three times and then use the highest. I find it sometimes isn't that responsive between taking each temperature measurement (can't do it in rapid succession - need to allow at least a few seconds between each reading, which can be frustrating when you have an irritable child), so I sometimes end up trying more than three times before settling on temperature.

All in all, a useful device, easy to use, but not sure whether I'd buy another one.

Broken screen and loud readings – The screen on ours broke within the first 4 months of having it. Great – I've had one for 4 years now. Read the same as the thermometers used at the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children. time. After many attempts and on the verge of tears and panic I gave up on the thing and used a sticker that u just leave on the body which had confirmed what the temp would be. I have used it again the next day and the reading were just incorrect over and over. I gave up and decided to get a refund 4 days after the purchase. I have packed it away, it looks like its never ever been used and have provided a rec. I was rejected a refund and referred to a manufacturer. The manufacturer told me they won't give me a refund for a incorrect use and tried to convince me I'm returning it because I simply changed my mind. Terry white chemist said they don't refund money on 'electronic items'. I had to pinch myself when I got out of the chemist, for a moment I thought I was in the wrong country. This was a very first time In 20 years I was rejected a refund for a product. The women in the pharmacy pretty much bullied me out of the pharmacy and the only reason I've left is because I thought maybe they changed something in a refund policy in Australia that I wasn't aware of. I've filled a complaint with the office of Fair trading and I'm awaiting the outcome. If possible avoid this product. It really isn't worth the money and hassle. There are far better products in the market for a fracture of the cost.
