Purchased in May 2013 ($1400, amazing value in comparison to prices today), the machine ran pretty well up until replacement in July 2025. The only problems were the load sensor not working correctly, this prevented spin cycles during normal programming. So often, I would have to do a separate spin cycle to compensate. This started happening… Read more
sometime around 2021 and became almost a constant affair by 2025. The other issue was the quality of washing cleaning began to reduce sometime after 2023. I think the machine was just aging and it started to show in how the clothes were coming out of the machine, it was probably the load sensor also not letting rinse spins to execute correctly during program cycles.
Before 2023, the machine washed clothes reasonably well, although for best results you needed to do the long cycles. This wasn't always convenient due to the machine having no delay or timer functions built in. At 7kg, the barrel was a good size for small families, it became a bit of a pain as my kids became older and larger sized clothes became the norm.
Overall, the effective service life was around 10 years, considering the purchase price, this was a solid return on investment. I do not think there is a single consumer front loader washing machine left on the market that is engineered for service life beyond 10 or 12 years now. So I'll see what year it is when I go write about the Miele W1 WWD164WCS 9kg washing machine which replaced this unit.
had a good run but didn't make the 20 years – This machine has been awesome, but now appears to be doing what many others are doing. Purchased the machine in November 2012 and have done on average 3 loads of washing a day. (Sometimes up to 7 a day). Purchased form Gerry's local store and was told it would last over 20 years. I am happy with it despite it only limping to 12 years of heavy use.… Read more
I will look to purchase another Miele. This machine now constantly fills with water and we have turn water off, and manually drain and spin again. Constantly get technical fault coded and beeps. It has also flooded the laundry floor recently. Anyone want a well used machine?
We have owned our Miele front loader washing machine for over 11 years, we have never had a problem with this machine. We seperate the whites & colors and care for this washer. Over our 53 years of marriage and 6 children then we have owned many different machines. However we think this machine has served us well… Lately it seems we need to have… Read more

Water leak alarm on Miele Washing Machine – If the Water Alarm comes on , water will be in the floor panel. It could be a leaking bottom drain hose. Metal objects can settle inside the hose and penetrate from the inside.( after say 6 years) Replacement hose is P/N 5913440 on eBay ex Melbourne. or P/N 06101931 original Miele Top of machine has to come off and left side Panel. out of filter plug in front as instructed in Manual. Recommend to clean mini filters at both ends of inlet hose whilst doing the job. Made a magnetic flexible stick to take out future metal objects before causing damage Good for the rest of the remaining 14 years of expected life.
Great Work Horse – This machine IS made in Germany (unlike my fridge which has had heaps of problems) and it is used every day. It has a good load capacity, is quiet and reliable. It never plays up and uses hardly any detergent. I am happy with it. My only criticism is that it is harder on my clothes than the top loaders I've had in the past, but I think this is a problem with all front loaders - it certainly uses less water! Show details
great reliable washing machine – I can't fault my Miele so far, having had it for about 4 years it has run trouble free so far. It's easy to use and plenty of programs to suit all washing scenarios. Show details · 1

NOT good enough for the money you are paying – Not at all a premium quality machine. We have had this for several years and invested in what we though would be a 15-year plus investment ( as these types of appliances once were). This machine is not at all built to last and in future, I will buy cheaper brands and never Miele again. I won't be so angry when the handle literally snaps off in my… Read more
hand then! It has never washed that well. Lacks backs features that other machines have. Seems harder on my clothes than my Mum's F&P machine. Now it doesn't even spin properly and all cycles require me to manually do an extra spin cycle before i out anything into my Miele 'dryer' which doesnt dry.
Good Washing Machine – I had this washing machine for 9 years and bought it brand new from a retailer at full price. It is a quiet machine and cleans clothes well. The machine is no longer working as the electronic display unit has malfunctioned. In this price bracket, I am happy with the quality of the washing machine. However, I expected this machine too last a bit longer than 9 years. Show details

Oh I hate that infernal machine so much. Will never buy another Miele appliance – This overpriced piece of garbage does not spin clothes properly, so the washing always ends up full of soapy water, and you have to manually drain it and run it on the rinse cycle every time. We thought that by paying more for a Miele we were buying something that would work well for years, but it was a scam. Avoid the Miele brand, it's a rip-off.

Miele W1913 drum failure and corrosion – I was called out to diagnose an issue with the Miele W1913 , drum rattling around on spin. Pulled apart and found the drum 2/3 separated from the spider arm that does through the outer drum to the drive. I would’ve thought from a reputable make and high end machine with 90% of the components stainless steel that the spider arm would been made of… Read more
a non corrosive material (pressed stainless steel) as the spider arm is in the washing liquid and detergent. This cast aluminium arm would’ve been corroding from day 1 (unit is 10years old) badly designed. The spare part # 07383105 is nearly $900.00 and consists of drum spider and main drive shaft assemble , you can’t buy the spider arm and drive shaft separately. This sacrificial spider arm just disintegrated over time so you then have to buy a new w/m. It’s just my opinion but the Miele name and build and design doesn’t justify the high purchase price. I’ve got a direct drive LG still going after 14 years and average 4 wash cycles per day. (Big family). Just a side note the corrosion of the spider arm being aluminium was sped up by client using washing powder and not liquid washing detergent. Washing powder is a lot more caustic and sticks to aluminium and speeds up the corrosion process. Hence the short life of the machine e of 19years. I would never ever use powdered detergent in a machine for the longevity of the machine and the powdered residues left on your clothes even after a proper rinse. Picture is of 1 of the 3 arms still attached to the main drive shaft. The remaining 2 fell off. Sorry for client but had to laugh as to how badly designed it was , and an engineer was paid to design this. Sad really.
I was expecting it to last more than 8 years! – With a high price tag I was expecting the Miele to last longer, the spinning cycle makes load noises . The Miele tech said it will cost to much to fix, better off buying a new one. So disappointed Show details

Disappointed in this brand and product – We are very disappointed. We have had this washing machine for 8 years. Randomly and suddenly the machine would not switch on due to a faulty power board. It is not financially viable to repair. We expected this machine would last much longer and be repairable. After looking at reviews, we have noticed this is a common fault in Miele washing… Read more
machines (sometimes on younger machines). We have previously been a big fan of this brand, with multiple appliances and we have always used the Miele repair service. We are reluctant to ever consider a Miele product again.
Miele 1913 good but – I have had our machine for about 7 years and purchased from a local retailer who told me it would last 20 years. Ridiculous cost to repair – We went with Miele because it is supposely as good as it gets. But this lasted just 6 years! OK I get that some parts need to be replaced even in a quality product but $800 for a control board? Not worth it - the new one probably won't last another 6 years. Like others I'll go for a lesser brand and not have such great expedations and put up with the lesser cost of parts (so I have been told). Will never buy Miele again. Show details
Dead after 7 years – It worked well for 7 years. Clothes came out clean and almost dry after the spin. It wasn’t complicated, stayed put and didn’t shake. We were careful to be sparing with detergent after our last machine (Samsung) died when the spider arm detached from the drum due to corrosion from the soap (apparently). We thought Miele would be of better… Read more
quality, but after 7 years this machine has died with almost the same fault. About two months ago it started knocking on the fast spin and progressivelyvgot worse. We booked a maintenance guy from Miele to come out. He took one look and basically told us it could not be fixed, but did not charge us the standard call-out fee. He said we could keep using it for now until it completely failed. If we wanted to send it for repairs we were talking hundreds of dollars and weeks or months without a washer. I am hugely disappointed with Miele. I paid the extra (2.5 x what I paid for the Samsung), for something that I thought would last and be fixable if it went wrong. Reading some of the reviews here, there may have been an avenue to follow with regard to a design fault, but what do we do in the meantime? This weekend it failed completely. My partner could see sparks in the machine and it smelt of burning rubber. So out it goes. Miele doesn’t seem to live up to its name anymore and now I’m not sure who does. I have replaced it with a $500 machine from Aldi. If it lasts out the 3 year warranty it beats Samsung. I am not expecting more than 5 years. I will take the drum out of the Miele to use as a fire pit or a plant pot.
Worst appliance I have ever bought and unfortunately owned – I previously had a Fisher & Paykel top loader for almost 20 years that never missed a beat or had a service call. Wanted to update to a newer model and a front loader. Sales staff told me I couldn't go wrong with Mile and that I could expect at least 20 years from the machine. Firstly the mould that developed around the rubber seal after 12… Read more
months was disappointing. Asked Miele about it and they said its my fault as it must be in a dark and damp laundry with no ventilation and with the door closed. Well that's interesting as it is in a bright and breezy laundry with heaps of natural light and ventilation and I always leave the machine door open when not in use. Anyway after 7 years and out of warranty the entire drum comes off the mounting. Had to push the point with Miele and eventually they fixed it free of charge as a manufacturing flaw. Within months I now have a Technical Fault F53. Upon googling this it seems it is motor or motherboard, both "big ticket" items. Called Miele who advised would have to call out a technician at $179 but if it is not economically viable to fix they will offset the fee on me buying a new Miele machine within 90 days. Well I'm sorry, if the last product only lasted less than 10 years why would i put myself through the very expensive exercise of buying another product that may not last as long as so many other model out there and Miele brag how they are the best in the business. Yes I get people will say theirs has lasted 20 years but so did my Fisher & Paykel for a fraction of the cost. Mile said "oh sorry you had a bad experience, this is not the quality we expect from our products". Well Mile an apology just doesn't cut it. If you expect more from your products and this one has fallen well short, then clearly I got a lemon!! No good-will extended by Miele by offering to send out a tech for free to diagnose the latest issue. Poor form from a global powerhouse, I would have expected more. Sorry Miele times are tough at the moment and I certainly wont be forking out a fortune on another Miele, once bitten twice shy. Left a very poor taste in my mouth

Not spinning water out of clothes, very annoying! – I too have a fault with my Miele W1913. it gets used about 3 times a week. of most loads, the washing needs to be put on the “spin” cycle again, sometimes it takes 3 turns before the water comes out of the washing. Ive got the book out on more than one occasion and followed the trouble shooting. Yes machine is level and balanced, yes the pipes are clear. Very disappointed because its sold as being built to last 20 years. Its more effective money wise, to probably just buy another machine. $179 for callout plus whatever parts are going to be. Then based on other reviews here, I can probably expect something else to break electronically on the panel soon. Very disappointing when they advertise as being built to last 20 years and charge a premium for this claim. The service call out fee of $179, like the price of the machine in the first place, is over priced
Great mechanically, terrible electronics & overpriced spare parts – It worked perfectly for 6 years then the control board failed (very common fault apparently). The cost of a replacement board is $650(!) which is extortionate and also completely pointless since noone will bother to buy it. Everyone loses. Reasonably priced spare parts are a part of good customer service! I'm not buying Miele again. The next… Read more
machine will probably be a Bosch since their build quality is on par but their spares are priced a lot more reasonably.
If anyone's interested in the technical details: The CPU failed (likely the cause of most control board failures), specifically the output pin controlling the water intake solenoid. I suspect it was cumulative over-current damage due to inadequate safety margins in the design.
Cost of the CPU is only $3 (R5F64166DFB) but it's useless without the firmware which Miele won't release.
Since Miele don't do component level repair, the only practical option is to bin it.
An afterthought: Seeing as there is obviously a design fault with the control board in this model,… Read more

A timer is really not asking much – I am very disappointed that this machine does not have any form of delay start or end. don't be suprised if your Miele breaks down – My Miele machine was very good in that I am more than happy with the wash quality. The problem lies in the electronics. more. Even if they stocked the part it would cost $500 to replace excluding labour and call out fees . For a machine only five years they must not expect the mahine to break down. Talk about been tested for twenty years. There is only two of us so the machine is not over worked. The customer service was only average and I was shunted to different departments and 45 ninutes to try to resolve the issue. I wanted Miele to give me a complimentary extended warranty but no go. To finalise my experience I expected 10 Years at least as the motor is guaranteed 10 years. Any one buying a Miele can be rest assured that they wash well but again I stress you don't know how long the electronics will last. DON'T EXPECT 20 YEARS THOUGH.
Terrible! $1499 paid and total failure of power at 4 and 1/2 years old! – Another expensive Miele washing machine going to the dump. I have had cheaper machines from other brands and on average they have lasted 12 or so years, so I… Read more
expected that this machine would live up to its advertising and last me close to 20 years so was worth spending more on. Instead it has completely failed after just 4 years and Miele say I have to pay to have their authorised service person look at it at a cost of about $179 just for a call out fee, let alone the possible $800 it would cost to replace the power control unit. This is despite me telling them of the other reviews that say they have had exactly the same problem with this model, the power supply just ceasing. There is obviously a fault with this model and yet they will not take responsibility for it. No thank you, I have just purchased a new washing machine for $729. It is ridiculous to expect us to throw away up to $1000 for repairs to a washing machine that cost $1499 just 4 and 1/2 years ago when I could spend much less money on a purchasing a new washing machine! (Definitely not Miele ever again!)
My order confirmation says "The Miele motto of 'forever better' is stringently applied to everything Miele approaches; not only to the Miele product itself, but also to the standard of customer service you receive and the personal conviction of Miele employees. We trust that you will be well satisfied with your purchase."
Don't believe them! The customer service you expect is not given as promised, and they do not stand by their products as they lead you to believe when you purchase. I am disgusted in Miele's behaviour and basically non existent customer service once it is out of the 2 year warranty. They have lost me as a customer.
Love my Miele Gentle on my Clothes – 20 minute wash Very reliable Quiet I can hear it when spinning only Does not spin towels enough sometimes I think I put too many in the bowl Just hit spin only and all is fine Miele is worth the extra money I love that they install also so you know that all is well Lovely installers Show details
Incredibly Disappointed – Purchased our Miele exactly 3 years ago and have already had to put it on the scrap heap. machine requires a major repair with its first 2 years.
Last month, the machine showed an F53 fault and was repaired (outside of warranty) for around $300. This week, the F53 fault showed again and we were told that the machine needed a new motor - this is a machine that is JUST 3 years old. Price of the motor - around $700
If I thought this repair would enable the machine to last me another few years, I would get it fixed but I no longer have faith in the brand.
Went shopping for a new machine last night, told the salesman "show me anything but a Miele".
Needs new motor after 4 years – My Miele W1913 had error F53 and needs new motor after just 4 years. Apparently it happens with this model. Don't buy. Serviceman says not made to last anymore. Service cost from Miele Aust ridiculously expensive considering it's their motor that had stopped working in such a short time. You would think they would want to fix it not just make more profit from their faulty product. Show details

Great for families – My Miele front loading washing machine is the best washing machine I have ever had. I have had a top loader for years but decided to go for a front loader the best decision I have ever made. My machine cleans the clothes a lot better than a top loader. It doesn't leave fluff on my clothes, it also removes pet hair which is fantastic if you have pets. This machine is very quiet and I have to check and see if it's on. It is well worth the money. we need to pay $175 for a service call to determine the fault. After two days of research for possible course of actions, we decided to make a service appointment on 15 April 2017, but the earliest appointment available was 3 May 2017. That's 18 days wait - too long! We will need to buy a Bosch washing machine for the time being.
