What a great fridge freezer, quality in everything apart for freezer shelf that's thin plastic, but the ice cube trays are great. Great quality , coming from a Westinghouse 700 lt side by side I do miss the digital temp display quick freeze functions ECT. The Mitsubishi temperature controls are located in the fridge under the top storage compartment, and they are both twist dial, no frills, but less to break down. They tell you in the instructions half way for medium packed and more if the fridge is loaded. The power consumption is great compared to my last one. You may have to play with the shelving system in the fridge as it gives you 4 not so high shelves.. The outer sides are textured and the build quality is very good. This is the only fridge I could find sub 3k that had a 5 year warranty on the fridge and 10 on the compressor, most fridges came with 1 to 3 years. At average rrp is $1700 to $1900 I got mine for $1250 from e and s factory outlet, it had 2 dings bottom back both sides and a every small mark, but covered by full manufacturers warranty. If your looking for a no frills no gimmick fridge that will do the job well, give this a look.

Poor design, not functional – We chose the Mitsubishi MR-505ER fridge primarily for its size, as it was the only one that fit our space while still offering enough capacity. Our choices were limited because the salesman advised that we needed 5 cm of clearance on each side due to the way fridges are now built. At first glance, the fridge’s design and layout seemed good, but after filling it, we noticed some major flaws. Its poor design make this fridge less functional than expected.

The shelving is fixed, meaning there’s no flexibility to adjust for taller items. The door shelves are also non-adjustable. The 2 x 10 egg rack doesn’t allow us to store 2 dozen eggs. The top sliding case turned out to be impractical—we had to remove it just to fit bottles or tall sauce containers. There’s also a shelf that can be converted into a half shelf, but when used as a half shelf, it makes retrieving items from the back difficult. The crisper is small and narrow, it lacks a divider for separating fruit and vegetables, and doesn’t slide smoothly like proper drawer, you have to wiggle it in and out. I absolutely hate it. Lighting in the fridge is very poor.

In the freezer, the shelves are plastic instead of glass like in the fridge. The top shelf has already started bowing after just a few weeks.

On the positive side, the freezer is a great size and comes with three ice cube trays.

12 months later

After 12 months of use, I’m still extremely disappointed with this fridge. The layout has proven to be completely impractical for everyday use. Because of the fixed shelving and poor internal design, items constantly get pushed to the back and effectively disappear. It’s very difficult to reach things without taking half the fridge apart.

The issues we noticed early on have only become more frustrating over time. The freezer door seal repeatedly comes away and needs to be pushed back into place. The top freezer shelves, which are thin plastic, have bowed noticeably and feel far too flimsy for normal use.

Overall, the internal design is simply baffling. I honestly don’t understand how anyone could design a fridge like this and think it would function well in a real household. The layout is awkward, restrictive and frustrating on a daily basis. It’s gotten to the point where I dislike using it so much that I’ve decided to replace it entirely, even though it’s only a year old. Even my teenage kids comment on how annoying it is to use.

The one positive is that the fridge itself runs very well. It’s extremely quiet and seems mechanically reliable. That makes it even more disappointing, because the core appliance works fine, but the design of the interior is such a failure.

Such a shame, because with a better layout this could have been a great fridge. The most frustrating appliances we’ve owned.

Cant really say yet how I feel – I just bought this fridge almost 2 weeks now. I chose it as I liked size, features and the design. It has a quiet motor. Lots of shelves in the door and fridge. An egg tray, and a ice tray with a container to hold the ice. A shelf that folds in half if you need more height space. Great energy rating and door sensor...BUT sadly,I cant fully say I love it yet but I hope I will eventually. It could do with a few minor tweeks. The light in the fridge could be brighter. A light in the freezer section would be great! For the price and the room inside the door I am sure they could have made a water dispenser on one shelf, but thats just me being a designer!. My main concern/ dislike is the temp controls as they arent numerical, but just worded options. I have managed to get the temp okay in the freezer. The fridge temp just didnt seem to be right since I first got it, so I had to order a thermometer for the fridge to confirm my suspicion. With the thermometer in the fridge I had to fiddle around with all the settings to get the fridge to finally read at anything at 5 deg or below. (I am not sure if its the whole make/ model or just my fridge?) To get it to be cold enough I had to put it on "Colder" and then it was reading the temp at 0.6 degrees. That's great but I would expect items to be close to frozen at 0.6?? They werent. I then put it on "Mid" (the recommended setting)..and the coldest I could get the fridge was 5.6! Between the "Mid" and "refrigerator" options I got readings from 7deg -9 deg on average! I dont know if this is normal but it seems I have to leave the setting on "Colder" to get a reasonable temp? It's very confusing and frustrating and it shouldn't be so difficult. So this has put a major damper on my liking of this fridge.I plan to call the company and discuss it with them. I may try a diff fridge of the same model / or swap it for a totally diff brand..I dont know yet? All I wanted was a fridge that I could just turn on, set temp and be done!...shouldnt be so difficult!
