My story I’m an over-thinker I spent months researching a replacement for the Gaggia Classic Pro While I loved the manual espresso machine, making a coffee at home was a bigger task than I wanted it to be. I had plenty of local coffee shops where I could get my daily coffee, so the capsule machine seemed to be the way to go in between coffee shop visits.

I came across the Morning Machine, and because I like technology, its special features, including the ability to alter the temperature, yield, and pressure, kept me curious and made me research it more. I wanted to know if it was any different to any other capsule machine.

You don't have to use any of the capsules the seller sells, as any comparable Nespresso capsule will work in the machine. However, having a dialled-in recipe is intended to ensure the best results.

One of the unique features of this machine that you won’t find anywhere else is its built-in recipes and blooming and pre-infusion functions. These advanced features are designed to maximise the extraction flavour in every brew, giving you a truly artisan coffee experience.

If you don’t want to use the app and its recipes for specific brand capsules, several built-in recipes cover basic coffees and roasts. On the other hand, if you wnat to make it more like a regular Nespresso machine, you can select a classic setting and use only one button.

The machine is packed with technology. It connects to Wi-Fi to get firmware updates and talk to the app, and it has an extensive menu to guide you through setup and maintenance. You need to be prepared to invest some time in this technology to get the full benefits of the machine.

After using the Morning Machine for more than six months and experimenting with its settings, I am more than impressed and happy with my results.

First is the recognition that this is not an espresso machine that will serve up your two-shot flat white your barista makes for you at your favourite coffee shop.

That double-shot espresso uses between 18g and 22g of coffee and outputs between 40 to 47g of coffee liquid. The capsule uses between 5g and 6g of ground coffee, and depending on the rooster's recipe, you get between 20g and maybe 30g.

From my reading, I learned that the espresso and capsule brewing processes are very different in how the water is pushed through the coffee, and the pressure involved is greater in the espresso process. Understanding this difference helped me appreciate the unique characteristics of the Morning Machine and how it affects the flavour and strength of the coffee it produces.

In my research, I discovered little information exists about the changes you need to make to coffee input, pressure, and time if you want to do something other than load a single capsule and hit the button.

I aimed to emulate a double-shot flat white using capsules - possibly two. My flat white uses around 150ml of milk -- which means I end with the equivalent of a single shot of flat white

I have been using the Morning Dream - the new milk steamer from the Moring Coffee company. This has verified everything I trialled in my testing. I can now make the equivalent of a single-shot flat white coffee that goes close to the coffee stratification I get at my local coffee shop.
