Simple but effective – Many of the active mums I know recommended this pram, and I haven't been disappointed. It is a simple design, but has everything that you need in a pram, and none of the gimmicky extras. I purchased a bassinet for a newborn also, but only used it a few weeks as my baby didn't like lying completely flat - she wanted to be looking out at the world… Read more
around her! The stroller can be used from newborn anyway. So easy to push and manouevre, especially when you sometimes have to push with one hand! Also has a very nifty turning circle for quite a big pram. Manages uneven terrain easily, and air filled tyres seem to absorb the bumps better than other strollers. Has a very easy folding mechanism. It is quite large, so I have had a few issues with fitting through doorways, and hitting the rear wheels on walls etc - maybe that's my inexperienced pram driving! It's also big when folded down so takes up most of the boot of our car. I have used a sheepskin insert as it didn't have much padding in the seat without it.
Last model made in NZ, before they shifted manufacturing to China. Love it! – Mountain Buggy sold out to Phil and Teds in 2009, and moved all their manufacturing to China. After doing extensive research, and noting that the warranty period dropped from three years to just one year, I decided to buy a second hand Mountain Buggy Urban rather than the new Urban Jungle. I love this buggy! It's so sturdy and incredibly light… Read more
to push.
I've pushed my girlfriends Valco and another's Phil and Teds, and I'm not jealous at all. There is just no comparison.
I also prefer it over the Swift as I can see my daughter would quickly grow out of the Swift, being much smaller, but she will be in the Urban for the duration of her requiring a pram.
The UV Sun Cover is great, as is the storm cover. We also used the basinette with it and that was fantastic as a bed for our daughter while we were travelling too when she was very young. I just can't fault this buggy or any of it's accessories. Lightweight, easy to expand/fold up, great accessories. Made in NZ! None that I can think of.
Good – highly recommend this pram, especially if you and bub love getting out and about for a walk each day, the air tyres make it a really smooth ride and the swivel wheel makes it really easy to push and steer, can do this with one hand and even one finger it's so light to steer! i LOVE this pram! a great smooth ride for bub. suitable from newborn to… Read more
about 4yrs old. fully reclines and using the recline feature is SO easy to use and you can do this while bub is still in the pram. so easy to steer and really the best pram if you are a walker/jogger. bub will absolutely love this pram. great storage basket underneath. so easy to fold. there is no option for a second child. i'm about to have 2 under two so unfortunately i have to part with my precious mountain buggy and buy a new one that will sit 2 children, i wish mountain buggy had a dual system. if i were to buy this pram again i would probably get the swift as it is alot more compact, the mountain buggy does have trouble getting through the normal checkout lanes and i have to use the wheelchair access lane.
Positive reviews
Can't live without – I have had this pram for 8 months now and I love it. It is so lovely to push and manoveur. Easy to fold, not to heavy and just a super cruze for bub. To date haven't had any isle problems. My buggy is a new Zealand model and I just love it. My only negative is I'd love the basket underneath to be deeper.
Best pram – On a per dollar for use basis this pram has been my best baby purchase, so easy to use and can drink a coffee and also steer, had other 3 wheelers and sold them but this is perfect especially for walking. Material is easy to keep clean also and doesn'y tear unlike some other prams. Easy to steer, good for walking
Great pram! – This is a great sturdy pram. I have used a few different ones and finally settled on the MB urban. We have had this pram for 4 years (3 kids) and it was 2ndhabd when we got it so it's had a fair bit of use and is still great! The fabric portion of the pram comes off easily & can just be thrown in the washing g machine the comes out like new. It's… Read more
not the most compact around. But easily fits in an average cars boot & is easy to fold with no complicated sequencing. I would definitely recommend this pram for walkers as its smooth & easy to steer. Very happy with our MB urban. Sturdy, no fancy extras you don't need, easy to manoeuvre, comfortable for hub & parent.
Negative reviews
Not as good as I hoped – The Mountain Buggy pram has such a good name but I fail to see why. Although the pram is light (that's the only good feature) it was difficult to fold, and there was not much support for my baby. Even when bub grew bigger, the back support was very poor. Accessories were very expensive and it didn't have features like drink holders like other… Read more
prams plus a tiny basket underneath. It's ok for just going for a walk, but for taking it out and shopping with it, not recommended at all. Light No back support, expensive, no extra features, tiny basket underneath
OK – Still a good pram especially push on the road, but I have decided that Bugaboo is actually better value for money as all the accessories are included. easy to use, just kick and will unfold (also 2 fingers click will fold). great for outdoor walking or even jogging. lots of storage at the bottom, great steady pram. the pram is huge and heavy as I… Read more
am very little, I will need to bend down and pick up the 11kg monster and lift it up to my 4WD wagon. We have problem with the break as it was too long, and we sent it to the authorised repair, the dude just cut it, what the (and he cut it too short, one of the wheel will not lock). I contacted the customer service and they agreed to send me a new break. accessories are way too expensive, need to pay extra for bassinet, liner, sun shade, rain cover. I can not see my baby when pushing.
OK – I think this pram is most suitable if you plan to do lots of walking and/or if you live near the beach or bush etc. I prefer to leave this at home and bought a cheap stroller for getting in and out of the car for trips to the shops. I find my Mountain Buggy is lightweight and easy to steer. The frame is a nice sturdy construction. It's Tough.… Read more
Very good walking pram. Too wide for normal checkout. It's really to wide when visiting most shops/boutiques. Fine for supermarkets though with wide checkouts. Mine tore in corner of the seat and mountain buggy wouldn't honour any repairs because it was purchased more than 12 months ago even though I explained that I purchased it when I was only 5 months pregnant and used the carry cot for the first 6 months so really it had less than twelve months use. I found the customer service very disappointing and that fact that it got a hole a bit of joke seeing it was so expensive. It's awkard to get in and out of the car but not sure if any more awkard that other 3 wheel prams.

Wheels have been a problem – I have had my stroller for two years now and have not found it to live up to expectations. It is ok for walking, and I have used it quite a bit, but the wheels have been problematic. Pretty much as soon as it was out of warranty it has had problems. I have had to replace the bearings, then the tyres and now the entire wheels need replacing -… Read more
which is a hassle I really don't need. I expected better for the reputation and price I paid and honestly, now it is not being used at all as my cheap stroller from Big W is more dependable and I'm sick of having to repair the MB. Very disappointing. I would not recommend it and I plan to purchase a different stroller if we have another child. I actually purchased the pram after reading reviews on this site but I notice that the positive reviews are majority prior to the manufacture switching to China. it's nice to push when the wheels are working multiple issues with the wheels as above
Best pram purchase – I love the mountain buggy urban. I originally purchased a steelcraft strider, but when I went walking I found it to be a little rough, since it didn't have pneumatic wheels. I read reviews on the mountain buggy and bought one off eBay. It is a Pre 2010 model but is in great condition. It travels so smooth and love the fact that you can lay bubs… Read more
flat, which you can not do in the strider pram. I bought a lambs wool liner from big w and bubs is so comfy lying back when we go walking. Reliable, very smooth ride. Excellent walking pram Would love the choice to face handle forward, for when baby is small as they out grow the bassinet quickly
3 years on and still going strong – We love our Mountain Buggy Pram which we purchased 3 years ago. You can clean it with a pressure cleaner and it comes up like new! My son is now 3yo and still falls asleep in it when we are out and is very comfortable. The tray underneath is big enough for a small grocery shop and there is a small plastic 'window' in the sunshade part so you can… Read more
see your little person at all times. I love it! long lasting, easy to clean, lots of storage space and pockets. wheel nuts stick out the side of the wheels which make it hard to get through some doorways.

Great pram! – I have had this pram for two and a half years and it is great. It gives a really smooth ride, turns on the spot, can be steered with one hand and is easy to use. It is also a very sturdy pram, withstanding lots of different terrain and trips on planes. It is also think it is quite light for the type of pram. It is quite wide. The wheels have a lug… Read more
that sticks out which can make it tricky to get through tight spots. It is also a bit awkward to lift (like most of these prams). Sturdy, easy to maneuver, comfy It is quite wide
Great pram – Smooth to push, easy to fold, folds flat! Great for walking! Seat is nice and large! Off road its amazing! Wheels are great, easy to push expensive, no extras, limited colour choices!
I love this pram! I can't recommend it enough! Best baby purchase, well worth the price! – I was lucky enough to purchase one of the original Mountain Buggy Urban that was manufactured in NZ from baby bunting a few years ago. I highly recommend this model, however I am not sure of the quality since Phil & Ted's have taken over and are now (unfortunately) manufacturing in China. We have used it almost every day for over a year and have… Read more
never had a problem. It is lightweight and easy to fold down. Handles well and is very easily maneuvered. We used it in parks, walking tracks, beaches etc. We also used the bassinet for about 3 months and our son happily slept in it. UV sun cover was also excellent. I am thinking of purchasing a small stroller for my 1yo for small trips so that I can keep the Buggy in great condition for bub number 2!! Reliable, lightweight, NZ made, fully reclines, great for outdoors
Great pram for the outdoors! – I have had this pram for 2 years now and have found it especially useful when camping or walking/running outdoors. The construction is sturdy and the system is simple and easy to keep clean. This is one pram I can confidently take along the beach as it has minimal metal parts in the wheel system it is perfect for beach use. Just one niggle that… Read more
it is very bulky in the car (and we have a 4WD) and a little wider than I would like for taking into shops etc. Just requires a bit of forward thinking to using the wide aisles so you can get through. A great pram overall and it is robust enough to last time an time again after baby number one. Reliable, easy to manuver even with one hand, sturdy, great for outdoor use fairly pricy, large for shopping and putting in the car
Good – Overall I am very happy with this pram, the price was middle of the range but well worth the money. Great pram, easy to steer around even with one hand. Fits through checkouts and tight spaces. Folds and unfolds easily. We also had the carry cot to go with this pram and which was great because we could see our baby when we walked. Our baby was… Read more
about 10 weeks by the time we had to swap from the carry cot to the pram seat. Accessories can be expensive ie Carry Cot. When adjusting the seat to the more upright position there is a excessive fabric around bub's head. The handle bar that goes across the front of the pram is annoying because you have to take it off when you put bub in (too difficult to put bub in when it's on). Also you have to buy a pram liner (polar fleece or lamb skin) more $$. The pram doesn't taken up much room in the boot however the carry cot starts to take up a lot of boot space.
Good – We LOVE this pram we've owned a few including a Quinny Buzz and a Phil and Teds and so far the Mountain Buggy Urban has trumped them in all aspects. We are reccomending this pram to everyone we speak to. LOVE IT!!! So easy to use! Fold and unfold is easy to get the hang of. Pushes really smoothly, not jerky and is easy to steer one handed. … Read more
The adjustable handle is so helpful as husband and I are different height, it's very easy to adjust.
Great easy to clean fabric and it seems to be hard wearing too.
Has a flat recline so you can use it from newborn which is great as we were looking to avoid buying the bassinet etc this time around. (not neccessary in our opinion)
Has a big peek a boo flap on the hood of the pram so you can keep an eye on baby while you push.
Has a built in sun cover, we are going to purchase the full sun shade as we live at the beach but with the built in one you don't really need to. It's a fantastic feature to have. Baby cannot face you.
The spring on the safety catch for the fold down latch came loose leaving the pointy edge of the wire sticking out after owning the pram for just one week (aparently an easy to fix fault) **We're in the process of getting this fixed now so not a hassel and they've so far been easy to deal with**
The seatbelt needs 2 hands to undo, sometimes with 2 other children this can be difficult but not a problem as it's a safety feature.
Excellent – After hours of pram research I'm so glad we bought the Mountain Buggy. It's worth every cent and makes walking with my daughter a real pleasure! I love everything about the Urban Jungle! So easy to steer and fits through regular checkout aisles at the supermarket A really smooth ride and puts my daughter to sleep in an instant Brilliant on… Read more
rough terrain, we walk in soft sand without any problems
Suitable from birth and we've safely used it with our little newborn fully reclined
Comes with a drink holder
The sun and storm covers (optional accessories) fit perfectly
The hood folds forward so you can see and chat to bub while walking
The peep window is large
It's built to last
The storage basket underneath is a decent size
Easy to fold up and get in the car It's not the lightest pram and it does take up most of the boot in a Subaru Forester
Good – I had a love n care adiva sport which was great in terms of the versatility of the seat options but it could not compare to the mountain Buggy in therms of ease to push and durability. My toddler is very tall and fits well in the seat of the mountain buggy where he outgrew the adiva sport quite quickly. The 35kg weight limit is great as you know… Read more
it is going to last until your child wants to walk everywhere. I love this pram. I first purchased a second hand 2004 model without the adjustable handle about a year ago and it was in great condition, a true testament as to how it will stand up to the test of time. I recently purchased a second hand 2007 model with an adjustable handle and love it even more. These prams are simple, stylish and such good quality (well, the NZ made ones are at any rate). I wish I could convert to a rearward facing seat without having to use the bassinette but that is the nature of a three wheeler. It is a bit wide but narrower than many other jogging prams on the market.
Good – We love this pram it has suited our needs and we have put it to the test off road and it has come through with flying colours. We've only had one flat tyre and the bike shop fixed that for $5 We've got the elite and my baby has been in it for 18 months now. We love it. It is tough and easy to handle off road and at the beach. Ours has been knocked… Read more
around and has travelled lots and it still looks great Changing the height of the harness as baby grows is a nightmare and time consuming and you definitely need a long arm and tiny fingers to get the strap back through the hole at the back of the pram. It's wide and so it can be a hassle in shops and supermarket aisles but that's the trade off for comfort, safety and suspension

Good – This is a very stable and solid pram, and we are very happy with the purchase. I would recommend a mountain buggy to anyone, although you may want to consider whether you would be better off with the Swift, rather than the bigger Urban Terrain (it will really depend on what you want to do with your pram, the swift has a narrower wheel base but… Read more
both are equally sturdy and solid). I would recommend that you get the sunshade, the sleeping bag (only if you live in colder climates - it is fantastic)and the carry cot for your baby (which avoids the need for a bassinet). We have been a little disappointed with the customer service from mountain buggy though. Manoeuvre's really well and is very easy to use, is fantastic over rough terrain (ie anything off-road) as well as on paths, great storage basket, drink bottle holder, adjustable handle height is really useful, accessories are fantastic. Customer service from Mountain Buggy, baby/child doesn't face you, is a little on the heavy side.
Excellent – This is my 7th pram in 3 1/2 yrs. It is by far the best out of them all!! The way it just glides over a rough off road surface is great for my baby, she is so comfy and Im finally happy with a pram/stroller. I love the large storage basket, it fits so much! I picked this buggy up at life line for $10. Bargain!! The fact that all the fabric can be… Read more
removed and cleaned was a bonus, my mountain buggy now looks brand new, I love it!! I only got it as it was going to be the dog walker, but I love it that much that I have put my stroller in storage and have taken the buggy everywhere. Its alot easier to handle than my stroller. My 3yr old can sit in it and it's not too heavy to push with him sitting in it-still vey easy to stear! So easy to push!! looks great, handles off road perfectly. Large storage basket! You would deffinately need a 4wd or station wagon with a large boot as it is very long and wide when folded.
Good – I love love love this pram! I shopped around for along time before purchasing the Mountain Buggy Urban! It is sooo easy to fold and to assemble! One of the easiest prams I found. I can steer with one finger. My daughter has been in it from day 1, and is almost 1 now, she is quite tall for her age, and is so comfortable in this pram. It fully… Read more
reclines back, is easy to clean, and the fabric is very tuff. It can go on almost any terrain, and is just one of the best prams around! I haven't had any trouble size wise fitting down aisles or going through doors when shopping. If I have another baby, I will get the Mountain Buggy Urban double, because I know no other pram could match this one! Easy to steer, lots of room for baby, super easy to fold, very durable! Basket at bigger could be a bit bigger. Accessories are a but expensive.
Good – This was my first pram when my baby was born & I bought it as I loved how nicely it pushed and used it with the bassinet attatchment for first 3 months which was great althougha bit of a pain to fold/unfold. My son became too big for bassinet quite quickly and hated being in the seat as he couldn't face me so I ended up selling it and buying a… Read more
parent facing pram.
Overall it is the nicest pram to push/steer but is heavy to lift in and out of the car and is too wide to fit in places. Unbeatable off road so if you walk or run loads great for that but you may want to buy a stroller too to use for shopping etc Fantastic steering, feels nice to push even off road, nice colours, sturdy. Too wide to fit through checkouts, bulky, heavy, baby cannot face you.
Excellent – I live in an area where there are no footpaths. So it was very important to me to have a pram that would allow me to get out of the house and go walking with my new bub. The Mountain buggy is solid, yet relatively lightweight and folds quite flat. It doesnt necesserily fold up small, but folds pretty flat. We indulged in the Carrycot aswell. Very… Read more
useful for when bub is tiny. This Pram ROCKS! I wouldnt have anything else. Except a Maclaren for the back of the car. Very easy to manouver and quite nimble for a pram of its size. Unfortunatley now taken over by Phil and Teds and Made in China. Although now they are cheaper than when made in NZ. Accessories are quite expensive.
Good – This is a great looking pram and comes in a variety of colours. The fabric is very sturdy and the pram is suitable for newborn to older children. Children look very comfy when they are riding in this pram. Excellent – Overall this is a fantastic pram, and definitely my favourite baby purchase. I have not regretted my choice one bit and would recommended it to anyone who likes to walk outdoors a lot. I cannot rave about this pram enough. It is fantastic if you do a lot of walking, great suspension, big wheels, very comfortable for bubs. I find the… Read more
manouverability of the MB second to none, you can easily steer it one handed, and its simple enough to fold (Dad-proof even!). Its very hard wearing and can take a child up to 35kg. It does take up room in the boot, and can be a bit wide in small cluttered shops. I've got the newer, narrower version and have only had trouble getting through some Kmart aisles. Others stores such as Coles, Woolworths etc it is fine.
Excellent – Brilliant pram, best baby purchase I have made. Has a nice form and style to it too, it doesnt look silly like the Bugaboo. Men and Women both feel comfortable pushing it. Hard wearing, durable, easy to push on all terrains. Great for getting on and off trains. Light and easy to fold up/down. Has a nice form and style to it too, it doesnt look… Read more
silly like the Bugaboo. the only disappointment is that it is about 1cm too wide for some older shops with older and thinner checkouts. It is a bit wide for some doorways too in older homes. The shade cover's elastic seems to stretch after a short time and so the shade cover doesnt stay on as well as it should. The elastic has to be replaced regularly.
Excellent – Highly recommeded, sturdy, survived a number of trips over seas, easy to put up and down. May take up more room in the boot than other prams. It is a great running pram, if you want to keep fit, has a good sized carry basket and maneovers very… Read more
well - highly recommended. There is no toddler seat available for this pram. As a result we were going to swap to the Baby Jogger, however, after a lot of research, we found a toddler seat that fits, a childcare one. We also found that when we put our current toddler in the Baby Jogger, there was a tipping risk when they were in the toddler seat.
We have the older version of the pram, so only an older childcare toddler seat will fit - one that fits to tubular frame. Also, the toddler seat is quite high sitting on the frame, so if visual looks are important I wouldn't recommend it. However, we tested it thoroughly with tip testing with large weights, including our current toddler, and can say it is very, very stable. It will not tip. I know a lot of others love thier urban and have seen a lot of comments from people wanting to know if one does fit, hopefully this will be of assistance.
Good – I really love this pram other than the few minor cons that I can work around. I especially wanted one suitable for walking & using at parks etc - it's perfect for this. It's very sturdy (won't tip over if you have bags hanging off & take baby out). I also have a Maclaren Vogue which I use for shops & restaurants as it's smaller - good but not… Read more
suitable for outdoors & tips over easily. I would buy this pram again if I had to do it all over again. Highly recommended. Great to walk with, very easy & light to steer. Big storage basket under pram which fits everything. Brake is stiff & I have to release it with my hand rather than foot quite often. It's quite bulky & heavy to fold & put in car. Handle bar is easily kicked off by baby/toddler.
Excellent – Very strong pram that is suitable from birth. Very easy to set up and great pram for walking/jogging. Its worth the money for superior quality I love my mountain buggy. I keep catching the quick release button on the corner of things in shops etc.
Excellent – I love my Mountain Buggy, my friends have said that they have pram envy. I also have all of the Mountain Buggy accessories such as rain and sun cover and the wool liner.
