Best wireless range of several modems Ive used – This modem is a significant improvement over my Huawei. Signing in to admin was a bit tricky until I realized user and password were on the base of the unit. Im getting double previous upload speeds and rock solid downloads ADSL 15Mbs. Show details

a poor product, that works first time or not at all – this router is terrible to use.. the speed drops off to 3mb down and 0.5 up until i reboot them back to 30 down 10 up for an hour maybe, before it slides back to dial up. netcomm replaced it the first time, upgraded the firmware after 6 months the second time, then ignored me after that... switched to DLINK and got reliability out of the box Show details

Weak signal – This router is useful only if you have a small apartment and is not going to connect more than 4 computers to the network. Please do not think this router can send the signal further than 30 meters away and allow you to have a perfect connection when you are on the second floor of your house.  Show details

Reliable and stable connection – We are happy with our router so dar. It provides a reliable and stable connection and I do not need wi-fi extenders since I have purchased and installed this router. The range is great in comparison to my old one. We are not in NBN area and this router is great for our needs.  Show details

Great modem – We purchased this modem when we signed up with Amnet for Naked ADSL. So far it has been performing really well - the internet quality has been consistent and we have not had any issues. It was easy to set up on my partner's PC. We needed to purchase an adaptor to be able to connect it to our old phone line.  Show details

WiFi passable in close proximity, but mostly out of range – I can get an excellent WiFi connection up to 5m from modem. Past 7m (and walls) expect to have to buy very long ethernet cables and/ or several WiFi range boosters to get consistent or reliable signal and speeds of more than 5Mbps. On Sundays and Wednesdays for some reason WiFi is out of range to half the house. Changing channels can sometimes… Read more

help, but when it is out of range on those days, it is out of range. My ADSL broadband and WiFi was so superior to ultra fast fibre and I attribute this to this modem. My old modem was fantastic. This modem is a step back to the dark ages of having to use lots of ethernet cables around the house. This modem was part of a package when I changed ISPs. Had I bought it in a shop I would have returned it as being not fit for purpose. I guess if you used all your devices in one room only, and had less than 3 connected at one time, then this modem could be okay.

Good coverage – I was skeptical about this as i got this as free from the internet provider. but so far its has been great , no issues at all. i would recommend it to anyone. but again it depends on the type of walls you have in the house. I have not noticed any drop outs in the house.  Show details

Poor signal but BRILLIANT built in QoS – We received this modem with our AussieBroadband package (had to pay for it) and it does the job. Great speeds when connecting via LAN, however, my biggest gripe is the fact it does NOT support 5GHz! So to get goods speeds (due to interference on our 2.4GHz) I had to buy another router to even use it on WiFi! The biggest plus in my eyes with the… Read more

modem is that I had to do nothing with the QoS! It worked perfectly out of the box! Not packet loss when doing time sensitive tasks! Perfect!

Terrible Wifi – The wifi signal is great if you sit right next to it. If you move 6 metres away it reduces drastically. Upstairs, about 10 metres away or even directly above it I get no wifi. However, it seems to also be worse at certain times of the day eg in the afternoon.  Show details

I got this with my NBN connection – Router does the job, but it isn't anything too special. This was the business grade choice of router. It is easy enough to do port forwarding but doesn't have an OpenVPN client/server or anything. Could do a lot more and I'll possibly replace it quite soon down the track. Maybe with a Ubiquity EdgeRouter or something.  Show details

Wifi works perfectly! – I received this router for my 'national broadband network' plan and the setup process was easy and it has had no problems since. The router is quite large and takes up a bit of space. The speed of internet is always speedy and the reach of the router goes throughout our whole two storey house.  Show details

NF4V Modem – I recently moved and was told by orcon to get the NF4V. I have it about a meter away from my laptop and nearly everyday it drops off. Not happy. As others have said the common denominator seems to be Orcon. Non Orcon customers don't seem to have any problems with this unit.  Show details

Awesome modem from Slingshot – Seems that all the negative reviews come from Orcon customers.....hmmm guess the common denominator. No probs here. Awesome machine. Had netcomm previously from my provider Slingshot and they just don't miss a beat. When I up graded my system. I was given this horrible modem, but the thing cooked itself thankfully. So Slingshot have gone back to Netcomm. Good job.  Show details

Slow wireless – With Orcon Internet and recently upgraded to a 100gig plan. This was supposed to give me 100/20Mbps but can only get 50Mbps download and 25Mbps upload. Yes that is correct up is faster than down. With an Ethernet cable the down load will go upto 86Mbps, but I don't want cables all over the place to get an internet connection. Have been… Read more

considering another provider but may buy a wireless modem that will give the speed as advertised, unless Orcon is throttling the speed.

Full signal anywhere in house! Double download speeds so no complaints here! – Received the NFV4 modem from Excetel to use on NBN. A little apprehensive after reading we would have to possibly upgrade the modem in order to get optimum speeds our plan advertised. First speed test over 60 download and 30 upload. Over double our previous plan. Full signal on laptop and phone anywhere in house. Very happy so far!  Show details

Only Just Average Wi-Fi – Received NF4V modem as replacement for the totally USELESS NF10WV Exetel are still issuing the NF10 WV modem to new customers....Good way to get a bad name Exetel. A balanced review - Happy with Product – We received the Netcomm NF4V from our service provider (Spintel) when we signed up for NBN in Australia. The first thing I note is that this model is around $150 to buy new, and I am reviewing at the price point. There are plenty of products which are better, and more expensive so I feel there is no point comparing this against a $300 Asus… Read more

modem.

The modem was pre-set when we received it so it was just 'plug and play' I was worried, having read some of the other reviews here, that the wireless signal would not be good enough but its been fine for our 5 bedroom house. I get full signal anywhere in the house. The Netcomm NF4V replaced our old Billion 7800N (3 odd years old) and it has doubled our wireless throughput so I am happy! Happy with the product, also very happy with Spintel in general.

Netcomm NF4V Router – We had been an Orcon Genius customer on an ADSL link for a number of years so when UFB became available at our address chose to upgrade to UFB with Orcon. As part of this upgrade Orcon replaced our existing Orcon Genius router with their new standard router, the Netcomm NF4V. Unfortunately our experience has not been good. Performance of our wifi… Read more

devices is generally unsatisfactory and at times slower than we ever experienced with our previous ADSL connection. And our house is not big - a compact two storey house and all of 15 metres from one end to the other. We are prepared to pay for a better router with an external wifi aerial, but Orcon only support the NF4V which is not available with an external wifi aerial.

We have tried a wifi extender which gave us some improvement but whenever it came to getting support from Orcon, the first thing they would want you to do is disconnect the wifi extender as they don't support wifi extenders as part of their solution.

The only option we seem to have is to change providers. We are currently assessing new providers that will give us better router options.

Definitely not one will use if using streaming device and mobile devices to access the net – I decided to upgrade my Ufb from 30/10 mbps to 100/20 Mbps in the hope that my Internet experience will improve. With almost a month of use, this modem/router is NOT capable of handling multiple devices such as 4 mobile devices and two streaming devices. It just slows down at crawling speed that you wonder why Orcon Internet even bothered using… Read more

them for their customers.

I thought my experience is unique but I wish others will let everyone know how bad this device that I cannot wait to return it to the manufacturer to dispose of.

What is worse, you can't get honest technical advice/answer from them that this device is not up to scratch.

Easy to use but it's not perfect – I have been using the Netcomm NF4V for a few days now and it's not a bad unit. I wish it had dual band WIFi instead of just a wireless N(300). To be fair and honest about this review I admit I did not enable the WiFi as I have a large house with plenty of walls and a few devices that are using WiFi. And the Wireless N(300) in my view will not… Read more

just cut it. There is a way or two to get around the WiFi option though and I will elaborate on it further down the review. But as a VDSL modem with VoIP, it's pretty good in that department.

The setup was easy when you are setting up your ADSL or VDSL(FTTN) connection. Just make sure you have your login details from your provider and you'll be connected in a flash. VoIP is pretty good to have but you will need to get support from your provider to it setup or use Google to find the settings for VoIP.

The design is simplistic and the LEDs are the old boring green or red type. It has internal antennas so it looks simple and neat. But like I said nowadays we have more and more devices that need a good long range WiFi signal so the antenna(s) are not that important or kind of useless.

Talking about ports at the back of the unit you will find a DSL port, two phone line ports (where your normal telephone plugs into), four 1GB LAN ports, a WAN port and a USB 2.0 port. There's also a small hole for your reset button just in case you need to restore the unit to it's factory settings or you can reset it via the web interface.

On the left side you will find the WiFi button and WPS button and another USB 3.0 port. Using the USB ports are okay if you want to hook up a printer to share in your home network or use it to plug in a portable hard drive to use as a Network Attached Storage but it will never perform as a proper NAS. It's only good if your transferring documents or small files as it's performance is not that great. So if you're thinking of attaching a portable hard drive to share or stream you movies in your home network, don't expect it to do it with flying colors. Let's face it even the more expensive units are not much better with their USB performance, at best it can be average to above average. If you are serious about sharing or streaming videos you will need a dedicated NAS/server.

As I mentioned earlier this unit only has a wireless N(300). So basically if you have 2 or more devices using the WiFi and are downloading stuff or watching YouTube then you will notice slow transfer speeds. Yes this unit does have a guest network feature where you can have a dedicated WiFi network for guests in the house so they can access the internet connection. Just keep in mind with more devices using the WiFi on this unit the slower the performance will be.

But it's not a complete deal breaker though. At the back of this unit there's a WAN port. Since this unit only has a wireless N you can always use the WAN port to attach another wireless router (also with a WAN port) with an Ethernet cable. This makes it possible for anyone to upgrade or have a better wireless network in the house. There's no need to configure anything settings on the NF4V. Once you have internet connection with your NF4V you simply connect the wireless router to the WAN port. Just a reminder that the wireless router needs to have a WAN port too or at least give you an option that can turn one of the LAN ports into a WAN port. You still can attach another router without a WAN port but that's a whole different setup.

Also I need to point out that although you don't have to configure any settings on the NF4V for using the WAN port. You do have to configure the wireless router that's gonna be used.

I gave the Netcomm NF4V 4 stars on this review because it doesn't give me an option to give it 3.5 stars. So it's either 3 or 4 stars. It is simple to setup and having a WAN port makes it easy to setup another wireless router. Some more expensive units similar to the Netcomm NF4V doesn't have VoIP nor does it have a dedicated WAN port. So even though this unit has its downsides it is still great to use.
