While you are away they suddenly log you out and then go offline so absolutely no use as security cameras. Instructions and interface terrible. The biggest waste of money ever. Arlo simply cannot be trusted – The facts are simple. I purchased a x2 camera and base station system in mid 2018 for $800aud with the main selling point being “7 day cloud storage free”. Now out of the blue, Arlo have effectively bricked mine and an untold number of existing users worldwide by revoking cloud storage/ remote access unless a monthly subscription fee is paid. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS DISHONEST AND UNETHICAL COMPANY! Show details

Cancel camera – Netgear decided to pull the support on arlo cameras that are a certain age. Why do they stop the cameras from working? The cameras worked perfectly fine until it was shut down.

Fairly good but not outstanding – Works as described. Synced easy after reading the instructions and following the prompts on the app. Cameras can be a bit laggy as sometimes the motion detection event is half way over before it starts recording. I will say that my upload speed is fairly slow and is the minimum that will work with this system. The more expensive 'alro pro' has… Read more

rechargeable batteries but was also $400 dearer as I got this on a sale. The batteries in one of mine will definitely not last 6 months as I am looking at a low battery alert on one of mine after 2 months.

It will do the job that I want it to do and I paid a good price considering what I now have.

Great design, now with Rechargeable Batteries!!! – I've been looking at the Arlo security camera system for a while, but never purchased due to the stories of having to replace batteries frequently. Now that Netgear have released the Arlo Pro with rechargeable batteries, what's not to like. Simple to set up, no cables required, good video, now with two-way audio on the cameras as well, it is… Read more

really a great little system for home use. Purchased the two camera set up. While the price may seem steep up front, because there are no ongoing monitoring costs (if you choose basic 7 day cloud storage option), I think it is a reasonable price to pay. I also like the Geo-fencing capability that switches the cameras off when my mobile is back in the house and automatically switches on monitoring when I leave the house. And the Arlo app is great for notifications if there is movement detected while I'm out of the house. So far, so good, although early days with the system.

Perfect for me – I was quoted $4000 (Au) for a 2 camera security system by a reputable supplier. This system cost a LOT less and works perfectly for my requirements. And that is the key part for anyone thinking of investing. Does it suit your needs? I don't need 24/7 monitoring. I need 8hr monitoring on 2 cameras and only occasional 5 camera monitoring (I have… Read more

added 3 cameras - all on 'special' at different suppliers). But I can turn them on remotely when needed and see what is happening inside and outside. Only glitch so far has been having to re-sync one camera a possum knocked out of a tree! My fault. Otherwise highly recommended.

Waste of money - they're more like toys than serious security cameras – Really disappointing for the price. Recharging the batteries is annoying. The sensors wont pick up movement in the yard unless it's close. The lack of cloud storage without subscription is a scam. I'm currently removing mine and installing a much better (and cheaper) Swann system. We have one at work and they're awesome in comparison. Show details

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY – Purchased the Arlo system for our home, and also bought additional cameras, adding up to $1,000+. The camera life isn't great, the connection is so slow, it takes a while to load, and the quality not very clear. Disinterested company – Cameras work very well but are in effect useless since the alert sound can't be changed and the default alert can't be differentiated from eg a Facebook alert. Don't waste your money,!,! – I purchased a 4 set of arlo2 cameras on advice from a neighbour. Now I have been sucked into a monthly subscription for just 1 camera , and when I called Arlo to see if I could get a discount for subscribing on more than one camera, I was put on hold for 1.5 hours! I fell asleep whilst waiting. Then I spoke with 3 different people, over the… Read more

next 2 hours, who were more than unhelpful, to be polite. I explained to the most senior manager I was escalated to, how the cameras and the monitoring has never consistently worked. I have 3 hours gap, incorrect time of day stamps , and unless I put more than one camera on the same area ( in this case a neighbour who keeps throwing rocks at the camera to destroy it as he is a drug dealer who has tried to burn our house down twice) then it is a waste of $50 per month

I have called Arlo customer service 23 times since February, and each time they are less than helpful. I don't expect miracles, but i run a team of customer service professionals, so I am very careful in not hurting any team members feelings. I am always a lady when I speak with the team, but enough is enough.....being polite has not solved the problem!

My verdict....NEVER buy ARLO as they do NOT support their customers. I am very sad to report on my 8 month bad experience. I am an executive & have better things to do with my time. However, if i can help one person make a better , more informed decision than I did, then my time was well spent.

Unreliable, don't work when needed – Considering these are security cameras and should work 100% of the Time I would say don't buy them. these with a nighthawk X10 router which certainly isn't the problem. Other than them being so unreliable and have missed things they should have recorded they do have good quality picture in day and night and the batteries probably last a couple of months if you don't have recordings too often each day. They are also very portable and can go anywhere within Wi-Fi range. I do not recommend this product.

you can do almost the whole training session in front of the camera-will not respond – I have more than 6 arlo cameras in place, a few of them are battery driven. Not bad, not great – Very easy to install and I have found the battery life better than I expected after reading some of these reviews. The down side is that it only sometimes works! Consistently buggy application... Avoid at all costs – I purchased the Arlo security system (VMS3230) a few months pack and installed two cameras outside. The hardware has been great, and the standard batteries in the cameras barely drain at all (i.e still on 95%, and I have it setup on a schedule for motion detection every night). However, the serious problem is with the software - the application… Read more

(android, iPhone, and desktop app) are fully of bugs. First thing I noticed when using it was that the mode button randomly disappeared, meaning you can't seem, disarm, or do anything with the cameras except view their status and replay captured footage from the last week (on their free cloud storage solution accessed via 'Library'). Now, the timing I set for the schedule doesn't work. I haven't changed any of the scheduled times which turn on the motion detection, they have been the same (and working perfectly) for months - but motion detection is now on constantly making the schedule mode useless... It's the same as the 'armed' function... Has the potential to be a great product, however something is going wrong in tech department operations which is seriously damaging the user experience. On top of this, Arlo are impossible to contact (their Salesforce live chat never works either) to tell them any of this. Wouldn't recommend buying this product, it's caused me more hassle than it's worth.

About as useful as a baby monitor – I bought the Arlo base station with 2 cameras brand new from Officeworks almost 3 years ago. I used it at a commercial rental property and at the time it seemed ideal as there was no wiring involved and could set it up myself. Pros: It has a great scheduling and geofencing system. With the Arlo app on my phone running, I could set it to… Read more

deactivate the cameras whenever my phone was within 1km of the base station. The video resolution was pretty good along with the night vision.

Cons: The delay between the camera sensing motion and when it starts recording is so long, that it often doesn't capture anything useful. A person would have to move around and stay in front of the camera for at least 8 seconds before you'd capture them. For example, I had a brochure holder mounted on a wall outside my store and the Arlo camera pointing directly at it. Whenever a customer stopped to take a brochure, the camera would start recording but I would never see the customer in the footage. I'd just see the brochures go down one by one and occasionally I'd see the customer's foot as they walked off!

Sometimes the Geofencing system wouldn't work properly and would remain active even when I entered the property, so I'd end up with 20 one-minute clips of me working at my desk which would drain the battery. And sometimes it wouldn't arm when I left the property.

Major Cons: Whenever there was a power outage, the base station would turn off and I'd have to resynch the cameras with the base station by physically bringing the camera units within 1m of the base station. With one of the units mounted high up under the eaves of a double storey building, this REALLY SUCKED!

After one such power outage, the cameras wouldn't synch anymore and after numerous emails to Arlo support, they replaced the base station. I do give them credit for replacing the base station even though it was out of warranty. However, the new base station wouldn't synch with the cameras either. So my once partially useful security system is now completely useless and I've tried it with different routers at different properties, done a factory reset, etc etc.

When it worked, it was only useful to check if a courier had left a parcel at the front door, but for genuine security, I'd use something that records continuously or has a faster capture time. We did have some fun with it, setting it up inside our home, spying on grandma while we were out, or trying to capture footage of possums eating our cat food. Overall, I'd describe its usefulness and reliability about the same as a baby monitor.

Not as good as Netgear claims – I purchased this after I found my car door had been keys (deep scratch along door on outside) based on the advertised details. the motion detection. I have mine located on the front of the house looking at the porch, and in the end I have had to set the sensitivity to 100% just to detect someone walking on the porch and approaching the front door. Netgear know this was an issue as they shortly released a new improved version at a much higher cost. So be careful about what version you buy and whether it is worth the cost.

Use alternative batteries to the big brands – The Netgear Arlo camera system is Ok as long as you don't need it for frequent and long recording times as its batteries don't last too long. I had the two camera kit for 20 months and initially was using big brand batteries. That made the system very expensive to run and almost impossible to maintain. I found an alternative battery brand on Ebay… Read more

called Marsell that has a good performance and very similar life as the big brands. Other way to reduce its running cost is to schedule it for shorter recording time and/or lower recording video quality. That added to using a cheaper battery would make the system a little bit more cost effective.

I hope this info helps.

Useless product do not waste your money – These cameras DO NOT work as intended. They will pick up movement and activity maybe 50% of the time. Good Monitoring System but needs more flexibility – I have had the system now for 2 years. It's great at recording when it detects motion and it gives you an email alert if set up that way. Video quality good, batteries last for 8 months. However, you can't set one camera to record at one time and the other at different times. Both must be set the same. Also, if you monitor outside and have… Read more

your computer/mobile off, you don't get messages if an intruder is there. It would be better for me if there was an option to have an intruder alert (eg blue flashing light, siren at the premises). Other systems allow for monitoring on a separate screen, with intruder alert, so why can't Netgear be more flexible? - Joe

Too Expensive to run – I would not recommend these for external. Maybe ok for internal however batteries run out quick in areas of movement so you need to switch of At $40.00 per camera it becomes too expensive. They are more of a monitoring system not security

Works fine but batteries are expensive and don't last very long – Batteries are expensive to replace - around $39 Australian dollars for each camera. My last replacement lasted a mere 2 months and 3 days. These ongoing running costs were unexpected. I know the PRO model and new models now come with rechargeable lithium batteries which are great but now im stuck with these old ones. Netgear should offer a trade in service to upgrade to the PRO. Terrible night vision capabilities – I got the 2 camera for the sole purpose of home security while I am away at work. The footage of both during the daylight hours was adequate, I would hate to try and actually get some identification of the person with the… Read more

quality tho.

But at night, forget it..... the quality of either camera was so bad, it was almost impossible for it to be useful. There is quite a delay of when the camera picks up motion to when it starts to record, so if someone is moving past, you don't capture the footage. The IR sensor that fires out a light to pick up motion is inadequate. Initally I was about 6m directly in front of the camera moving about and it didn't pick anything up, as I wialked to within about 3m, it then started to record.

If you wanted this camera to record within a house, it may be ok...and only just ok....

I would honestly keep looking if you wanted anything of decent quality.

Great if you don't need always-on monitoring – The best thing about this is that the Arlo system does what it says. It's completely wire free, battery does lasts a few month. to the street. The battery life drops by around 50% compared to the front door... and this is with all things being equal (i.e. active monitoring is 24/7).
