NIKON D200 is supurb! – the nikon D200 may be old but it is still a excellent performer and i love it very much . yeah it is heavy but i like it . you can feel that there has been thought over and over what features the camera should have. It may be not new in the stores anymore but i am so in love with this machine i'll probably will let a new sensor be installed… Read more

when it fails . but i have bought it second hand and it has been taken care off very well by the previous owner who i had to swear to hug and caress the machine regularilly!

well i have it gripped and that is the way i like it the best , portraits are easy the sound it makes is music to my ears and i own several other dslrs .

The nikon D200 is great the only thing that is negative is the high iso performance but since i seldom shoot at high iso it is a non issue for me build, features, size , weight , sound, handling power hungry at high speed and high iso perfornance

Great Camera – Great Camera! I have been shopping around for ages. Its been such a positive experience. I have gone from my basic hand held camera to my new Nikon SLR. A couple of things you need to know about the camera. To get the most out of the camera try to learn how to use it in manual mode. This is not something that comes over night either, you would… Read more

need to either have some lessons or jump online and put it in youtube and go through some tips on best way to use it.

Overall very pleased with my new camera. easy to use and quality shots not much as yet, but maybe need some experience to use it.

Good – I just moved in into the DSLR range. I have been using a few of the Nikon P series and very surprised and happy with the quality of the D200. The only flaw is probably the price. It is definitely worth it if you can get it on special. The D200 is fun to use and comes with many functions. Excellent Digital SLR. One of the best mid range DSLRs… Read more

around. Nikon makes great lens and zoom. Advanced features are very good and make taking pictures very fun. A little bit pricey for a mid range DSLR. JPEG image quality is distorted.

Good – You may be wondering why I'm bothering to review a 6 year old camera. The reason is, I'm still using it, because it hasn't broken yet; that's why. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who's used a Nikon SLR before. The general formula is something like: goes like a stink; requires baggage handlers to transport; can be used for self… Read more

defense; takes pictures; in that approximate order.

It really is that solid. I've dropped in from above waist height several times and all that happened was it got a bit dusty. Didn't slow it down one bit. The only things that have broken are the rubber covering on the hand grip - a common problem on modern Nikons, I just glued it back on - and the protective cover on the rear LCD screen, after I dropped a pram on top of the camera - yes, a pram.

The other great thing about the D200 is how darn fast it is. If you've only used entry level or consumer DSLRs you've no idea how fast this is. I'm talking instant autofocus in good light and near instant in dim light. You don't need the dinky little focus assist beam unless you really want to irritate your subjects, in which case, be my guest.

The only real down side to the D200 is the age. The D300/D300s is a much better package overall, and the D7000, although no where near as robust, blows it out of the water in terms of image quality.

It you want one, and can get it cheap, go for it, just bear in mind there are better options now. If you've already got one, good for you, you bought a great camera. Built like a brick.

Backwards compatible with Nikon F mount lenses.

Fast, responsive. Getting a bit long in the tooth.

Rubber grips peel off.

Heavy.

Good – The D200 offers a professionla build, with near pro performance, coupled with easy to use controls, and a lower price than comparable digital SLR's. This makes the D200 a clear winner in my book, not the best at anything in particular, but it does whatever you ask of it, and does it very well. All in all, this body will teach you how to be an… Read more

excellent photographer and show you your flaws faster than the newer non pro-models ever could.

Bravo, Nikon! exapansive information in the viewfinder,

Resolution: 10 MP is a lot of data. Enlargments at 20"x30" look superb from this camera, and even prints up to 40"x60" look pretty good. This delivers enough resolution for 95% or more of the potential buyers. The viewfinder isn't 100%

Noise: Because of the chip design (different than the CMOS chips Canon uses) digital noise is a factor at high ISO's and long exposures. NIK Dfine is a photoshop software plug-in (one of many) that reduces noise without losing much or any sharpness/detail.

Excellent – Now that the D300 and D700 have been released, this little gem will drop in price and become even better value for all but the most serious pro - or serious "gottahavethelatestandgreatest" N A S sufferer ! This camera is well and truly tried and tested - the image quality is great, construction is solid and resilient (mine has been dropped a few… Read more

times and still chugs along) file size doesn't require 8G cards to shoot all day and is a great camera for those who know how to shoot manually. It doesn't have all of the scene modes of earlier (or now later) versions, but is not really aimed at that market.

Summary - excellent image quality, rugged build and now unbeatable value. Sometimes its better to be on the "trailing edge" of technology ;-) Build quality - this thing is a survivor

Accessibility of the important camera controls - has 1 button access for the ones that matter

Overall compatibility with Nikkor lens range

Size, weight and how it feels in your hand

Handles in true Nikon fashion - I've been shooting Nikon since the 70's Compared to the 300 and 700 (&D3) - the resolution and size of the LCD screen

5fps max V D300 8fps max for sport shooting

Excellent – The end result is really what counts. I do a lot of sports, wildlife and portrait work. This machine never ceases to amaze me how it knows what I am thinking. I now leave it on Auto most of the time such is my trust in this machine. My mantra over years of professional photography has been "If it feels good in the hand, you just love using it… Read more

and you love the results" D200 scores BIG! Comprehensive range of pro level controls. An ergonomic pleasure to hold. Plus I can use it with ALL my old lenses. My wife loves the feel of it as well. She baulked at the price at first. I won! Very intuitive to use and you are easily able to personal preferences. Built like a rock. Handling fells natural Fast Response. Battery Life +1000 plus and you can buy very cheap batteries on ebay (I have 3 and they last a full weekend of hard work). Mine was the Anniverary Model and came with the baby auto flash, Power Grip, 18 - 200mm zoom. At below $2700 complete in 2008 (D300 just realeased). put extra money into Macro Lens, Studio Flash Gear.

Personal Setting affect JPEG ONLY! - I saw some complaints. RAW will not be affected. RAW Pics can be blown up to Silly "Wall" sizes before going even slightly grainy up close! None,,,, For me it was a win win.... No compromise machine

Excellent – Despite the arrival of the D300, the D200 will remain a very viable alternative for the enthusiast/entry-level professional sectors. This is because that while the D300 does have Live View, Nikon needs to develop that technology a little further so that it is as easy and intuitive to use as the current compacts. True, the D300 has a few more… Read more

refinements, and the pricepoints are tempting, but if you already have a D200, then the current crop of refinements on the D300 does not, in my opinion, justify upgrading. I will wait for at least a couple of model updates before considering an upgrade..... Comprehensive range of pro level controls. Full compatibility with Nikkor D lens (for when u upgrade to a full frame sensor!! :). Build and layout inspires confidence. Handling behaves exactly like a film SLR and so feels familiar. Lovely to have a depth of field preview button back again! Matrix metering very accurate. Negligible shutter lag. SB600 and SB800 Nikon flashes work very well, especially if you add a light softener to the 800. The SB400 is underpowered, but a little better than then the built-in flash. Battery life is excellent. Would have loved a highpoint 100% viewfinder for the money.

Excellent – Love this camera. I was apprehensive at first to purchase such an expensive camera, but now I really appreciate having such an easy to use SLR camera. I love the solid feel of the camera in my hands. The viewing screen is large and can be easily used to check quality of images. Battery life is also quite good. Solid build, easy to use, pricey but… Read more

value for money, good intermediate camera between entry level and pro level, lots of versatility and options to play with in the menus but also able to be used in default settings, love the multiple shots per second. Pricey, but value for money, Nikkor lenses are expensive, camera is a bit heavy, menus are deep and often can be hard to find exactly what you want. Default setting is to reset numbering of photos taken with each change of memory card, however this can be changed in one of the menus.

Excellent – I love my D200! I have used this camera for a year and i am still excited with it's performance over a wide spectum of use. I mainly take fast action shots which this camera is possibly the best on the market at as it's response rate in auto focus is 2nd to none or so i believe. Frames per second leader on market by far. Awesome quality, easy… Read more

to use menus, auto modes are as good as they can get, As near as you can get to a pro camera without spending extreme amounts of $'s prone to getting dust inside when changing lenses. Nikon lenses a little expensive.

Excellent – Overall, when i have this kind of simple camera, i believe i can produce so much pictures with result like a professional photographer masterpiece! Not only the shape that makes me feels so much more elegant, but the price is reachable too. After use it, the noises, the unsharp image result, and the other problems that any other cameras had are… Read more

Excellent – This is a really well made and reliable camera producing high professional quality results at a very reasonable and competitive price. I love the fast start… Read more

up and download, the huge zoom facility in the playback as well as the large size monitor. The 3D colour matrix and the AF - assist illuminator are certainly a plus. I use the grid in the viewfinder for leveling and composition .The histogram display is also very helpful. The locking facility for images is quite useful. The hi or lo check for exposure in the viewfinder is indispensable.Important changes like ISO, white balance, flash number of frames and self timer can be quickly changed without going in to the menu. The ability for auto image rotation is certainly also a plus. The battery lasts a long time. I took 137 large siege J pegs mostly with an attached speed light and didn't even get close to having to change the battery. Haven't really found anything as yet.
