A perfectly serviceable DSL that just fails to excite the photographer in me! – I bought two D90 twin lens kits at Christmas 2008 and got them for a very good price; one was for my husband and the other for me. They have performed well and are a perfectly usable, relatively simple tool for experienced SLR users like us. However they are rather old fashioned and lack basic modern functions like an articulated screen. I… Read more

bought them purely because they handle low light better than any others we tried, and am satisfied with the purchase.

We tried the alleged HD video and found it completely useless, an embarrassment. We own a Panasonic HDC SD5 Video camera and by comparison the video from the Nikon looks like it was taken with a mobile phone - a cheap one! Handles low light extremely well, robust enough and serviceable. Unexciting, lacks some basic features like articulated screen.

Excellant camera – The camera is very durable and takes great pictures. Sports setting can take rapid pictures and then easy to delete whats not good but definitely able to get a few pics that are great. One downside is if not set to sports, takes a while to lock in on subject and due to the delay the event can be over before you snap it. great quality pictures too slow to take first picture Show reply

Good machine for learning photography – this is my first DSLR, and its a great machine to start with. this machine not only takes great photos, but it also has all the features needed for beginner as well as intermediate users, so you wont seek for upgrade easily. Dual wheel, great photo quality, auto CMOS clean

Very good, durable camera – Easy to use coming from a point & shoot camera - still has that functionality with a lot better picture quality. Loads of features & can be used with the screen to access or with buttons on camera. Also really easy to change lenses. Easy, excellent quality pictures even in automatic mode. Still learning the manual functions - the automatic functions are still too easy too use (wouldn't say it's really a con though)

Great value camera for enthusiast – I upgraded to the Nikon D90(body only) from a D50 because I wanted a few extra features (GPS add on, live view, depth-of-view preview). I have not been disappointed. Nikon DLSRs always give you an excellent picture but the D90 is superb. The camera is easy to use as a point and click but still gives you all the abilty to fine tune your pics if… Read more

you want to delve into the menus. I have attached a chinese GPS unit to enable all my photos to be geotagged and it works a treat. My only complaint would be that the movie function is not all that useful as there is no autofucus once the movie button is pushed, and the ability to tilt or move the screen on the back would be handy. Otherwise could not be happier. Picture quality, ease of use, battery life and feature list for the price no autofocus in movies

Excellent – I bought this camera 2 years ago, and have taken it travelling around the world. I still don’t really know how to use this other than on automatic settings rather than manual settings. You can also take video footage with this camera. Easy to download photos and videos onto a computer. Good battery life once charged. I am happy with this… Read more

camera. This camera takes very nice quality photos. I have compared taking the same photo with my other smaller digital camera, and the difference is extremely noticeable. There is a great display of colour, light and shade with this camera. The quality of photos is excellent. I am a novice to SLRs so I am a little overwhelmed with the functions on this camera

OK – Nikon has again provided a great looking and functioning camera for a realistice price point. Of course it would be prudent to compare price, features and functions to its Canon counterpart. Professional results at an amateur price point. The full HD video functions provides a new level of versatility. It has sophisticated matering and Nikon… Read more

quality to boot! Unless you use the camera regularly, the myriad of knobs, dial and functions can create some confusion. Also, after looking at the country of manufature i was a little surprised to see the 'Made in thailand' sticker emblazoned on the product information. i had compared this with a friend from overseas whose D90 had been made in Japan - i know what i would hav preferred!

Good – As full sensor dslr cameras were outside my price range I've found the d90 to be a good all round fit in affordability and features. I have not used the video feature as I have a video camera for that purpose. To any serious photographer I would not hesitate to highly recommend the d90 as a dslr unit that will deliver what is expected from this… Read more

level of digital photographic technology. Just be prepared to spend a fair bit of time in the supplied manual and take advantage of the free online tutorials available from Nikon to learn the features.

March 6th 2017 Update: Now well and truly older dslr techology but mine still suits me

This is a follow up to my review of 2011. The D90 [from memory bought in 2009 or 2008] needed repair in 2012 after an internal component failed that caused all images to be over exposed. At the time I weighted up the cost of repair to the cost of buying a D7200 and decided to spend the $300 on repairing it. I still love shooting with the D90 even though it is way behind now in specs with current models. If you can find a well care for pre-used unit with respective lens it would be a worthwhile dslr to buy if you can't find the thousands to buys a current model. I don't like throwing things away when they still work ok so will hang on to the D90 for a few mores years I guess. This is a quality build prosumer digital single lens reflex camera from Nikon. I've owned a d90 for just on two years and purchased it new with a twin lens kit. It has exceeded my expectations in digital image quality for a camera in this price bracket. I like the grip and feel of the camera when shooting in either landscape of portrait orientation. Even after two years of regular use the body with a black matte finish still looks like new. All the controls work as designed and there has been no need for repair or servicing due to manufacturing defects. I am still learning the finer points of operation and for a novice it was a steep learning curve to get up to speed with the bulk of what the menu contained. Unless I have missed it I would like the d90 to have a focus lock without having to keep a button depressed by finger pressure like the optional feature provided for locking exposure settings. With the longer focal length zoom lens fitted it is a bit to heavy to take any distance on foot as a tourist for simple holiday happy snaps.

Excellent – For those with passion and you don't want to spend a fortune this is amazing bang for the buck. You really have to be serious to use this camera because there's heaps of superb features. I'll use this camera for years to come. Lovely. Fantastic results. Easy to use (if your used to complex cameras and always thinking and tinkering with knobs and… Read more

settings which I don't mind doing) Lots of lens options. Lots of manual over-ride settings (wow) Point and shoot options too. Plenty of professional features and low-light ability. Absolutely like the old D60 but on steroids. NOT FOR THE LEARNER or novice. Stick to simpler cameras (save your money) Like D3100 or D3000. Not a true movie making machine, but good enough for the odd video. Manual focussing while in movie mode is a real limitation. Heavy too.

Good – enough to support the activities of my photographers, with high quality images with support features similar to the D300. I'm not afraid anymore to take pictures with less light. and my son is very pleased with the resulting picture. The first holds the camera I have used Nikon and I am very pleased with the results of its quality. Nikon is still… Read more

the best in my opinion. after I bought the D90 I get better quality images than the D70 which I had before. And I also can capture moving images. weight and lens to auto focus does not support moving pictures.

Excellent – Hi, I upgraded to this from a Nikon D40. I immediately noticed the difference in how much more vivid the images were. This camera does a better job focussing in low light and has awesome low light image quality. One reason for buying it was the ability to make picture quality adjustments using single clicks and without going into the menu such as… Read more

changing ISO or flash intensity or metering options. This features is what distinguishes semi professional DSLRS from entry level cameras. About the only negative is that the learning curve for this camera was a little bit steeper but that does also make it more involving. The camera is heavier and bulkier and now I carry a bigger bag to accomoodate it.

Overall I am extremely pleased with it and would buy it again if it was lost or stolen. Great image quality, Very nice and comfortable to hold, Great scree, HD video, solid build quality, great battery life, has seperate buttons for most features A bit complex to use, heavy

site before purcesing because everyones needs are different. There in a cheaper model nikon which has a built in guide.

Do your research but Nikon is good.(SLRs are generally conplicated.) clear crisp picture quality image. hard to use need a degree now.I mean it's so advanced unless you take the time to learn how to use the never ending extras your waisting your money.you can purchase a dvd on how to use it or read the manual 50 times over.
