Nilfisk GM 170B Comet

Don't touch Nilfisk. Thirty years ago they made good vacs. Now they are unreliable rubbish – I had a Nilfisk thirty years ago and stupidly bought a Meteor without reviewing about 18 mths ago. We paid for an extended warranty and as each motor 'popped' and died, we got a replacement machine. Now, after throwing out three Meteors, we cut our losses and didn't bother with a fourth machine. How a company can let its quality control slip so badly is beyond me. Good suction whilst the motor worked (but not for long!). Motor died in short time.
Annoying – As everyone else has said, the cyclone canister is cheap plastic. One of the clips has cracked and it only just hangs on. I refuse to spend 70 bucks to replace it. It needs constant cleaning and fiddling with. Our cleaner hates it. The power slider has broken. The power cord is broken. I am looking forward to it breaking so I justify replacing it. Its a nice blue colour. Poor quality
Rubbish! – Terrible machine. I would never buy this type of machine again. I feel very ripped off for the price I payed for it. Loses suction and a pain to clean while using it. Its pretty. Lost its great suction after the first use. Has to be clean halfway through vacuuming a room to get any type of suction back. Cyclone filter broke.
OK – Is is ok if you change the bag when only half full, bag fitting is badly designed. The hyclone attachment clogs very quickly and weakens the handle so you find you stop using it after a few goes. Quieter than some, variable speed/power. Bag some times does not mate well, and lets dust through to the motor. Telescopic handle weak, replaced with much better generic one.
Terrible – I am cross about this vacuum. It worked fine when we bought it and less and less well as time went by. Lo and behold, just past the two year warranty period the "cyclonic" dust container cracked so it won't fit on the handle, and the cord stopped retracting. I won't buy this brand again. It's a pretty colour Built in obsolescence
Terrible – I was very disappointed with this vacuum cleaner. Its disadvantages far outweigh any advantages of being "bag free". I have found it clunky to operate and I haven't been able to change the head on it for months. I previously had a Miele vacuum cleaner and will return to buying that brand - I realise now I took all of its advantages for granted.… Read more
The dust collection canister on the main wand.
Not needing to buy vacuum bags. The attachments are extremely difficult to get on and off.
The height adjustment on main wand often sticks and when it finally works you are likely to have jammed your fingers between the wand and the dust collection canister.
The dust collection canister appears to be made of a cheap plastic that chipped within a few months.
It suction gives out after a few uses.
It tips over easily when being pulled along the floor.
No on-board tools.
Wish I had never purchased this. Have had issues with head clogging then motor had to be replaced… Read more
OK – A good vac for its price but expected a bit better life expectancy from such a respected name. I wish the power head was actually motorised and not just suction powered. Stacks away well and is light. But now its gone to the big dust bag in the sky. Good filters, Air operated power head, looks and cannister on handle to empty things like dog hair.… Read more
Its light weight and compact enough to store. Quietish as well Power head needs constant hair removal. The head doesnt work particularily well on carpet sometimes. The on off switch is a little bit too flexible when stepping on it to start and stop the unit. Oh and after just over 12 months its just blew up spectacularily.
Excellent – bought recently and very impressed, has great suction really lifts up the pile, the cyclonic cylinder is really handy and easy to empty, the 3-in-1 accessory does actually clip just under the hose, although the pet brush doesn't but that is no big deal as we rarely use it anyway. Also the pipes are nice solid metal, not plastic. Picked it up for $250.00 great buy!
