Novalac Allergy

Original formula was great for CMPA and silent reflux. However, it has now been decided to add in a thickener which can cause constipation. As we know most babies with CMPA often have constipation so adding in this thickener has made our CMPA baby worse. Unfortunately, we will be looking for an alternative formula instead of Novalac Allergy which is disappointing. Show details
New receipe for this formula is absolutely terrible, smells like vomit, stains the bottles and has made my baby spit up after bottle, I complaint to head office for them to refuse to give a refund saying " try take it back to where you bought it and see if they give you a refund. We dont offer refunds" this company doesnt even back their product… Read more
and refuse to admit there's an issue. My wife and myself refuse to buy any product from this company and I strongly recommend you dont either !!!
The new recipe is terrible. Baby was on the old version for almost 8 months and did amazing. Now, baby refuses the milk, it’s way too thick-had to buy new bottle teets. Baby’s reflux is back, he’s started vomiting again after each bottle, severe hiccups and constipation have all started up again with the new formula Show details
Follow-up · It smells very similar to the original, just slightly stronger in aroma, not sure about taste though bubs definitely wasn’t keen. Maltodextrin is now the main ingredient. We have since made the change to sprout formula and bubs has taken to that pretty well as we’d stayed on novalac new recipe for several tins hoping bubs would adapt again but he continued to go backwards.

Are you aware that your Allergy formula is causing more bad than good? I’m sure you are! For a child who has 3 anaphylactic allergies and multiple sensitivies, I just couldn’t figure out why my child was getting worse and not better! So I did a lot of researching and it turns out that you put emulsifiers in the formula. You love keeping children… Read more
sick! What does emulsifiers do to people, let alone a child with so many issues?!? I will tell everyone to pre warn them. Increased Gut Permeability: If emulsifiers disrupt tight junctions in the gut lining, leading to increased permeability, this could make the child more susceptible to allergens entering the bloodstream. This heightened sensitivity could amplify the severity of allergic reactions.
2. Enhanced Inflammatory Response: Emulsifiers may provoke an inflammatory response in the gut, which could worsen any existing gastrointestinal issues and impact overall health, potentially making allergic reactions more severe.
3. Altered Microbiota: A change in gut microbiota due to emulsifier consumption could impact the immune system’s regulation, possibly leading to more aggressive allergic reactions or sensitivities.
4. Synergistic Effects: If the child is already reacting to specific allergens, the presence of an emulsifier that disrupts gut function could create a synergistic effect, making the overall reaction more severe than the sum of its parts.
5. Individual Variability: Each child’s response can vary widely based on their unique health status, genetic predispositions, and the presence of other factors such as stress or illness.
Finally found a formula bub can take – I don't often write reviews but i wanted to share my experience with other parents who are having formula feeding issues, due to what looks like allergy-like symptoms (my bub had rash, congestion, wheezing, excessive bloating/gas, reflux sometimes projectile vomitting and diarrhea). Over 8 weeks I've tried 5 formulas - Aptamil Gold Plus, Bellamys… Read more
Organic, Nan Comfort, Aptamil Allerpro - all of these are made with Cows Milk protein. Now I'm trying Novalac Allergy which is rice-based
It's been a few days and I've already noticed a difference. Congestion has cleared, a lot less gas and no diarrhea vomitting or reflux. She also seems a lot more brighter / alert. She's been able to take a full bottle within a reasonable timeframe 20-30mins (feeds were taking at least an hour before due to fussiness / burping due to gas). She seems to like the taste.
It requires prepration with hot water (at least 40 degrees) - you can't prepare at room temp as it doesn't dissolve so something to be mindful of when on the go. It's also a bit more pricey at around $36 but it's worth it.
Has been a saviour to me and my baby! – After realising my then 3 month old had some kind of food allergy on top of eczema I was getting anxious and frustrated and needed to find a dairy free formula so I could relax (I was breast feeding at the time and he also started being fussy). I was a bit skeptical with a rice based formula but my son has gone from 7th percentile to 23rd in 3… Read more
months and is still growing well.
This formula tastes yucky but as long as you give it to your baby early on I do not think it should be too much trouble to feed them. It tastes better than Neocate and doesn’t cause constipation like Aptamil allerpro can.
The only pain is preparing the formula as the water has to be minimum 40 degrees otherwise it won’t dissolve like normal formula. I worked out a way though to do it by using half the water heating it up and mixing with the full formula followed by topping up with remaining water at room temperature. Works a treat!
I highly recommend this formula to mums who have bibs with dairy or soy allergy. It’s more expensive than other formulas but cheaper than neocate and other prescription formulas.

Amazing! So glad we made the change – We have had such major issues with digestive discomfort and gassiness/silent reflux with our newborn since he was around 3 weeks of age. We tried many different types of formulas that were recommended until we had a friend who suggested Novalac to try. Thank goodness we did because up until 4 days ago, I was about to have a breakdown with not… Read more
knowing how else to settle our baby who was constantly crying, showing such signs of discomfort, interrupted sleep and gurgling in the tummy. Within 48 hours we noticed a massive difference, he can now settle a lot more easily during awake windows, he’s feeding better, sleeping longer, and is all around a much more settled and happy baby. Would definitely recommend this formula to try for any other parents struggling with similar cows milk sensitivity babies
Good but overpriced :( – This has been a great formula for my baby who has CMPA but it’s so overpriced. Not sure if we can afford this long term. Novalac, please consider reducing your price as not many people can afford this for their sick babies. Show details
Has been such a lifesaver! – My 5 month old was on Pepti Jnr since 4 weeks old, he was having reactions where he would build up alot of mucus and choke which would go on for hours of him choking then stopping then choking, we started him on Novolac Allergy around 2 weeks ago and he hasn't had a reaction once! His now such a happy, smiling and bubbly baby! Novolac has really been a game charger! Show details
Immediate changes in bub – Bub would scream every waking moment so we tried a colic formula which didn’t help. Dr google said it might be lactose intolerance so I purchased this and it made a difference immediately. The screaming stopped and she’s so settled. Worth the money! Show details
Worked for us ! – Our doctor recommended this after our baby was really unsettled with gas and we started seeing blood in stools. Formula is good when mixed with warmer water then normal . Our bub didn’t mind the taste, however the farts and poos do smell. Within a week we noticed a big difference as he started sleeping in his bassinet at night without needing to… Read more
be held constantly or rocked . He still has gas but not like before where it was constantly seeing him uncomfortable after each feed .
I would recommend that the bottles we washed with hot soapy water prior to sterilisation as the formula leaves greasy residue.
Perfect for babies allergic to cows milk – Daughter diagnosed with cows milk allergy and was recommended this formula by our pediatrician. Within 24 hours - eczema 80% gone, no vomiting after feeding, no diahhrea and wheezing/ congestion had stopped. By day 5, no eczema and a really happy baby that is sleeping through the night finally! I went 4 months of sleepless nights and constant… Read more
vomiting and intense eczema until I found this and I only wish I had found this earlier! It doesn’t mix the best (it’s a a bit thicker than generic formula) and leaves an oily residue on bottles as others have said, but baby drinks it in 5 mins flat and loves it so I don’t mind, the positives completely outweigh The minor negatives. Definitely give it a try if you’re looking for a solution for your baby!
Much an amazing formula – After trying 3 different cows milk protein formulas, when my 5 week old was extremely gassy causing stomach pains and then breaking out in a rash around his neck and chest we decided to try this formula and I would not recommend this enough his symptoms disappeared within 48 hours and now I have a really happy baby. Only thing is you have to make sure the water is hot enough to dissolve the formula and makes the bottles harder to clean Show details

Great for my boy who has CMPI – Best formula you can buy on the shelves for an allergy bub. My boy has cows milk protein intolerance and reflux, we tried lots of different ones and this one after 3 days of being on it i could start to see improvements. It is a little gluggy and doesn't mix great. Show details
Good! – My baby got eczema after I stop breastfeeding. Nurse gave me this milk to try and after 2 days the skin of my baby got better! I’m happy with this product even it’s quite pricy but worth it. Show details
Game changer! – My 6 week old was diagnosed with CMPI (cows milk protein intolerance). She was unsettled almost 24/7. Mucus in her poo and the smell was horrendous. We couldn’t put her in her bassinet for a nap she was constantly attached to us. We change to this formula on advice from our Pead and we have a new baby! We started to notice a difference 24 hours… Read more
later. We now get smiles and have a happy baby. Her poo is considered normal again and the smell is completely different. I’d give this formula 5/5 if it mixed a little better and the price was a little cheaper. I’ve found mixing the formula in boiled really hot water (50ml) has worked well.
Seems to make allergy babies and sensitive tummies worse – Already at my wits end with a baby who refuses to sleep, screams in pain from wind, vomits on every formula we have tried and doctors say nothing is wrong. So tired from this constant feeding, pain, vomiting and then hungry again by the time he settled and sleep. Hopeful, I gave my son this formula last night and-success! Or so I thought. morning, I don’t think I have ever seen my son throw up so much. I’m talking vomit everywhere and absolutely screaming in pain
The worst formula I've tried – Only gave one bottle of this formula and the smell of it was putrid straight away. My baby didn't like it at all. Very smelly gas straight away and then a massive diarrhoea explosion not long after. Which my baby has never done before. Seemed like it didn't mix properly either. Don't waste your money. green poos but their normal from What ive heard formula fed babies to be like!! I’d give this formula an 8/10. The price is abit high but it’s made such a difference and she’s been on it for 3 months now !
Working great for us! – My son has suffered months of constipation and always vomiting, we’ve tried numerous of formulas and we have even tried goats milk, he would still vomit everyday after having a bottle. Being 9months old that isn’t very normal. We then went to go see a paediatrician and he recommended the Novalac Allergy formula, we are on day 3 of this formula and… Read more
I’m happy to say my son has not vomited since and his stools are a lot softer. It is definitely harder to find though and a bit more pricier than other formulas.

Thank god we found this – After trying several formulas for a mixed feeding which made baby spew we suspected a cows milk protein intolerance (yet to be formally diagnosed). As baby was breastfed he initially refused this (and any other type of formula) however after preserving for a while he will now happily drink this with no vomiting, reflux etc and is pooing once a… Read more
day now (still mixed fed). All in all bubs is now very happy. Only downside is it’s semi hard to find, often sold out and expensive. It also has an oily residue after cleaning and needs to be hand cleaned in hot soapy water.
High Hopes Crushed – Gave this a go after hearing good things. Bub hated it! She would not drink it and it was so chunky after shaking the bottle for ages. Sticking to S26 lactose free Show details
Horrible – My peadiatrician recommended this to improve our babies skin and spewing . He did not get any sleep over night as he was bringing up so much stomach acid .he was so unsettled we had to hold him after feed for hours ! We could… Read more
not keep giving him this formula for more than a day as it was so hard to watch my son struggle so much . This formula stinks so bad , my son drank it cause he was starving and the formula wasn't filling him up . Novalac is also not readily available in supermarkets . We could only purchase this in chemist warehouse .it is also ridiculously expensive . I don't recommend this to anyone !
Best Decision I ever made! – My bub was diagnosed with GORD, CMPA and Stage 2 Lactose intolerance (genetic from me) and after 5weeks of breastfeeding causing her an ulcerated oesophagus, I made the hard decision to wean her. I initially tried a goats formula for the lower lactose levels but there was only a mild improvement. We have now been on Novalac Allergy for a week and the difference is amazing! ❤️ Show details
Works great for us – Bub was reacting terrible to my breast milk due to allergies. This has taken away all her distress, she likes the taste and her bowel movements have also improved. She also sleeps better and eats more now without crying for hours each night due to stomach distress. I also like that it’s soy free and suitable from 0-12 months. She will stay on this… Read more
formula. Edit to add: I see some people complain about graininess or not dissolving...I have found that you need to dissolve and shake the powder in very hot water FIRST and then add the cooler water. I microwave the boiled cooled water for 30-40 seconds, add the powder and shake to dissolve, then add the cooled water to drinking temp. Dissolves fully and doesn’t block the teat (I use tommee tippee size 2 flow teat).
ONLY ONE THAT WORKED FOR OUR BUB!! – After trying 6 tins of formula nothing seemed to work had a hospital visit as my baby girl was vomiting after every feed the dr recommended us getting this an this is the only formula that's actually worked for our baby she seems to love the taste and brings up her wind alot better an the bonus no vomiting its alot more expensive but works wonders for our baby!! Life saver! – My 4 month old took to this formula really well straight from breastfeeding (using Pigeon wide neck bottles), surprisingly though as it doesn't smell too pleasant. Make sure you mix with a small amount of boiling water first so it dissolves properly otherwise it will leave floaties and a greasy film on the bottle. Bub was having frequent… Read more
bloody/runny stools and has suspected CMPA or gluten allergy/intolerance. We saw a difference within 24-48hrs of using this formula, she has now been using this exclusively for a week. Her stools have completely transformed and are clear from any blood. Even though she was still a pretty happy baby beforehand, she is even better than she already was.
Baby hates it – My 4mo baby has dermatitis so trying to use a new formula for allergies, unfortunately he hated this formula and was screaming and couldn’t burp properly after first use. Tastes horrid and smells awful. Had high hopes after hearing great things. Show details
Great allergy formula for CMPA and soy allergy – Baby has confirmed CMPA and soy allergy and took to this formula well as a top up after breast milk supply dropped. There was no resistance to the formula and baby would go from boob to bottle with no problem. Like other formulas this was easy to prepare-just needed to be mixed while still hot (not boiling) to make sure it dissolved. Show details
Not for my bub! – Baby wouldn’t drink this as the taste is pretty bad - she just spat it out. I’ve heard good things about it working for diary free but unfortunately she just couldn’t get past the taste. Quite thick and grainy as well. Show details
Causing very bad constipation – My son is 5 months old, I’m not sure if the formula has been changed in anyway because for the first 3 months my son was pooping great! Every day sometimes twice and sleeping so well. Out of no where he is so constipated his poo has caused tears and today is going on the third day with no poop. There has been no change in diet at all! There is no… Read more
explanation other than the formula causing this. I 100% think it’s the amount of formula in the scoop. At the start of the tins formula is very thin and I believe a lot more than what is intended is compacted into the scoop, then when you get further down the tin, the formula becomes more loose. This is unacceptable! It needs to be tested! I have tried aptamil and it is even worse, I thought this was a god send when I first started it, I no longer think that.
Best formula EVER – Best formula for allergy babies, it does need to be mixed with hot water first to dissolve properly but nice and creamy and thick when mixed well. Doesn't froth up. Show details
Lumpy & grainy, doesn’t dissolve properly – I am surprised at the number of good reviews for this formula, we found it to be very lumpy & grainy, not dissolving properly and therefore the milk won’t flow through a normal teat because the grains get stuck and block the flow. Baby is usually very good with new flavours but rejected this one, probably because of the grainy texture. We wont be using this again unfortunately! Show details
