Survived the summer – Knocked a star off because of the noise/dry vacuum feeling, but it can become white noise after a while (to block out neighbours' parties/flight path). I am not good at assembling, but had no problems with my (sash) window and I didn't remove or have to cut the flyscreen either. I used electrical tape and cardboard for the gaps. I move the unit… Read more
from room to room and shut the door to keep a cool temp. Sometimes I can't be bothered moving it and am still able to cool my entire bedroom/kitchen/living (small 1 bedder) to a reasonable temp, and this is with the PIU 12. Door snakes help and overhead ceiling fans improve performance. It really does cool on a hot day- especially a single room. It means I can stay home or do work in the evenings without escaping to a library or my car or a shopping centre for heat relief.
It doesn't take too long to cool a room either. I have a shower (door closed), go back in my bedroom and it is already very cool - even when the walls are still warm to the touch from those 40 degree days. I had been warned off portable a/cs because of their inefficiency and failure to work, and I now regret not buying one years ago. Yes, I would rather a split system or window unit, but these options are not possible for most renters. The Olimpia got me to sleep and survive through this extremely hot Sydney summer. Electricity bills weren't too bad, and I occasionally kept it on all night. Warning: may not work easily on those wind out/push out windows. The other kinds of windows should be fine.
Works well and keeps me cool!!! – Purchased a 2nd hand PIU 12 unit from a friend recently and find it works really well in the small room I needed it for. I do find the hose somewhat restrictive ( the company says not to connect another to it) but its not a fan so doesn't need to blow air onto me so no biggie really. I did see one review where someone commented on the fact that… Read more
the air blows upwards as directed by a static vent...well of course...cold air drops so no point in being able to aim it low...bit of a 'duh' moment there!!
Don't find it uses too much power and even though we have RC Air con which my hubby doesn't like me using because it is a power gobbler I can still keep myself cool with this little unit.
Yes it is a little noisy but easy to tune out from (turn up the music ha ha) and I don't try to sleep with it so no problem for me there, but then that might be good to drown out the noisy neighbours and barking dogs.
Only other issue but not problem...how do people use them in old houses with wind-out windows - which is what we have in the rest of the house - plus security screens? Luckily I have a sliding window in the room I use it in, but that might be an issue for some folks especially renters. Installation was easy using the window attachments but although a little heavy and awkward on carpet I don't need to move it around. Slides easily enough on hard floors.
Do wonder though how you get the plug out to drain it...does it pull out or screw?? Its in very tight and we cant budge it either way...can anyone help us here please?
All in all an excellent little unit.....as they say "happy life happy wife!!!!" :) I would recommend it to family and friends and would happily buy another one. No point in cooling the whole house if you only need it in one room.
10 out of 10 for me!!
Best portable air con that will try to take on an Aussie summer! – With portable air cons you have to be a little realistic - you aren't going to get the power and efficiency of a split air or ducted system, and those would do much better on a 40 degree day. But this was the best unit I could find that was a) portable for my rental home, b) didnt have to be filled with water or emptied constantly, c) relatively… Read more
low energy use d) cooled well.
The 12 model is good for a small-med bedroom or room where you can close the door. It has a timer on or off setting which is really handy, and so far it's the best unit I've come across that will reduce the temp of our west facing bedroom on a 35-40 degree day. Honestly, I'm not sure if there is a portable unit built that would work on a 40+ degree day!
To ensure it can cool efficiently on hot days I've had to make sure it was turned on turbo a couple of hours BEFORE the temp hits max, and from that time the unit has a head start at cooling. It didn't get to the set temp of 22 -- the compressor tried but it just stays on - but it did cool to about 24 which was plenty good when you're melting in the summer heat. It also had a dehumidifier mode which is handy when it gets humid and stuffy but it's not necessarily hot.
Some of the modes are hard to figure out - the manual can be found online and demystifies it with some reading.

Absolutely fantastic – We bought 3 of these in Nov 2012. All still going strong and are used every summer. Have never missed a beat. Easy to clean filters. Store away during winter and then click straight into gear as needed. Show details · 1
I only just got one with out manual – Do you add water In the eco plus silent model number 12 or not and if so where do you add the water just wondering because of the rain drop symbol on the little digital screen Show details

Broken within 24months – We have only used the unit a few times, but it has broken within 2 years. A lot of money for something that doesnt last. During operation it worked well in a small space, but poor in poor in larger spaces Show details
Awful – We’ve kept it on all day, sealed off a small area of room to survive the heat and it’s still sweltering in here. If you stand right in front of it, you feel a cool breeze (albeit weak at best on the highest fan setting) , if you move 1m away from it, you can easily sweat (32 outside 29 inside). Very disappointing to purchase the worst performing portable aircon I have ever owned. Please save yourself the disappointment, do not buy. Show details
average product – Very nice to sit in front of but didn't cool the room. Might be okay if you only want to cool the house at night when it's cool outside anyway, but too noisy to use in a bedroom. The window kit was a bit useless but we have improvised. Average buy. Show details

PIU 12 not blowing cold as it use to, resetting did not fix – Hi I have PIU 12, it was in storage for few months and once I turn it back on, it just blows normal air but not cold as it use to. I’ve tried resetting holding down power button for more than 5 seconds to no avail. Please help. Show reply
Piu 12 air con – Hi everyone I bought this unit second hand and it was 7 yrs old and apparently still goes very well. I have no complaints other then a rotation vent would have been nice but I just sticky taped a cardboard flap to direct the air flow down and she is perfect.
It has been going for donkeys years and is still just as good as the day we got it – We have a large bedroom and it cools that very quickly. Timer on the remote is a great feature as is the glow in the dark button. Easy to drain and clean filter, great buy. Only downside, it's very heavy and if you want a light easy to move aircon, this is probably not for you. Show details
Perfect for a small room – I have been using this air conditioner for around 5 years and still works perfect. It is a little bit noise but you get used it. I dont have complaints Show details

Satisfied – This air conditioning unit is fabulous for our bedroom. Does exactly what it is supposed to! It does well on it's highest setting and does well on the lowest setting to maintain the cool. Show details
Perfect for small bedroom – My Evaporative cooler wasn't enough when the temperatures started reaching 44, 45 so my Son turned up this air conditioner. I am pleasantly suprised at how cool it gets my bedroom and how quiet it is.....compared to the evaporative cooler. It is light and easy to manouver and has more than enough exchaust pipe to reach my window. I live in a… Read more
very dry area so perhaps that is why I havent had to drain any water like other users. I do however agree that fixed vents which point up toward the ceiling are rather annoying, also no swing function, which is why I gave it four stars.
Worth getting if you have no other options – This certainly does what it's supposed to which is cool a room. Bear in mind it isn't designed to cool large areas. I've only ever used it in a bedroom and it may take half an hour to an hour to get the room to cold but once it does it gets icy cold and stays that way. It can get a little loud on certain settings but if the choice is to sleep in a… Read more
40+ degree room that is quiet or a 20 degree room that is a little noisy, I'll take the latter.
Yes, it is heavy and awkward to move around, messing around with the window kit and filling gaps is annoying and it costs a lot to run, but if you have no other options to cool your place then this is still an excellent option to get through an Australian summer.
Great Air con for renting – My wife and I only rent so we needed to look into a mobile Air conditioner and we purchased this one it is an amazing little air con and especially being able to move it from room to room, the controls are really easy to use and understand, and even on the hotest days it went great. Great system for a studio apartment – Great little unit for smallish rooms or studio apartments. Keeps my bedroom at around 20c in summer. Easy to set up. Just a bit confusing when a F l error message for filter cleaning pops up even when the filter is clean This is a must product for them steamy summer days Show details
average product – This is a good portable air conditioner for small small apartments. Although it does a good job at cooling down the room it’s in, the air fails to travel as far as it is advertised on the website. Additionally, the unit sometimes becomes get quite loud due to the compression of air. Show details
So good product – I would truly recommend that product for everyone wants to buy this Olimpis Splendid Piu mechine. You can use this machine in summer and winter. Makes your living room or bedroom cooler in summer and warmer in winter. It is the best. Choose it please. Thank you so much for your time! Show details
Below average – I bought this item one month back and i am not at all satisfied with it. The cooling is really bad, even if i keep the temperature at 18 degrees, the room does not cool. Plus its too noisy as well. Only plus side is i avoid the installation cost and mess. Show details
Good option! – I have been using this unit for more than a month on daily basis and I am satisfied with the performance, but not with the power bill. Quieter than other options, but overall I believe it is a good value for money if you look for a portable, reliable cooler. Show details

It Does the Job – Bought one of these 2nd hand off Gumtree. We have ducted air, but I could not justify using that to cool just our bedroom at night. Set it to 19 the other night when it got to 37 during the day and it cooled the room quite well all night. It is not silent by any means, but it becomes background noise and I'm a light sleeper. It's heavy and… Read more
cumbersome to move around, but all in all worth it for a good night's sleep in hot weather. Our bedroom is 20m2 with 2.4m ceilings.
Does it’s job – Bought this for the upcoming Newcastle weather which I have heard could go to 40 degrees plus the humidity. Lot of advises (online, friends, sales people) to not to buy evaporative cooler (which are cheaper), hence bought portable air conditioner. So far not terrible days but still used it couple of times. PROS - It is one of the best… Read more
portable aircons and does it’s job perfectly well. So worth the money I spent.
- Easy to operate remote
CONS
- Manual is not helpful in how to install the exhaust to a window.
- Makes noise ( probably half of a vacuum cleaner), but you do get used to it.
Overall happy to pay $700 for the job I want it to do.
Rubbish – Worst product ever i had the thing in a 25 Sq meter room never worked there so i tested it in 8 sq meter room, only cooled the room to 26 c when it was 28 c outside. Never buy a single hose portable ac any single hose ac is a piece of junk 3.5 kw yeah right more like 400 btu. Show details
splendid – We recently bought 1 and we like it very much it keep the place nice and cold thinking about getting some for my family member for this christmas! who all is reading this should get one they are nice not to bad for there value I would highly recommend this to anyone.. especially during the hot months when we need to stay cool. portable airconditioner – Bought this unit to go in my bedroom for the summer as I am a night worker so I need to be in bed by 4:30pm during the week. Was noisy but still able to go to sleep. Cooled down room well (3.4m x 3.0m). The unit wheels around well but if you have to lift it over anything it is heavy. Exhaust hosing does take up room and unit needs to be away from wall for hose to attach, but I am happy with the unit. Show details
great for the price – this model was a great portable air conditioner for the price I paid . most other models for the same KW were at least another hundred dollars . it was in stock and easily picked up . I would consider buying another one and also referring to family and friends . Show details
Not great – Does not cool the room - on all day and relatively small room still like a sauna. It is very , very noisy and it can't possibly be correct in its labelling of 'silent', unfortunately a waste of money. Better of getting proper air than this. It is easy to install and move around though. Show details
Finally an effective portable A/C – After persevering for 3 years with an ineffective portable evaporative Airconditioner, we bought a Piu 12 which is perfect for our small unit, relatively quiet and can be moved around if needed. It works extremely well and is perfect on the very hot days providing great relief from the heat. Show details
Not good – We have a plu12 in a 3x3x2.8 room there is no direct sun light on the room the plu12 is set to 25 outside temperature is 32 room temp is 28 the fan in the plu12 has only one speed not like the other one we had this is the second one the old one was good in a bigger room and it would cool to 24 But the new one the fan has only one speed two meters… Read more
from vent you feel nothing and they tell me nothing can be done so be it just like every other product on the market.
1.5 m flexible pipe – the parts of 1.5 m flexible pipe were broken, I don't know where to buy it. Can we buy from online shopping at your website I find that is not easy to buy the parts and not easy to find a shop in the Brisbane city Qld as well. Where can get a new 1.5 m flexible pipe? Bought secondhand but works fine - just doesn't cool room – Bought today off Gumtree. Everything is working it seems - compressor kicked in and air is coming out cool. However, I've had it going for three hours now in my small bedroom and the temp in there is unchanged. Yes I have sealed up the window vent. It would help if I could at least aim the air at the bed but the vent is angled upwards and the… Read more
cool air just seems to disappear. It is 38C today but that is what I needed an air con for - the stinking hot days in Perth. I'll keep it going for a few more hours, but seem to just be wasting a lot of money on electricity at the moment for no result.
I think it is pretty quiet for a portable air con but its larger size also makes it a bit heavier. All of which is irrelevant if it can't cool my room!
Does the job but is noisy – We purchased this unit for our bedroom. The fan is quiet but the air compressor is noisy (70-80dB as measured with an app on my iPhone) and wakes me up every time it switches on. This is the first portable air conditioning system we have purchased so I have nothing to compare it to. The staff at The Good Guys said it was the quietest on the market. Too noisy for us.
Inactive buttons – The right buttons (+ - ⏱️)seem inactive? I have a second hand unit with no remote Any suggestions? Thanks Show 2 replies
