Obvious Oppo are paying people to review – Over priced and cheap software and parts. You people being paid by Oppo learn to be less obvious. Nothing but issues from day 1. FM radio has never worked. Touch issues, glitching now a popped out screen and I use it as much as anyone else uses theirs. You can buy a Samsung same price with more GB and better quality. Never again Oppo. Show details

My backup to an iPhone XR, but I actually like it better! – So I bought this Ax5s a bit over a year ago. It was on sale at Officeworks for $189. I had an old iPhone 6s, 16gig and was running out of storage. My son later gave me his iPhone XR, also 64gig. I guess I just prefer Android phones. No doubt the XR at around $700 is a MUCH better phone, but I still love the Oppo and love the long battery life, the… Read more

shape and the teardrop front camera, and just the way Colour OS works. While its often true "you get what you pay for" I still consider this phone is excellent value for what I paid for it, and I still prefer it, and use it most days. Its simple, clean and reliable.

Exceptional quality over price – 1. Very happy with the camera which takes really good photos (I'm not an expert on this area though) - have a look at the picture I took with my phone 2. Display looks durable but it's not as bright as the Huawei phones that I had before 3. I use it for my daily life including emails and organisers etc 4. Apps are running smoothly no drama … Read more

This phone has such a good quality over price. Definitely have better phones in the market but this price probably one of the best within the price range of $180-280.

Good Phone, No software updates, ColorOS is horrible – Ignoring the software side of things, this is a really good all rounder for a budget phone, I have been using it as my main phone for a year now and it's a really good phone. There are a few things that let it down, firstly there is no USB-C only Micro-USB (Type B), which is okay but everything is now starting to switch over. However what really… Read more

drags this phone is ColorOS. ColorOS 5 isn't that great at all, notifications are extremely bad, there are only notification numbers for Facebook and WhatsApp or the built in applications. Otherwise the apps will show a dot next to the icon, which is extremely dumb and stupid, also the notification sounds are the worst things ever, I switched to custom ones almost instantly. However what really sucks and shows how poor Oppo is with their software is that this phone will not be getting ColorOS7 (despite a trial version button in the settings which does nothing). They said (this is from words from Oppo themselves) "Sorry, but the Oppo AX5 will not be getting updated to the latest android version, but we will keep rolling out security updates and patches." This really annoys me, this phone is a year old and 2 android versions have already come out, with android 11 almost out too! This means that this phone will stay on Android 8.1 forever and there is no posts on the XDA fourm on how to root this device and get Custom firmware for it, leaving me and the other users in the blank. Not only this but they haven't updated the security since September 2019, I am writing this on the 29 of February of 2020, absolute appalling. This is quite sad, this shows the lack of consideration on Oppo's end and how they don't care about their customers. Despite this being a good phone, the software puts it down, so unless they suddenly agree to push ColorOS 7 out for the Oppo AX5, I'd say go look at another budget phone, from manufactures like Samsung who actually update their phones.

Great price Great Phone – Got one of these as a first time user of a smart phone. It cost $250 at a store having a discount sale. Usually $270. Havent had a problem with it. Have all my security on it (Trend) and other features they sell for Mobile phones,. Went over seas and got a Woolworths global roaming sim card for use overseas. If your travelling check them out. was great to have a phn that could hold 2 sims. Found I used it for everything I normally did on my laptop when travelling and my laptop is now rarely used. The screen is bright and easy to read. Took a lot of pictures and the quality was great. The phone is user friendly and didnt take me long to work out how to do things. Had a few problems because of my lack of knowledge of Smart Phones nothing to do with the product. It has a large battery so got at least 2-3 days easily out of a charge. At the price it is a bargain and does everything the big boys do without the huge outlay. When I bought it you were not tied to a network so you could use any sim in the Phn. I went to a mobile shop and got an excellant case for the phone to protect it. All the Apps I have now run smoothly. Recommend it to everyone. Enjoy

Great Phone for the price – This is no flagship phone but for $377 outright it is fantastic value. First of all you get a beautiful looking handset with a huge bright clear screen. Calls are clear even on hands free. Apps run smooth and I like color os being a hybrid of apple os and android, somehow for me it just works it is smooth and responsive. phone feature we had to buy another oppo ax5 which we used for 2 weeks as the original was left at another location. when we finally got it it was a snap to copy all messages contacts and setting from one phone to another. The camera takes clear images portrait mode works well though I have not tried it out in low light yet. Battery lasts for days literally. Face unlock is quick, sure no finger print scanner but the face unlock is fine.

In summing up I would recommend this phone lots of features for a bearable price tag. If you need all the bells and whistles than yes there are other options but lots more coin to fork out.

Cheap and Reliable – Purchased a second oppo after dropping the first. Great and easy to use, the finish of the product itself is flawless and the screen is a decent size. If I were to compare it to an iPhone I can’t find many differences.

Oppo AX5 – Why waste a lot of money on a $1000 phone when you can buy this phone on a budget and still get to experience many of the features of those high-end phones. battery capacity is beyond average, allowing you to stay connected for up to 6 hours of constant heavy use and more than 24 hours on standby. Being able to do more than just calling and messaging, Oppo AX5 allows you to play high performance games without lag. Good specs, good value for money, but the OS (Color OS) is marginal – Great battery life, fast processor, OK camera. The hardware is good value for money. But the ColorOS operating system is immature and clunky. Connectivity issues especially with bluetooth dropping out often. Does not integrate well with Garmin Connect and cannot view Health Stats on phone. Many familiar app notification sounds changed leaving you wondering where the notification was triggered. I'm returning to Samsung. Show details

Google calendar lock in Ax5s – I know it is standard practice to lock into a Google calendar, but my previous Oppo had an independent calendar. Now I have no choice. I don't want to use Google calendar. The night shield isn't great, and the brightness adjust itself when this is turned off. Auto focus of camera is a little delayed, and it struggles with whites at times. But quality is ok. Show details

No longer an ok phone as more concerns of Chinese spying have been raised in the media – This is my review of the mobile phone Oppo AX5, model CPH1851. This smart phone had been repackaged by Telstra PRE-PAID, Network 4GX. This model had been released in 2018 although I bought it in April of 2019 at Kmart in Melbourne for $259 in the store. Spying is something to be concerned about, as a user of Oppo I would be using this smart… Read more

phone with much more caution as I'm aware of reports made by Channel News..."Chinese smartphone brands Oppo, Huawei and ZTE are facing a torrid future with their smartphones being labelled as devices that in the future could be used for State sponsored spying by the Chinese government.

According to mobile security firm Kryptowire, a particularly nasty brand of Android software did just that recently, transmitting text, data, call, location, and app data to a Chinese server every 72 hours, the software was found on ZTE, Oppo and Huawei smartphones.

Researchers began to raise red flags in September 2017, when it was discovered the data mining tool in question - called Adups - had been living inside hundreds of millions of devices produced by Chinese smartphone manufacturers.

In the six years since, Beijing has become more assertive and several cases of Chinese spying using Chinese made smartphone devices have been revealed."

It is unacceptable that Telstra place it's customers and private data at such risk. This is a call to Telstra that it should rethink their links with Oppo and compensate it's customers for breaches of privacy.

More cause for concern was error messages at start up in my smart phone with Color OS after a new version of Color OS6 on Android 9 had been installed. I wish Oppo would find a fix for this.

The screen measures 6.2 inches. This display has a good brightness and good colour. This Oppo operates on Android 8.1.0 and Color OS Version 5.1. The weight is 168g.

The main reason of which I wanted to purchase this model was it’s price, 6.2in display and large memory capacity: The device storage is 64 GB in total. The device’s RAM is 4GB. The processor is a 1.8GHz Qualcomm SDM450 Octa Core. So these are all good or even much better than a lot of other Android phones that were available on the market to myself at the time within the $259 price range. I've also installed extra memory with SD card which I bought separately. This Oppo was assembled in China.

The top built-in earpiece of the phone is hard to hear. The voice call volume might be ok to listen while indoors in a quiet place set a maximum however it is difficult to hear outdoors and I live in a quiet small country town. I’ve complained about this volume issue to Telstra. They didn’t know what was causing this low volume issue. This low volume issue is known with this model and other Oppo models. It is unacceptable that a brand new phone will have such low volume issues which cannot be resolved.

The upside is that this phone model has another separate built in speaker driver on the bottom. This speaker is louder and is ok for listening to other media like music from Youtube and Radio with apps etc.

This model has broad functionality with loads of options and personal settings including app split screen and a setting to block the One-Ring Calls for unknown numbers or block Hidden Incoming Calls. I do like the function which lets me know that ”Your phone is in the best condition”. The phones security include face recognition and/or personal pass code. The rear camera is ok. It does not support SIRI although when paired, this phone’s Bluetooth has intelligence to recognise my cars radio. The Bluetooth paired fine to my car's radio and to my home’s Bluetooth speakers. This mobile phone connected fine with my home wi-fi router.

You need to know: I had changed from a Samsung phone to this Oppo AX5. The Micro SIM card which I utilised with my Contacts had been formatted by my previous Samsung mobile phone. The Oppo AX5 could not read nor import the contacts from this pre-formatted Samsung SIM card. So I had to download an App to extract my contacts from my previous SIM card so they can be transferred into this Oppo device.

Replacing the battery of the Oppo’s AX5 is not easy to do. Don't try and replace this phone's battery yourself. Replacing the battery requires good technical knowledge and expertise of disassembling this phone to replace the battery - It needs to be done by an Oppo Service Centre.

The wall charger is Oppo brand and nicely finished in white plastic with output of 5V-2A, using a Micro USB cable for recharging. Telstra claims that the 4230 mAh is a long lasting battery. I tend to use this Oppo mobile quite a lot throughout the day and night and the battery will get low and needs to be recharged every couple of days. It does not support very fast recharging. ( I have installed 25 extra apps only with Google Play Store so I do use many different apps which use energy).

Connectivity to Telstra 4Gx, PRE-PAID is very good and with fast speeds. So I’ve also been using this Oppo mobile phone as a personal HotSpot and wi-fi with connection to my Apple iMac or Apple MacBook Air or my Panasonic smart tv. The speed of the Oppo AX5 and Telstra 4GX internet connection was highly impressive as it outperformed my sad dodgy troublesome Dodo home NBN.

I performed an online speed test with a desk top web site which showed the Oppo AX5 with Telstra 4G Speed test (during week day afternoon) as: DOWNLOAD Mbps 28.40, UPLOAD Mbps 38.17, PING ms 32.

This means that the internet 4G connection was way more reliable and stable for myself to use with video chat such as Facebook or watch online videos, SBS On Demand or YouTube reliably for some hours including the evenings while using this Oppo phone.

The packaging includes a small printed Important Information Guide which outlines precautions with the battery and Warranty. There is also a separate Quick Guide (on two very very small pages) and very limited information (the print/font is very small too).

This is not a robust phone. I wanted to provide extra protection from physical damage to this phone so I bought separately and had fitted a heavy duty shockproof case cover as well as a clear 9H Tempered Glass Screen Protector. ( I tend to drop my phone a lot ).

This Oppo AX5 has performed ok. In the $259 price range in some ways it outperformed and outranked many other mobile phone brands with its large screen size and colour, large capacity of Internal memory and RAM, processor, latest Android version, functionality options and a good range of personal settings, compatibility of installing Apps and App updates. I’ve had this Oppo phone for 7 months. I have not had any error messages nor has it been unexpectedly shutting down and I’v done many App updates. Considering this current unresolved volume issue - if Oppo can't resolve this, I will move to another brand with my next phone which offers similar memory and size features.

Just ok – The AX5 is ok for cheap phone. It does everything you need it to do, but it's nothing special. The camera quality is terrible, which is why I ultimately got rid of it. Blurry photos, and bad quality in low light. Very difficult to take photos of kids when they are moving, or inside the house where there's no natural light. The phone also had… Read more

glitches in different apps, which was annoying. If you're not fussed about the camera or apps and just want to use it to call and text, it's fine. But if you're after quality photos and smooth running of apps, then opt for something a bit more expensive (I upgraded to the Pixel 3a and love it!). Also, I could not use Skype on this phone as the other side couldn't hear unless I held the it right up to my face, and then they couldn't see me, so it defeated the purpose of video calling. One positive was that it came with a case and screen protector in the box, so I didn't have to purchase them separately.
