Such a waste of money! I dropped a cable connection to get this magic 5g box, and as all the family has a Optus mobile plan that fit and works really well, I went for this home wi-fi connection…. Have had this Optus 5G for about 2 years and never had an issue. Changed from a slower NBN service and about $35 cheaper than the Telstra NBN Broadband . You can get a guaranteed months trail so if you’re not happy , just return it at no cost, have seen all the negative reviews which is not my experience. good 5G coverage by asking a friend with 5G Optus coverage Mobile phone to come over and you check how many bars on the phone when making calls !

Easy setup, super happy with connection – All the negative reviews nearly scared me off giving optus a go. I can't say I have had any negative experiences to date. Unusable internet speed, poor customer service, they just want your money – Don't be fooled by their advertisement. They made it sound pretty good, but after I got the modem, the speed was dead slow and unstable, practically unusable in the evenings. They simply can't handle all customers in an area using the internet at the same time, but still let new customers join because they just want your money. Be prepared if you… Read more

want to contact them for support because the waiting time for every contact method is at least an hour. And they would insist in doing their troubleshoot and tests first before doing anything else. The internet would probably be back when you finally reached a real person and the test result would be fine. What's worse, you could only live chat with them when their internet dies in the evenings as their call service is out of business hours. One time, I started a live chat at 8pm, the first response from a real person was at 12am. If you want to terminate the service, they will use every single way to keep you in the contract, starting with the impossible tests. They will tell you exiting without them doing the tests will cost you $500 for the modem because they claim they have no technical issue. They will even try to persuade you to transfer the service to a friend or family. Eventually you will be stuck, paying money without getting what you should get. Stay away from Optus, save your time.

upgraded to 5g home internet ,worst thing ive done slow ,programs wont load even though person i spoke to from optus said its wouldnt . my mobile phone on a differant provider is better .paying extra on this plan for poorer connection and down load times

the computer or phone (over wifi). My son (who is in I.T) decided to write a program to track the pings from last week and realised we had over 100 drops a day!! At one point 48 drops in an hour! (Some only split second). I contacted Optus about it, and after hours on the chatline with them, I was told it's because "5g is no longer available at my address"!! I checked online and sure enough, it says "sorry, 5g is not available at your address"!! But I have an active 5g contract with them! NO ONE called or informed me that I no longer have 5g! And I am still paying for the service! They then told me they had taken down the 5g! They then offered me to return my 5g modem (waiving the modem charges for the rest of the 3 years) to switch to NBN. I was of course appalled and upset. I started checking with 2 of my friends on the same package with Optus and they too were experiencing the same issues, and their addresses no longer showed 5g as available. They have also NOT been informed! After I threatened to report to the ombudsman, they referred me to their 5g tech team who now say I still have 5g, just not very robust as there might be building interferences etc to cover themselves (the website still shows 5g is not available at my address). I am sick of their lies. I have since written to ACA and looking to switch back to NBN but with a different provider. I am attaching a screenshot of what they told me as evidence.

 Follow-up  · They agreed for me to cancel without paying up for the rest of the modem (Which i have no use for). I also cancelled their mobile plan as the experience with them left a bad taste in the mouth. Another friend took their offer to switch back to NBN.

good for a while and then has long periods where drops out randomly for 2min and then comes back up I went back to Telstra 5G yes Telstra more expensive at 85 as apposed to 69 but super reliable and much faster - avoid Optus 5G wireless Broadband

 Follow-up  · We now have gone back to Telstra and not had a single drop out - we are based in Chandler Brisbane and have a strong signal with both carriers

Get the uncapped unlocked speed and ZTE modem... you won't regret it – I signed up in 2021 when it became available in my area. battle with optus over the phone and through their app I decided just to go down to my local store who have been looking after me for the last 20 years (big shout out to the lads at optus springwood). I had been trying to get one of the new ZTE modems but was failing. They looked after me, signed me up to a new contract and I left with my new black modem... and what a modem. I was getting download speeds of 300 odd mbps with the nokia, at 8:00pm (peak hour) I just got an average speed of 599.64 with heights of 700 odd, it also lowered the lag to a respectable 27ms. It's covered the entire house including security cameras outside. I cannot rate it enough, I'm an avid PC gamer and have been building PC's for 30 odd years. I want the best and I am absolutely stoked with this set up.

Really great service. Frustrating support service – In general, I'm really happy with the internet itself. We get 500+ mbps throughout the day. Occasionally we need to reboot the modem to refresh the connection after losing 5G. We have had the service for 2years on the $89 with Fetch plan. a temporary fix whilst it recently built house waiting for TGP to connect the NBN 50 at $69 which met our needs. After a massive struggle with TPG I decided to stick with the Optus 5G and given the speed I'm happy to pay the extra $20pm.

The problem is their tech support. When we do lose 5G we struggle to get decent service from Optus. Although we lose 5G (get 4G back up atv around 100-200mbps) on the Home Internet and 2x mobile they claim nothing is wrong. We can actually walk up to the tower 700m away and still no 5G. Finally after a few days struggling to get answers and get our paid 5G service back we final get sms to say an issue has been identified And service is working on the issue. Surely Optus could be open and honest about their stability. I'd be happy to hear they have issues and are working on it than ... no it's you. Not to mention the 3rd degree on the location of the modern although it is in the same spot for 2yrs and nothing on our end has changed.

It's the poor tech service that splits my mind between going to another provider on service principle v being happy with the internet speeds provided.

When it works ... it's fantastic.

Working great – I have only had it 24 hours so this is an early review. Working perfectly so far. Used to get 15 or so mps uploads and 2 mps down loads, now getting 180 mps uploads and 100 mps downloads so dramatically faster. The supplied moden looks nice. When it can't get 5G (which seems rare) it reverts to 4G which still works fine. The guy who sold it over the phone was nice. No complaints so far. Show details

My mobile data is better than this service. If my mobile data wasn't limited, I would cancel this subscription immediately. When I contact customer service, they only ever suggest resetting the equipment, and then there's no follow-up.

I'm even using my phone's hotspot to post this! I have to reboot the equipment at least three times a day. Sometimes, the connection drops after only one minute. The equipment they provided is clearly faulty. They lock you into a three-year contract, and the problems start within six months.

God aweful. Half my devices wont stream, games wont connect, chromecast drops out after about 2 minutes. speed seems good but is a false reading because it is so unstable. Locked myself in for 36 months (yeah my stupid fault) and now have to pay out a modem im never going to use again. Tried to switch to optus nbn but they making me wait 2 weeks. used to be with aussiebroadband and they were far far far better.

Do not signup for it. Total scam. Very slow and when I try to cancel the service it took 2 hours on with customer service and they tried to charge me for the modem.

 Follow-up  · If you cancel the plan even within 2 weeks, they asked to pay $537 full price and you won’t be able to return the modem. Even if you wish to return the modem, that’s not an option. sometime 30..40..70.50mbps random speed. They said to me you are getting over 50mbps so its ok and it good enough. I told them NBN never had issue like this, at least it stable speed and no need to reallocate to find better reception. I've told IT support, need to fix the issue..they just close the conversation on me..so instead of chat msg..im going to call them to fix the issue So..whoever thinking of getting this Optus 5g internet network ..dont bother..its not what u think it is. Patchy connection and high latency. The tech support team lacks basic knowledge of troubleshooting and keeps suggesting same steps each time you follow up on your issue . The last one told me to lower the encryption level of the modem … that’s how tlseriius they are about safety

Awful - just moved house and moved from 'normal' NBN to this disaster. Soo slow - some websites will not load at al! When I use Speedtest on new 5G - it seems there are third parties- Exetel etc. which makes me think Optus is just a reseller for them! and not their own 5G Unfortunately their help line is only business hours during the week. internet was so bad I can't even open speed test, chat with them again to find out they have switched off 5g home service in my area, without even notice me! So I was paying $99 per month for 4g that can't even open a website for the past few month and they still have the audacity to charge me another $99 this month with broken internet. Absolutely disgusting Optus and shame on you. I can't think of this as anything else other than it's a SCAM. Will never come back.

Paid for an upgrade to the highest unmetered plan.Massive high speed! For the first day, getting over 1Gb/s. Second day and beyond? Slower than the one we were on at 115mb/s. Call Optus, they gave us the full on nonsense about us only being "guaranteed" 50mb/s and that we were getting better that the "guarantee". As soon as another provider can do 5G home, will be ditching Optus and going with ANYONE else!
