Optus 4G Mobile Broadband

Anybody using this optus service needs to keep a very close check on the data optus claims they are using. My data suddenly disappeared and now they are claiming totally false data usage well beyond my normal usage including 90G in 1 month, around 50G used updating windows in 2 months, and large amount of data on things I don't actually use like… Read more
Dropbox. Also they Kalim they can track my data usage on things like Facebook (rarely used) even though I use MBB for a computer with no apps they can trace usage on they still claim I am using large amounts of data on this month after month. They are very dishonest and can't be trusted. I urge anyone with similar falsified data usage to contact ACCC and report them
Wifi out for around 2 weeks with less than one week's notice. Impossible to work from home and very stressful reorganising all appointments at last minute which require connectivity. When it actually does work, it is unstable and slow. NEVER will use Optus again and can't wait for my contract for my mobile phone to end so I can let go of the appalling Optus experience.

The 4G is so extortionate that when we were not satisfied and wanted to upgrade instead. They want us to start at 36 months lockin for 5G which does not really even guarantee if it’s going to be better. Lol. 25mbps but we only get 5mbps download!!!! We are considering of completely leaving and report the underperfomance with TIA.

I’ve been a loyal customer of what used to be Vivid Wireless for over 10 years, and I am absolutely livid about the way Optus has treated me. For the past decade, I’ve been paying $89 a month for their so-called "unlimited" 4G home internet service, thinking I was getting a decent deal. But guess what? I just found out that Optus is now offering… Read more
the exact same service for $59 a month, and for the first year, it’s only $44!
That’s right—I've been paying nearly double what new customers are paying, and for years I had no idea. Not a single word of notification from Optus about the price changes or the better deals being offered. Instead of rewarding loyal customers, they’ve been ripping me off for way too long.
When Optus took over Vivid Wireless in 2019, I didn’t expect everything to stay the same, but I certainly didn’t expect to be treated like this. I was left in the dark, overpaying month after month, while Optus pocketed the difference. It feels like they deliberately kept customers like me in the dark so they could milk us for as long as possible. How is that acceptable?
I’ve now canceled my service, but I’m furious at how I’ve been treated. This blatant price gouging is a slap in the face to loyal customers who’ve stuck with them for so many years. No more. I will NEVER recommend Optus to anyone, and I am spreading the word about this outrageous behavior.
Optus, you’ve lost a long-term customer over this mess. It’s clear you don’t value loyalty—just your bottom line. Shame on you!
Sorry if you feel that way, James. Are new plans and… Read more (+3 replies)
Be careful, they try to suck off you anyway possible and change plan cost just before agreement! – They simply decided to drop my data altogether from my phone plan so my phone plan uses the data on the portable modem sim which is shared data with the phone... They changed contract so it's a one way street and they really p....s me off. I was so so tired of talking after over an hour of talking explaining the Optus cut off my portable… Read more
internet in some way shape or form directly after adding data add-ons which just could not be a coincidence.... There is a fault there, and i missed the whole day of the unlimited data add-on when i was supposed to be downloading MSFS 2024.
More importantly (image attached), they are not just using of course psychological manipulation with their plans to suck you dry the best way they can, but also blunt deception and false advertising by displaying the phone and payment plan cost on the site, then after you've gone through in all and read the authorization details which i had sent to me it suddenly changes from the agreed amount to a new higher agreed amount without showing anything about the ghostly device credits.
And believe it or not after over an hour on the phone the Filipino person hung up after i kindly asked about the price changing from the agreed amount to a new higher agreed amount... I WAS SO TIRED AND DRAINED AT THIS POINT........ Ofcourse they are trained to simply tell you the base math but fail to mention anything amount a sudden change in agreed amount right near customer signing off.
This is about principle and you Optus should be investigated for false advertising.
You make me sick.

How optus mobile is so slow – What a useless telco optus is, the internet is so slow its dialup speed, Why? well its because optus didnt tell you its making upgrades to its towers and it needs weeks to do it, they have just completed a month of upgrades to the same tower where I live , and now its another 2 weeks, no warning, no compensation just dribble about improving its… Read more
disastrous mobile network. Unfortunately we live in duopoly where its only 2 major players to choose from, and both are pretty useless. Update: Im lucky if I can get email, let alone anything else, and this is the optus network that I pay to access

forced to go out in the rain to the shop only to be informed the sim was stuck they couldn’t remove it gave me a new sim and sent me home to remove it myself. Still no internet. This is unbelievable, just speaking to a representative from Optus, a case was opened ..a new modem ordered but apparently incomplete information was given and if I hadn’t asked for the order number to track I would never have internet!! They have opened a new case and are following up. More days without internet, I’m 80 and this is enough to drive a weaker person insane.

Had no probs. When you've been with TPG anything is an improvement! Getting good speeds (over what was promised) and much better than I expected. Happy plug n play customer Show 3 replies
This Alcatel data card is excellent – I got the data card for 34$ a total bargain. The data card works great but its locked to the Optus network. In 1 year you can unlock it. You can get 80 gb of data for 130 for 365 days its not bad. Mostly used for my iPad and for travelling overseas.
Great NBN Alternative – After our NBN link didn’t work and techs weren’t able to come out for weeks, I gave this 4G internet a go. Optus quote max speeds of 25mb/s however I have gotten much higher at times. Sometimes slower during busy periods but still enough to stream youtube to my TV. Had no issues with ping for gaming either. Cheaper than the nbn service I was trying to get.

Optus demolished a tower in Brunswick in May. This has left myself and other without mobile services, phone and MBB. Oprus refuse to say when this will be fixed but are still taking money for services they are not providing. I suspect they are not going to replace this tower and are just lying to customers. Unscrupulous company that lies to customers on a regular basis.

The customer service experience on the phone and in-store at the CBD was a waste of time. They presented me with a roller coaster ride of false and misleading information online and in-store, which was primarily driven by their ego rather than service. This resulted in a loss of money and three days of attempting to get internet service

Disgraceful and cruel incompetence – If I could give a zero on all counts I would; my 86 year old mother has been without internet since December 3rd 2024 and had to go to the post office to retrieve a replacement modem twice, first time it wasn't there. She asked to have a technician come and install it for her but they said they don't have one and made her get a Geeks R Us tech… Read more
come out and it was not resolved. They have refused to send out a technician to an 86 year old woman with crippled hands from arthritis and nearly blind. It has been up to her son and grand daughter to get it working over 2 full days. Upgrade, what a joke, more downgrade – Optus upgraded mount corrella, qld, tower. I now have two wireless broadband systems barely working. on file before they would give me any answers. Great, so I'm supposed to waste time filling out a form on a mobile phone, difficult at the best of times, all whilst I am continually losing connection. Guess who's going to taking their $250/mnth business elsewhere. Don't even start me on the billing issues. When is your weak government, regardless of political leaning, going to stand up to the telecommunications industry. How on earth can optus ceo be content with such an appalling customer service review level. Time to break up this duopoly. The signal on my mobile is now next to useless as well.

Trying to escalate will have you told you are escalated to the highest level, when it's a call centre overseas, not high at all.
So I'm going for the loss of income and reputation. I know so many have had the same, and we must not allow Optus to continue. To be charging customers $85 per month and not deliver the service on such a huge scale, a terrible company.
I'm frankly disgusted, an organisation like Optus should ve able to provide reliable broadband, but tgey don't and all hide behind their overseas call centre.

for many years and have never had excess data notices. Now for the last 3 billing periods the data usage on my statements has more than tripled and it is getting larger each month. As I haven't been doing or using anything different I smell a rat. Optus reps say they can't tell me how the data is being charged and the two times I have tried to get answers they skirt around my specific questions just try to sell me nbn "to solve my problems". I have asked to speak to a supervisor and that request is ignored; requests for an unlimited data plan - not possible. I'm done. Optus, I don't want to hear from your social media team either so don't bother replying to this and telling me that.

Constant drop outs – There is a mobile tower 0.5km from my house and multiple more within 2km but it takes 30mins and multiple restarts to load anything. Don't buy it – This modem, Model MF971LS, has never done what it was supposed to do. I was never able to connect more than 2 devices at one time which would then drain the battery. Now one year later the battery gets flat so quickly I have to use it plugged in so not portable at all. Not worth it.

data card provided in box with this OPTUS Portable Modem - Model MF971LS.
Then I learned that it had to be activated, but there is no way to activate the card on this OPTUS Portable Modem - Model MF971LS modem! Went to the OPTUS card activation site, and went through the process until it asked me for the PHONE NUMBER, which was not provided on the card, or actual DATA card? I could not proceed there.
Everything I did was to no avail, so thinking I put the card in incorrectly, and learning that it WAS put in correctly, I found that I could not re insert the card because the card would not stay locked in! It kept popping out!
Only have to see my pic's below and see where this rubbish is made, and all begins to make sense!
And as is customary with OPTUS, the OVERSEAS technical support "experts" had no friggin idea what I was talking about, in fact when I rang the technical support number was connected to SALES, and then when THEY put me through finally to the so-called technical support "experts", I was cut off mid way because it was 6pm! OPTUS technical PHONE support finishes at 6PM! They call that service?????
Thats right, you can be halfway through a conversation and ARROGANT OPTUS just CUT'S YOU OFF! And on the merry-go-round went after trying to "chat" with them on their 24-hour support page, and having arthritis, I just couldn't go on with THAT! By the way OPTUS, "CHAT" is TALK, when you actually physically SPEAK to someone, what OPTUS calls "chat" is actually TEXTING!
ALSO, when I purchased this OPTUS Portable Modem - Model MF971LS from the OPTUS shop online, they never even sent me a confirmation email, online receipt, NOTHING.
I got this modem because I am having INCREDIBLE problems with OPTUS mobile internet and I only live 2000 meters from the center of the CITY OF TOWNSVILLE!
Here I am today ringing all these OPTUS numbers because OPTUS does not have a number for organizing returns to get a replacement for a faulty product hence, this OPTUS Portable Modem - Model MF971LS THAT THEY SELL! I kid you not, HOURS AND HOURS of ringing different OPTUS numbers the merry-go-round of being put through to different so-called "EXPERTS" and STILL no resolution! It's madness!
MAIN PROBLEM with the OPTUS PORTABLE MODEM is it never reaches full charge. The shoddy OPTUS Portable Modem - Model MF971LS MADE IN CHINA power supply just cannot deliver enough to charge this OPTUS PORTABLE MODEM past TWO BARS! It always cuts out when it reaches between two and one bar.
ARROGANT OPTUS does not even monitor this review website like so many other REPUTABLE companies do! They don't give a fig.
How can these $%#*&!! keep their license to operate in this country? Why wont the NEW feral government allow other overseas players into Australia to create competition? There are US companies that can set up overnight! I'll tell you all why, POLITICAL PARTY DONATION $$$, lobbyists preventing competition and we all know that the only thing politicians are interested in is feathering their own nests!
I STRONGLY STRONGLY STRONGLY STRONGLY STRONGLY STRONGLY advise against buying OPTUS products from the OPTUS website not only because they are because they are as SHODDY as OPTUS, but because there is no contact information on the site where product was purchased or who to call if the product is FAULTY!
Would also love to hear if anyone else is having charging issues with the OPTUS Portable Modem - Model MF971LS, maybe we can get together for a class action in the Federal Court of Australia to call for a National product recall citing the flaws in this OPTUS Portable Modem - Model MF971LS.

Absolutely horrendous – Don’t waste your time. I switched to 4G WiFi to save money and was told that it was as good as NBN and broadband but I’m constantly restarting and switching it off as it’s useless.
Unannounced speed reduction and worst customer service – When I signed up for this service a few years ago, there was no speed cap. Before I knew it, they introduced the cap without notice. I had communication with them on the web and their Facebook but I just say it is… Read more
ridiculous. They have no idea what other parts of their own company are doing. Anyway, they saw no issues about this and were too keen on closing the case without responding to my questions properly and resolving anything. I can't wait to sign up for non-Optus provider.
