Paramount Duet

Product looks good, marketing is woeful – I ordered a Paramount Duet pop-top 16', D01 layout with the off-road pack in November 2020. I was told by the agent, 7th Street Caravans at Heatherbrae, that there was a waiting list and delivery would probably be at the beginning of May. That was expected, so I paid my deposit and waited. In the middle of March, good news. My 'van would be ready… Read more
in mid April, and could I please sign off on the plan and specification, which were included in that email. Not so good news. The plan showed several significant departures from the 'van that I thought I had ordered, and there were problems with the specification as well. After about 10 days of to-ing and fro-ing with the agent, it transpired that: 1. A pop top configuration was incompatible with a queen bed at the front, the stone guard, front boot and 9kg gas bottles that were part of the off-road pack. In addition, the van was now longer because the D01 layout had been changed by the factory. 2. Even if I agreed to a full height 'van, which I was reluctant to do, I could still not have a queen size bed at the front, only a double. In the end, I cancelled the contract and purchased a second hand Kimberley Kamper! I have to say that the agent at Heatherbrae was as mystified as me, and he offered tremendous support. The Paramount web site still shows the superseded D01 layout and has no indication at all that a lot of the options it advertises are incompatible. In fact, the web site is still unchanged from September 2000 when I first viewed it, still saying that a non-existent brochure "will be published soon". In my view, this is borderline misleading advertising. The Duet model is still touted on the web site although it has been replaced by the Xtenda, essentially the same 'van. I selected a Paramount caravan because of the apparent high quality workmanship, which is not being questioned, and the advertised ability to customise the product to satisfy the customer. In my case this last claim is rubbish. Paramount's marketing, as evidenced by the company's web site, is inconsistent, incomplete and incorrect. Beware anyone doing business with Paramount, you may not get what you ask for.
Workmanship is poor – Workmanship very poor inside and out. None showed up for 4 years. Cabinet joints are weak.. butt joints held together with staples don't hold up even when 90% of the work was done on sealed roads. Suspension shocker mount incorrectly aligned adding undue wear to the shocker mounts. Show details
love the van – went away for three months had a couple of very minor issues The after sales work at paramount was excellent Had trouble with water tanks when we first got it Bad Taste Paramount not only replaced them with out question but also fitted a water filter tape at no charge want to ask anything further just contact me via email.
2010 Paramount Duet 18' Expanda – This van has the best layout and can comfortably have 4 adults and 4 kids inside without feeling cramped. We love it. We just did 7 days in Pambula and received 60-80mm rain in 48 hours...the ends only had some minor damp coming through, but overall pretty dry. This is with no storm covers. I am looking now for end covers for those odd occasions rain is coming on an angle.
Paramount duet is perfect – We brought a 2nd hand 2009 paramount duet approx 14 months ago. We absolutely love it and have used it at least 6 times in this time. We have been through storms and heat and have currently used it for the past 5 weeks and have absolutely no issues with it at all. I recommend them to anyone and will be keeping this van for decades to come!!
tThe good and Bad – We have owned a Paramount Duet for two and a half years, purchasing it from new. We have had a list of problems and every time we take it out something goes wrong. 1.It started with a major leak above the door. Problem was the long staples that had been nailed from inside the door frame had penetrated the aluminium roof above the door letting… Read more
water seep down, Fixed with sealant around the cut off nails.
2.The DC master switch stopped working, lucky it was in the ON position.
3. Air conditioner was very noisy and eventually failed. Fortunately we had purchased an extended warranty and a new compressor was fitted at no cost to us. It is now very quiet and cools the van within the hour which it never did. Appears to have never been installed correctly.
4. The Dometic awning is delaminating.
5. The 12v DC power supply was fitted in a location where it gets wet. It blew up in the rain last week and I am now getting a complete solar system installed, in a dry location, as it is no fun with no lighting or radio/CD/DVD player.
6. A double GPO failed and started smouldering. They are a Chinese double pole GPO and being an electrician now carry a quality spare double pole GPO with me.
The wife loves the kitchen bench space and roominess as well as the big fridge. She also likes the quality finish.
I just want a trouble free holiday. It would be doubtful whether I would buy another Paramount, after previously having a Jayco Swan for 7 years and no problems.
Perfect just love it! – As a family of 5 we found it difficult to get a van to accomodate us all, but our custom built Duet is just perfect. The triple bunk set up & queen bed fit us all very comfortably & there is plenty of storage space. We have had several holidays away in it, have experienced heavy rain & stinking hot heat & have never had a problem with it. The… Read more
Caravan Company @ Hexham were extremely helpful in customizing a plan to suit us & nothing was ever a hassle. We got a quality van, value for money & great service. I would recommend the Duet to anyone with a family wanting to enjoy a 5 star caravaning experience. We love the quality fixtures & choice of modern decor, the value for money & fantastic service & after sale service we recieved. Easy to tow & to park in some of the tighter van sights.
Paramount Intrepid 20'6" Ensuite – We can't be more than happy with our Paramount caravan, it is better than we expected, the internal finish is fantastic, the external finish is great. The attention to detail is fantastic, we custom designed our van together with Luke & Brian from the Paramount factory & got more than we asked for. We loved the finish, the quality & the service we… Read more
received from The Caravan company from start to finish As human beings we could winge about all the little things such as nicks etc.overall we are stoked with our van.l
Terrible – do not but one! Whan all these problems came up Paramount never wanted top know about it and avoided all phonecalls. When Paramount finally did speak to us they were rude and wanted to pass the buck! spacious and compact poor workmanship, faulty electricity points, faulty air conditioning, screws coming through wood work, cupboard doors dont latch or stay open, fibreglass at each end has stress fractures in both ends of the van
Excellent – We picked up on a thursday took of for Yeppoon the followng Sunday. The journey was great no teething problems. Most comfortable with many extras that are standard on this van compared to other makers. easy to tow can easily manouver into tight sites & have the benefit of a larger van easy to trip fuse in ohead lockers
Good – Despite our few hiccups, we love our van. The wife can tow it and set it up on her own and it will do us for a good few years. Love the van, easy to tow, plenty of room inside. Purchased brand new, before first holiday tested everything only to find that the DVD player did not work. Paid for repairman to come out and informed that no power… Read more
getting to it. It seems when they built the van, they screwed through the wire. It cost them almost $ 600 to hav another caravan co. run a whole new wire through the cupboards, as it was impossible to get into shell of van to rectify. Many of the doors are missing screws (easy fix for hubby, but when you pay that much for your van, you expect it to be finished off well !)
On first holiday, the cupboard under the sink got flooded as something had not been done up properly at time of manufacture ! Bigger beds would be a great move !
Bad – After all the hard effort we put into saving for one. Paramont is the one laughing they have all our hard earn money. Just be rude and you get it easy. If I built that van I would be very proud of it. Easy to tow turns well. Lots of space The pop top roof screws broke, screws which holds the bar in the bed snapped off. Both beds leak in rain. The… Read more
front boot leaks all tools inside became rusty. Jockey wheel snap off. Water tank leaked.Roof leaked (nice water fall) pop roof is now silconed.Paramount couldn't give a sh*t.It was all our fault. Mind you we didn't build the van.very poor customer service. wouldn't recommed one.
Excellent – As with anything, before you take delivery of your new van check it over carefully. A few simple checks will save you in the long run. If you do see any faults - Don't take delivery of it. Make sure all the appliances are working. When we went to pick our van up from the Brisbane dealer, We asked them if they could run a hose over the roof to… Read more
check and see if the van leaked. We sat inside while they hosed the van. You can also do that to the bed ends. They were only to pleased to oblige. Picked our new Paramount Duet caravan up the week before Easter. Decided to trial it over the Easter break. This van performed very well. We had the van designed to suit our family of five and found we had ample room to store everything. I even had two cupboards with nothing in. My husband said the van towed very well and we were able to get it into a tight parking spot with no problems. We had lots of rain over the Easter week-end and the van didn't leak anywhere. We are more than happy with this van and it does suit our family nicely. The beds could be a bit bigger. My husband kept getting tangled up with the bed stays, but once we switched sides the problem was solved.
Excellent – The dealer in Melbourne has also given fantastic service from point of sale, servicing the van & given helpfull hints, even though we have had vans before we are all still learing. The overall experence 10/10. The Duet is the best caravan we have ever owned & our whole family has had lots of caravans. My uncle also owns a Duet & he is over the… Read more
