More megapixels needs more support tech – 24mp sensor upgraded from the much cherished 16mp in the Pentax K5/II series and Nikon D7000. I feel this camera is snappier in operation and nicer metering, but the extra 50% of mp in the same sensor area requires a little extra care when handling. Higher shutter speeds and steadier hands, higher iso's etc required here to extract the best out of this beast.

Funnily enough Pentax has just upgraded and bought out K3II which has extra stop more of shake reduction and some sensor shake trickery to improve things which is just what the doctor ordered.

Digital noise is a lot more noticeable and where i'd happily go 3200-6400 in the K5IIs, I won't go anywhere near that with K3. It's a fantastic studio, landscape, tripod, Birds in Flight with high shutter speed kind of camera, but low light hand held stuff, i'm going to reach for the older K5IIs, which has better manners.

When you nail it right, the extra resolution is mega.

Very good, but mildly flawed.......like getting a race car with 50% more power and not the support tech to handle it.
