I bought this stupid iron because my old one broke and this one was on sale. I didn't look at the temperature settings for this because it NEVER occured to me that an iron would come without a temperature setting because WHO THE HELL WOULD WANT THAT?!?! This is supposed to be "smart" technology (that no one asked for) that automatically detects what temperature you need for the fabric. Does it work? If course not. If you only ever iron cotton, you will be ok. It has 100% of the time started on synthetic fabrics far too hot, leaving a mark or visibly stretching the fabric where I first set the iron down. I have to iron anything that requires a low heat through a towel to try and avoid damage. It takes freaking ages to iron linen, in the end you really have to push your elbow into it because it doesn't get hot enough to iron it without physical force pushing down on the fabric. Store wouldn't let me return it, so I've just chucked it in the bin and bought a different one. I had it for 2 weeks, what wasteful garbage.

Purchased for $99.

Hello C Reilly, thanks for taking the time to share your experience. We're sorry to hear that the iron didn't meet your expectations and that you've been disappointed with its performance. We can understand how frustrating that must be, especially when it comes to different fabric types and achieving the ironing results you're looking for. The OptimalTEMP technology is designed to let you iron a variety of ironable fabrics without adjusting temperature settings, but we appreciate that preferences and experiences can vary from person to person. When choosing an appliance, it's always worth taking a look at the product specifications and features beforehand to make sure it matches your personal preferences and ironing habits as closely as possible. Thank you for sharing your honest feedback. Comments like yours help us better understand what matters most to our customers. Kind regards, Philips Home Living Team

Firstly, your product box, which I still have and have just checked, makes no reference to this feature. It's not until you get it home, open it, realise there's no temperature feature, download the instructions, and see the silly idea behind this that you find out. So how was I supposed to be informed about this before purchasing? You also need to appreciate that these features need to be explicitly clear, because people are so accustomed to manual temperature settings, few people are going to think to investigate whether this feature might be automated. Customers are exhausted at suddenly having to check if the most basic practical functions, which no one has ever complained about, have been suddenly replaced with unwarranted and dysfunctional "smart" features.

We appreciate your comments regarding the temperature feature and are sorry to hear that the information wasn't as clear as you had hoped. We aim to provide as much information as possible on our website, including product features and technical specifications, to help customers choose the model that best matches their preferences. Many retailers also have display models available, allowing customers to get a feel for the product before making a decision. We understand that everyone has their own ironing preferences, and we appreciate you taking the time to share what would have worked better for you. Kind regards, Philips Home Living Team
