Fatal Flaw – I bought the Philips GC4552 because I'd been happy with my previous Philips purchase, a GC4412. The issue with the new one is the length of the power cord - a whopping 1.1 meters has been lopped off the length of my previous iron's cord, down from 2.9m to 1.8m. This makes it difficult to use in my environment. It's disappointing that Philips have done this clearly as a cost saving measure - they've saved/made a dollar, but I've wasted money on what is a very good, but (for me) essentially unusable iron. Lesson learned - I will check the cord length in future but Philips will no longer be on my shopping list, for this or any other product.

To be honest, your reply has irritated me. The cord length is 1.8m, not 2m, and I know this because I measured it. To suggest that cord length is a matter of preference surprises me as I cannot imagine a customer requesting an iron specifically because they want a shorter cord. I understand the rationale behind your scripted invitation to contact customer service but you seem to have missed the part where I have clearly stated that Philips will no longer be on my shopping list. Period. I know I’m only one customer, or more correctly, was one customer, but I have zero intention of buying anything more that is branded Philips. The Tefal Ultimate Pure I purchased to replace it is excellent!

The power cord length of the GC4552/09 is 2 m long, and is indeed shorter than the 2.5 m long power cord of the GC4412/32.
