GREAT PERFORMANCE AND GREAT VALUE – For the likes of me I seem to disagree with other ratings about this product. With my personal and honest experience that I’ve had with the Philips s5000 Steam Iron I would have to Recommend this product without any doubts. Outstanding performance Very pleased and Great Value for money. I Iron all my work shirts every week for the entire working week and I’m happy with the end results. The only negative fault is checking the Water level having the plastic be so dark which it isn’t-really that hard to do so anyway. Highly recommended
LED FAR TO SHORT 1900cm – LEAD TO SHORT. Given that the lead is only 1900cm long. To reach the lead to the end of the ironing table is 1305cm from plug. Not much room. Unless you are standing literally against the plug! CRAZY.
Purchased in at JB Hi-Fi for $99.

Abundant steam - but where? – I bought a Philips 5000 Series DST5030 to replace a Philips EasySpeed Advanced GC2676 that was a great little iron and only replaced due to some soleplate scuffs. A common problem with irons seems to be accidental rotation of the heat setting as you put your hand through the handle to pick them up. Next thing you know, the iron is too hot, and some material sticks.
The new Series 5000 iron is an absolute disaster. It supposedly has the same features BUT it is more expensive, has a shorter cord, is easier to bump the heat setting, drips water on clothes and loudly squirts steam when resting vertically on the heel.
Most irons I have used make steam noise and squirt steam into the clothes when being ironed, and when rested vertically on the their heel, the steam stops and they are silent.
The Series 5000 makes no noise and shows no indication that steam is being used on the clothes, then when rested vertically bursts into very loud steam noises aggressively steam and water onto the ironing board, and this carries on for some time. It all seems back to front. I tried using the handle button to pump extra steam into the clothes while ironing, and there was no reaction.
So effectively, a more expensive iron with a shorter cord does a worse job and leaves a mess. Is that progress? It is going in the rubbish as soon as the replacement arrives.

I have just replaced it with a steam generator iron, ironically from Philips, so I hope this works better than the steam irons or I will be very upset. Still it was a waste of money spent on the recent steam iron.
