If I could give zero stars, I would. We were gifted this coffee machine for our joint birthdays, and it spent more time at the repair centre or sitting in-store waiting to be sent back for repairs than it ever did making coffee. The first issue was a failed heat pump, which meant it wouldn't heat either the coffee or the milk. We sent it away for repairs, but when it was returned, the hopper lid and water tank were smashed. One of the damaged parts had even been covered with repair centre stickers, despite us being told the machine had been repaired with new parts. We couldn't even test whether the original fault had been fixed because it arrived back in such poor condition.
To make matters worse, the machine was returned dirty, wet, and covered with white mould inside.
We took it straight back the same day. The best Philips could offer was a professional clean and replacement parts, leaving us with little choice but to accept. Considering the presence of mould inside a machine used to prepare drinks, this response was completely unacceptable.
When the machine was returned again, the Harvey Norman staff checked it with us before we took it home. Philips had done absolutely nothing. The only difference was a new box. The machine was still smashed, and after sitting for several more weeks, it contained even more mould than before.
Philips then refused to take any further responsibility for the machine and instead tried to argue with the retailer.
To be clear, Harvey Norman were outstanding throughout this entire process. They were just as shocked, disgusted, and frustrated by the situation as we were. They did everything they could to help, despite the lack of support from Philips.
It took another five weeks to finally reach a resolution.
Harvey Norman had some sympathy for us and after Philips washed their hands of the situation, they did issue a store credit for the value of the machine to us.
Overall, this coffee machine spent more time at the repair centre or waiting to be returned there than it ever spent in our kitchen. The product quality, repair process, and customer service from Philips were all deeply disappointing, and I would not recommend this machine or Philips based on this experience.
Follow-up · the original issue was the heat pump would not be working consistently and made very water coffee the repairs on the machine where about 3 mouths all up it only made about half a dozen coffee
Wish I hadn't bought it – The water is not dispensing properly, luckily the machine is under warranty so took it to Harvey Norman and it has gone to be repaired. I can't be without my espresso so bought a cheap Contempo from Big W $75 nothing automatic but the right pressure and temperature for a coffee, first cup this morning excellent better than with the automatic machine.
After 2 months no news of the machine being repaired, was offered a replacement one but chose to request a refund which has taken place.
