Milk Frothing

Was going well for 11 months then water pouring out all over the bench, took it back to HN for repair, Phillips approved to repair it after 3 weeks. Got it back then 1.5months BOOM same problem. Back to HN and sent back off again. They have had it… Read more

for 1.5weeks so far, called Phillips, waiting for report before they approve the fix. So they wont approve a new, replacement or refund. I can assure you that the service and machine is terrible. DON'T BUY PHILLIPS, Im going to go back to Delonghi.

Follow-up  · After weeks of chasing up Philips and being told that I would get phone calls back. NEVER DID. Finally demanded a return and refund and I got it. Bought a Delonghi. NEVER BUY PHILPS

Great product, great coffee – Bought this Dec 2022 when on special below $500. 6 months in and going strong. Great coffee after adjusting the grinder and trying few different beans. I have worked in a cafe and can tell this low price machine can make decent coffee if you have a bit of experience of how to do the frothing. Tip: take off the metal cover of the frother and only… Read more ·  1

use the black silicone tip for frothing, way better results. Highly recommended after 6 months of use, hope it lasts long.

Very happy with this coffeee machine – We have had quite a few coffee machines over the years of different qualities and prices, but this is by far the best so far. If you want to try and emulate your favourite barista's skills then this machine isn't for you, because it's fully automatic. Which is exactly why we bought it. We didn't want to be mucking around with milk wands and jugs… Read more ·  1

etc , so for us this machine is perfect. One thing that I noticed was that it is manufactured in Romania and the quality is fantastic. So what are the good things ? 1. Quality of the machine. 2. Ease of use. 3. Price point. 4. Taste of the coffee. ( although this relies a lot on the beans you choose) 5. Ease of set up. The first thing to do is set it up. You have the choice of a very good video and the instruction manual. I'm usually hopeless and impatient with these things , but it was a breeze. If I can do it, anyone can. Operation is simple once set up. This to me is the best feature/s. One push operation. No matter what sort of coffee you want it is just one press of a button. We like cappucinos in a mug and you can pre set the amount of milk and coffee strength. You just fill the milk jug which easily clips on, and that's it. It's so simple and once set just press the button and you have a big mug of hot coffee with a great crema. The grinder settings are excellent and easy to adjust. The crema at the end of the milk cycle gets a little bubbly but underneath is a fine crema. This is being picky, for us it's fine. If you're a coffee snob, then pay 4 times as much to get that crema. It has a great cleaning system and a supplied water filter. Cleaning is also an easy process. I rarely give anything 5 stars, but I just can't find anything really wrong with this machine without being really picky. Time will tell as we've only been using for 2 months, but it gets used a lot. Our family and friends always comment on the cafe quality coffee. Just to finish. I hate spending my hard earned on something just to find it's not cracked up to be what it claims to be. So I usually do a lot of research and then look for the best deal. So far I am happy that I chose this machine. My last coffee machine was over $2000 and it was a nightmare and then broke down. Don't waste you're money. I bought from Appliance Central online. service and delivery was excellent. Hope this review helps. Cheers Dave

Not much of a variety – Good coffee especially cappuccino coffee, but doesn't make other milk coffees . Eg, if you want to make a macchiato with milk ,you can only do it going thru the cappuccino mode, same with flat whites. Pointless making other coffees if you want milk with it,always must use the cappuccino mode, also notifies you if you need water in middle of the run, would be good if told before. Otherwise nice coffee....

Fantastic lazy-man's cafe quality coffees – Looked around a long time for a machine that could make me a cup of strong coffee cafe quality with a single button click and have my milk frothed automatically for me. Didn't want to bother with frothing my own milk or grinding my own beans separately. Very happy with this machine. You can do some techniques to make a latte even though this… Read more ·  1

version only makes espresso, long black/americana and cappuccino. Excellent aroma of coffee from bean, coffee can burn your tongue hot when it comes out (including cappuccino) and the taste is deep and rich. Tastes the same as my local cafes.

Pushing beans downhill – It is early days but having just purchased from Amazon a Philips 2200 coffee machine I am hoping it will last. From experience, coffee machines have a life span of seven years, I have had three Saeco machines previously and as I don't drink frothy coffee having milk dispensers etc are of no benefit to me, that is why I opted for the less… Read more ·  1

complicated 2200 model. My only niggle with the 2200 and presumably the more fancier 2300 is the coffee bean hopper, the slant is not sufficient to allow gravity to work properly and allow the beans to free fall into the grinder, I have to give it assistance to ensure beans get fed into the grinder when the bean hopper level gets below half full. Also, the brew group is a bit more "clunky" than my previous Saeco, especially when it shuts down. When this started to happen on my previous Saeco it was the start to the demise of this machine as many problems followed, I hope this is not an omen for the 2200.

It's good! Or was good - see update below – The good: It's fairly compact for a bean-to-cup machine. Controls are simple and easy to understand and use. Grinder and general operation are relatively quiet. Water tank is easy to remove and replace. Pressing the button twice to make a double shot correctly performs two consecutive brews. Unlike the DeLonghi machines which just pump twice the… Read more

amount of water through the grind to make an extra bad tasting coffee.

The bad: The pump is really loud. The bean hopper can leave a few beans trapped in nooks, (this is really a minor complaint though). Steam wand has a limited range of movement. Panarello style steam wand doesn't make very good froth - bubbles are too big. A regular steam wand would be better. It really isn't hard to make decent, fine textured froth with a regular steam wand. The adjustable spout movement feels a bit flimsy.

Good to know: In general the coffee produced will not be as strong as what you get with a manual espresso machine. You'll also (probably) need to set the grinder to a finer setting. Mine came from the factory set at 6 (out of 12). I set it to about 2 or 3 to get a stronger brew and to dial out the bitterness that comes from too rapid an extraction.

But do follow the manual's suggestions - don't fiddle with the grind setting too soon (allow a month or so), and only change it one step at a time and and have a few coffees at each setting. Remember coffee beans vary a lot. The beans you use might be very different to the beans I use.

I have owned several bean to cup machines over the years so I had a pretty good idea of what to expect going in. I must say I am pleasantly surprised with this machine. It really does make very good coffee. Its decently hot too.

Perhaps this machine best feature is it's price. I paid $634 with Amazon and it arrived at my door the next day.

For a machine at this price to pop out great tasting coffee? NOICE!

One star off for the really very noisy brew pump. And the so-so steam wand.

UPDATE:

The machine has developed a fault and has stopped working. It is under warranty and Philips arranged for me to take it my local repairer who will have to send it away. I understand that products have warranties for just this eventuality, but it's very inconvenient and I'm very suspicious of the machine's overall quality (it became quite noisy in the weeks prior). I have since bought a replacement Delonghi machine (reviewed elsewhere on this site), and this Philips machine will be destined for eBay when it come back.

Looks good, works well – I read a previous review that said it took a lot of adjusting to get the coffee they wanted and I found the same as it was several weeks and many coffees to get to the coffee my old machine used to make. Originally disappointed, I have come to appreciate the machine. There is an ingenious milk system which is brilliant with only two faults for… Read more ·  1

me as a cappuccino drinker. Getting the right level in the milk container is trial and error. There are two marks on the black plastic milk container casing that are roughly right for a small cup or mug and a larger cup or mug. I have stuck coloured tape strips at the levels I use as the factory marks are very hard to see. These marks may have been easier to see if etched into the milk container itself. The top mark I use for a large milk leaves 50 to 70 ml in the container after frothing . This is a design limitation, so I tip that cold milk into the mug when the coffee is made and microwave it for 30 seconds to regain the heat lost by adding the cold milk. The bottom mark is ok for a smaller cup as all the milk is sucked out and the coffee hot enough. If you empty the grounds drawer or fill the water container with the unit switched off it does not register.so it’s possible to have a tank full of water and the low water level alert at the same time. The grounds drawer is quite small and for some inexplicable reason has a plastic cover panel that is separate to the drawer and emptying the grounds drawer is a two handed job if you don’t want to risk dropping and breaking one of the pieces, which is annoying as well. The machine is very compact and looks good but they have possibly sacrificed a bit of function to get the form. E.G. The beans don’t migrate that well to the grinder inlet. I purchased this machine specifically because its maker also owns Saeco which I know to be excellent machines. I cleaned and stored the still working 6 year old Saeco when I bought this machine and hope it gives me the great service the Saeco did.
