Still a likeable tool – With regard to a reviewer who said the swivel ball should be bigger as it scrubs instead of swivelling on pile carpet, I found that grinding down the reinforcing bars around the swivel ball cured this problem, compares with other vac. makes ( smooth), so shouldn't be detrimental to the reliability of it. What does concern me is that the mains lead can get slightly warm when used for a period & probably more so to any lead that's still coiled inside. I've never seen a vac. lead so thin before!

Thank you for taking the time to write us, Colin. That your vacuum cleaner is heating up, could have more than one reason, but above all, it's common. These are the reasons it gets hot: When the vacuum cleaner is clogged up, it may produce more heat than normal. In that case, the vacuum cleaner’s cleaning performance is also lower than usual. Please check if the dustbag/bucket is full or one of the filters is dirty that may cause your vacuum cleaner to be clogged up. If the vacuum cleaner continues to become very hot during use, stop using the appliance and contact the Philips Consumer Care in your country. We hope this explanation will help out!

It's not the cleaner thats overheating, but the LEAD. IT gets very slightly warm. For an item consuming 2000 watts a more robust one is required. Colin L.

Finnaly friends with the cleaner – I get my cleaner second hand. The red light always turnd in when i started it. Lots of noise and less suction. Now i did just find out (after 6 monts) that you have too clean tree filters besids the big bag. First the pointy filter in the big bag then on de back site the little black filter and then the white filter. A few good slaps to the wall outside will work...

It's frustrated that you have to do this almost always when you want to use it..

Philips EasyLife Vacuum cleaner – An ideal vacuum cleaner for an apartment. Easy to maneouvre and light to pull. Retractable cord a good feature. Not suitable however for a family home of 5x bedrooms with several sitting areas The filters are too small and fill up too easy.Good suction on hard floors and the hard floor head is excellent. Swivel castor does not move well through thick pile carpet. Needs to be a larger castor.

Excellent vacuum cleaner – Bought the Philips FC8142 last week. Used it a few times and it's a perfect, small thing with a long cord. It's really quite and that is really good! Good suction is a big plus and the little extra's (to vacuum the couch, baseboards etc.) are very handy! I did not have a problem with the filter (yet!), but we like this vacuum very much! It's perfect in what a vacuum should do! Highly recommended! The little extra's, the long cord, silence, cleaning power The colour (purple)

Phillips easy life vaccuum – Not happy with this machine. Good at first but now constantly have to wash filters after each use or red light stays on. Also, dust etc get stuck behind filter cone and you have to put your hand inside to pull stuff out. Very frustrating when you have to do this every few days having to use your hands to remove dust etc from behind cone filter and constantly having to wash filter

Wish we hadn't bought this machine. The waste container is pathetic, design is not the word I would use for it. If that's the best Philips can do Help. Don't buy you will regret!!

Completely agree. It's only a few months old and now completely useless. I have a small one bedroom apartment, however carpeted throughout. The machine couldn't cope. I had to clean filter by hand two or three times per session. Ridiculous. Now it's stopped altogether.
