Very disappointing – Did my research & found Philips GC9550. This was my first steam iron purchase. Worked well initially except for some minor inconveniences. Spitting water & intermittent steam issues on occasions. Overall happy. Just stopped producing steam. Sole plate heats up, but no water/steam being produced. Could be a pump issue? In view of high purchase… Read more
price not happy. No extended warranty purchased, and nor should there need to be as according to State laws these warranties are not necessary as the goods are expected to do the job they are advertised to do so we have a statutory implied warranty. From memory the iron is about 3-4 years old. Iron has been used once a week for approx. 1 hr, always de-calced, etc. Very minimal use in its lifetime. Contacted Philips customer care and was told item likely to be out of warranty based on its manufacture date (2013), so I will have to pay to have it repaired by authorised repairer. Spoke to authorised Philips repairer and they said, yes we can repair it ($100 to diagnose issue, then parts + labour could be $$$$ expensive), but it won't work as well as it did when it was new...recommend you buy a new one! Not sure where I go from here as I would expect it to last much longer, particularly considering the price. Philips - there seems to be an issue with these irons as I'm clearly not the only one...surely it can be repaired under a warranty claim? I look forward to hearing from you.
stopped working after <3 years – This was a lovely iron until it stopped steaming. Ive tried every thing suggested int he instructions but alas it still isn't steaming. The website suggested getting it repaired by a private company - Im not sure thats good customer service. Show details

HONEYMOON IS OVER – First Steam station was a Tefal . Died early on in its life. Did my homework and found Philips GC9550 Lived up to hype except for some minor inconveniences . Spitting water on occasion. Intermittent steam issues on occasions. Overall happy. Now had stopped producing steam. Think it is only 2-3 years old. In view of high purchase price not… Read more

Poor quality for 3 year old product – I have similar experience to others. Paid over $500 3 1/2 years ago from the Good Guys in Brisbane and the steamer has stopped working totally on the Iron. Given the cost compared to a normal iron it is reasonable to expect to get more than 3 years operation out of these irons. Has anyone had success under the ACL (Australian Consumer Law) in getting replacements - they are not fit for purpose if they only last this long. Show details

Mine went dead after 2 1/2 years – Phillips this product should have a recall asap. It doesn't steam anymore nor does it work. Lucky I have extended warranty but they are also hopeless been waiting 2 weeks for repair and they can't find the part. Apparently the repairer told me the steam irons have major issues and Phillips needs to fix and do a recall. I will contact consumer affairs and tell them your expensive $750 ironed should last a decade not 2 years. I'm appalled !!!! Show details

Not steaming – My machine is 3 years old and out of warranty but for some reason it does not steam which makes the entire expensive machine pointless and on the odd occasion it does steam it boils over and spits boiling water all over my clothes. Can anything be done about this? I loved my iron before it stopped working but I don't particularly want to spend such an expense again? Show details

Very Expensive for 3 years – I bought this iron from Good Guys and did not purchase extended warranty (note to self buy it next time). Despite a few minor and sporadic issues such as spitting dirty water on clean clothes, I loved this iron anyway. It has now finally died with the eco button permanently on rendering the iron incapable of being used. Calls to Philips "Customer… Read more
Care" (that would be NO care) revealed that as it was out of warranty I had to find my own repairer since there is not one within about 150km from where I live (19km out of Brisbane ...seriously ?)...Guess what ? Nobody repairs irons !.....I realise that the iron is 3 years old but at $450 I think I would be entitled to a decade of trouble free ironing....but apparently not. !.....Based on the poor customer service experience, I doubt that I will be buying a Philips anything ever again.

What an overpriced joke – This iron 12 months old stopped working which it had done on occasion, then would be ok. I phoned Phillips as i still had my Harvey norman Reciept. The lady said no problem return it to Harvey Norman ......That would have been for what reason I will never know put the iron in the car day before Car stolen and of course when the car was… Read more
recovered no Iron.... My Point is this $500 piece of rubbish should have been in my laundry as after 12 months of minimum use who would think it would just stop....I am now using my Normal Tefal iron I have had for 4 years and truth be known the steam on this would be no different to the (i use the term losely) Phillips Steam Station ..
The Tefal was about $85 when purchased.

BEWARE THIS IRON BLOWS UP IN YOUR FACE – THIS IRON IS SOO DANGEROUS Not only is it WAY overpriced, it blew up in my face while I was ironing! Haven't got one word to say about it positively. Never loved it from the beginning... expensive purchase, looked nice but didn't have the ability to iron properly. Will learn from my mistake, will do a lot of research before I buy another Philips Show details

Expensive to only last two and half years!!! – Purchased from Good Guys, declined extended warranty - WOW what a mistake!! Just stoppped working after two and a half years, expensive iron at $400 to only last that long. Contacted Philips to see if anything could be done, only to be told that they do not repair, have replacement parts and that is why it is given a two year warranty!! I asked if… Read more
anyone could repair, just to be given a local firm number not supported by Philips, the last words from the lady on the phone from philps customer care was 'good luck!' Very disapppointed in the product, very disappointed in the customer care - how can you sell a product knowing that it has such a short life!

Philips Steam Iron- Terrible purchase, worst customer service – Purchased this iron form Sydney Myers. Paid cash. Myers are not able to help re-print receipt. Thought will ring Philips directly for help as it is still winthin its 2 year warranty. they also did not help and wanted proof of purchase. Feeling ripped off having bought an iron that didnt even last its warranty period. No steam, was told i have to… Read more
take it to service agent and pay for repairs. Dont buy this iron or any Philips product. And diont buy from Myers either, as they are hopeless in helping cutomers reprint receipts. The model was released in 2013. Even if I was not able to produce my proof of purchase that was within 2 years, worst case, this iron will last only less than 3 years and die. You will be losing your money

TERRIBLE Iron - Would NOT recommend – This is the most disappointing purchase. I am onto my 2nd thru warranty, the first was obviously a lemon, but the 2nd is not much better. Does not get creases out, even though I use the minimum iron setting on my washing machine to assist. Worst iron ever ... don't buy it !

What a heartbreak this is – We bought two similar Perfectcare irons GC9540, one for my sister-in-law, one for us. We were lucky the one that failed was ours, but the best part of $1000 for two irons is a lot and I'd expect them to run for 5-8 years. Ours failed with the lights just endlessly blinking. The iron has not been abused. Still looks really good. I called service… Read more
but it is out of Philips warranty and would cost $200 to go near Philips service. Probably not out of ACL Warranty. I work in electronics manufacturing and the sort of fault on this fairly simple electronic build isn't a part "breaking down". A good design and good build will work forever. And if you find a dud part in your product in the field, you do the right thing and fix it. This value purchase should be built to last and if it should it breakdowwn it should be supported. My wife has switched to a cheaper other-brand iron and wants me to throw this $480 iron. Doesn't seem right.
It certainly doesn’t seem right, we… Read more
Find out how Philips PerfectCare Silence GC9540 / GC9550 compares to other Irons & Steam Generators
Know better, choose better.
I Have Reviewed My Review – I wrote my review immediately after purchasing the iron and was so so disappointed. However, I have learnt a few tricks which have made me happy I bought it and, though I still have to keep an ordinary iron around for some things, I will never go back and would purchase this iron again. Before ironing, each and every single time, I decalc it. Just… Read more · 1
as part of turning it on, I empty the tank and flush it out. This has stopped a lot of the white marks and the spitting hot water which drove me insane. I am careful to remove any white build up from the soleplate. It certainly isn't an iron you can just flick on and off you go but I wouldn't go back now. I now only iron one side of t shirts as it does it easily, I love that I can hang dance costumes up and steam them while hanging. Clearly you can't iron damp things dry like you can with a standard iron and I do keep one handy. My husband wears high vis clothes and they are a [word removed] to iron but this does them with ease and doesn't dull the shininess of the silver strips. I also leave all my old ironing covers and padding in place and have about four on at a time which prevents the water dripping onto the floor beneath the board. I take these out and dry them fairly regularly. Best of all it does not hurt my shoulder. Occasionally it still spits and makes me curse but that is generally after a long ironing session. Hope this helps restore some people's faith in the iron.
Dreadful - would not recommend – I have previously owned a Philips steam generator with temperature controls and loved it. I purchased this model in February and find it leaves my clothes damp, spits water consistently and like others have stated, does not get the creases out of my cottons. If I could exchange it for one with temp controls I would.

Phillips perfectcare silence steam iron – Worst iron ever! Cuts out of steam then bubbles water which then irons all over the clothes. Feels cold and doesn't get out the creases half the time which is frustrating! Terrible iron. The older version was the best. Do not buy the new version people go for the older model or something else
So Disappointed !!!! Don't be fooled by advertising – I agree with the others comments that have been posted. I only wish I had read them BEFORE I purchased this iron. I too, previously owned an earlier model Philips steam station so I thought a newer more advanced (and more expensive) model would be better than the one I had. I read reviews, watched demonstrations on tv shopping channels and decided… Read more
that overall Philips seemed to be as good as other brands. I was tempted to get a tefal because they received excellent reviews but I've never owned that brand so I decided to stay loyal to Philips. Big mistake. Cost as much as the other brands. $499. It is no better than a cheap steam iron. Looks great but can't get minor creases out. I'm still using cans of spray starch and taking just as long to do the ironing. The steam cuts out constantly so you can't steam iron any garment without waiting for it to "kick in" again. I do heaps of ironing for my adult sons and husband who have business shirts and I wanted an iron that was better than the one I had. If anything it's worse. I cannot express my disappointment. A complete waste of money and I wish I'd followed the reviews and bought the tefal.
Steam cuts out constantly, won't iron out basic creases, paid top dollar and got a very very poor product.
Very pretty but useless – Very disappointed! It really seems like it should perform well, but sadly no! Very quickly it stops working to regenerate enough steam. Strangely it doesn't take creases out of a simple shirt, this was very frustrating as my husband irons his work shirts, and I insisted on this lovely iron. At times it works well, the shape is lovely to fit into… Read more
awkward spots. Frustrating, can't even iron 1shirt without, stopping to regenerate heat to creat enough steam.
Disappointed customer – So disappointed in this iron. I recently used a friends phillips steam iron and absolutely loved it. I was told at the store this iron was top of the range Phillips, but clearly not. Cuts out constantly and certainly isn't as sharp as the one I used previously. Spent a huge amount of money and I wish I could swap it :(((( When it works its ok Very expensive for what it does.
Sacrifices performance for silence – Bought this expecting a level of speed and performance befitting a top of the line steam iron, with silence as a side benefit. Unfortunately, what we got was a quiet iron that was unable to deliver acceptable results. The iron very quickly ran out of steam pressure upon activation, meaning that there were only a limited number of strokes before… Read more
the iron needed to be rested.
The iron also (and more so as time went on in the ironing session) tended to lose steam for 10-30 seconds at a time.
Also found that the iron was unable to iron wrinkles and creases out of cotton sheets and linen.
All in all had high expectations that weren't even nearly met. It is quiet. Unable to maintain steam pressure. Steam drops out for noticeable periods. Does not remove creases from cotton.
Absolutely true!
Looks can be deceiving !! – I like Philips Irons and happily recommend them but, recently i purchased the brand new GC9540 Perfect care, which is the upgrade of the GC9240 with apparently more quieter operation. This unit has a RRP of over $500. Overall this unit looks the goods but after ironing several items the steam function seems to weaken or drop off completely. So… Read more
much for consistent steam which IS the basis for which this machine operates. Often you have to wait for the steam to regenerate. I think the main problem seems to be the pump system doesn't keep up or operate more regularly. Now you might say i got a dud machine but this is the second one i have tried with the same problems from the first one. Some rave about this machine but i'm not game for 3rd time lucky !!! When the steam works it does a great job ironing. Steam function inconsistent thus slowing ironing time while the steam regenerates.
